XMMS freezes the wholw system

Question

xmms plays fine but when i  select the opengl visualization plugin then it freezes the whole system.  NO i can't even do the "C-M-F2/3/4" everything just freezes to hell and the only option is the "Restart button" of cabinet.
though i am using bmp now but i want to know why it happened. earlier i had similar system-freezes when i tried to access any floppy on Voodo.
Voodo i686       ->   floppy access = system Freeze
Duke x86_64    ->   xmms opengl visulazation-plugin  = system-freeze
only one solution = Restart button of Cabinet  (this way it feels WindowsXP :-(
any ideas ?

i dont know for what other applications use OpenGL. "mplayer" is playing excellently.

using VIA K8M800 chipset on ASUS K8V-MX motherboard. VIA driver is in play and i use it on other distros without any trouble.
