XMP metadata applying to clips across network

Hi all,
We are using Adobe Premiere CC in a multi edit NAS environement where all projects and media are all stored on the NAS. Clients are connected via SMB to the share.
What I am trying to be able to do is have assisstant editors add markers and metadata to clips using prelude and have this metadata update for editors using premiere across the network. This works really well locally. You can add any metadata, markers, etc, and see these changes reflected almost immediately on the clip in premiere. But i just tried to open the same clip on another machine on the network and it did not recognise the metadata. Has anyone else had any expereince making this work over the network? Do i need to set the XMP to write next to the media file? or set the media chache of all edit stations to a shared folder on the NAS? If I can make this work it would make for a really efficient workflow!
Thanks in advance!
Chris Smith

Hard to believe there is not something better out there?
Oh, I am not saying that there is not, but just that I have used Bridge for my organizing, and have not looked too far beyond, so I do not know of what is available. ThumbsPlus (Cerious Software) is about to introduce TP-8, and it's been in heavy development for well over a year. It might have enhanced metadata support. Also, I am using an older version of Bridge, so do not know how CS4 Bridge has been improved. It might have the support that you're looking for.
More formats are relying more heavily on metadata, so I can see where this will likely be more heavily implemented in the near future.
Good luck, and please update your thread, should you find the ultimate organizer. Others will benefit.
Thanks,

  • XMP metadata and organizing clips?

    Hello,
    I use PPCS3 and PPCS4 depending if I use cineform .avi's or not.
    I have a bunch of video clips from my HV20 Canon and HMC-150 Pansonic cameras.
    Can I use XMP metadata to organize my library of video clips? Also can you use XMP metadata to add markings to the good parts of the clips and then label the good parts of the clip  which then can be found later via search?
    I am looking for some good software for PC users to organize video clips. Something like lightroom for video would be perfect.
    Any ideas? What are others doing to organize all their video clips?
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • Adding Metadata to MXF Clips?

    How do you do this?  I imported a bunch of clip brought over from Sony Clip Browser and I can't add any metadata.  What's up?  Surely you are able to add metadata to MXF flies, right?
    I can do it like normal in MOV files (Canon 7D) and regular EX1 MP4 clips, but not when converted to MXF.

    You can add clip metadata that is pertinent to a specific clip, within a given project, but opening that MXF in another project will not result showing up in that new project. Premiere doesn't have the ability to write file metadata to an MXF file from within the Premiere Pro interface; any metadata editing of that sort must be done externally in a third-party application. The benefit of that, however, is that no matter where the file is imported, the metadata is readable. Read About file, clip, and project XMP metadata and Using clip metadata and file metadata for more background on this.
    You should be able to add metadata in Clip Browser, but check that that actually imports into Premiere along with the clip before logging everything; in CS4, at least, that metadata didn't make the trip

  • Copy existing clip data to XMP Metadata

    Hi, after looking on the forums and reading the Adobe Premiere Pro Metadata manual, I discovered that when entering Metadata in the clip data field you need to have the little link box checked next to the clip data field in order to have that metadata follow that clip to whatever project you import it into in the future.  However, I discovered this after entering clip data for hundreds of clips and would like to know if there is a way to link the information I already entered into the clip data field to the XMP metadata so I don't have to do it all over again for every clip.  The manual only says that clicking the link does NOT copy over existing clip data, but does not say whether or not there is a way to do this.  Any suggestions?

    Because sourceFolder and targetFolder are Finder items --> folder "Submissions" of folder "Zoom" of folder "Brands" of disk "DCKGEN".
    You must first convert the path to make the coercion (the path and  the name), like this : ((sourceFolder as text) & eachFile)
    But this call the the Finder each time.
    It's best to convert the variables only once :
    set sourceFolder to sourceFolder as string
    set targetFolder to targetFolder as string
    -- now loop though the files
    repeat with eachFile in newFiles
    But it may have other consequences if these variables are used later in the script
    So I recommend to use other variables, like this :
    set sFolder1 to sourceFolder as string -- convert Finder item to text and put it in another variable
    set tFolder2 to targetFolder as string
    -- now loop though the files
    repeat with eachFile in newFiles
      --          convert the filenames to posix paths that the shell can handle
      set srcFile to quoted form of POSIX path of (sFolder1 & eachFile)
      set destFile to quoted form of POSIX path of (tFolder2 & eachFile)
      -- and cat the data, removing the files as you go
              do shell script "cat " & srcFile & " >> " & destFile & " && rm " & srcFile
    end repeat

  • Bridge - "The file cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"

    I am trying to use keywords to organize all my projects.  But on every file I try to apply a keyword too I get the message "The file cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur".  I'm on windows 7 64bit with Creative Cloud and all the latest updates.

    Not sure what kind of files you are trying to add keywords, but I am having the same problem with .MTS and m2ts files.  I am running Bridge 4.0.0.529 and Win 8.1.  I found a work around, which was to change the extension to .mpg in File Manager, then you can add keywords.  However, not sure of the implications of doing this when I import them into Premiere.  I noticed in File Manager that under file properties that the "Type of File" changes to reflect the file extension. Running some tests to try and find out.  I suppose one could change the extensions back to the original.  But if you have a lot of clips, that is a big hassle.  Unfortunately, Bridge "Batch Rename" doesn't allow one to change the extension.  Any help would be appreciated.  However, I am not very optimistic in that it appears the "Cloud" version of Bridge has the same issues.

  • XMP metadata from Premiere Pro

    I have installed on Mac OS X:
    Extension Builder 3 in Eclipse
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC
    Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CC
    Working on basic example extension project I want to exchange XMP metadata to/from Adobe Premiere using ExtendScript.
    I added line to load XMP library in .jsx file, but it doesn't work:
    ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject("lib:AdobeXMPScript");
    I also tried to extract AdobeXMPScript.framework file from Adobe Bridge installation package contents, and load it by ExternalObject, but again with no result. It seems environment doesn't know what ExternalObject is.
    Is it possible to work with XMP data in extension? If yes, what I need to add/install to make it work?

    The XMP data returned by projectItem.getXMPMetadata() contains all marker info for that project item. To confirm this, add some markers containing unique text strings to a clip in Prelude, import it into PPro, then getXMPMetadata() on it; you'll find your text strings in the returned XMP data.
    You will need to parse the XMP on your own (or using an XML parser of your choosing), to extract that project item's marker data.
    We have a feature request for "XMPScript support in PPro's ExtendScript engine"; I'll add your name to the list.
    Feel free to contact me directly regarding any PPro integration development;

  • Adobe xmp metadata searchable on osx 10.5 server?

    i'm not sure if this is the right category for this. we have 5 mac pro's that are connected to a NAS via Xserver running Mac OS X 10.5.x server. we've started using the xmp funtionality in adobe photoshop. on the 5 local clients, searching via spotlight, we can find files using the info typed in the xmp metadata portion of photoshop. however, when we store that same file on our NAS, searching the nas via the finder search box doesn't recognize the xmp metadata (i'm told we can't use spotlight because it only works on the local machine...even if that's not true, i tried it and it doesn't find the files). all of the local macs are on the same os version (the latest one) and spotlight indexing is enabled on the Xserve. is there a way for the xmp metadata to be searchable when searching the NAS from the local clients?
    thanks

    Just to let you all know... I came across this now, and will try it out tonight and confirm if it works or not

  • How to import XMP metadata in pdf

    Could you please explain me, how to import XMP metadata in pdf file through "Live Cycle ES"?

    Yes, with LiveCycle ES (almost) all services can be invoked from any of the available endpoints (watch folder, EJB, WebService, etc).
    In this case since the ImportXMP requires two input files (the PDF and the XMP) you will need to drop a directory containing both of your files into the watch folder (not the individual files). This is because several requests can be dropped into the watch folder at the same time and without the sub directories LiveCycle couldn't tell what XMP when with what PDF.
    A com.adobe.idp.Document - AKA: Document - object is one of the common object types used across all LiveCycle products. When you deal with PDFs and many other binary file objects they are stored a Document object. It is more important that you know this when using Workbench, web services or the Java API.
    You should have a look at the documentation at: http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/programLC/programmer/help/001553.html

  • Message: 'FILE CANNOT STORE XMP METADATA'

    I have encountered a problem that I cannot resolve by myself and cannot find any relevant information. I hope you can help: In some cases (this has only been happening with my last big job of about 1000 selected images which are divided in subfolders)  in most folders when I try to apply a new keyword in an entire group of photographs I get the message ".. the metadata of some of the selected items cannot be changed. Do you want to continue and apply the changes to some of the selected items only?.." whilst when i select individual files (photographs) I get the message  ".. the file xxxx.CR2 cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur..". This has been happening both before and after the batch rename processing. Also I noticed on my desktop that the RAW files that do not accept keywords are not initially accompanied by an XMP file. I guess that there is a problem with my 'settings' but I cannot located it or resolve it... Can you help please?

    ..a  couple of hours later..
    However, if I ReNAME the file which contains the photographs that 'refuse' to have new keywords added to them, IT APPEARS that everything is fixed. After a 'blink' on the screen which resembles with a refresh, I can add the keywords that I desire. Moving the contents of my initial subfolders in one NEW folder does not change the METADATA or the KEYWORD status and so far they are retained when my files are moved to the new folder.
    B U T... if I rename the file again (through the Bridge window) and give it its previous name, the problem persists....
    -Am I doing something wrong?...since  I am not following a different procedure.. why did problem occur out of the blue?
    -Will the problem occur again?
    -will the Raw files retain the details (keywords/metadata) that I have added from now on?.. or is it possible that I will loose them again at some point?
    -why does this happen?

  • Metadata applied in FCS viewable in FCP?

    We're trying to map metadata from a description field inside Final Cut Server - to the lognote field in Final Cut Pro. This way, editors can se a short description of clips in the browser inside Final Cut Pro.
    Has anybody successfully done this? We do see that the "REEL" info does appear inside the Final Cut Pro browser, but this information is assigned to the clips at import when the file is created, e.g. not in Final Cut Server.
    It seems to me that metadata applied to a clip inside Final Cut Server only is associated to the clips inside Final Cut Servers database, not actually printet inside the moviefiles.
    I've tried to search around for this, with no luck. If I missed a relevant thread you know about, please let me know.

    Correct. The metadata visible within an FCP project is contained in the project, not the clip files. The metadata in FCSvr is contained in a PostgreSQL database and not in the media files (except for the "Dynamic Metadata" which are called "Annotations" when viewed in QuickTime Plater.
    You've hit on a weakness of the Final Cut family, and hopefully one Apple is working on resolving for the next major version.

  • Lightroom Library Accessible across network?

    Is there a way to have the library and all edits, etc. available to multiple users on a network? I work with four other photographers and a couple of art directors who all have access to a single server loaded up with tetrabytes of images sorted by assignments in respective folders. We've been using ACR and Bridge to view, assign metadata, and edit, duplicating RAW files for multiple processing interpretations, etc. I'm interested in seeing if Lightroom will help with our workflow, but a centralized library is absolutely necessary to start. Thanks for any help.

    >As I understand it, the library itself won't be accessible on the network in v1.
    johnbeardy, "Lightroom Library Accessible across network?" #1, 31 Jan 2007 7:24 am
    That's what I heard as well. It's a shame as with the advent of cheap NAS storage, it is very common for photographers to have all their data on the network and only the applications on the computer.
    I don't have a need for multiple users of the same library, but I do need to keep the library on NAS storage. That should be a simple fix for Adobe to implement. It's also an important fix as there have been several instances of people on the labs forums finding that they could not install Lightroom as they had redirected their "My Documents" directory (on Windows) onto a network mount.
    Full multi-user support is more complex and probably does require a database transplant to something with a more advanced locking concept than SQLite.

  • After Effects - Warning: failed to write xmp metadata

    I have a couple of users who are saving a render job to a network share using After Effects. Towards the end of the render, they get a warning saying "failed to write xmp metadata" It does not ruin the render or anything. It just shows the warning. They have full access rights to the share. What is causing this error?

    They are successfully able to render to their local hard drive without any error and the error is only occuring with wmv output but not avi. Where exactly are the settings for XMP so that it can be configured properly?
    But since they can render to the local hard drive without any errors there must be something that AE doesnt like about rendering to a share. What could that be?

  • XMP metadata from Flashbuilder why not visible in Adobe Bridge?

    Hi there,
    I'm currently wondering around XMP metadata and swf files.
    A: Flash CS5: works
    When I use the XMP panel in Flash CS5 and export a swf, open Adobe Bridge CS5 and select the file, the XMP data are correctly displayed.
    B: Flash Builder(Flex 4.1): don't work
    When I use Flashbuilder and add my metadata to the compilation, then compile, open Adobe Bridge CS5 and select the file, nothing is included in metadata.
    Procedure based on the following (same problem if metadata are directly set through compiler arguments):
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=compilers_14.html
    ../src/config/ProductMetaData.xml
    <flex-config>
    <metadata>
        <title>My title</title>
        <description>My description</description>
        <publisher>The publisher</publisher>
        <creator>The creator</creator>
        <language>EN</language>
    </metadata>
    </flex-config>
    compiler argument
    -load-config+=config/ProductMetaData.xml
    As far as understood, on the background the following is added to the swf at compile time:
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1'>

            <dc:title>My title</dc:title>

                    <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'>My description</rdf:li>
                </rdf:Alt>
            </dc:description>
            <dc:publisher>The publisher</dc:publisher>
            <dc:creator>The creator</dc:creator>
            <dc:language>EN</dc:language>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    I've checked that the medata is correctly added to the swf file using this small software polarswf:
    http://download.cnet.com/Polar-SWF-MetaData/3000-6676_4-10738623.html
    I do not know if it is safe to use it in a produciton context at least in trial mode it allows to check the metadata included in your swf.
    I wonder if this metadata coonot be read by Adobe Bridge because they are at a "lower level" than those put by flash CS5 XMP panel?
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    This is not a blocking situation, but I'm curious to understand what happend.
    Cedric Madelaine (aka maddec)

    I was following this post for a LONG time, since I noticed the same problem.
    This week I was getting in it into myself again and I noticed you use load-config. I used these compiler options :
    contributor name
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    creator name
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    date text
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    But that resulted in this XML string where the dc namespace was missing a / on the end of the URI
    That caused the metadata which was added in flashbuilder was only visible in bridge in the rawXML panel, and not the specific fields
    changing the URI in http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/ did the trick ( did this in bridge by exporting the rawXML, changed the / , and imported it )
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1'>
            <dc:format>application/x-shockwave-flash</dc:format>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    Sadly there was no way I could add this / myself everytime.
    BUT then I discoverd this option :
    raw-metadata XML_string
    Defines the metadata for the resulting SWF file. The value of this option overrides any metadata.* compiler options (such as contributor,creator, date, and description).
    This is an advanced option.
    And you could give the exact RAW XML as you  described
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/'>
            <dc:format>application/x-shockwave-flash</dc:format>
            <dc:title>My title</dc:title>
            <dc:description>
                <rdf:Alt>
                    <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'>My description</rdf:li>
                </rdf:Alt>
            </dc:description>
            <dc:publisher>The publisher</dc:publisher>
            <dc:creator>The creator</dc:creator>
            <dc:language>EN</dc:language>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    to the compiler. This could also be done in Flash with JSFL.
    In the end I wrote an ANT script which injects the exact XMLstring of metadata to Flash and Flex projects by using the raw-metadata parameter in FLEX and JSFL for flash.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
    thanks for the answer.
    I know that I can retrieve the XMPUtilityMetadata object, but this object provides only access to a few information suche as creator, subject, producer, etc.
    However I would like to retrieve the whole XML String of the XMP Metadata.
    How is this possible?
    Thanks.
