XML Parsing error - iTunes will not run config.xml missing

I have a new error code that I cannot find an answer to on any forum. Here is the error message:
XML Parsing error
XML Parsing error inside file 'C:\Documents and Settings\lmorrison\Application Data\iTunesControl\config.xml
Error: First Tag not found
At line 0, column 0.
First Tag should be 'itc'.
This error message pops up when attempting to run iTunes. The only way I've been able to get it to run is to take the library.xml file, rename it as config.xml and paste it into the iTunesControl folder. That's good for one run only. Then I have to copy and paste it again every time I want to run iTunes.
My issue is... I have no config.xml file. It's gone missing. No idea why. I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled. Same error. I wiped every single spec of iTunes off my computer down to removing all instances in the computer registry. Same error. I have installed and uninstalled versions of iTunes back to iTunes 6. Same error. I have wiped and installed from iTunes installation disc. Same error. Help! The only thing I can think of is to locate someone with a working iTunes and copy their config.xml file to my computer. Apple was no help at all and merely suggested installing the latest version of iTunes... yeah... thanx.
Any ideas are appreciated.

I don't even have this iTunesControl folder!
C:\Documents and Settings\ username \Application Data\ iTunesControl
Did you ever install this itunesControl program? Maybe that's why you have that folder and I don't. I just googled on iTunesControl.

edit - the only thing Apple installs is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\ username \Application Data\Apple Computer

Try updating your QuickTime Player to the most recent version. Does that clear up the launch errors?

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

I just finished installing 11.3 and now iTunes will not run. I have uninstalled itunes and resinstalled several times. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)

    Hi Greybeard1955,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that iTunes is not opening after uninstalling and re-installing it. When iTunes is uninstalled on a Windows computer, all of its components must be removed as well and they must be removed in a specific order. Below is the article for uninstalling on Windows 7. I recommend uninstalling iTunes and all components in order and reinstalling fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    I hope this helps,

from a system clean up and deletion of restore points!! iTunes ill not run I have tied reinstalling, repairing, uninstalling following with an install and still it will not run! I have obviously deleted something relatively important and now the computer has no restore point which will resolve my issue.
    Help is greatly appreciated.

The 2096 erro may be associated with running in compatabilty mode, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305212
None of the tick boxes on the compatability tab should be checked.
It is also worth checking iTunes.exe in c:Program Files\iTunes.

Are you able to successfully download an installer if you use Firefox instead of IE or vice versa? (Firefox handles network/internet connections differently from other browsers, so an issue in IE can sometimes be overcome by using Firefox or vice versa.)

  • Itunes will not run unless I disable bonjour

itunes only runs when I disable the "bonjour" service and thus cannot sync with my itouch, as, from what I learnt it's the bonjour service that allows the sync to happen. If I disable it itunes will not launch, I enable it, I cannot sync my ipod touch, it doesn't see it! Please help if you know how to fix this.
    Thanks

The only sign that its had any activity was last night when I tried to shut down my computer I got a "Not responding" window about itunes store...
Hmmm. with that one, perhaps try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(A LSP issue in theory could affect an iTunes launch via the Bonjour Service, although the symptom isn't mentioned in the document.)

  • Itunes will not run after update. Windows 8.1

I have windows 8.1 and just downloaded the latest update. The icon has disappeared from the desktop and the program will not run. Can I uninstall and reinstall without losing my library? Please help. Can't live without my music!!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes will not run. Several error codes. Please help

A couple months ago I tried updating iTunes and received the error "Could not open key:
    UNKNOWN\Components\69413F169B198734FA40BC8B73511DB0\108B43C0CEA676640B35306AE7D2 4051.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." (take note my key is different than the one above thats just for an example.) So I read and read and finally figured out that my problem came down to permissions for that key. I changed the permissions and voila it installed properly! But now I just tried updating again because I want to get iOS5 on my iPhone4. I received the same error again, "Could not open key..." so I thought heck this is an easy fix and I changed the permissions again and this time it did not work. So then I uninstalled Quicktime, iTunes, and all other Apple software from my computer (which is running Windows 7 btw). I tried to reinstall iTunes and then it went through the install and finally comes to a screen that says "iTunes has successfully been installed on your computer." So I closed that window, restarted my computer, clicked on the iTunes icon and I get a completely different error now. This error is a two-part pop up. The first error window that pops up says:
"The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll."
    I click OK.
    Then I get:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)"
I've tried reinstalling it again and I get the same error. I tried stuff from this thread ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2262389?start=0&tstart=0 ) and it doesnt seem to be working. Can someone please help me work through this. I would appreciate it very much, and please explain everything in computer-illiterate terms as I'm not the greatest with computers these days.
    Thank you,
    Max

OK, so iTunes opens OK in another account so it is a user specific problem.
Just to be absolutely clear, have you carried out the all the user specific steps:
    Remobe plugins
    Remove preference files
    Recreate Library
Check for Content files with issues.
One of those steps usually solves user specific issues.
Something else that you could try is to create a new iTunes library elsewhere on your disk.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose or create a library. Select "Create" and create a new library somewhere way from the your music folder eg in Documents - so it is completely separate from your existing iTunes.
    Does iTunes Open like this?
If so go do Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced and Un-check "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library". This is to stop iTunes copying your music files when you add to you new library.
Now try adding music from your original iTunes Music folder in stages as in the "Content files with issues" section.
This approach has worked for someone else although they did not say if they stuck with their test library or if they ever found the problem with the original one.

  • Itunes will not run, apple application support not found

error when I install and try to run iTunes.  Apple application support not found, uninstall and download again

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
