XMP Metadata Linking Not Functioning, PPro CS6 v6.0.5

Hi,
In the past I've been successful adding and storing metadata to the 'Description' column in the project window in the past with the 'Link' symbol activated in the Metadata panel under 'ile'>Dublin Core>>Description. This would allow me to retain the description metadata when the media is imported into a different project.
However I am using this same procedure this week, but the data does not seem to be saving/adding to the XMP 'File' metadata.  See screen shot below.  I've experienced this problem within different proejcts and with the three main media types in our production house: XDCAM EX, P2 MXF and Ikegami MXF.
Any thoughts why this would work previously, but not now? Is it related to the latest version updates?
This is a PC, Windows 7 system.
Thanks!

My take is that this is not a linking problem, per se. Rather, it looks like the problem is that the File section shows that the file is not editable.
So I'd investigate what's making Premiere think it can't revise the XMP. Could be that the files are read-only, that you don't have permissions to edit content in the parent folder, or that another program has the files locked. At least those are the most likely causes I can think of...

  • "Writing XMP Metadata Did Not Complete Successfully" Issue

    Hi all,
I've been using Lightroom for a bit now. I'm on V2.5 now.  I just did a new system build and so reinstalled Win Vista 32.  My photos and XMP files are on a seperate external drive and I saved my catalog file (plus did a backup).  When I reinstall Lightroom and did the updates I then copied the old catalog 2 file to the right location.  All my pics were there with edits no problem.  I've done this several times now when I have had to reinstall the OS for various reasons. Never had an isuse
This time I went back to change some status data on a photo that I took before the reinstall.  When I went to update the metadata I get a message that says "Writing XMP Metadata Did Not Complete Successfully".  I looked in Bridge and the data did not update.  This happens for all my RAW photos that were taken before the reinstall.  I can make changes fine but cannot get the XMP to write.
Bridge will not make changes either. I tried changing the star rating and color label and it does nothing.
For files that I have imported after the reinstall it all works fine.
It is like the old XMPs are locked or the programs can't find them.  I can see them in the file manager so they are all there.
Any ideas on the problem and how to fix it?

I don't think they are locked.  I think Vista is just blocking Lightroom.  I went back this morning and deleted a few of the xmp's as you suggested and Lightroom worked fine and wrote the files.  Then I thought about the potential lock issue and tried opening Lightroom "As an administrator".   When I did that everything worked fine.  For some reason Vista won't let lightroom open the older files unless it sees it as the admin.  All works fine now.  Thanks!!

  • Resolving " Writing XMP Metadata did not complete successfully " Errors

On certain files, when I try to save the metadata, I get this error - Writing XMP Metadata did not complete successfully
Does anybody know why and how to resolve the issue?
    Thank you.

Check if your files are write protected! For RAW files, the xmp sidecar file must not be write protected. For JPG and other non-RAW files, the image file itself must not be write protected.

  • Exporting/Sharing Custom XMP metadata schema not possible?

I've written a Python script which automatically encodes Quicktime files which I've mastered out of Premiere Pro CC with embedded custom XMP metadata (created using "New Schema" in the Metadata Display panel). I'm using the embedded custom metadata to drive the Python script (e.g. "Spot Title", "Client Name", fields etc etc), which encodes the source QT file to several different formats, based on the delivery specifications of various local TV broadcasters which the encoded files will go to.
Everything about the XMP metadata entry/writing/parsing is fantastic. My only hitch is in the exporting/sharing of the custom metadata schema which I created for this purpose. I would like to roll the schema out to the other editors in our facility, so that they can also enter the XMP metadata on their own systems when they export out master timelines from Premiere.
But unless I'm missing something, I can't figure out a way to "share" or export my custom schema for use on another system. Is this not possible in Premiere Pro CC?

There's no feature for exporting and importing custom schemas, but it's entirely doable. Here are the path to the custom schemas
    MAC: Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ <username> ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Adobe ▸ XMP ▸ Custom File Info Panels ▸ 4.0 ▸ custom
WIN: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\custom file info panels\4.0\panels [I can't vouch for this path as I'm on Mac at the moment and it's been ages since I poked around for custom schemas, but this should at least be the right neighborhood.]
You might also be interested in sharing your custom metadata display profiles. They in Documents ▸ Adobe ▸ Premiere Pro ▸ 8.0 ▸ Profile-mapes ▸ Metadata Preferences.

  • Modifying XMP metadata does not modify the document

Another from couple questions which accumulated over time.
If I modify layer in document by adding or updating XMP metadata, the document itself is not modified (does not enable save), so far if document is closed without doing some other action which marks document as modified, data are lost.
Question: how to either force document to see changes in XMP meta or how to mark document as modified?
    Code snippet:
         activeDocument.activeLayer.xmpMetadata.rawData = meta.serialize();
    Thanks,
    --Petr

When you ask app-specific questions, you should really specify the app you are referring to.
I'm guessing you are talking about Photoshop. This seems to be a scripting related question, and you'll probably get better answers on the Photoshop forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting

  • XMP metadata is not accepting the copyright symbol

While using the ModifyXMP method to append the metadata with some custom text data, it is found that, if the custom text data is having copyright symbol, metadata modification fails. Error can be caught as, 'Invalid UTF-8 sequence length'.
How to have the copyright symbol added in the XMP metadata?

    Hi Patton,
Could you try the following code to add dc:rights value (© adbe)
      char xmpStr[] = { 0xc2, 0xa9, 0x20, 'a', 'd', 'b', 'e', 0x00 };
       meta.SetProperty(kXMP_NS_DC, "rights", xmpStr, 0);
And please modify the xmpStr[] for your own text.

  • All methods to read xmp metadata  are not listed and described in documentation

    hi
i have checked xapdumper example. it uses many methods which are not listed in documentation.
also it is not able to read metadata from pdf files.
can anyone tell me that what should i do to read metadata.
i-e a brief explanation of steps i should follow to read metadata from a pdf file.
    thanks

I have found that the XMP data of an InDesign document can be retrieved in actionscript as follows:
    InDesign.app.activeDocument.metadataPreferences
    This returns the MetadataPreference object.
But I am not able to iterate each namespace in the xmp. There isn't any XMPFile class which allows me to serialize the object to xml file so that I can iterate all elements in the XMP.
I could not relate class like XMPMeta, XMPProp, etc. with the MetaDataPreference class. So, how to obtain the entire xmp packet from the MetadataPreference object?
Can anyone shed light on this?

  • KM links not functioning through Webdav repository view

    Hi All,
I have a somewhat complicated setup here which is causing some strange issues.
We have an EP instance and a BI portal instance setup. Currently we broadcast reports to our BI portal KM instance, and use ICE to replicate the data from BI portal KM to EP KM. This is not the desired end result.
According to SAP, the end result should consist of using a Webdav repository solution. When users hit the EP KM, specifically the content that is being replicated over currently, they would hit a Webdav repository which points to the BI portal KM, which has an identical KM folder structure. So far this works fine. The problem happens when we create links within the BI portal KM.
Near the root of the KM structure, we have the main content. We link back to this main content with different permissions on each link. This is done for business reasons.
When I try to access this linked content from the BI portal KM it works fine. From the EP KM it throws a HTTP 403 not authorized error. I have tried opening up the permissions to everyone on both KM's with no success. When I access the content directly (ie not linked) it works fine (same permissions). Any ideas why the linked content through a webdav repository would throw HTTP 403 errors?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard
Edit: I should add that we are currently using EP 7.0 EHP1 SP3 highest current patch level and BI 7.0 EHP1 SP3 highest current patch level.

    Hi,
I have a similar requirement where in we need to integrate CRM Content Management with SAP KM.Can you please let me know  -
    1. How do I connect it using the Web Dav repository manager. Can you point me to the document.
    2. If you were to resolve the error that is mentioned below. I will have a similar requirement once the WebDav repository manager is configured.

  • Dynamic Link not working in CS6

I'm working on a Mac on OS 10.7.4, dynamic link between Premiere Pro CS 6.0.2 keeps hanging up and won't successfully launch AE. Just to see if it was the individual project, I launched a new project and tried to link a single file and it did the same thing. I don't know if this is a preference thing or what, but any guidance is much appreciated.

  • What's the reason for " 'Writing XMP Metadata' did not complete successfully

I rightclicked an image and selected "save metadata to file" and got this not-so-very-informative error message. What could be the cause? The file is there and it is not write protected.
Adobe - what about giving some more information when LR encounters errors?
    Win XP, LR 1.3.1

While read only is the most likely cause, I have been trying to track down a similar problem which so far I can only equate to the creation time of the file ending in 00.
For example, I have a file taken at 6/13/2006 1:00:00 PM
If I do Metadata -> Edit Capture Time...
and set the time to be 6/13/2006 1:00:01 PM
Then click twice on the Resolve Conflicts button for Metadata, the second one works.  Both times I tell it to overwrite the metadata on disk.  My assumption is that the data processing logic has issues reading in entries like:
       2006-06-13T13:00:00-08:00
I would even go so far as speculating it treats them as just the day and drops the hour / minute portion.  The reason for this conjecture is that I stumbled on this issue when exporting images would occasionally have 2006/06/13 12:00AM as the timestamp and when I checked which ones had problems, they all were taken at 00 seconds into the minute.
Henrik, if you are still having this problem, does the file happen to have a 00 second creation timestamp?  If so, try changing it by a second and I would be curious if you it starts working for you too.
    Cheers,
    John

  • Writing XMP Metadata did not complete successfully

The subject line is the message Lightroom 1.3 (trial version installed today) under Windows XP gave me after selecting 102 Photoshop .psd files and trying to 'Save Metadata to Files' with <Ctrl-S>.  Fifty-two of the 102 files failed to update. The directory where these are stored (no files other than the .psd files) now has a bunch of files named 'filename.psd.swp', which are the ones that failed to update the metadata.<br /><br />All of the subject files, as well as the ones that updated successfully, are layered Photoshop files created in October 2004 with whatever version of Photoshop (CS?) was current at that time.  I'm going back and adding IPTC core contact info, as well as locations and 'Date Created' when that was missing.<br /><br />If I open the problem files in Photoshop CS3, make an invisible change and resave them then Lightroom will successfully update the metadata.  But that's a very tedious chore.  The .psd files are anywhere from 15K to 250K in size.  There's no pattern in the file sizes to the ones that failed to update.<br /><br />I've been doing this in Bridge CS3, but got tired of waiting for files to write.  They're on a Buffalo Terrastation on my network.  Lightroom seemed worth a try, editing the metadata in its internal database and then writing the updates to the original files in bulk while I sleep.  But this doesn't appear to be reliable.<br /><br />I didn't fine anything in Help, the Knowledge Base, nor this Forum that provided any clues.<br /><br />Any ideas?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />-- Mark Turner

Thanks!!

  • Windows links not functioning

    Hi
I am piloting the use of a mac on my companies windows network.
I have managed to mount the windows drives and can access all files as required. In general I have enjoyed the transition and love OSX.
The only thing that I have no clue how to get working is links to network locations in emails. If I click on an embedded link I get an error such as "The file ///filer1/shared/Engineering/Admin/New building planning/Building manual/published could not be found."
The drive referenced is mounted on my machine and I can access the file in Finder but not directly from the link.
Can anyone suggest how to make the links work?
    Thanks
    Guy

The link you received uses the old Windows (before the public Internet) network path format. Originally, you'd refer to files on Windows servers using the format
    \SERVERPathToShare
Since most network file servers at the time used '/' instead of '\' as a path separator, Windows eventually accepted this as an alternative:
    //SERVER/Path/To/Share
Then, the web came along and introduced the URL and URI. This used '/' as the file separator and introduced the protocol prefix and ':'. So, paths to files on Windows-type servers became:
    smb://SERVER/Path/To/Share
... and since Microsoft wanted to appear Internet savvy, they renamed SMB to CIFS (despite the protocol no routing across the internets), so we eventually ended up with the synonymous
    cifs://SERVER/Path/To/Share
Anyway... They are using the old Windows-style links whereas OS X (and other operating systems) use the newer URI link format. You can ask them to use the URI / Internet-style links, or you can cut and paste the link into Finder's "Connect to Server..." dialog and preprend 'smb:' to it.

Unfortunately the regedit ActiveX Compatibility GUID wasn't present so I couldn't delete it.  I kept searching and tried this:
     Follow these steps:
    a. Open Internet Explorer.
    b. Click “Tools” and “Internet Options.”
    c. Click the “Advanced” tab.
    d. Scroll down to “Security.”
    e. Un-check “Do not save encrypted pages to disk.”
    f. Click “Apply” and “OK.”
Restart Internet Explorer and verify if the issue persists.

Not sure why but if I uncheck the box it works and rechecking breaks it.  Perhaps IE downloads the files on behalf of Outlook and Word, but Outlook can't get to them if the files aren't saved in cache by IE.  Our SharePoint site is secured
    by an SSL/TLS certificate.

  • WLP Ajax Struts Portlet Links not function correctly after refresh

    Hi All,
I hope this hasn't being answered yet but i couldn't find any previous post on this, let me describe the environment.
Im working in WLP 10.3.2 Struts Portlet, i had enable:
    Enable Tree Optimization:     True
    Enable ScrollToWindow:     True
    Asynchronous Update Mode:     Desktop
    Enable DISC:     True
    Enable DVT:     True
During the first request when i entered the (portal url in the browser) all the html:link get replaced with their corresponding: href="javascript:bea.wlp.disc.xie._Service.update('myTargetURL','','')"
Which is Fine, if you click on it the request will go thru an AJAX submit, however the incoming page also have links on it (navigation link to going back or to apply something else) and those get render as regular link making the whole portal to refresh.
    ps:
Im using the corresponding BEA Stuts-html instead of struts default
