XNV-770BT "Speed In" Wire

Just purchased an XNV-770BT and will be installing it this weekend. I was wondering what the "Speed In" wire is for. Any other installation tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - Rondo

Rondo,
I think this is for when the satellite reception is poor, like in a tunnel, the device can continue to estimate your position on the map based on the vehicle's speed. I can tell you that it is NOT for auto-attenuation of the head unit's sound based on speed, which is a feature you would expect the unit to have.

Hello and thank you for your post.
What is the CD you are attempting to get album info from?
The XNV-770BT is not internet capable so it cannot pull album art/ info from Gracenote etc. Here is a Wiki list of all Enhanced CD's which have all the album art/ info encoded on the disc where it is able to display that information on the unit:

  • Sony XNV-770BT FM radio country change

I have a XNV-770BT and i am trying to use it in south africa but the radio stations move in 0.2 increments, is there an option to change the area or country?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Chistucky,
FM stations frequency in the United States is always an odd number. As this unit is designed to be used in the U.S, the presetting system on the unit only stores odd number FM radio frequencies (e.g. 95.7 Mhz, 100.1 Mhz, etc) and it will not save any even number radio frequency. There is no option to change the area or country.

  • Sony XNV-770BT and Sony XT-100HD

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the integration between the Sony XNV-770BT and the HD Tuner. The HD Tuner only offers a minimal subset of the feature set that the tuner controls offer. Although the HD Tuner works it was a waste of money since the feature set in the tuner is so much more useful. The HD Tuner is only useful for those set stations that you know and use every day.
Sony should really just integrate HD Radio into all the HU as the HD Tuner is just a disappointment.

I completely agree. Integration of 2 products from the same family should fully compliment each other!

  • Help! sony xnv 770bt

Since my other thread was locked I will start a new one. I just received my new sony xnv 770 bt back from repair at the laredo repair center. First they made zero changes to the unit to try to correct the problem. the unit has noise coming through the speaker channels. so they sent it back. Well They sent it back to me with scratches on the screen and a dent in the top right of the unit. This is bogus. I called them and they said it was like that when they received it. well all I can say is it wasnt scratched when I sent it. So I guess its time to take further steps and let everyone in the audio community know the type of service sony offers and the low quality of the unit itself! THE UNIT WAS NOT SCRATCHED WHEN I SENT IT TO THEM

The gash at the top right corner and the small 1/2" scrath, 1/4" scratch and the 1/8" scratch on the screen really dont look to be shipping damage, however I did open a claim with fed ex. This was double boxed in the factory packaging foam and box, then put into another box with other shipping pillows provided by the shipper. Sony needs to man up and admit fault at the laredo repair center. when they called me and told me they felt nothing was wrong with the unit, they never mentioned scrathches. Now they say they were there. I do have to say I didnt mean to be so rude to the people but they are calling me a liar and said the unit has nothing wrong and it must be my installation. Well between me and the authorized dealer nthe installation doesnt cause the high pitched noise. It is the radio power supply. nSo now between the noisy unit and now scratched unit you can call it what you want. now it is just a boat anchor Thanks sony!
One other thing.. the unit was obviously dropped or smashed, the right top corner where the gash is at, that side is pushed pack into the unit, so now the assembly is lopsided. There is no way sony can just do this to customers. something needs done!

  • XNV-770BT

I recently installed the 770BT into my Honda. I was expecting a lot, but in return I got a pretty poor system. I also purchased the Sirius add-on. Here are my issues:
    - I, like others are seeing the radio seek issue after powering off the unit. Pretty annoying.
    - speaking of powering off, why is that after I switch off my car and then come back and switch the car back on, the unit starts off in a powered off mode? I then have to power it back on, select my source, etc.
    - Also related to the above, why is it that the unit never remembers what Sirius channel I was listening when I switched off the car?
    - It definately seems like this unit is several different devices that are not integrated very well. Like if I want to make a call and I'm listening to another source, I have to go to the top menu and then drill down to the phone, etc. It would be better if there was some sort of voice activation button on all screens so i can make a voice activated call from any source. At least some sort of effect was put into overlaying a sound source over the NAV. Even better would have been to fully integrate all devices, audio, NAV, BT.
    - The fact that the Sirius source only shows about 10 characters of 1 line of data when there is all that space on the screen is beyond me. You have to hit the display button numerous times to get channel, song title, artist, etc. Just nuts.
Some of these are somewhat nit-picky, but some really need to be addressed (radio seek issue, power on to last source after the car is turned back on) and others like better integration could be feature requests. If i had not spent so much time, effort into installing this unit, I'd rip it out and toss it up on eBay and buy something else. Maybe what I'm looking for doesn't exsist. I'd like a unit that is like the factory installed units in some more expedite vehicles like the Infinity or others.
When can we expect a firmware update?

Correction - in terms of the powering back on after switching on the car instead of staying in a powered off state, this only seems to be an issue if I'm using the Sirius source when I shut off the car. If I have the iPod going when I switch off the car, the iPod will resume playing when I switch the car back on.
However it will start the song over from the beginning which isn't a big deal for music, but what if I were listening to an audiobook? Would it jump back to the beginning of the track and lose my place? I'll have to try that sometime.
Also if I have the radio turner as a source then that comes back on as well, but like I mentioned before it'll come back to the wrong station.

  • Sony XNV-770BT no sound periodically

I've now had 7 occurrences when after starting the car and not pressing the "OK" button on the head unit the unit starts playing where it left off but I have "no sound". Adjusting the audio level doesn't fix this. The only solution I've figured out for this has been to turn off the car and restart it. I've had this occur to me when I've been on Tuner, HD Radio, Disk, and USB.
The connections to the speaker wires are all fine. I've checked them all the first time this condition happened.
I've asked other members of PriusChat whether they've seen this or the radio station issue I reported earlier and they haven't. Could this at all be related the the HD Radio Tuner? or could I have a faulty unit.
When it works the Sony Unit is great. But these are rather annoying bugs.

8 occurrences now. Happened again to me this morning on the way to work. I can't find a pattern here though. It's extremely annoying and I may just abandon this HU if this keeps up.
Are there any planned firmware fixes for the HU that might fix this?

  • Sirius Radio on my Sony XNV 770BT

I have just installed a Sony XNV770 in my 08 GMC Serria P/U. I replaced a Pioneer AvicZ2. So far I have had nothing but trouble with this unit, and this is the second one I have had installed. The first one, we think may have been dropped during shipping, because none of the touchscreen icon worked. It would only play one FM radio station, and the nav quit working and also, the Sirius SAT. radio quit too. So we replaced the unit. Now the Sirius part of the new one is acting crazy again. It will not lock on to one channel. It just keeps scanning thru the entire Sirius lineup. Could the problem be with the Sirius 'brain' that we had to install in order to activate Sirius? This is killing me! I'm starting to regret changing over from my Pioneer!

Try testing the Units internal tuner, run scan function on FM tuner to see if it will lock on to one channel. If it does, then the issue is with the Serius receiver/brain. If it doesn’t, then the main unit is defective.

  • Touchscreen for XNV-770BT not sensitive enough

So, I installed this head unit about 5 months ago and the touchscreen seems to be losing it's sensitivity.  Five months ago, the sensitivity was not all that great, but now, for the most part, I have to push down pretty hard on the screen to engage a "button".  Is there a way to fix or adjust this?
    Thank you in advance

Try to calibrate the touch panel of the display by following the steps below.
Touch panel calibration is required if the touching position does not correspond with the proper item.
1 Touch “Source List” then  .
2 Touch “General.” The general setting menu appears.
3 Touch   to scroll, then touch “Touch Panel Adjust.”
       The setting display appears.
4 Touch the targets in sequence.  The calibration is complete.
       To cancel calibration, touch “Cancel.”

  • Sony XNV-770BT Install in 05 Mercedes CLK

How much would an installation like this cost, provided I have the parts that the Best buy tech needed including the dash kit, antenna, harness?  I've also purchased a "PAC SWI-PS Pioneer and Sony Universal Steering Wheel Radio Interface" to retain the steering wheel controls and want the USB/Ipod connector ran through to the glove compartment.
Given that this seems to me like a more advanced install, the 99.99 install would definitely be required, however the guy( a sales associate keep in mine)  I spoke to at best buy said an install like this would cost 99.99 for the steering wheel controls alone, and an additional 200$ for the head unit. This doesn't make sense to me at all, considering the "advanced install" is 99.99, and that seems to include everything I wanted other than the steering wheel controls.
Anyone have a better estimate? Does the SA know what he's talking about or was he speaking out of his ...butt?

Given what I know about the vehicle, the install charges would be as follows:
    Video Install: 99.99
    Steering Wheel Controls Install:59.99
Custom Labor Charge for running cable to glove compartment
    and running bluetooth mic: 39.98
There may be additional charges based on any added equipment and/or parts needed.
The prices above do not include products.
(this is also pricing based on a nevada store prices may differ elsewhere)

  • Single Wire CAN cDAQ

I have would like to use cDAQ for a set of testers that will be built.  These testers need to talk to various hardware and I wanted it to be flexible so I choose cDAQ because modules can be swapped out for I/O that is needed.  I saw that high speed CAN, low speed CAN, and even LIN is available in a cDAQ form factor, but single-wire CAN is not.
Is there an option for a single-wire CAN cDAQ module that I am not finding?  Why would NI not support a single-wire CAN interface on cDAQ when they do on PXI/PCI?

If 10 out of 10 experts in any field say something is bad, you should probably take their opinion seriously.

Our solution if anyone else is looking to do the same is to use an Intrepid neoECU hardware, which is a scriptable device with high speed/single wire CAN, LIN, and general purpose I/O.  It comes with some examples and one of them is a CAN gateway to convert high speed CAN messages to single wire CAN and backward.
We have this little device sit between a cDAQ high speed CAN device (NI 9862) and a signle wire CAN hardware to test.  We talk high speed CAN over 9862 and the neoECU sends out single wire CAN.  Obviously there are limits because the baud rate for high speed CAN is higher and you can over load the single wire bus, but if you just are aware, or setup filters on the neoECU it works fine.
This device can also be used as a LIN gatway as well sending LIN data back on high speed CAN but we haven't tested that part yet.  One downside is to program the deice you need to have a license of Vehicle Spy which is Intrpids CAN software.  It does have a trial and that maybe all you need.

  • Increase fan speed on Intel Core Duo Mac mini?

I have owned a PowerPC G4 based Mac mini for some time now. It's been (and continues to be) a great little computer.
Just recently I bought the Intel Core Duo version. It too seems like a great little computer.
However, I've got to admit that the amount of heat the Intel version puts out is staggering. The internal hard disk claims to be running around 119-126 degrees Fahrenheit. I put a thermometer near the vent on the back and it topped out at 120 degrees F. The bottom pad is nearly too hot to touch. This computer is running a distributed computing project.
Far be it from me to second guess Apple's engineers, but the fan is never turning very fast at all on the Intel mini. It is running, though, and appears to be doing as it was designed to do. (I've seen my PowerPC machine get to rip-roaring during the summer.)
Running the Apple Hardware Test shows that the Intel mini's fan can speed up quite a bit. I'd like to know if there's a way to request a higher fan speed outside of the Hardware Test. I know I could pop the thing open and just "forget" to reconnect the fan speed sensor wire to command the fan to run at full speed, but I don't want to invalidate the warranty.
Maybe I'm being silly, but I prefer that my computers be moving enough air from them to keep things cool regardless of noise level.

The smcFanControl utility is what ended up solving this problem. Turning up the fan speeds just a little bit resulted in a very noticeable cool-down.

  • Please help me: streaming with the wrt54g

    Hi
I got a wrt54g v 5. I have tried to stream web-TV at 800 kb/s from my internet connection of 3.5 Mbps. When I connect my computer straight to the modem by wire, the streaming works perfect. When I try to stream the same on the WLAN it freezes afther just some seconds. I have also tried to measure the speed with wire and wireless, and it gets the same result about 3.5 mbps. My computer is also the only one on the network.
Why does this happen? I have updated the firmware, tried different MTU values and also tried some other different things like turn of the cryptation, have the computer right beside the router and different wireless channels. It still freezes. I am starting to get frustrated.
So what can I do to get a 800 kbps stream to work with this 54 mbps wireless network??? Is it possible? Or is not the router good enought? If it don't work: ehy cant a router send a signal that is 60-70 times slower than 54 mbps?
(sorry about my english, I am norwegian)
Message Edited by sew on 05-05-200710:24 AM

54g is not really fast enough, but it can work if you use buffering(WMP or VLC), try something simple like running a batchfile which does a ping in a loop while streaming.
    Try also these settings:
    Beacon Interval: 50
    DTIM Interval: 1
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2307
    RTS Threshold: 2306
