Xml report in new window

hi all,
actually we are generating xml document for a report and showing the content on the browser with 'response' object . we need to show that in a new window,.
we restricted the browser buttons for security reasons , so because it was opening in the same window we cannot go back to our application . the alternative i got is that changing the xml file type association to any other editor instead of Internet browser but this is not a solution
please help me
thanks in advance
with regards
satya

hi all,
my problem was solved, once again many thanks to jean Francois.
Try this:
function newWindow() {
window.open("", "exportWindow");
EmployeeInfoForm.action = EmployeeInfoForm.action +
"?command=export";
EmployeeInfoForm.target = "exportWindow";
EmployeeInfoForm.submit();
Regards,
Jean-Francois
i made a small change to EmployeeInfoForm.action not to append "?command=export" every time when this script calls
var act= EmployeeInfoForm.action;
EmployeeInfoForm.action = EmployeeInfoForm.action +
"?command=Export";
EmployeeInfoForm.action=act;
Apart from this solution meanwhile i tried out one alternative,
when user chooses xml
docName=someName
docType=xml
if(docType.equalsIgnoreCase("xml"))
               response.setContentType("text/plain");
               //docName= URLEncoder.encode("\""+"a"+".xml" + "\"");
          docName= "\""+docName+".xml" + "\"";
               System.out.println(docName);
               docType="txt";
          response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + docName + "." + docType);
ServletOutputStream sos = response.getOutputStream();
               sos.write(dataBytes);
sos.close();
just i made the filename as someName as "someName.xml.txt" with qoutes.
so that with extension .txt makes to open in notepad rather than to browser , thus avoiding my problem of opening the content of same browser window, this worked fine, but when saving this document i expected the file name as "someName.xml" with qoutes so that the file will save with .xml but i see someName.xml withoutqoutes. when i save this, the file was saved as someName.xml .txt.
but when user types his own file name xyz than the file was saved xyz.xml
can any suggest me how can i save the file name with qoutes.
and can anyone explain me whats happening when i do like this
with regards

    Hi,
    The view itself is a Web Part called an XSLT List View Web Part (XLV for short). This Web Part is stored on an ASPX page that is by default associated with a list or library on your site.
    I suggest you can check if the view page is valid, also, you can try to create another view, then redirect to the view page to see if there is xslt in the page.

  • Open "Navigate" enabled report in new window - OBI10g.

    Hello Experts,
    May be its novice user question, i have 2 reports, source and target reports. Both reports are connected using "Navigate" functionality.
    Issue is, i wan to open the target report in new window? is that possible?
    using GO URL: we have an option like target='_blank'. but in navigate.. what is the option?
    Thanks in advance....
    Regards,
    Kiran

    The Navigate feature can be modified to open targets in a new window by following the below steps:
    - Edit OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\b_mozilla\viewhelper.js
    - Search for function NavigateInfo()
    - Find the line with code this.sWindowTarget = "_self";
    - Replace the line as this.sWindowTarget = "_blank";
    - Clear the browser cache and reload the page.
    The navigation targets will now open in a new window.

  • Need to open click through SSRS report in new window

    Hello :)
    I have a click through report and the requirement that I have is that I should be able to open it in a new window. The report has lot of parameters and I tried to use this query but it gives me error that parameter is missing
    ="javascript:void(window.open('http://reportservername/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%Reports%&rs:Command=Render &Parameter1="+Parameters!Parameter1.Value+"&Parameter2=" + Parameters!Parameter2.Value +
    "&Parameter3=" + Parameters!Parameter3.Value+"'))"
    It does open the report in new window, however it says that parameter is missing.....(few parameters are dates and few strings). Please any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

    Hi,
    You need to use the URL of report server rather than report manager. Modify the URL like:
    ="javascript:void(window.open('http://servername/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2ffolder_name%2fdrillthrough_report_name&rs:Command=Render

  • Transfer_State (open report in new window) with a PreQuery

    Hi
    As part of the standard template that we deliver to end users, one of the buttons in the toolbar is a button that allows the user to open the report in a new window. This means they can view the report without all the additional information that portal adds, which is quite useful for large reports.
    However, what I have found is one of our templates is not opening correctly, as the variable selection screen appears when the report is transferred to the new window (using TRANSFER_STATE command). For all the other templates, the filter values are remembered, so whatever values were entered on the selection screen, and whatever navigation was performed is transferred to the new window.
    The only difference I can see between the templates that work and the one that doesn't, is that the "error" one has a query which in turn has a pre-query.
    Is this a SAP bug, or standard behaviour, or something that we can get around?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
    We too had this issue when using transfer state.  All filter values where we used an exit would reset.  SAP said this was standard behaviour.  We ended up having to re-design and create all out templates!
    Cheers,
    Nick.

  • Open oracle report in new window from method

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to do some stuff in the view object, save changes, launch an oracle report 10g in a new window, and then navigate to a new page on a SINGLE button press.
    I can get all this done using a command button to call may backing bean and a goButton to launch my report, but need to combine these into a single button.
    My question is, is there any way to launch my new window and report from the backing bean?
    Or is there some other way to accomplish these requirements?
    this is a JSF/BC app, jdev 10.1.3.3
    Thanks,
    Jim

    What if I have to do validation against the inputs that are used to dynamically generate the report url in the backing bean when clicking the "Button". I couldn't see there is a way for <af:goButton> to implement that. I think there should be some kind of action or listener in the backing where I can do the validation before I decide to open the new window for report.
    I searched the forum and there is a post that will use a form to open the report window using target="_blank" in the form's attribute, but that works only if we don't have to validate the inputs.
    I also tried to find a solution that will open a new windows in the backing bean by invoking a javascript, that javascript function will have the report url generated in the backing bean as the parameter. But so far, I couldn't find one with my ADF version 10.1.3.2.0. It looks like that in ADF 11, this approach might be feasible.
    Any idea, hints?

  • Open Sub Report in New Window

    Hi,
    We have an application which is integrated with crystal reports.
    So when you open a report from the application it opens up in a new window. (Ours is a web based application and crystal reports opens up in IE browser)
    We have some reports which have subreports (on demand ), is there any crystal report configuration through which these subreports can be opened in a new window, as of now they open in the same main report window.
    Thanks in advance

    hello,
    you may wish to look into saving the subreport as a separate report and then:
    1) calling the report via opendocument (if your app sits on top of businessobjects enterprise or crystal reports server)
    2) calling the report via URL reporting if your app does not utilize the above platforms
    i can't guarantee the above will work as it may depend on your environment that you are hosting the reports in.
    see the help guide [here |http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf]for more information on linking
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf
    as per using a subreport and opening in a new window, this doesn't really work.
    if you want though, you can use a Report Part link to go from the open subreport back to the main report. please see more on Report Part linking in your crystal report's online help.

  • Open a report in new window ADF 11g

    I am trying to open a report in a new window. The problem is that I am having a link in a .jsff file when I click this link I go to another view activity using dialog: outcome and in the constructor of the backing for the target page I write the following code:
    ExternalContext ectx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
    HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) ectx.getRequest();
    String temp = "http://localhost:7101/cms/report";
    try {
    ectx.redirect(temp);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    This code was working fine with ADF 10g but in 11g this code throws for me ResponseAlreadyCommit exception. I think that this is coming because .jsff is using PPR and this is not a full request but it is XMLRequest.
    SO, I tried to use the URL activity and make an outcome to this URL view activity BUT although the report appears but it is not displayed in a new window
    I can't use a javascript because to open a new window because some processing is done in the backing bean for the report parameters send from the page.
    Please any suggestion for this
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    one option I would see is to create a task flow that uses a JSPX page. The input parameter for this page would pass in the URL to call. Then you configure the task flow to be called from a call activity in the bounded task flow with the page fragment. On the task flow call activity configure it to open in a separate window

  • Oracle Report in New window with submit

    Hello, I'm in urgent need of an example on how submit a page and open a Oracle Report in a new window. I've searched the forum and found similiar threads, but not exactly what I need. Basically, I have an html page with cascading LOVs in which the user can cascade down until they get to the report (oracle report) they will like to generate. I'm using Patrick's ApexLib for my cascading LOVs. The user can also pick a date range via a Date Picker. I need the page to submit so that paramters from the LOVs and Date Picker can be passed to the Oracle Report. The Oracle Report needs to open in a new window. Currently I'm using a button item using a branch which runs the report fine, but it comes up in the same page. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance for your help!
    Lou

    Hi Lou,
    you don't have to submit the page. If you have all the values on your page in HTML input fields you are fine. You would only submit it if you want to do some additional processing on the server to calculate values, ...
    So just create a button with "Redirect URL without submitting page",
    set "Target is a" to "URL" and use the following code in the "URL Target" property.
    javascript:popupURL('http://your_oracle_report_url/regionid='+$x('P4_REGION_ID').value+'city='+$x('P4_CITY').value);The $x('some_page_item').value is used in JavaScript to reference the current value of an HTML field. Use the same identifier as you have used for your item in APEX.
    Hope that helps

  • JSF app - open report in new Window - via JSP?

    I have been reading through this forum but no one has done quite what I am trying so I thought I'd post my own version of this problem.
    The web app I'm working on is basically a report generator. Data is formatted via XSLT to .html files - that part works great. The problem is getting the app to open this new HTML file in a new window. I want to get this working with little or no JavaScript.
    startReport.jsp (a JSF file) is the form that validates the user input. The sole h:commandButton (I do NOT want a link) works fine sending the form and JSF returns its errors or mine (if the criteria results in nothing) as it should; the action method returns "failure" so the page stays the same.
    But when the action method returns "success" the JSF navigation-rule is setup to route to showReportFile.jsp (which is NOT a JSF file). This JSP is very simple:
    <%@ page import="java.io.File" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.PrintWriter" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.FileReader" %>
    <%@ page import="com.logipath.gict.cts.reporting.client.ReportClient" %>
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="reportClient" scope="session" class="com.logipath.gict.cts.reporting.client.ReportClient" />
    <%
    String fileName = reportClient.getReportOutputFile();
    PrintWriter writer = response.getWriter();
    char[] buffer = new char[1024];
    FileReader reader = new FileReader(fileName);
    int numRead = reader.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
    while ( numRead != -1 ) {
         writer.write(buffer, 0, numRead);
         numRead = reader.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
    reader.close();
    writer.close();
    File file = new File(fileName);
    file.delete();
    %>This works believe it or not. If I put the target="_blank" on the form tag in the startReport.jsp it even opens in a new window. Great. But with that attribute on the form element, if the page comes back in error - it shows up in a new window (as it is apt to do given the attiribute).
    Ok, the h:commandButton tag's target attribute is ignored. Fine. There has to be a way to do this but I just cannot figure it out and I'm no JSP expert.
    What I think will work is this. Since my report beans create HTML files, I've created a session bean called "currentReportBean" which holds a single attribute - the name of the HTML file to display. (This is how the JSP above works.)
    What I need to know now *(this is the question part)* is how can I flush the render response of my JSF life cycle, trigger the opening of this JSP in a new window, the restart the JSF life cycle at the begining so the "parent" page repaints normally? The JSP isn't part of the JSF page flow so I there's no "going back" or "refresh" to worry about. I would like to take the showReportFile.jsp file out of the navigation files altogether.
    I know this topic has been worked on at length, but not quite this way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    arnieAustin wrote:
    No, the JSP resets the bean value after showing the file.My mistake; it wasn't the reload scenario that is an issue. It is when the user goes back and forth in history that this can be a problem.
    >
    But now I'm confused. JS cannot access server-based session values. How is it going to know to open the page? A cookie?Write the value to a JS variable when you render the page.

  • How to run Oracle Report in new window

    Hi,
    There appear to be many threads regarding this issue, but so far I've been unable to piece together a solution to my problem.
    My requirements are quite simple really.
    - Invoke an Oracle Report from an HTMLDB page
    - Pass parameters form the page to the report URL
    - Run the report in a new window
    I have created a simple example at:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=36506:1
    Page 1 contains the following HTML Header attribute
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function callMyPopup (url){
    w = open(url,"winLov","");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    w.focus();
    </script>
    The URL i wish to invoke is
    http://myappserver/reports/rwservlet?test/test@test+report=test.rdf+&P1_PARAMETER.
    My question is, where would I put the code to invoke the URL? I'm trying to use the following code
    javascript:callMyPopup('http://myappserver/reports/rwservlet?test/test@test+report=test.rdf+&P1_PARAMETER.');
    I've tried putting this in a branch but I get a 'Page can not be displayed' error.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I'm trying to invoke an oracle report through a button in apex2.2. Please let me know how to display the report in a new window.
    I have put the URL as of now in the branch of the button, and the report is getting displayed in the same window.
    I've read some of the posts and put the URL as the target of the button instead of a branch and also used the javascript:popupURL(), but it still doesnt work for me. The URL works fine without the javascript.
    I have put the URL as of now in the branch of the button, and the report is getting displayed in the same window.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Report in new window

    Hi,
    Can I make a suggestion for a new feature. Could we have a page attribute that allows the page to be opened in a new window. Currently the only way is to create a js file with some java script. It would be nice to have that as a build in option.

    There's an easy work-around (read:hack) to accomplish your goal. Edit the link attribute of your linked column (there has to be a better way to say that), add the following to the end of it:
    " target="_blank
    Here's how this works. The reporting engine will glue in:
    to open the anchor tag. The end result of this hack is:
    Basically, you close the href attribut and put in the target attribute but DO NOT close it as the reporting engine is going to glue a closing " on the end.
    Hope this helps,

  • Need to add print and download options for report in new window

    Hi,
    On one of the columns empid of the report1 (which is on the dashboard) , I am using navigation and pointing it to report2.
    Report1 has all the links, print, download and refresh (I enabled them using the section properties) but when I click on empid and it takes me to report2, then I don't see any links under that report. I want to include print and download links for report2 when it opens in the new window.
    I know, one way is to embedd that report in the dashboard page and hide it, but is there any other way of doing it?
    Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Just to clarify again, I am using a navigation from report1 (which is on the dashboard) to report2 (which is not on the dashboard).
    As per the requirements, I can't put my report2 on any dashboard page and hide it and then use navigation. Also, I can't enable the print and download options for report1 which is already on the dashboard. Doing this gives me print and download options for report2 but that is not the requirement.
    Is there any way to have print and download options for report2 when I am directly navigating to the report2 from report1 and not the report2 on any dashboard page which is hidden.
    I will really appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks,
    RonnyPlease explain why you can't do what I said. What is the "requirements" that prevent this? It would be transparent to the user, really. They just click and get their report.
