XMP data find in CS not in CS2

Our product uses the XMP SDK version 2.9.  While I would like to upgrade to a more recent version, it is not completely practical for the shipping code.<br /><br />We have encountered a file with XMP data we wrote using this SDK which is then inserted into a jpg file.  The resulting XMP data is completely read by Photoshop CS and by our application MediaBin, but when the same file is read into Photoshop CS2 only a subset of the data (specifcally the URL and the custom tags) appear and the description, for example, does not.<br /><br />Are there known incompatibilities between the older SDK and Photoshop CS2?<br /><br />I append the data (with customer data excised) below.<br /><br />Thanks for any feedback,<br /><br />Lyman Hurd<br />Interwoven, Inc.<br /><br /><?xpacket begin='&#65279;' id='W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d'?><br /><x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="XMP toolkit 2.9-9, framework 1.6"><br />    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"<br />        xmlns:iX="http://ns.adobe.com/iX/1.0/"><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:xap="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/"<br />            xap:MetadataDate="2006-08-21T19:14:05Z"/><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:xapRights="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/"<br />            xapRights:Marked="True" xapRights:WebStatement="http://www.xxxxximages.com"/><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:mbn="http://ns.interwoven.com/mediabin/1.0/"><br />            <mbn:tag>#MB%:{88E1EC23-B253-4C79-8944-772852879E8F}ILMEDIABIN:%MB#</mbn:tag><br />        </rdf:Description><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"><br />            <dc:rights><br />                <rdf:Alt><br />                    <rdf:li>Copyright © XXXXX. XMP is a powerful metadata format and I believe that it can be written directly to any mov or mp4 format media but not other formats such as mts. I have also experimented with using Prelude, Bridge, and Premiere to try and tag my footage. The conclusion I came to was that it just isnt worth the effort yet. None of them really communicate with each other very well and the interface for searching metadata (even after painfully inputting it using their metadata panels) is slow and cumbersome. Adobe did great by creating xmp, and lots of highend propriety software solutions for broadcast seem to be using it with custom software but there is nothing at the low end for normal users. Bridge doesn't seem to have been touched in several years. Even Lightroom, which would appear to be Adobe's most natural video tagger/organiser for the prosumer, doesn't create searchable usable tag data for use with Premiere. Right now I would say a good folder structure, using Finder's tag system (if you are on a mac), and spreasdsheets are the best way to work on smaller projects. Just my $2.

    I have tried reseting to factory settings by removing battery and holding down the power switch for more than 5 sec but this does nothing.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I think with so much unwanted data on the desktop and other places the whole os will crash very soon.
    Thanks, Rick

    The hard drive may be dying anyway, or the directory damaged because it is so full.  You should never let the hard drive get over 85% full.
    A -36 error is a read/write error.
    All you did with the power is reset the SMC.  Does nothing to reset everything to factory settings.
    Do you have your original 10.4 installer discs for the MacBook?
    Is your data backed up?

    These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here, so I've asked the hosts to remove your email address, postal addresses and phone numbers from your post.
    I'm not entirely sure what you are saying, but if those apps are crashing then have you tried toggling them 'off' and 'on' via Settings > iCloud ? And if that doesn't fix it then try closing them via the iPad's taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    You could also try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    If it's a different problem ... ?

  • XMP data not showing up in the custom file info panels when upgraded to CC

    For several versions of Photoshop, I have been able to use a modified custom file info panel to input, update, and track psd files. With each version of photoshop there are always some changes in the way the object data is handled. The lastest challenge is:
    1. XMP data not showing up in the custom file info panels when upgraded CC from CS6.
    2. Raw data is not visible in CC in the File info panel.
    3. This occurs in new documents where we create the xmp wrapper while the file template is built.
    4. When metadata is manually entered into the file, the data is not added to the XMP wrapper when it is recreated on the save.
    5. When a file that was created in CS6 is opened that contains the Metadata in the file info template. It is visible. the Raw data is also visible. Once the XMP wrapper is recreated - write and then close. The data is no longer available. the Raw data will not pull up in the file info panel.
    Any feedback or a direction will be appreciated.

    I have a script that the user runs to input xmp data into a Customized version of the generic file info panel. it is data that is gathered from the user when the psd file is created. once the file is open in photoshop. the information is visible in the File info panel , the raw data, and as a schema addition in the advanced tab.
    in CC the nodes and the children of the XMP packet have changed positions. so that the XML -this.XMP.child(0).appendChild(this.createNode())
    is no longer the node that can be appended.
    Where XML.child(0).elements().length(); would enable the xmlns to be added in CS6
    <rdf:Description xmlns:phsa="' + this.namespace + '" xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" rdf:about="" />'
    it is visible in CC as namespace in a different arrangement. XML.child(0).child(0).namespaceDeclarations().toString()) and the children are  XML.child(0).child(0).elements().length().toString()); There are now 7 child nodes where before there were 1.
    with all shifted, the initialize of the values and the delete XMP packet wrapper and create new or the amend to the XMP packet wrapper is undefined.

  • AE not reading all the XMP data from DNG files

    I'm working on a very large time-lapse for a construction company - I have a sunset that is broken between two folders and rendering the folders seperately makes Quicktime unhappy during playback and I get an ugly jump in sunset exposure.
    So I combined the two folders in Lightroom (LR) from my RAW files (NEF) and exported the entire sequence as DNG files with simpler numbering. The sequence is about 1560 files and constitutes about 22 GB of data. I created a new LR library from the DNG sequence to make sure it all looked good and it does.
    I imported the same DNG sequence into AE, checked a few frames in the preview and sent it out to render. Two thirds of the way through the QT movie, exported in H.264 at 30 fps, I start seeing problems. Huge sections look like the XMP data has not been read, then there's a good section and then bad again. I matched the movie time to preview in AE and indeed saw the same problems in the AE preview. So the problem begain in AE's reading the files from the folder, not in rendering.
    I went back to LR for file comparison. There was no problem in LR. All the DNGs look great.
    I'm on a MacBookPro Retina with 2.8 GHz Intel processor, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Ram and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics
    I have the standard 69GB cache on an external drive and have 11GB RAM available for AE.
    Installed CPUs =8
    CPUs reserved for other apps = 2
    RAM allocation per background CPU = 1GB
    Actual CPUs that will be used = 6
    I have the latest AE from the Adobe Cloud, although I haven't done the most recent update yet.
    My thought was to break the folder up into smaller segments for rendering, but that's not the problem. I see the XMP hasn't been consistantly read in preview. To me it doesn't make sense that the folder is too large for preview because it's not even rendering it there, just reading the files...?
    Any insight, solutions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    I am basically trying to export xmp files from a set of low resolution dng files so that I can access my Lightroom edits in the RAW files. I have separated the RAW and dng files in different folders
    Hi Andy,
    I dunno how best to get extracted xmp files into the raw folders, but if you are comfortable with exiftool, you can use it to extract xmp sidecars from DNG files.
    If you want a turn-key solution which does not required you to futz with exiftool, then consider a free plugin I wrote:
    robcole.com - xEmP
    It will allow you to create xmp sidecars with all your DNG adjustments and metadata (which can then be applied to the non-dng raw files).
    However, if you won't need the DNGs in your catalog afterward, then the easiest way is to convert them back to proprietary raw format using this plugin (also free, and I wrote it):
    robcole.com - UnDNG
    Conceptually, you can think of it as converting the DNGs to proprietary raw format, but note: it doesn't convert anything, it just allows existing raw files that are NOT in the catalog, to replace the DNGs that are in the catalog. All adjustments and metadata and everything else will be preserved (just like when you convert a proprietary raw to DNG format).

    I installed MS SQL Server 2014 Express and I'm using VS 2013 Professional.  I create a database in SQL Mgt Studio then I open up VS and using VB I create a form and add a data grid.  When I test connection it is fine but when I click ok it gives
    me the above message.  Sql Server is listening to port 1433 with IPALL disabled.  I installed management tools and another program.  So I uninstalled and then installed SQLExpressADV 2014 reset everything as mentioned and I get the same results.
    I cannot develop any applications and am getting frustrated enough to maybe start looking around for a better DB solution that works.  I've noticed a lot of people getting this same error and I think Microsoft should implement a fix for this.  Does
    anyone have some ideas on how to fix this?  Since it will not list the files it cannot find I do not know what is broken.

    Hello,
    Please perform the steps described in the following article.

    But download the SQL Server 2014 version of the software mentioned in the article.

  • Lion: Finder: Column View: Date Last Opened is not show correctly

    Hi Folks,
    I have upgrade my macs from 10.6.8 to 10.7.
    I am using the column view in the finder and I noticed that the
    Date Last Opened is not show correctly in the preview column.
    If I use the the list view and show the column Date Last Opened
    all dates are correct. Using the column view, the Date Last Opened
    allways matches the Date Last Modified.
    The attached screenshot shows an example with the same
    file at in both views mentiond above.
    I have noticed this problem with internal and external drives
    using the filesystem Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Is there way known to fix this behavior. In Snow Leopard it worked fine.
    Thank you for your support.

    Same here, however I found a strange work around.
    Go to your applications folder, for instance. Click the gear icon, go to Arrange By, then select Date Last Opened. It will correctly show the last opened time and arrange them accordingly. Switch back to arrange by name and the last opened date reverts back.
    It's not a bug, it's a feature!

  • FileInfo Custom Panel doesn't show xmp data: flex 3.6, FileInfo SDK 5.1

    Just getting into XMP. Decided to make custom File Info panel for our custom xmp namespace data that will be applying to all our images in our archive.
    Since still on Adobe CS 5.5, got the FileInfo 5.1 SDK. Got the Flex 3.6a package. I'm on Mac OS X 10.7.5, java version "1.6.0_37".
    Compiled the "TestPanel" that comes with the SDK. That works. It has a fi:XMPTextInput item that shows the xmpPath="dc:title" dublincore xmp data, i can change it and save it and when i come back it is the changed data. When i look in the Raw fileinfo tab, it is there as i had modified it.
    Now when i add a fi:XMPLabel for xmpPath="xmp:CreatorTool" no data is shown in my custom FileInfo panel. And when i add in my own custom xmp namespace data "mydata" that does not show either. The labels and textboxes are there for entering, but it appears that it is not parsing correctly to find the data to populate what is in the file already. I can type something in but it doesn't save it to the file. My custom xmp data namespace "mydata" data is showing in the Raw FileInfo panel so i know it is there, as i put it there with exiftool.
    I have the required namespace lines in the mxml file for the panel:
    <fi:XMPNamespaces>
    <fi:XMPNamespace prefix="mydata" value="http://example.com/xmp/mydata/"/>
    <fi:XMPNamespace prefix="dc" value="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>
    <fi:XMPNamespace prefix="xmp" value="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/" />
    </fi:XMPNamespaces>
    The mxml file compiles and the panels load and display so it doesn't seem like it is the source files. It seems like a runtime issue. Since it does show the one  dublincore xmp data it does seem like the panel is working, except for the "xmp" namespace and  my "mydata" namespace. That's got to be a clue but being so new to this it is not giving me any directions to go in.
    Any and all ideas are most appreciated.
    Peace,
    Dan

    For some reason SpeedGrade updated through the Application manager. I tried downloading the updates from adobe's website but it won't install. Prelude's update fails before it can even get started whereas the extension manager does install but it doesn't seem to be updating.
    I've done as much investigation as I can think of and I'd rather not create a new user just to check that out but if I have to I will. How exactly do I create a new user on a mac?

  • Saving metadata from Lightroom erases custom XMP data in DNG...

    Hello,
       There seems to be an issue with the way Lightroom applies changes in from the LR catalog to the assets metadata.  The setup is LR 2.5 and there is an orginal set of images that have custom XMP data applied to them via Bridge.  There is one LR catalog that points to these images and the LR catalog ratings and labels match those that are in these images.  A second LR catalog copy (not export) was made where additional changes were made only to ratings and labels.  This catalog also points to the original assets.  When using the Save Metadata to files function in LR for this catalog (and selecting ALL files), LR erases all the original custom XMP data contained in the DNG images and writes only the ratings and label information.
        It doesn't seem that LR should be overwriting the entire XMP packet when only ratings and labels have changed and are saved back to the assets.  Is that the way this is designed or is this a malfunction?
    Thanks for any help on this!
    David

    I may have answered my own question as we have run into this issue before.  Lightroom is really not designed for any type of simultaneous workflow on the same files.  Most content management applications utilize the check-in/check-out mechanism to avoid having to perform any type of merging or implement a logical business rule to determine which content updates "win"  It is no different with Bridge and LR.  You work in one application at a time doing specific things to the same files and then read from each other when those actions are complete.  Working in this manner you never run into the merge issue or lose data from either side.
    Our simple answer to this question is adjust our workflow timing for things to accommodate this behavior.  The one thing that I will say is that LR does really need to provide some type of catalog history functionality that can be queried.  I believe that LR does interact with the catalog database in this manner when you use the Save functionality from the context menu and have not imagery selected.  It scans the database looking for any changes and then only updates those files it finds changes for.  If we could only see this type of functionality added in a way that would show us history for changes to the catalog at large and not have to dig into individual assets to look for these changes that would be great.
    We are going to look at a way to query the LR database itself to see if there isn't some time stamp information and file ID/filename data that can't be accessed as it would be invaluable to be able to look across large catalogs (well over 1000 images) and find the files that had been most recently updated (in updated I mean only simple updates to rating and label) and then separate these out to work with in their own group (collection).
    I could also look at this as yet another opportunity to refine a workflow that doesn't create changes to identical data each time changes are incurred.  I will look at that option much more closely as it is really the only thing we can easily control.
    Cheers!

  • Trying to get Xinet XMP data

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm trying to create a slug script for InDesign CS3 that retrieves custom Xinet metadata from a custom XMP panel.  I was able to complete this task in Illustrator CS3 by using the following code to connect to the XMP data:
    // load the library:
    if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined) {
         ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject('lib:../../Frameworks/AdobeXMPScript');
    // get the custom client field:
    var docXmp = new XMPMeta(docRef.XMPString);
    var xmpClient = docXmp.getProperty('http://ns.xinet.com/ns/xinetschema#',"CLIENT");
    alert(xmpClient);
    I've noticed that the Frameworks file for InDesgin is AdobeXMP.framework and not AdobeXMPScript, and the XMPMeta object does not apparently exist in AdobeXMP.framework.
    Am I missing something here?  I find it very odd that Adobe would use different libraries across their applications for something that's supposed to be a standard.  How can I retrieve the Xinet data?
    Thanks,
    -Dave

    I figured it out.  Here's the solution:
    var myClient = docRef.metadataPreferences.getProperty('http://ns.xinet.com/ns/xinetschema#', "CLIENT");
    alert(myClient);

  • XMP data - when is it written to folders

    I assume that XMP data is written, as needed to the LR data base.
    However, if I have selected to "Automatically write changes to XMP", when are those changes written? Are they written as changes are made or only when LR is closed....or at some other time.
    This is important if I plan to go to PS to work a file or batch process a number of files.
    EDIT: I just had a specific instance where I cropped an image in LR, and it has not shown up in either CS2 or CS3 ACR (latest levels on both, WIN/XP SP2)
    RE-EDIT: OK...OK....I missed the '!' with the message. Apparently it trier and had a problem. Can you add a auto-rewrite function....or some higher level notice of a XMP write problem which will point out the specific files having a problem....otherwise one would not know there was a problem (as I didn't) and/or have to go hunt for it.
    Thanks for a great product. I was not sure where it fit with the work you were doing with CS3, but so far I am impressed.
    John

    No, it's not necessary to put on an asynchronous callback to free the memory.
