XML Importe - locking the file is large
I'm trying to import an XML file.
However, when it is locking the file is large, eg 3 MB.
If the file is small, it usually matter, however, is waging ALWAYS.
I'm using Indesign CS 6.
Can anyone help me?
Is there any way to import XML to Indesign by command line?

How can I lock the file in use
Dear All, I transfer the large text file to Solaris 10 server and copy the this file with transfer not success to another path. but I can open the file with end of file. How can I lock the file with transfer not successfully.
Locking on UNIX is cooperative, not manditory. That means that all applications need to check for the lock explicitly and then not use the file if the lock exists.
But if something is accessing the file beyond your control, locking isn't going to prevent it.
If you do control all the access points, then take a look at lockf or flock functions.

What you've written doesn't make much sense:
var myXMLFile=File.openDialog("Choose XML.......");
myDoc.importXML(File(myXMLFile.body));
In this code, myXMLFile is a File object. File objects do not have .body properties, so myXMLFile.body is not valid.
And even if a File object did have a .body property, it would presumably be some sort of XML content inside the File. But the File() constructor takes a string argument that is a filename. So File(myXMLFile.body) wouldn't work either!
I think you should take a step back and make sure you understand the basics before you try to put them together like this.
Since the importXML() method only takes a file, a solution is to read the XML file, pull out the <body/> element, write it to another file,and then call importXML() on the new file.
Alternatively, you can create an XSLT transformation and set doc.XMLImportPreferences to mandate its use. If you're not familiar with XSLT, learning it may not be appropraite for this task.
But perhaps your requirements are overly restrictive -- why can't you import the whole file and then only instruct InDesign to deal with the body element? -
My LR 4 suddenly no longer recognized my memory cards. I am using the same cards and cameras but consisitently get the error message:"files not imported because the files could not be read. they are jpg and nef files...I am stuck without my workhorse! Any advice is helpful. This has never happened in 6 years

No. After upgrading (and of course make a back up first) you will need to update iPhoto to v9.6.1 (you won't be able to do this prior to upgrading). Here's how:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Photos is v1 of a new app, as yes it's not as mature as iPhoto. It uses a different technology for working with external editors. That requires Adobe to write an extension to let it hook into the new app. Not done yet, neither has anyone else.
Going forward: iPhoto will run on OS 10.10., but there is no guarantee for subsequent versions of the OS. You might want to factor that into your anger term thinking. -
If I try to seek (or read) with the position mode wired and set for START, I get error 4 (END OF FILE) if the file is larger than 2 GB. I'm only trying to move the file pointer 4096 bytes, not trying to seek or read more than 2GB, but I get the error if the file is over 2Gig.
Instead, I have to do reads, with the position mode unwired, until I get to the place in the file that I want to be.

LabVIEW File I/O functions use an I32 value to store the size of a file. This means that we are limited to ~2GB file sizes when using the File I/O functions in LabVIEW. This explains why you are seeing odd behavior when trying to read to the end of the file, since this is causing the byte count to exceed ~2GB.
I hope this explanation sheds some light on the situation for you. Hopefully the workaround (repeated reads) is not too much of an inconvenience.

When I try to import pictures from media card to iPhoto, I'm getting the error 'The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format.' The file is a jpeg and I've never had this problem before.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -

Tried logging in to my testaccount and importing into an empty iPhoto Library -- Same problem.
Used iPhoto Library Managerto switch to a different (much smaller) LLibrary – same problem.

perConsole logs, error appears to be QTkitServer that is crashing.
Example:

based on other postings of QTkitServer crashes, Itried uninstalling:

Ideas? THANKSWell if the problem is at Quicktime level you'll need to reinstall the OS.

When I try to import a folder of jpeg files into iPhoto, only some are imported. I get the message "The following files could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)" I am running iPhoto '09 ver. 8.1.2 on OSX 10.5.8. They are all RGB.
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Remove XML tags in the File Adapter

I have a JDBC to File interface. However, there is a requirement to remove some of the XML tags from XML produced by the File Adapter.
For example,

you just need to have this:

as your target message in your mapping
and map all values to Prices tag
you don't need no content conversion - just the mapping

Possible to overwrite a pdf when in use OR alternative open a pdf without holding/locking the file
We frequently generate pdf files from our 3D program and would like to know if it's possible to either open a pdf file in a way that it doesn't get locked or hold up so the pdf can be updated even when opened or in use.
Most programs e.g. ultra edit & notepad will let go the file when you opened and hence the file can be updated or over written even when in use.

It's not possible to overwrite a pdf when it is already in use by a different program or user. The file then opens up in Read Only mode.
You can make a copy of the file and then apply those changes later in the original file. That's the only possible solution.

Press Alt or Ctrl+B to reveal the menu bar if needed.
Use File > Add Folder to Library if you just want to import it.
If you're trying to relink broken entries in a library with the corresponding media then some more details would help.

Open dataset doesn't lock the file at OS level
Hi,
I have a program, which tries to write a file on application server. Once the file is opened, and while program is writing to the file, if somebody goes at application server and deletes the file, I get a short dump, saying the file doesn't exist.
Why doesn't SAP lock the file at OS level? Why is someone able to delete the file while SAP is processing it? What is to be done to check at OS level, to see if SAP is currently writing?

JuwinI tried what Kesav and Adrian told. I created 2 programs, 1st to create a file and 2nd to move the file.

Now, I executed the 1st program. While the 1st program is running, I executed the 2nd program. The Open dataset in the 2nd program always gave me sy-subrc as 0. So, I always got the message as ready to be moved. I tried executing the programs from different SAP user IDs as well. Got the same result. So, it seems, Open dataset, doesn't even lock the file at SAP level. I cannot use Open dataset for output in the second program, because that will erase the contents of the file.
I cannot change the program, to execute a system command, because the file is created from a standard program, and we dont want to touch it. -
I exported a file on my imac as a word document but now I can't open it. It says Import error: The file format is invalid.

That's an error from the OS leaking into Photoshop. It is due to a bug in MacOS 10.10 that occurs in the open and save dialogs (which are controlled by the OS). Apple is aware of this and working on solutions.
Some people have had luck changing the view in the open/save dialogs to grid view or list view.
