XMII v12.1 Questions

1. Will v12.1 include SSO (SAPSSO2TICKET) support for JRA?
2. In a previous thread, it was stated that "going forward the SAP NetWeaver team recommends using JRA for all ECC communication". Please go into more detail on reasons why SAP NetWeaver team is recommending JRA over JCO.
3. What platforms will be released first? Unix(AIX)?
4. Do you have a feel for the date, or date range, when v12.1 will be available/released?

Eric, thanks for the info!
Was trying to establish some justification for our management for going to v12.1. On question #3, I had read in the forum that certain platforms would go first, then others later, but, yes, this may have been referring to Ramp Up...GA is what I am interested in, and it sounds like all platforms will be available. As far as justification goes, I listed Performance Enhancements at the top. Have read that the Business Logic is at least 10 times faster?
The only information I have on v12.1 is from a link on Expert Forum concerning the ramp-up. [Re: MII 12.1 Ramp-up Inquiry] If you have or could point me to any other detailed info on 12.1, I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks
David

  • Load Balancing for scheduled job in XMII V12

    Hi XMII experts,
We are going to schedule a lots of jobs in XMII V12.
On our production server we have several JAVA Application servers.
Do you know if there is some kind of load balancing between java instance when we schedule jobs in XMII V12 ?
    Regards
    Jean-Louis

    Hi,
If there is so many Applications in one Production server, then it will be overloaded. Suppose Java Applications and xMII Application are consuming lots of memory space and you are going to schedule lots of jobs in xMII, then it will be overloaded.
First you need to check how much memory your Java Applications and xMII Aplication is consuming. If it exceeds the RAM then system will be hanged.
    Thanks,

  • XMII v12 Sample Project in SDN Downloads

I downloaded and installed the xMII v12 Sample Project from SDN.   Hoping to use it to gain a better understanding of the workbench.
I followed the instructions provided and was able to successfully import the project, and setup the required datasources.  However I began getting errors such as 'Template not found'.  After some digging I was able to figure out the problem.
The project installs as 'Sample', with all files deployed under the 'Sample' root.  Unfortunately when the root is referenced within the htm, irpt etc... files it is spelled out as 'Samples' causing the template not found errors.
    Here's some html from OrdersSPC.htm, notice VALUE="Samples/SPC/Ord..."
    <APPLET NAME="SPCChart" CODEBASE="/XMII/Classes" CODE="iSPCChart" ARCHIVE="illum8.zip" WIDTH="760" HEIGHT="460" MAYSCRIPT>
    <PARAM NAME="QueryTemplate" VALUE="Samples/SPC/OrdersSPCQuery">
    <PARAM NAME="DisplayTemplate" VALUE="Samples/SPC/OrdersSPCChart">
    </APPLET>
Although changing all the 'Samples' to 'Sample' did give me some time to better understand the workbench, it just made me wish for a global find and replace function.
Is there something I'm missing?  Would there have been a better way to fix this?
So the intent of my post is to bring this to someones attention so it can be fixed, and provide a resolution to anyone having the same difficulty.

Select xMII 12.0 Sample Projects and Tools,  under that I had difficulty with the sample project specfically.  I don't see an author, it just states "SAP Evaluation Software".

  • Installation advice for xMII V12.0

    Hi all,
xMII is my first foray into the SAP experience.  We are planning a POC using xMII to build a simple MES system with communication to existing SAP ECC/ERP, various PLCs and Proficy iHistorian and printing to Zebra label printers.  We have a sandbox xMII V11.5 installed and working with ECC via RFCs/JCO.
It makes sense to use xMII V12 for the POC as we will not be going live for a year and the work we are doing now is discovery work.  We are planning a new installation as the requirement for NetWeaver changes requirements quite dramatically.
I have been looking through the mountain of documents on Wikis, document sites, and Blogs and have found Master guides, Installation Guides, Upgrade Guides, Release Notes, Config Guides, SAP Notes...  Then there is JCO, SAP JRA, UDSs of various types, Netweaver (UME, WebAS, CCMS, ...), JRE, database, Windows...  I am attempting to make a list of what needs to be installed and in what order for the POC. I have not found a definitive source of information on the installation of an xMII server.  -Does one exist?-
Here is my current list of what to install on the xMII server, in the order they must be installed.  I could use some feedback!
The server:  Dell Optiplex GX620  -  1G RAM - 2.8Ghz - 40Gb HD -Is this adequate?  More RAM? More Disk?-
    Windows Server 2003
    MS SQL Server 2005
Sun JRE 1.4.2_16  (When will this be upgraded to 1.6, or even 1.5!)
Is JAVA_HOME required?  Does it matter which JRE is in the Windows PATH environment variable?

P.S.  I have been impressed by the quality of the posts on this forum.  I look forward to joining the community!

    Amy,
This is probably not what you want to hear but the guide will most likely not be updated since the JDBC driver and it's configuration is specific to the vendor and not SAP.  This is the reason for all of the various configuration fields you see in the xMII Data Server configuration screen.  It allows the xMII system to support a connection via any JDBC driver.  The MS site where you downloaded the 2005 driver from has the Server URL defined there and there are plenty of supplementary sites on configuring the URL properly for your system.  If you still think it should be added then please create a CSN/CSS message requesting the change.
To cover some previous comments on the NW installation, plan for approx 2-4 days in installing and configuring Solution Manager; if you don't already have it in your corporate landscape.  The actual installation took me 20hrs on a 2GB RAM Dual-DualCore 2 GHz CPU machine and took approx 45 GBs of space (This is now required by SAP and last I checked was free).  You'll need this because it will help you maintain/manage your various systems corporate wide.  Also it is needed to generate "Solution Manager Keys" which are required for NW installations and to download NW support package updates from Service Marketplace.
Once that's done it's about 3 hours for each successive NW AS Java installation and about 5 minutes for the xMII v12 deployment and finished off at around 5GBs of space.
This is all in the guide I am putting together along with a "High-Availability" section which is adding some extra time to it's release but I can guarantee it's worth the wait!
It's nice to see that you've done your homework on this, hope this helps to explain and clarify...

  • XMII Productivity Wizards - xMII v12.0

We are migrating from xMII v11.5 to xMII v12 and needing to download the Productivity Wizards from the SDN Community. When try to download, an agreement pops up: SAP DEVELOPERS NETWORK – SAP 90 DAYS EVALUATION LICENSE AGREEMENT.
Is there a Productivity Wizard download available that is not a 90 day evaluation? Any other information would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Dave,
On the SDN, select Downloads -> for Manufacturing
    OR click here:

    and select:
xMII 12.0 Sample Projects and Tools
This has the Frontpage wizards for publishing v12 content into the workbench environment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Scheduling Project Export in XMII V12

    Hi XMII experts,
to keep track of our project modifications, we would like to periodically export each XMII project of our Developpement server .
Do you know if it is easily possible in XMII V12 with a Unix script or a BLS scheduling???
    Many Thanks
    Regards
    Jean-Louis

    Hi Jean,
Unfortunately you do not have option scripting  but the easiest way is to do with project import / export option given in MII12.0 . Just export the project from the source system and import in target. This is very quick and just create one zip file.
    Hope this will help.

  • XMII v12 connectors

    Hello,
I've just installed xMII v12 on a server and I am surprised not to find the basic connectors for ODBC data sources.
How can I link to Access tables (for prototyping purpose) ?
    Thank you for help,
    Dominique

    Dominique,
Here is a note that should help:
    <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1064939">https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1064939</a>
In light of the fact that OleDB, which is the recommended use for odbc type connections, you will need to use the Sun jdbc odbc bridge driver and these settings are listed under the name: ODBC

  • XMII v12 - JRA Action Blocks Question

We are implementing v12 (AIX) and require ECC server load balancing for our production environment. Production environment we have multiple xMII servers and multiple ECC servers. (our development environment is standalone, single xMII server, single ECC server). I understand that the JRA action blocks should be used for ECC load balancing instead of the JCO action blocks.
Could not find any information concerning the 3 choices available in the JRA Start Session action block. We do not know which deployed adapter to use.
    1. nonGlobalTx/eis
    2. shareable/eis
    3. unshareable/eis
From a previous post, found the following link, but did not go into detail on the 3 adapter choices:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/6f/1bd5caa85b11d6b28500508b5d5211/content.htm

Here's what it was supposed to say...
    David,
Just for completeness on the earlier part of the thread here are the connection definitions:
"Non-shareable" - means that inside a transaction 2 or more physical connections will be created if applications wants to acquire 2 or more connections from one resource adapter. Each connection which is acquired from application will use separate physical connection.
"Shareable" -   means that inside a transaction 1 physical connection will be created even if the applications wants to acquire 2 or more connections from one resource adapter. All connections that are returned to the application will share one physical connection. This is the default configuration.
Non-global TX - connections which are acquired from connection factory with this setting will not be enlisted into distributed(JTA) transactions. This is SAP specific setting.
Global TX - Connections are enlisted into transaction. This is the default/standard configuration.
As for SSO, I may have misspoken earlier about this still trying to find a good answer for you.  In the mean time here's the best that I can do:
Application authorization - application is responsible to provide user/password during get connection request. Or  user/password is specified into resource adapter properties. This is the default configuration in SAP.
Container authorization - means that server is responsible to provide user/psw based on specific configuration which is done on the server.  For example SSO is done with container authorization.
The Container Authorization has a bunch of SAP Help ([http://help.sap.com|http://help.sap.com]) on the security configuration here:
I will continue to follow-up on this but if you keep me updated on your progress it will help me along as well.

  • XMII V12 System Jobs (TempFileCleaner)

    Hi XMII gurus,
My users need to keep the xmii job logs during one week.
For the moment xmii only keep the last hour job log.
I guess it is a system Jobs called "TempFileCleanor" that delete these logs but I dont know how to change it.
Is there a way to change these settings ?
By the way, the Help on the System Jobs is very "Unhelpfull"
    Regards
    Jean-Louis

    Hi everybody,
    just to let you know.
I have opened an oss message and they told me that the job history was not deleted.
That is true in fact, after some investigation I have discover that the job logs are not deleted and it is stored in an Oracle table called XMII_JOBHISTORY.
But when you click on the spreadsheet icon in the scheduler you can only see the last hour logs. So I have asked SAP if there is a way to change it and waiting for their answer.
SAP also tells me that the system jobs cannot be changed (I dont see the interest of this menu then).

  • Calling Webservice from Netweaver Portal to SAP XMII 12.0 using SSO

    Hello,
we have a Netweaver 2004s based Portal and a Netweaver-based SAP XMII (v12.0) System providing Webservices.
What we try to do is to call a webservice out of the Portal EAR Application using SSO.
SSO-Konfiguration between Portal and XMII is done and works fine. I tested this using an URL-iView, which calls a https-URL on XMII and SSO-Authentification is done in the background.
Now I want to call a Webservice using SSO.
Without SSO (prodiving UID/PW), the webservice-call works fine.
In order to use SSO with Webservice, I created a "Deployable Webservice Proxy" with "HTTP-Authentication" and "use SAP Logon Ticket" turned on.
Then I remove Login/Password from my SOAP-Request and unfortunately it doesn't work.
What do I have to consider in addition to the topics above?
Can you provide any useful links with tutorials, hints, documentation, ...?
    Thanks in advance
    Andreas

If you search the forum here for the terms you have used, then you will find many of them and interesting discussions about advantages and disadvantages from different views. I think that in 1 or 2 hours you will be a guru
    > I am thinking more of using Kerberos authentication for SAP GUI and using OpenSSO (Sun's product)solution for EP 7.0.
    >
    > Do you know what SSO technologies are other companies implementing these days?
I only know which solutions I have been involved in doing the security evaluations for and implementation support.
I don't want to do any direct or indirect comparative advertizing here, but only wanted to point out to you that there is plenty of information if you use the search. What you need to understand is that other that SAP proprietary mechanisms and newer standards based initiatives (search for 'SAML'), this is often a 3rd party vendor question (and resulting discussion...).
If you find a solution and want to specifically discuss it here, then this can most of the time be done in a civilized way...

  • XMII version dependency

    Hi Gurus,
I have some confusion regarding xMII - SAP connectivity.
If xMII is version dependent? e.g if xMII v12. can be accessible through a particular version of SAP(say 6.4).
Do we need any special connectivity(connectors, BADI etc.) between xMII server and SAP or just installing the GUI for both will be enough?
    Thanks in Advance

            Musarrat Husain

I think the question should be more like - what version of SAP R/3 is accessible via xMII and not the other way round.
In my personal experience I have connected xMII (ver 11.5) to SAP R/3 4.6 b/ 4.6c and more recently ECC 6.0.
No special connectors are required as xMII uses JCO for connecting to R/3 systems and these classes are installed alongwith so many others when you install xMII, although from 12.0 there is JRA as well. Check up the xMII 12.0 help documentation for more information on that.
Does this lessen your confusion to some extent?

  • XMII Login from Html page under xMII Version 12

    Hi,
    I found this thread
    xMII Login from Html page
but I'm not sure this will also work under xMII  Version 12.
    I have now this question:
Is it possible to use a url login with loginname and password under xMII V12 similar this example for Version 11.5:
    http://server/Lighthammer/Login.jsp?IllumLoginName=accountname&IllumLoginPassword=accountpassword&session=true&target=/Test/report.irpt
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,
Has anyone had any luck with this - displaying a v12 MII screen without requiring login?
We need to be able to do this as well in order to display read-only screens on large screen monitors on the manufacturing floor without requiring login to MII.
Under v11.5 it worked with no issues.  Under v12, we haven't figured out how to do it yet.
I've waded through the NetWeaver UME documentation, have searched through the NetWeaver forums, etc. but to this point have had no luck in making it work.
We've tried enabling the UME Guest account, assigning Guest to the anonymous group and guest role (and xMII Users role), creating a Navigation for the Guest user, but still the NetWeaver login screen is displayed.
MII experts - if you are aware of how to do this can you please give detailed instructions instead of just referencing the NetWeaver / UME documentation?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Does LDAP on V12 require ABAP stack?

    Hi all:
For xMII V12 we have installed Netweaver 7.00, both the ABAP and Java stacks. We currently do not access any data from any SAP system. However, we plan to exchange data with ECC systems in the future. Two questions arise in our implementation of security:
    1) Must we have the ABAP stack to get/access data from ECC, or any other SAP system, or is the Java stack all thatu2019s needed?
    2) Weu2019d like to use LDAP for user security mangement. Can we use LDAP to manage users in the Java stack directly, or does it have to go through the ABAP stack to do this?
    Thanks.
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
I actually have an open item with SAP regarding this because if the XI remote adapter engine is installed, SAP will only support ABAP authentication for users and roles.
We have tested with 12.0 by setting mixed local UME and ABAP to avoid the overhead of authenticating with the ABAP stack for local calls to Java Web Services. I haven't tested LDAP yet.
What you'll probably find is that your user creation will be done in the chosen user store (either LDAP directory or local UME) and your xMII role assignment will be done in the local UME in both cases.
I hope this helps. We are having continuing discussions with SAP to try and support other authentication modes when a dual Java/ABAP stack is installed. Especially in a distributed scenario where the remote AE is not close to the ABAP system.
    Cheers,
    Nick

  • How to start with xMII

    Hi,
I have installed xMII 11.5 on the server, may i know how to start it and create the users in it. And will it require any database for that, i havent installed any database on that.
    With Regards,
    Mirza Kaleemulla Baig

    Hello Mirza,
You should be able to use a "super-user" account to login into SMP.
Once you're there just look for the software download link which should be somewhere near the top of the page under the SAP Support Portal heading.
Follow the navigation tree on the left until you get the option to Search for Installations and Upgrades. Just enter SAP xMII into the search field and you should get the link for the download.
