For those who don't: UPGRADE as soon als possible.
The new configuration file (xmonad.hs) is a real X-mas present, since there is no need to recompile anymore.

  • Xmonad - Can't start any terminal emulator (xterm,urxvt,etc)

    Hi,
    I've recently installed Arch Linux in Virtualbox-OSE and also installed xmonad. It took me a while to get it running. It is all working fine and I can start all kinds of applications with MOD+Shift+P, but the only thing I can't do is start a terminal emulator such as xterm or urxvt. Neither with MOD+Shift+P and MOD+Shift+Return. When I do this I see a window flashing and I think it is the program I am trying to start but it is closing right after the startup.
    Does anybody recognize this problem or know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Webfp

    BTW it was a real hassle to find the content of those files when you do not have a terminal emulator to use.

    You may want to keep an eye on this.
    relax the package upstream was just released
    What about http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 23444.html ?
    Looking at http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=Haskell I see packages flagged out of date for quite some time: a month, two, more.
    I'm not using haskell so I might indeed be misinterpreting things.
    I checked out those flagged ones - seems orphaned or unknown packager
    I myself don't use haskell so I wouldn't know if those packages have been deprecated - would be wise to have it addressed

  • Have Installed Arch Linux and Xmonad on 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina

    I just recieved the latest stunning MacBook Pro Retina 15" (ME665) released in Feb 2013, couldn't wait to install the Arch Linux 2013.02.01 on it, dual boot with Mac OSX.
    I'm impressed by the performance of this device after working with the combo of Arch Linux and Xmonad for several days, everything works out of the box, including touchpad, audio, video, wireless network, bluetooth, etc. Even the apperance of most apps are compatible with the high resolution of Retina display.
    Another important thing is the battery life, 5 hours! Program and compile, listen music, download AOSP through Wi-Fi, watch YouTube videos with Flash hardware accelaration on.
    For the installtion details, see my long blog post at http://vec.io/posts/use-arch-linux-and- … na-display

    Can you tell me what your /sys/class/backlight/gmux_backlight/brightness and max_brightness values are? This has not worked out of the box for me.

  • Problem logging out from xmonad

    Dear Everyone:
    I updated my system on monday 3/11, and since then have had the following strange behavior:  When I go to log out of my X session (by pressing super-shift-q, which sends the logout message through xmonad), my xdm login screen fails to appear as it should.  Instead, everything just seems to hang.  I have a blank screen, and hitting ctrl-alt-F2 (F3 or F4, etc. etc.) does not open a new terminal.
    I was too busy to deal with this last week, and so updated again today, hoping the problem would be fixed.  But the problem continues.
    I realize this is a vague post.  Could someone give me some guidance as to how I might go about diagnosing the problem.   (I thought of dmesg -- but of course I can't run it right after I've logged out when the problem seems to occur.)
    Thanks!
    -Stu

    Thanks for the response .nz.
    first of all, I've not been keeping good enough track of when this problem started relative to my updates to know where to look in my pacman logs.  However, I can be pretty detailed about everything else:
    Here is the current status of my system:
    1) I've uninstalled xdm entirely.
    2) I set the default target to multi-user (i.e. ran sudo systemctl enable multi-user.target)
    here is my .xinitrc:
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    setxkbmap -option ctrl:swapcaps
    xrdb -merge .Xresources
    xsetroot -solid black
    exec xmonad
    and here is my xmonad.hs:
    import XMonad
    import XMonad.Hooks.ManageDocks -- imports stuff to keep bars/trays visible
    import XMonad.Util.Run(spawnPipe) -- imports spawnPipe through which we start xmobar
    import XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog
    import System.IO
    main = do
    spawn "trayer --edge top --align right --SetDockType true --SetPartialStrut true --expand true --width 10 --height 12"
    spawn "dropboxd start"
    spawn "xmobar"
    xmonad $ defaultConfig
    { manageHook = manageDocks <+> myManageHook <+> manageHook defaultConfig
    , layoutHook = avoidStruts $ layoutHook defaultConfig
    , logHook = dynamicLogString defaultPP{ppCurrent = xmobarColor "blue" "gray", ppSep = "|", ppOrder = \(ws:_:t:_) -> [ws,t]} >>= xmonadPropLog
    , borderWidth = 5
    , terminal = "urxvt"
    , normalBorderColor = "#3399cc"
    , focusedBorderColor = "#33ff00"
    , modMask = mod4Mask
    , workspaces = ["1:shell","2:emacs","3:web","4:pdf","5:audio","6:draw","7","8"]
    myManageHook = composeAll
    [ className =? "Firefox" --> doShift "3:web"
    , className =? "URxvt" --> doShift "1:shell"
    , className =? "Emacs" --> doShift "2:emacs"
    , className =? "Audacious" --> doShift "5:audio"
    , className =? "Evince" --> doShift "4:pdf"
    , className =? "Inkscape" --> doShift "6:draw"
    Now, here is what I have done leading up to my current problem:
    1) started up, which resulted in me reaching the multiuser target, and thus a login prompt in a terminal
    2) logged in
    3) ran 'sudo echo "" > /var/log/Xorg.0.log' to make sure that everything that was going into the log file in the subsequent steps was from the coming session of X
    3) ran xinit.  This resulting in a fully working X session with xmonad acting exactly as I want it to
    4) hit super-shift-q (which is the key that is supposed to kill xmonad and the X server, and how I used to log out of my system when I was using xdm)
    The problem is what happens at that point:  The screen goes black, then I see a message on my screen that says "entering powersave mode".  At that point, the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive -- no pressing of keys seems to wake my machine up.  Ideally, I'd like this not to happen, and instead return to a login prompt after super-shift-q.
    my video card is AMD ATI RV530GL
    my video driver is xf86-video-ati
    Here is the Xorg.0.log resulting after I rebooted my machine back to the multi-user target:

  • Could not Set Xmonad to Work Starts and Stops With a Black Screen

    Folks I've installed xmonad here. So I edited 2 files:
    cat .xinitrc
    #exec startkde
    #exec ck-launch-session gnome-session
    # set the cursor
    xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr
    # set German keyboard layout
    setxkbmap -layout br
    exec ck-launch-session xmonad
    exec xmonad
    and
    cat .xmonad/xmonad.hs
    import XMonad
    main = do
    xmonad $ defaultConfig
    { terminal = myTerminal
    , modMask = myModMask
    , borderWidth = myBorderWidth
    -- yes, these are functions; just very simple ones
    -- -- that accept no input and return static values
    myTerminal = "urxvt"
    myModMask = mod4Mask -- Win key or Super_L
    myBorderWidth = 3
    Thou when I start xmonad all I get is a black screen. What am I missing?

  • Xmonad and dbus

    So I can start Xmonad with dbus but then the keyboard doesn't work (mouse works fine however), and xmobar doesn't show up. If I start it without dbus started, everything works fine. I can then start dbus and things continue to work fine. Any ideas on getting xmonad to start with dbus started?

    mreschke wrote:Explicitly starting dbus before Hal works, must have both
    No - hal has been deprecated. From Xorg 1.8 it is no longer necessary.

  • Awesome vs. Xmonad

    I've been thinking about trying a tiling window manager (I currently use Openbox) and am thinking especially about trying awesome and xmonad.
    I mostly use 5 main apps (ranked in how much I use them, 1 being the most):
    1. Urxvt
    2. Firefox
    3. Songbird
    4. Pidgin
    5. XChat
    I'm looking for it to have a lot of configurability as far as hotkeys go, I want to try and use the mouse as little as possible.
    Feel free to recommend any other WMs if you want.

    I like xmonad alot personally.
    Sounds like you run some of the same stuff as me constantly, not that it matters.  I am sitting here with Firefox, three urxvtc terminals and thunderbird open, with pidgin and deluge sitting in my tray.
    I really like in tiling window managers being able to have my browser in its nice little 65% pane, and my three 80 char wide terminal windows on the right-hand side of the screen showing as many lines as they can with no wasted space.  I have pidgin easily set to auto float above everything when I bring it up for something, and then put it away, and it doesn't change my nice stable layout of everything else.  I can hop to other workspaces to do other things and come back to my main WS with my nice happy setup.  I can even "swap screens" with what's on my television, open something, and then swap back.
    Plus Haskell is pretty fun to mess with really.  If you don't want to learn it, it is easy to base your config on others that are available (which is what I initially did), but I have been working through some Haskell tutorials just because it is a pretty neat language.
    Awesome can act weird when you misconfigure its file though.  So can everything else, really...  But I found that Awesome handled typo's and problems less gracefully than xmonad most of the time.  Xmonad would just chugging with your old config if you typo'd in your new config, unless you messed something up fierce.  Sometimes Awesome would check my file and say it was fine, and then just blow up when I tried to load it.  I am sure that would go away if I learned the syntax better, but I preferred xmonad's more graceful way of dealing with most of my learning mistakes.
    Awesome works though.  It's handy if you like clicking on your bar, and if you prefer configuring in lua (and fixing your config often on update, if you don't hold back the package).  It's notification daemon is a neat touch, and the customizable widgets are sort of fun to play with (after you choose which of the three libraries you want to use to manage updating them, and cross your fingers that it will still be there next release).  I didn't run it terribly long, since I missed xmonad when I tried it and decided to come back and stop trying lots of wm's.  Awesome has pretty sane defaults, I like that.  YMMV.

  • TidOS Public Alpha release (New Arch Linux based distro)

    I'm a regular lurker on the 4chan technology board (AKA /g/) and I've been following a project known as TidOS by the user "King Neckbeard". Think of it as a preconfigured/prericed Arch Linux installation for those that want a quick and dirty setup, something like Archbang with xmonad instead.

    aww.
    well you are all welcome to poke your nose in at #witchlinux on irc.freenode.net , it's still alive, n welcomes everyone else's input.
    there's the arch rowan witch release, a half made archiso, which is basically to be pretty much the same as where the debian rowan witch.iso left off, and then later once it's built to some reasonably satasfactory standard, a larger fuller witch called jamella is planned to feature loads of tiling window managers, xmonad of course included, as well as awesome, and others, as well as a raft of programmer tools n toys, and then later a refined sleak but complete witch after that.   so goes my plan anyways, but of course, anyone can run off n make their own witch, and are encouraged to do so.    so if u want a preconfigured arch with xmonad, once we get rowan out of the stalls, jamella will soon follow after.   (i been distracted with other interests this past month or so tho, so my contributions dropping off have slowed things, but it's still alive, i assure you.)
    or....
    to stop me going on about witch... tidos could be revived!  XD
    and i wish you all the best with that.

  • Using stalonetray with Xmonad

    My system tray of choice is stalonetray. I use it with openbox, like it, and would like to use it with Xmonad.
    I have managed to get Xmonad to ignore it and conky (it doesn't tile them, leaves them be). However, the first window I open covers them both since neither sets the partial strut hint.
    I realize that Xmonad supported setting up margins as in openbox but they seem to have made a rather foolish decision in removing it in favor of the ManageDocks hook. You see how that doesn't work for me (i'm quite sure there are others). So, how could stalonetray be made to work nicely with Xmonad ?
    Can devilspie maybe be used for setting the partial strut hint ?

    You could copy the module to your ~/.xmonad, and import it with
    import Gaps
    http://code.haskell.org/XMonadContrib/X … ut/Gaps.hs
    Potentially you might have to backport other modules (or just copy those over).
    In that case, it would be easier to upgrade to the current darcs version (which is in unsupported), or suffer untill 0.8 gets released (which won't be tomorow).

  • Using SQVI to generate report of open and released delivery schedule lines

    All,
    I'm using SQVI  to generate an excel spreadsheet for some buyers to show open released schedule lines because they are a 1 line item per scheduling agreement company.
    I used the logical database MEPOLDB instead of a table joint and pulled fields from EKKO(vendor, SA #,&purchasing group), EKPO(Material Number), EKEH(schedule line type), and EKET(delivery date, scheduled qty,previous qty).
    Does this sound like I'll get the results I want on paper as long as I use the right selection criteria, because the report I'm getting isn't quite what I expect? I am unable to identify which lines are authorized to ship vs. trade-off zone, planning, etc. in the report thus far.

    Hi Mark,
                 I have faced same requirement. I am not sure about transporting to TST and PROD. I done by this way.
    After generating SQVI program in DEV , I assigned that program  to a transaction and tested in DEV. Later i have regenarated SQVI in Production. then I assigned the generated Program to same transaction in DEV. And transported the Tcode assignment of program to Production..
    About authorization , if its not sensitive report, BASIS can restrict at transaction level.
    Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Error while releasing a request.

    Hi All,
    I'm facing an error while releasing a request.
    The request contains an ABAP programs along with two INCLUDDE programs as well as a TCode to run the same.
    It is running successfully in dev. server. But, while releasing ths request it shows me the following error :
    " Object REPT ZBAPI_SD_SERV_SALES_ORDER is inactive " ,
    where ZBAPI_SD_SERV_SALES_ORDER is the program name. When I checked out in ABAP editor it shows the program active.
    But, I'm unable to understand why its showing me an inactivation error.
    Guys, help me out in this.

    Hi,
    Check if the INCLUDE program are also ACTIVE. They must be in inactive state. Try activating them and release the request.
    Regards,

    There are no Export or Print events accessible for the viewer
    Since it sounds like you are creating the reportdocument object in your click event, the settings on this object become out of scope on successive postbacks executed by other events.
    to get around this without major changes, you can place your "report" object in session in this event and retrieve it from session on successive postbacks.  This should solve your problems around navigation, printing and exporting.  What you will need to do is check if the session object exists (usually in page_load or page_initialze) and if so, retrieve it from session and bind it to the viewer's reportsource.  If the session object does not exist, then do nothing (ie you have not clicked your button yet that retrieves the parameter values from session and loads the report).  Also, in your click event you can check if the report session object exists and if so, remove it so that it can be re-created with your new parameter values (ie i'm assuming the only time you want to set parameter values is in this event).

  • Partner Application in release 2

    Hello,
    I have to create a new PL/SQL partner application in the release 902.
    Where is the new sso sdk for the new Portal release?
    In the new pdk seems that it is the same of the 309 release (ssosdk307_032101 or ssosdk307)...
    And the pl/sql example code in the Oracle9 iAS Single Sign-On Application Developers Guide is not working...
    Can someone give me some feedback?
    Thank you and regards,
    Lorenzo.

    Lorenzo,
    Did you get any feedback on this posting? I'm also working with Release 2 (9.0.2) and is just about to start implementing the Java SSO SDK. The latest release of SSO SDK I've found is 307. According to the documentation this version supports SSO server 3.0.6 to 3.0.8, thus not Release 2. Please reply if you have any news regarding SSO SDK for Release 2.
    Best Regards,
    Rikard

  • Issues fixed in FM 7.1 release

    Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 for English, French and German was released on January 10, 2004. The following is a list of issues fixed in this release.
    250374
    FDK: FA_Note_PreSetAttrValue notification not sent for new elements. If a client subscribes to FA_Note_PreSetAttrValue events, it will get a notification when one changes an attribute by double clicking it in the Structure view. However, on creation of a new element through the element catalog, if an attribute is set, no notification is sent.
    This issue has been resolved.
    277554
    FDK: F_ApiUnStraddleCells() does not work as expected.
    When unstraddling cells through the API, all the cells except the leading cell have no paragraph end marks (they are completely empty). Clicking into such cells takes the text cursor to the location of the table anchor. Inserting a character into the paragraph with the table anchor seems to correct the table.
    This issue has been resolved.
    310049
    FDK: F_ApiImport shows a dialog upon import of SGML entities.
    When importing an SGML fragment by reference using F_ApiImport, FrameMaker displays a dialog asking whether the text inset should be updated automatic or manually. This setting should be controlled from import-parameters.
    Currently there is no way of creating a client that imports a large number of SGML text-insets without having a user sitting by the keyboard and clicking OK for each imported entity.
    This issue has been resolved.
    314764
    FDK: F_ApiDelete does not work properly on elements inside a TextInset. When you try to delete an element that is part of a TextInset, the whole TextInset is removed.
    The work around for this is to unlock the text before calling F_ApiDelete and to lock the text after this call. The calls to unlock and lock the text are given below:
    To unlock - F_ApiSetInt(docId, insetId, FP_TiLocked, False);
    To lock - F_ApiSetInt(docId, insetId, FP_TiLocked, True);
    387821
    Microsoft Intellimouse Scroll wheel locks up FrameMaker when it's pressed or scrolled.
    This issue has been resolved.
    408675
    Rotated PDF files do not appear on 24-bit or 32-bit displays.
    This issue has been resolved.
    463533
    Non-unique ID tags cause inconsistent hypertext links due to multiple entries in the HTML export. If there are conflicting IDs in different documents of a book, non-unique ID tags are generated which cause this behavior.
    This issue has been resolved.
    507486
    If you edit the MAKER.INI file by adding the line SplashScreen=Off, in the [Preferences] section, then the Help->About command crashes FrameMaker with Internal Error: 7004, 6048898, 7639747, 0
    This issue has been resolved.
    529757
    (don't include) Marker element gets included and merged in PDF bookmarks with previous heading. In FrameMaker 6.0, the document prints to PDF as expected--the bookmarks in Acrobat PDF contain the Section2/Heading as expected, such as:
    Spark Plug Threads
    and Lamp Base and Electrical Fixture Threads
    In FrameMaker 7.0, the document prints to PDF with the Section2/Heading merged with the Run.head marker element, even though Run.head is in the ''Don't include'' list of elements in the PDF Setup dialog box.
    This issue has been resolved.
    534856
    The value of DPDFOpenBookmarkLevel is ignored when read in a MIF file.
    This issue has been resolved.
    534865
    The values Default, All, and None of the ''Bookmarks expanded through level'' field (in Format > Document >PDF setup) are not retained when a FrameMaker document is saved and opened again.
    This issue has been resolved.
    535630
    Windows Metafile (wmf) graphic (created from Microsoft VISIO 2002) causes "an error occurred while printing" but partially prints.
    This issue has been resolved.
    537955
    ISOdraw CGM graphics and tables on the same page cause CGM stroke lines to be printed in White.
    This issue has been resolved.
    540408
    Inconsistent dialog behavior between FrameMaker 6.0 and FrameMaker 7.0 when opening filename.sgm. Unlike FrameMaker 6.0, FrameMaker 7.0 displays the Unknown Filetype dialog.

    FP_InsetFile has a value of "BadFileName" when SGML importing misses a graphic data file. If you import an SGML file that would read external graphic files and these data files are missing, then skipping or ignoring them results in "BadFileName" pathname for each object property. This makes FDK API Client not get FP_InsetFile property value for the FO_Inset object.

    FrameMaker works very slowly or returns an internal error. When processing a document that includes many EPS image files, FrameMaker creates many FRMxxxx.tmp files in the C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\Local Settings\temp\ folder. The xxxx is a hexadecimal number. Even after quitting FrameMaker, the FRMxxxx.tmp files are NOT deleted, and the same document creates different FRMxxxx.tmp files after being opened again. The template files pile up in the hard disk for the Account/user, until the xxxx reaches ffff, the maximum number for the 4 digits of a hexadecimal number. At or near this time, FrameMaker works very slowly or stops with internal error:7004,6643018,6765315,6712018.

    Similaryly read for SP06 fixes at - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm71/helpdata/en/be/e0048b426b4c20957078b61ec71e46/content.htm
    These links gives you an idea of what all changes are going to come into your new system. So unless you upgrade to SP07 i.e. the latest version and test it in DEV/Sandbox environment you should not plan to move ahead in Production. This is always recommended but there is very less chance that the already working solution will not work as expected after the upgrade.
