XML Publisher Desktop Db connect SQL Server Host:Port:Sid

Brand new to XML Publisher. Set up XML Publisher Enterprise environment to work with SQL Server 2005 using both MS 2000 & 2005 JDBC drivers, so far no problem.
However the XML Publisher Desktop Report Wizard will not connect to SQL Server 2005 using either MS 2000 & 2005 JDBC drivers. I provide the same data source name, user and pw that I use in the XML Publisher Enterprise environment but it is the 4th piece of information - the database portion (Host:Port:Sid) that I am having trouble with. SID is an Oracle invention not used in the SQL Server world. I have tried various combinations of the database string without sucess.
Perhaps the XML Publisher Desktop does not work with SQL Server. Does anyone know how to use XML Publisher Desktop to create templates that will work with MS SQL Server?
Thank you.
BG...

Shaun,
Thanks for you comments. I belive I now have enough to use the HSGC-ODBC technique to make the template and then re-edit it to make it work with the original JDBC connection.
That said, "Using ODBC-JDBC bridge connection is really poor in performance." I, more than anyone on the planet am aware of this issue and more.
Being new to XMLPublisher I thought that having a JDBC connection to a SQL Server from XMLP Enterprise led me to beleive that the XMLP Desktop template creation tool would also work. "*** Pity the fool ***" for thinking that! (Thank-you Mr. T!!! <grin>).
Because I had to engage a 'heterogeneous connectivity" solution to this problem indicates that the product is half-baked. That's not to say that it is not capable.
Rushing software products to market quickly creates products that make the rest of us jump through hoops. I resent that!!! I have more import things to do than waste time!
I demand more of a trusted vendor, do you? I have tortured myself with Oracle products thinking they were ready since the early nineties.
Look we are in a "heterogeneous universe" and if the product pretends to work with "heterogeneous databases" on the Enterprise side than it damn well aught to work with them on the Desktop side. That's my opinion.
Attention OTN: I am back!!!
Justin, this needs to be fixed.
Thanks!

  • R12 XML Publisher desktop version

    Hi,
    I am searching for the XML Publisher desktop version for R12. Is there anyone know?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Yes this version of template builder is suitable for R12. I would recommend the your download the latest version though from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/publishing/index.html.
    The latest version is called :
    BI Publisher Desktop 10.1.3.3.1 for Windows (131 MB)
    The latest releases fixes a few bugs in the Template Builder Plug-in for MS Word.
    As you are using EBS and not BI Publisher standalone, you will not be able to use the functionality to connect to the BI Publisher server, as this does not exist yet for EBS. For template development purposes, this version will do exactly the same job for BI Publisher with EBS and BI Publisher Standalone.
    I hope this helps.

  • Question?  XML Publisher Desktop

    Hi Folks,
    I'm exploring this option for my organization and I have a question or two.
    I have remote users logging in to develop their reports. Is the XML Publisher Desktop required to build their reports or is it only a nice to have? If they're sufficiently good at SQL and XML can they bypass this application?
    If not, does the XML Publisher Desktop cost anything to install on these remote machines?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi Tony
    They do not need the XMLP desktop, they can either build templates in MSWord or handcode the XSL directly. The tools do not cost any extra once you have licensed XMLP.

  • XML Publisher Report with PL/SQL

    Hi
    Like to know how to develop the XML Publisher Report with PL/SQL, i did the following
    1. created a pkg like as below
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY APPS.TEST_XMLTAG_PKG AS
    PROCEDURE main (errbuf OUT VARCHAR2,
    retcode OUT NUMBER
    ) IS
    BEGIN
    DECLARE
    ctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;
    xml CLOB;
    BEGIN
    ctx := dbms_xmlgen.newcontext('select * from scott.emp');
    dbms_xmlgen.setrowtag(ctx, 'MY-ROW-START-HERE');
    xml := dbms_xmlgen.getxml(ctx);
    dbms_output.put_line(xml);
    Fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.LOG, XML);
    END;
    END;
    END TEST_XMLTAG_PKG;
    this pkg produces the output with xml tag in the view log.
    I have registered the conc program & xml rtf but it does not produce the output in PDF, , I am not able to get the xml tag when i click the Diagnostics --> View XML.
    can you please let me know the next steps involved.
    Regards
    Yram

    I think the problem is because there is no begin and end tag. save the xml from the logfile and open with xml editor or IE.. then you will see the problem.
    add Begin and end tag...then you should be fine.. i.e
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,'<EMP_DATA>'); -- begin Tag
    tx := dbms_xmlgen.newcontext('select * from scott.emp');
    dbms_xmlgen.setrowtag(ctx, 'MY-ROW-START-HERE');
    xml := dbms_xmlgen.getxml(ctx);
    dbms_output.put_line(xml);
    Fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.LOG, XML);
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,'</EMP_DATA>'); -- End Tag
    Hope this helps..>Good Luck

  • Invoking XML Publisher Report from PL/SQL

    Hi,
    I have a PL/SQL procecedure which invokes the Concurrent Request for the XML Publisher Report. This one finishes with a warning and I get 'Unable to publish output' when I try to view the output. Exact Error: "Unable to find the published output for this request "
    But if I run the same report using Concurrent program, the Report executes with no error. Also the desired output is coming. I am not sure where I am doing wrong in code.
    My code which invokes the XML Publisher Report (from PL/SQL package)is something like this:
    declare
    x boolean;
    l_no_of_copies varchar2(45);
    l_printername varchar2(45);
    l_print_style varchar2(45);
    l_result boolean;
    y number;
    begin
    x := fnd_request.add_layout (template_appl_name => 'XXTMG', template_code => 'XXT_5001_BOL_T', template_language => 'EN', template_territory => 'US', output_format => 'XML');
    l_no_of_copies := fnd_profile.VALUE ('XXTMG_SH_BOL_REPORT_NO_OF_COPIES');
    l_printername := fnd_profile.VALUE ('XXTMG_SH_BOL_REPORT_PRINTER');
    l_print_style := NULL; --For setting the Printer Options
    l_result := fnd_request.set_print_options (l_printername, l_print_style, l_no_of_copies, TRUE, 'N');
    l_result := fnd_request.add_printer (l_printername, 0);
    y := fnd_request.submit_request ('XXTMG', 'XXT_5001_BOL', '', TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS'), FALSE, 'CH-120079') ;
    end;
    Please let me know where I might be going wrong
    Thanks

    Hi Sumit,
    You can try with this code:
    exec dbms_application_info.set_client_info(org_id)
    exec fnd_global.APPS_INITIALIZE(user_id,resp_id,appl_id);
    declare
    x boolean;
    l_no_of_copies varchar2(45);
    l_printername varchar2(45);
    l_print_style varchar2(45);
    l_result boolean;
    y number;
    begin
    x := fnd_request.add_layout ('XXTMG' --template_appl_name
              ,'XXT_5001_BOL_T' --template_code
              ,'en' --template_language
         ,'US' --template_territory
         ,'XML' --output_format
    if (x=TRUE) then
    y := fnd_request.submit_request (
                        'XXTMG'           --application
                        ,'XXT_5001_BOL'      --program
                        ,SYSDATE          --start_time
                        ,FALSE               --sub_request
                        ,'CH-120079'          --argument1 (Program's Parameter)
    if y>0 then
              dbms_output.put_line('Request ID '||y);
    end if;
    end if; --if (x=TRUE) then
    end;
    Make sure that program has only one input parameter. If program has other parameters then you can pass those parameters like argument1, argument2... etc.
    Now you can see this submited request in your application using your user id. If you able to see your request in concurrent request then you can add printer parameters in this programs.
    You don't need to pass all 100 parameters.
    I am executing many programs/reports using this code.
    Thanks

  • PeopleSoft XML Publisher Desktop installation issue

    Hi,
    I've tried to install the XML publisher desktop desing helper.
    I've installed it without error. But when i open the Office word program, it didn't show up the Template Builder menu on office tool bar.
    I've tried to do the following:
    1. Set the trust center setting in word option, Marco is all enabled, and the VBA project is checked.
    2. Close the Microsfot program, IE, Word, etc.
    3. Close the MSN Messager program
    4. Uninstall the MSN Live
    5. Then I re-run the installation file of XMLp several times to re-install it.
    After that, i still can not find any menu tool bar named "Templdate Builder" in word program.
    During the installation, there's no error, the install process is smoothly ended, but in the word program there's no menu for Template Builder.
    The version of Microsoft Word is 2007, and the version of XMLp Design helper for Word is 5.6.2, and the Java JRE version is 1.6.07.
    Please help on figuring this!
    Thanks,
    Saxon SI

    Hi:
    Check for Add-Ins in Word Options. Make sure that TemplateBuilder.dot is active; and look for 'Add-Ins' menu on your document. XML Publisher menus will be visible on that tab.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sameer.

    I had a similar error which when I searched, came up with this thread.
    My issue was resolved after I discovered that my RTF template was not really RTF. It was sill in MS Word DOC format. This was discovered by reviewing two templates in NOTEPAD. The MS-DOC files have a lot of "special" characters in them. My RTF was not really RTF.
    After doing a SAVE AS - RTF format, then the preview worked as expected.

    I want to know that How can I connect SQL server Enterprise Manager Version 8.0 with Forms/reprots 6i.
    currently I have oracle 9i database at server windows 2003 and I also connected with client (my PC) I work on server.

    You can't. The closest thing would be to create links in an oracle database to the SQL Server database using Heteregeneous Services and connect forms to the that.
    This forum is for the SQLDeveloper tool. You will get more complete answers in the "Database General", or "Heterogeneous Services" forums

    Regs....

    Are you trying to connect to SQL Server from your Oracle database (i.e. create a database link in Oracle to SQL Server)? Or are you trying to connect to SQL Server using your Oracle client software (i.e. SQL*Plus)?
    The former just requires Heterogeneous Services with Generic Connectivity. The latter is functionality that has been depricated and probably no longer works in your environment.
