XMII UDS 4.0
Hi,
I observed that the xMII UDS 4.0 help is now available on sap.help.com .
Any tentative timeline when this'll be released on the Market place?
Thanks

Question about MII and xMII UDS versions
Hi all,
just some quick questions on MII and MII UDS:
Has the final version 12.1 of MII already been released? I can't find it in my service marketplace (does it depend on my account configuration?)
What is the last MII UDS version? The 4.0 SP2? Is xMII UDS supported on Windows 2003 server 64 bit or only on 32bit?
Can I connect MII via UDC connector to an UDS different from xMII UDS?
Your help is appreciated...

Yes, it would depend upon your SMP credentials and licensed software purchases (if you have 12.0 then you're eligible for 12.1 too). But it is not GA yet, so only people in ramp-up currently have access to it. Don't both asking for a date because it has not been set. Some time this quarter hopefully

The 2.5 UDS's are still viable and necessary for some of the vendor API based connections, but 4.0 is available for OleDB, OPC-DA and OPC-HDA. They have only been validated on 32 bit, but in theory they should work in a 32 bit emulation mode on a Windows 64 bit environment. Supported vs. unsupported is a thin line as a result, but perhaps others using them could share any specific experiences using them on 64 bit.

Your MII version of 11.5, 12.0, or 12.1 will work the same way with the UDS's as they are not version specific to MII.

Hello,
I am currently trying to setup a UDS using the import function, but so far haven't found any hint on the structure of the alias file. Maybe someone can help?
Kind Regards,
Christoph MertinsIf these are the 4.0 UDSs look in the help file:
SAP xMII UDS > Alias Configuration > Importing CSV Data
Importing CSV Data
You can import comma-separated values (CSV) files via the Alias window. The format of the CSV file must be the following: Name,Source,Description,Min,Max,Data Type,Group Path.
The first six parameters match the parameters in the item pane. The Group Path is the location of the group in which the item will exist when it is imported.
Do not include a header row; the first row of data will be imported.
Parameters that are not required (Description, Min, Max, and Group Path) can be ignored, but a comma must still exist for the parameter.
If the Group Path parameter is not included, the item will be added to the Root group.
Separate groups in the Group Path with backslashes (/).
Any group specified in the Group Path that does not exist will be created.
Do not include spaces between a parameter and a comma; spaces are interpreted as characters and imported.
Do not include spaces between group names and the backslash (/) used to separate them.
Data types that are not recognized by the system (Double, Integer, TimeStamp, and VarChar) are imported as the type "Other." Data types of "Other" are not loaded during runtime operation.
If an item exists prior to the import, it is overwritten by the item in the CSV file.
Min and Max parameters are not validated; therefore, it is possible to have a Min value that is greater than the Max value.
Example
The following example shows a small CSV file. Groups 1, 2, and 3 are created when the file is imported into a new alias configuration.
Test 1,Test1.Source,Test 1 Description,0,100,Double,
Test 2,Test2.Source,Test 2 Description,23,56,Double,Group1
Test 3,Test3.Source,Test 3 Description,,,Integer,Group1/Group2
Test 4,Test4.Source,Test 4 Description,a,b,double,Group1/Group2/Group3
Test 5,Test5.Source,Test 5 Description,1,1,VarChar, -
UDS 4.0 once again: Could not add "DB11.DBB6" to the response list.
Hi,
once again we have heavy trouble with UDS 4.0 connecting to a SINUMERIK OPC server.
Unfortunately the OPC server does not support browsing. GroupList and TagList returns nothing.
The facts:
- MII 12 on Windows Server 2003
- UDS 4.0 SP1 on same server.
- OPC connectivity has been tested with Matrikon Explorer. Tag has been added manually (remember, browsing not possible).
- Creating UDS instance works. UDS can see remote OPC server and is able to create an instance from it.
- Data server has been created in MII 12 to connect to UDS.
- Connection status to UDS is ok. Can also be seen as Debug file shows query details.
- TagQuery has been created with adding the tag manually (browsing not possible).
When we try to test the query we always get the error message
Could not add "DB11.DBB6" to the response list.
and
No Tag selected
The strange thing ist that, if we use a non existing tag like "test123" then the same error occurrs instead of "No valid tags requested".
Here you can find the debug file of UDS:

The Debug file is from a Windows XP Professional system. But the same thing happens with the UDS installed
on Windows Server 2003 (x64).
The following config variations have been tried:
- synchronous / asynchronous
- Cache mode "None"
- Threading model STA / MTA
Any suggestions?
Regards,
MatthiasHi Mathais,
I assume you have installed the OPC enum services in the same machine where xMII UDS is running.
Also make sure that the browsing mode is set to true in the OPC Server.
We had the same issue...and were receiving the same error...but once we changed teh Browing mode at teh OPC server to true, tag quesries started working....
Hope it helps...

MII UDS does not start automatically on server reset
Hi,
MII UDS does not start automatically on server reset, although it was set as automatically start.
What could be the reason of this problem?
Thanks.Hi,
Is the runtime mode is set to service?
Have you referred this document?

PI UDS - Installation Best practices
Hi all:
Per the installation guide the only requirement is to have the PI API installed on the same box as the UDS.
I have the following questions on installing the UDS Framework & PI UDS. Appreciate your answers:
1) Can this be installed on the xMII server with along with the PI API/SDK?
2) Can this be installed on any machine with the PI API/SDK installed?
3) What operating systems does it work with and Is a server class machine a requirement?
4) If the only option is to install this on the PI server, are there memory or CPU requirements to runs this?
5) What is the expected network data packet size and frequency? Im assuming this is a background task that continually runs.Srinivasan,
1.) I would highly recommend the native connections vs OLEDB is every case where you can get to the data you require from the native xMII UDS. The only reasons you would favor the OLEDB UDS is in cases where you can not retrieve the data from the native xMII UDS.
As for the instabilities, we feel that we have resolved all the issues in the upcoming release, but if you still find a situation where the xMII UDS fails, please send in a support case and the appropriate fixes will be done.
The current known issues with the 4.0.2.5 xMII OLEDB UDS are as follows.
- Unicode characters are not always correctly handled.
- Administrative modes are not accessible.
- Other smaller minor fixes.
- The connection string dialog is populated and encoded correctly.
2) Currently the new xMII UDSs are in Acceptance Testing and there is no access to the xMII OLEDB UDS. We are all trying very hard to get this through the process as quickly as possible, but with testing resource issues, it may still take some time.

MII UDS 4.0 64 bit support
My client is preparing to implement MII and we have a need to utilize the XMII UDS 4.0 in a 64 bit environment. The download available on Service Marketplace specifically states it is for Win32.
Is this connector supported in a 64 bit environment?
Thank you.
Mari SantangeloHi Alin,
Yes, it really is Mari Santangelo. I've come out of semi-retirement (aka unemployment).
We are in the early stages of our project and need to use the UDS (4.0) to prove it can connect to Kepware before we can continue our planning. I've been told by Basis that Netweaver requires a 64 bit OS. Since MII runs on Netweaver, that is the requirement for the MII server. In addition, we need to use this same test server to connect to Kepware 5 and read data from a PLC before we can move to the next steps.
In subsequent searches, I have found SAP Notes that specifically state that 64 bit OS is not supported for UDS 4.0 but will be for PCo 2.1 (which is not released yet). I was hoping to get a response I could bring to my customer that would allow us to move forward with UDS 4.0 until PCo 2.1 is available.
Have you worked with UDS 4.0 in a 64 bit environment? If so, what lessons can you give me?
Thanks!

Xmii Daylight Saving and OLEDB UDS
Hi All
I have a problem with my OLEDB UDS connection to PI
I am using Xmii OLEDB UDS version 4.0.2.5 to connect to pi
Java version : 1.4.2.07
SAP Xmii version 11.5
After moving into daylight savings period on october 28th @ 2:00am our data is out by an hour.
(all of the data below was taken at 6:30am)
TAG DATE TIME VALUE ...
50210-LI-QVY-2101.01D-00 24-Oct-2007 06:30:00 6998.15 --- 0.00

50210-LI-QVY-2101.01D-00 31-Oct-2007 05:30:00 5360.67 --- 0.00
This only occurs when dat is queried through Xmii (via the UDS)
Runningthe same query using the pi-snapin for mmc OR using the PI test tools gives me the correct data (all @ 6:30)
It looks like the UDS does not adjust corrrectly for daylight savings
I have updated java using the timzone updater and tried almost everything I can think of to fix this.
by a process of elimination we have come to the conclusion that the UDS is the problem
Can you tell me :
1) is there a newer version of the OLEDB UDS available ??? (I tried to download this from the marketplace but it was not there)
2) what else can i try to fix this issue ???
Moving the timexone of the computer to GMT +9 to allow for daylight makes data correct after october 28th but wrong before October 28th
any help and/or idea would be greatly appreciated
Edited by: Chris Gray on Jan 14, 2008 7:57 AMHi Andy
I knew about the java issue, but going back down that path led to the solution !!!
The java timezone updater tool needs to be applied
http://java.sun.com./javase/tzupdater_README.html
What I didnt realise what that this needs to be applied to ALL JRE instances on the box.
The default (and only) option for the tool is to run against a single instance.
You have to copy the tzupdater file to each instance and re-run it
My JRE was updated but my SDK wasnt
This worked for me, hope it works for you too
"magically" daylight savings is now correctly handled - it has only taken me about 2 weeks to work this out but hey , got there in the end
Thanks everyone for your help.

Connection between xMII and RAPID Pharma (Enterprise Historian) per UDS
Hello together,
i have the following problem:
I want to connect to the Enterprise Historian from AUTOMSOFT, RAPID Pharma, how is installed on a SIEMENS PCS7 Runtime Server, with xMII.
For connecting to the Historian i use the UDS Framework 2.5.0.4.
As Datasoucre i took the OPCHDAUDS.CachingDatasource
And the Program ID of RAPID is:HDAServer.RHHDAServer.1
I Use a Windows 2003 Server as xMII Server and Windows 2000 computer for the Historian Database.
In the xMII Server Editor i use a "Default OPCUDS Server" with the right port as set on the UDS.
The connecting between the historian and the UDS works. I´m able to browse through the tags (with the UDS-Aliases). But if i want to build a Template in xMII, the Tags are not displayed on the Editor.
I´m able to choose the Template type and i also see the Data Server and if i select the data server it shows me the different modes. But if i select e.g. "Current" and switch over to the "Tag Query details" i get no information.
Can you help me resolving this problem.
Best regard
ChrisHi Abesh,
thank you for your help.
I´ve done all steps in the correct way like the whitepaper explain befor and now again, with the same result: It´s not possible to see the tags in the Template Editor.
Every Time i select a new TAG template type i get the message (onthe JAVA Console)
"ERROR-An invalid Server was used (Illuminator Service)"
But the server still running and the connectionstatus say that the server is online.
Then when i select the server and the mode and switch to "TAG QUERY Details" the JAVA Console shows this error message:
"ERROR-Error occurred while processing data stream, connection refused:connect"
I hope you can help me.
Thanks a lot. -
UDS,MES,OPC ,xMII servers?
Hi Gurus,
I am little confused about positioning for these servers in any landscape.
Any body please explain about these severs and the sequence of where to subscribe these servers.
what i know ( may be incorrect ) : xmii uses specific uds to connect MES system (ihistorian for example ) .MES uses opc driver or server to communicate with plc's to collect data.
Please help.
Thanks
VansiHi Vansi,
OPC is a communication standard. Equipment such as a PLC or a DCS may have a corresponding OPC Server (providied by equipment vendor or provided by third-party). OPC Server allows an external system to communicate via the OPC standard. The OPC server communicates with the PLC / DCS in a proprietary language.
Historians such as iHistorian, can communicate with OPC servers. They may also be able to communicate with the PLC / DCS directly.
One of the possible UDSes for xMII is the OPC UDS. xMII communicates with the UDS in xMII proprietary language. The UDS communicates with the OPC server in OPC standard. The server communicates with the PLC / DCS in its proprietary language.
If you have a Historian in the middle, one possible scenario is as follows:
xMII communicates with the UDS (OPC / OSI PI) in xMII proprietary language. The UDS communicates with the Historian (with appropriate protocol - OPC / OSI PI). The Historian communicates with the OPC server in OPC standard. The OPC server communicates with the PLC / DCS in its proprietary language.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Jai.

Hi
Are all the datasources as seen in the UDS framework ( e.g. UDSFramework_2_5_0_4 - which one used to have for 11.5 before MII 12 ) available in UDS 4.0 ?
Does the procedure for installing/ running UDS remain same as earlier with Netweaver hosting MII?Hi Amol,
UDS 4.0 includes the following UDSs:
u2022 OPC Data Access (DA) UDS
u2022 OPC Historical Data Access (HDA) UDS
u2022 OLE DB UDS
UDS 4.0 is not directly bound to an MII version.
Installation procedure is same.
Thanks,

UDS 4.0 - PHD Connection - Server Threw an Exception
Hi All,
I am using UDS 4.0 for connecting to Honeywell PHD System via OPC Server. When i execute the Tag Query first time, I am getting the Tag Values successfully. But the same query if i run it for second time i gives me an Exception "com.sap.xmii.Illuminator.logging.LHException: The server threw an exception.". So i restarted the UDS Service and ran the query again. It worked. But again second time it is throwing an exception. Can any one tell me what could be the Error.

Edited by: Gowtham Kuchipudi on Jan 28, 2010 1:08 PMHi Sam,
I tried using &Session=false, but it didn't solve the problem. I replaced the HttpPost Action Block with TagQuery. But still have the problems with Scheduler. And also tried with both STA and MTA options in UDS configuration for Threading Model with no success.
Earlier when we installed and configured UDS 4.0, then also i noticed few strange things, like -->
I entered the User and Password in UDS Configuration and tried to start. But it didn't and the Log file says Login Failed. Then i went to services.msc and re entered the password there for this uds service and clicked on start. It started. I don't know why the password is not properly stored when i enter the Password in UDS.

Thanks,
Gowtham K.
