Xml or mysql?

Hello,
i've made a few simple java games that i've placed on my website and i want to add high score lists to them.
I was hoping to get some opinions on the best method to something like this.
is it possible to use JDBC with one of my databases?
or should I go with a servlet to write to an xml file?
or something else entirely?
thanks.
-anthonyL

i've been studying up on serialization and remote method invocation, but am still unsure how exactly it works with an applet...
would the serialized object be stored in a file on the client's computer or on my web host so that the applet always accesses the same file?

  • XML into Mysql Database

    Hi,
I recently purchased The Dreamweaver developer toolbox, and I thought there was a behavior to import an XML file into a database (because dreamweaver bought interakt software http://www.interaktonline.com/Products/Dreamweaver-Extensions/XMLImport-Export/Statement/ )
But now I see it isn't possible anymore.
Is there someone who can help me to find a decent extention (php/mysql) to import an external xml into mysql database?
    Kind Regards,

Not DW extensions, but plenty of classes to do it at...

  • Program to import xml into mysql

Hello, I am trying to find a program that will get the url of an xml page, and it will convert it into a mysql table. I have managed to find a couple of programs that do this kind of thing, such as Exult professional edition for MySqL and Navicat, but a) They are both trial versions and their full versions require payment and b) The Navicat program can convert from xml files that are saved inside the computer. But I need the program to get the url of the xml page, because I need the database to be updated when the xml page is updated. Can anyone help me with this please?Thank you very much!

  • XML/SPRY & MySQL...Need help please!

I don't really even know how to title this new message but I
know what I would like to do. I am designing a dynamic photo
gallery and would like use the Spry/AJAX framework to display my
photos on a php web page.
The photos would be uploaded to a MySQL database on the
backend thru an insert form. I understand that Spry Datasets have
to be associated to an XML file located on the server. I know how
to format the XML file manually however I do not know how to update
the XML file on the fly. I would like to be able to upload photos
to a remote folder on ther server using PHP/MySQL via an 'insert
new record' form or an 'update record' form. Once the new photos
have been uploaded (or Updated), how can I tell the MySQL database
to update the XML file that is associated with Spry table that
displays the photos on the frontend?

You don't. All that you need to do is to generate the XML
    dynamically by
querying the database. The following page in the Spry samples
    shows you
    how to do it:

  • XML or MySQL Database: Which is Better for SEO

    Hi,
I've got a Flex 3 trivia game site, www.brainpinata.com. I load questions and answers from a database. Unfortunately, Google doesn't index content from a db as I understand it.
Would it be better for SEO, if I loaded the content from an XML file? Would Google index more of the content? Or would it make no difference?
    Thank you.

Well, As Is you wont have a Sh....Show in Hell to be noticed in any Search. Below some of the code on your site !
I can't see a TITLE ??? DESCRIPTION is writen as Keywords with commas and two full stops, but should be a sentence or two or three DESCRIBING what you are intent of doing (with the site) which would than go under 'Extract'.
These would be Key phrases NOT Key words:

It seems that i'm missing smth simple while trying to add oci8 support to RPM.
I took Christopher Jones's SRPM for 5.2.3 as a base, but since i don't have and don't need a support for instant client i modified latest available 5.1.6 SRPM from CentOS 5 repo.
    The compile env is :

    %description
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also
offers built-in database integration for several commercial and
non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts.
The php package contains the module which adds support for the PHP
    language to Apache HTTP Server.

  • Online e-learning. Can I use just flash to build the architecture?

I have over 100 students and 2000 more potential ones in schools that we give English classes to here in Spain.
I am using only flash to build my games and interactive material. Once you finish one activity I load another movie into _level0 etc...
I generally load movies and not attach.
    My question is:
    1. Will I have problems if there are 100 kids connected at the same time - or is that just a bandwidth issue with the my ISP? ie: 100 kids playing my 1MB movie is 100mb at the same time.
    2. I want to use highscores etc... I will use an sql database to keep hold of the records and fscommand with flash to get the variabes out.
I will use dreamveaver to build the apps and registration of new users etc...
Is this OK on its own. (Somebody mentioned Joomla etc... but I don't need that if I program it in with the system above.
Cheers in advance (Hope this question is OK here in the forum - if not, just tell me and I'll move it)

Thanks - I have looked up loadvars and have all code snippets.
BUT you can use text, xml or mysql to send the info.
    1. WHERE do I stick the php code I give below?
    2. How do I RETRIEVE info OUT of flash back to mysql?
    myData = new LoadVars()
            myData.ref = this
            myData.load("anastasio.asp")

  • Naming error: javax.naming.NoInitialContextException

I get the below error message when I try to run the testing class below that. I googled the exception and read:
This exception is thrown when no initial context implementation can be created. The policy of how an initial context implementation is selected is described in the documentation of the InitialContext class.
    // then I read this: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/adiehelp/index.jsp?topic=/com.sun.api.doc/javax/naming/NoInitialContextException.html
This exception can be thrown during any interaction with the InitialContext, not only when the InitialContext is constructed. For example, the implementation of the initial context might lazily retrieve the context only when actual methods are invoked on it.
I really dont understand what I read. Could someone please explain what my issue is and why it is occurring and how I could fix it.

  • Bd in a cd'rom

I'm trying to develop an application for a client in flash.
It is a catalog on CD, the customer wants a possibility to modify the elements of the catalog for the purpose of the recording again and after
this record a cd give to customers.
Is it possible to make a database work within the CD? So that way I could use flash + xml + php + mysql.
So the database would work within the CD as a weighted connection queries client.
As the manager of the articles could change them on the her pc, in order to burn 20 or 1000  cd's with the modification, and distribute them with the
    changes made.

To use the PHP you'll need access to a server. Perhaps this may help:
    http://www.server2go-web.de/
But you seem to be throwing a lot of things at the CD...
must contain all the catalog content, images, text, pages for layout etc.
must also contain a server to run the PHP
must contain the PHP and MySQL databases
must be re-writeable (if it is to be modified and then saved again)
A CD only has about 700MB of storage... maybe that's enough for everything listed about but perhaps not.
Using a re-writeable DVD data disk would give you 6+ times the data storage... but again, you'll need a re-writeable, and that out need to be compatable with your clients machine if you want everything to be self contained.
    Best of luck!

  • Regarding SQL Database Initialization

    Hello All,
I had an existing working version of LiveCycle on Server A which had two drives; A.1 and A.2. Do to space constraints we decided to move the Adobe LiveCycle ES2 folder from drive A.1 to A.2. We had not created anything so we werent worried about loosing any data. When it was installed on to drive A.1 it was runnning on the default MYSQL database that is created when you install using jboss turnkey. . But now we want to connect our jboss application to a SQL server database. I went ahead and walked through the documentation in order create the database and users. I also made the modicications to the XML files within jboss. The problem I am having is when I try to run the LiveCycle ES2 Database Initialization in the Configuration Manager, I get the following error:

Are there other files that I need to configure in order to switch the application from the default MYSQL to the new SQL Database? And is there any way for me to test the connection to the database before I attempt to initialize it.
    Thanks in advance.

First and foremost you cannot use the XMLs which are part of turnkey JBoss directly.
You should discard adobe-ds.xml and mysql-ds.xml from <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy and get hold of SQL Server specific adobe-ds.xml and mssql-ds.xml and then make necessary modifications w.r.t your SQL Server.
In addition to this you would have to modify login-config.xml as well to add an entry of application policy for MSSQL DB.
If you have performed all these steps and still issues are coming then the error could be because of any of the reasons mentioned below:
The XMLs that you have configured
    The connection pools configured
    Missing database driver jar
    I would recommend the following:
    1) Make sure driver jar for SQL Server (most probably sqljdbc.jar) exists in <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/lib directory
    2) Ensure that you have modified the following XML files correctly:
    adobe-ds.xml and mssql-ds.xml inside <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy directory
    login-config.xml inside <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/conf directory
    3) Ensure that you have removed mysql-ds.xml from the <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy directory
Try opening the XMLs in a browser to verify that they are modified correctly.
You won't find an option to test the connection in LCM.
Though you could try starting up your JBoss without any EARs and see if it is coming up without issues.

  • Looking for a way to disable the "GET" button

I have a user who would like to only allow the progressive streaming playback in iTunes U (ie disable the get button). I haven't seen any way to do this in the docs but it's entirely likely I'm missing some simple (or not) way to do this.

You know, say after about, oh, six, seven beers I sometimes think, "Hey, I should write a book about iTunes U." It would be called something like "Deploying iTunes U" ... it wouldn't make any money (few tech books do) ... but it would win me loads of "wuv" (remember this is the beer talking). Then, of course, the next day rolls along and I realize how much work writing a book would actually be ... and then I think, "Crapspackle! ... how many beers did I have?"
But if I were to write that iTunes U book, Chapter 1 would be called "About iTunes U" (every tech book has to start this way ... "About XML", "About MySQL", "About TCP/IP" ... like that) ... and the last section in that chapter would be called "What iTunes U is not". The first few paragraphs in that section would read this way ...
iTunes U is not a streaming service. Sure, content displayed in iTunes U can be double-clicked and it will play ... in effect, content does stream. But while iTunes U can be made to stream content, you should not think of it as a generalized streaming service. The model for iTunes U is the iTunes Store. Think about why the iTunes Store succeeds. Podcasters do not stream ... people have been streaming since the mid-90s ... but podcasting took the world by storm. Why? Because content wasn't tethered to a network connection ... it became as portable as the iPod. This is the model you're buying into; this is the target you're aiming for.
Whenever faculty at my site make "But ... !!" arguments, they pretty much run along one of the following lines:
    1. When I stream, students can't redistribute my content. I have control.
Any reasonably determined person can capture a stream and redistribute it -- it is not technically "hard" to do. If a student wants to get your content onto an iPod or a PSP, he/she can easily do so. Do not fool yourself into thinking it can't happen. Chance are, it already has.
    2. I have copyrighted material in my content -- I can't afford for students to redistribute my content. I have to "know" that only students can get access to my content.
See response to Argument 1. In addition, I have found that many instructors have naive notions about what copyright permits and forbids (and please do not be offended if you, dear reader, are an instructor ... copyright is really complicated, it's not your fault). From a copyright standpoint, streaming is basically irrelevant (you are not "protected" if you stream).
At my university, we have a designated copyright authority. It is her job to know what's permitted and what's not for us. In any conversation with a faculty member about whether to stream or not, I always recast the question this way: "Are you allowed to use the material in a public way at all?" In every instance, I refer the questioning faculty member to our copyright expert for clarification.
    3. I want to make sure my students are sitting at desktop computer when they view my content. A stream forces them to do so.
Not anymore. Think about how many phones have YouTube clients. Remember that these technologies are, for the most part, being driven by what students say they need. Students want to learn asynchronously -- that is, they want to listen to a summary of your lecture while commuting to campus; they want to listen to your supplementary materials while working out. A significant part of what makes iTunes U so cool and unique is that it exploits the synergy that exists between iTunes, the iTunes Store, and iPod music players. When you try to force students to view your material as a stream, you break this synergy. If you will not provide content the way students want to get it, they'll create their own solutions (see response to Argument 1).
It can be tough to wrap your head around, but if you provide students with what they want, they won't circumvent your efforts. In effect, you will have the greater control. It requires a Zen way of thinking. If you focus on creating great content, and letting students get access to it asynchronously, you are taking away from the the major motivation for redistributing your work without permission.

  • New to java needs advice

    Hi,
I'm completely new to java and after a few days search found Studio Creator and decided to use it. Happily developing for a week in JSC, I reached the deployment to Tomcat stage.
Mybe I'm missing something but I find this stage ruining the ease-of-use feeling which I got when I started using JSC.
Am I right that JSC doesn't have a built-in functionality to deploy to Tomcat whithout my intervention, considering my total unfamiliarity with xml, jsp, mysql, etc.?
If so do you guys know of another easy-to-use IDE like JSC?
    Any pointers are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Abraham

  • Communication problem MYSQL PHP XML Flash.

I have driven myself into a corner with this so I hope someone here knows a solution.
I am building a photogallery with a simple html layout but with a flash slideshow.
The data for each album and photo are stored in a mysql database. Each photo-image is in one big folder on the server. With PHP I sort out which photo belongs to what album and display them accordingly. To start the slideshow people can click on a link near the album, this link will send a < href> with the album ID to an PHP file (xml.php) that will generated an XML output created from the MYSQL server. Here comes my problem:
Loading XML into flash is no problem BUT I only know how to do this with a static or self supporting XML output. (xml.php needs the input of the album ID else it will not get the correct data). For now I have a temporary solution where I write the XML output from xml.php to a txt file and let Flash read from there, but is there a way where I can read directly from xml.php?

Echo your formatted xml out as a string in xml.php, Flash will then read your dynamically generated XML.
