Xmlp reports in different languages using XLIFF translation
We are doing xmlp reports in different languages using XLIFF translation and it is working fine. But for Arabic and Japanese pdf reports printing “????” instead off Arabic and Japanese. Upgraded Adobe Acrobat Reader to 7.0 and down loaded languages support updates but its still not working.
Are we missing anything?
Hi,
I am also facing the same issue. I am also getting "????" instead of Hebrew translation. I am trying to generate PDF file using the XMLP API. It works fine when tried to generate from MS Word using the "Preview Translation" option.
Please let me know is there any configuration parameters that need to be set.

Srinuthanks for replying, but i tried this option too, it did not work for me, neither isnull nor coalesce. I mean, the solution work for single value but when i pass multiple values then separated by a comma then it doesn't work and shows me an error like "Incorrect Syntax ','". I am using SQL server as DB and bip is 10.1.3.4.1
also please share the SR number, so i can also check the same.
can there be any other work around to this?

Displaying text in different languages using smart forms
hi,
I am working on smartfroms.
I have to display the text in different languages using smartforms.
how to proceed ?
thanks,
Aruna.To Display in Different Languages:
Smartforms:
In the Smartform you create:
In General Attributes, in Translate, select the radiobutton 'Into Selected Languages' and specify the lang for which you want the translation to be available.
To translate:
Go to SE63.
In menu, Translation -> ABAP Objects -> Other Long Texts.
In the Object Type Selection window that appears, expand FS ( Forms and Styles) and choose SSF (SAP SmartForms)
Specify your form name in Object Name and select the source and target lang and click on Edit button.
In the editor screen specify translated text in the lower half.
After you are done, click on Save Active button.
To view your form in the translated language, specify that language when you login.
SAPscripts:
Goto SE76.
Specify the script name, source and target language. Click on Create/Change button.
Specify all the translations. Click on release.
It will prompt you to translate window contents.
Double click on the window and translate the contents. When you are done, the Translation Status will become COMPLETED. Click on Release again.
(You can edit and check too)
Now when you preview by choosing the desired language, the translated script is displayed.
Hope this helps

Broadcast reports in different languages
Hi
We want to broadcast reports to several users in different languages; english, danish, german etc.
What is the best approch to handle this ?
Kind regards
SteffenIn the broadcaster you can select the language in the first tabpage.
The query/workbook will be executed in that language.
Of course you'll have to translate the infoobject names etc to the desired languages. -

Starting a report in different positions using parameters
Hi buddies.
Here is the situation. When generating mailing labels sometimes we could end up with just printing one label in a page. So for the next one we have to get a fresh page(paper). Instead if we have parameter which says a label number and using that we should be able to select the position inside a page and print there instead of the default starting position. But there is no such system property through which we can change the default position in a page. Can anybody throw some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance,
VaradhaRajan.Hi Guys
I have found out the solution by myself.
I inserted dummy records (empty) according to the number entered number of records will be inserted. So the position is determined with the number of empty records preceeding it.

App Engine XMLP Report with PeopleTools 8.5
Hi All,
I have an issue with creating an XMLP report in App Engine using PeopleTools 8.5 / PSFT HCM 9.1. As Rowsets, XMLDoc objects are now depreciated as a datasource, I am using XML File as the datasource type.
In my code, I create an XMLDoc object populate an XML file I put on the app server to be used as the datasource. I have taken this XML file output and loaded it into the template builder within Word without any problem, so by that I trust that the XML is well-formed. I have also created the appropriate datasource, report definition for the report within the PIA.
My problem comes up when I try to run the report through System Process Requests. I run it as an XML Publisher process type and it gives me the following output. The error makes it appear like my XML is not formed correctly, but if that was the case, would it load into the template builder? If anyone can provide any insight into this problem, would be greatly appreciated. Below is snippets.
XML output file I use for the datasource:

JaredJared,
I'm facing EXACTLY the same issue as you have posted above.
The issue is at the statement (in PeopleCode) : &ReportDef.ProcessReport(&sTemplateId, %Language_User, %Date, &sOutputFormat);
And the trace is exactly the same as you have posted above. Were you able to resolve this issue?
Any help would be appreciated!

Does LiceCycle Designer support different languages
We would like to roll out a US based form to other non english speaking countries.
Is it possible to design a form in different languages ? if so, where can I find more information on it ?
Thanks
AdityaAditya,
Yes it is possible to design a form in different language using LiveCycle Designer ES. The product is localized for many languages. You can also build forms that support many languages locales.
Go to LiveDocs and check the index for language locales.

Material description - different language
Dear Experts,
We have material with both English and Spanish descriptions. When I create purchase order in English log on or Russian log on, system is picking the description based on the vendor language. It sounds like logical that purchase order is recieved by vendor and hence its picking the vendor language.
But is there any way that material description should refer the log on language and not the vendor language.
Regards,
R.SHi,
I am trying to understand the description for material.
But in the same context, I am facing problem with plant description which is maintained in two different languages using international version. But system is picking only one langauge in both English and Spanish.
Please help.

To generate an XLIFF file from an RTF template
Open your template in Microsoft Word with the Template Builder for Word installed.
From the Template Builder menu, select Tools > Translations > Extract Text.
BI Publisher extracts the translatable strings from the template and exports them to an XLIFF (.xlf) file.
Save the file to the desired location.

One more clarification if i am going for 'create lang-template per lang' then do i need to have MLS configured in my EBS.
>
not sure about your point
what do you mean "configured" ?
mls is the ability to run you application on different language like italian, russian ....
so if you want check how many lang do you have then
select nls_language from fnd_languages where installed_flag in ('B','I');for my test instance i have only "AMERICAN"
but i can run my report with 'lang-template per lang' in different lang
so when you run your concurrent then click "options" and indicate "template language"
if you have
template name: XXTMP_ru.rtf lang: Russian
template name: XXTMP_en.rtf lang: English
then you can choose for "template language" - Russian and English -
Multi Language Solution (not by use of "Translate Application")
Hi All,
I try to implement a "multi language" functionality into my APEX Application but want to avoid the "Translate Application" method.
As I'm not very keen in JavaScript and PL/SQL Coding, I need your help.
What I want to do:
I have a table tbl_lang (var varchar2(20), lang_en varchar2(50), lang_de varchar2(50), lang_fr varchar2(50)).
It contains the name of a variable "var" that shall be filled with the Item Titles in the preselected language (de, fr or en).
The language can be chosen from a select list an dependent of the chosen language I do a "select var, lang_*en* from ... " or a "select var, lang_*de* from ... " and I fill my variable with the dependent language.
Each Item on my Page has the variable set instead of a written Title.
The Title of the Item Surname is for example &P2_LANG_SURENAME. and has the Value is "Surename" or "Vorname" or "Prénom".
The Problem ist:
I don't want to define a hidden Item for each Variable.
Is it possible to read the translations from the tbe_lang and fill a bunch of variables or an array that I can use within the Apllication without binding it to a hidden Item?
Best regards
ThomasHello Thomas,
>> That menas if I want to change the original application I have to redeploy the language after each change!?
I’m not sure what you mean by redeploy. The principle of the APEX translation mechanism is that you have your primary language application, which contains all your application logic. For each extra language, the APEX engine creates a language mapping application (a shadow copy as you call it) which contains a copy of your application logic and all the relevant translations to the underlying language. The translation mechanism includes a seed process which synchronize all the changes made to your primary language application (which is the only application you are working on) and also generate a XLIFF file that contains all the translatable components of your application. When you are done translating the XLIFF file, you can use the APEX translation mechanism to publish the new version and translation.
Moreover, the APEX translation mechanism also allows you to translate all the APEX engine internal messages, which you can’t do by yourself.
If by deployment you mean installing the multi-lingual application in a new APEX instance, working with the APEX translation mechanism means that you’ll need to install 3 (in your case) separate applications. The primary language application (which can also include all the supporting object) and simple import of all the other translated applications.
From my own experience I can assure you that working with the APEX translation mechanism is much much more simpler, easier and efficient than the road you want to take, not to mention the far more simple (and central) maintenance options. Your way – specific PL/SQL code for each language – can be a maintenance nightmare.
Also, bear in mind (and I believe this was your original question) that you’ll need to maintain a hidden item for every page component with a label, e.g. page items, buttons, tabs, report headers, etc. You’ll probably need to use some dynamic SQL functions otherwise you’ll have to deal with each component separately. In other words, you’re not only want to reinvent the wheel (as all of it has already been done by the development team) you are not dealing with very small and basic wheel, but something far more complicated.
From your response to my questions, I understand that you never experience the use of the APEX translation mechanism. I think you should try it. You can use apex.oracle.com for that. Develop a simple application that includes all the component types you going to use (Forms, Reports, Tabular Forms, IR etc.) and see how you can handle it all. Only then, you should decide what road to take.
As I said in my first post, what you are asking is probably doable. The question is whether you need to do it.
Regards,
Arie.
