Xorg 1.10 and catalyst 11.2 AUR are in conflict

Cannot upgrade

Yeeees, catalyst isn't supporting xserver 1.10 atm. Maybe 11.3 will support it, maybe.
Workaround is to:
- add xorg-server-* and xf86-input-* packages which you installed into pacman.conf's IgnorePkg list
- OR use [xorg19] repo - read wiki .

  • Xmonad, xorg 1.9, and catalyst-test

    Hi guys,
I'm running xorg 1.9 and catalyst-test on my HP Envy 15 (which contains a Radeon Mobility 5830.)  Almost everything works; nothing strange appears in /var/log/Xorg.log or glxinfo.  It's clear that my hardware acceleration is fine because I'm getting 200+ FPS in Extreme Tux Racer.
However, xmonad, of all things, is super-slow.  When I switch workspaces or spawn tiled windows, the redraw lag is quite visible and I can see my CPU spike.
Amid other reports of X problems, I tried installing the backclear/catalyst-maximize-fix xserver packages from the catalyst repository, but those didn't seem to help.  I also tried flipping the bit to enable XAA 2D acceleration, and that didn't seem to help either.
Any ideas as to why X doesn't seem to be accelerating this properly?

    1. thanks for not simply posting a link
    2. that search would return threads regarding this problem on 32bit hosts - i run a 64bit host. my main concern is that this would install incompatible 32bit binaries.
    1. You're welcome. Self-help is the best kind.
    2. If you'd done the search I recommended you would have seen that the problem is not related to arch at all, but is due to upstream renaming.

  • Current and previous version of Pages are in conflict.

Since installing the new version of Pages I'm unable to open the application on my Macbook Pro.  The menu bar appears but that's it...can't open existing documents or create new ones.  (works fine on my iPad and iPhone) I took it into the Apple store and confused them!  The final conclusion was that the 2 versions of Pages still existed and were in conflict thereby preventing either from opening. They wiped my machine and I reloaded everything manually per their instructions.  Pages opened successfully on the first attempt and has since gone back to not giving me anything but the menu bar.  I'm hesitant to take it back to the store since I'll probably be given the same results and the reloading process was a pain.  It does appear that both versions of Pages is still in existance on my Mac.  Suggestions?  OS X 10.9.2  Can't tell you the specifics abotu either version of Pages short of them being the 'new' Pages and the most recent previous version.

What fools you must have at your local Apple Store!
You tell the version of each application by looking in the Application menu when it is open or selecting it in Finder and hitting command i (Get Info).
You should have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 in your Applications/iWork folder.
You were alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
If you can archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store.

Xserver is at version 1.13, catalyst should be at version 12.9
The xorg.conf-file was generated through aticonfig --inital and worked before the update. While searching the net i came across /etc/dbus-1/gdm.conf, maybe its a permission-problem?
    Any help is appreciated

Had also a problem with xorg 1.13 and catalyst. (just not gdm but slim).
    I found this:
The main graphics drivers have already been updated to support the new API. The proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver has also been updated for the X.Org Server 1.13 ABI. The only common driver not yet supporting this new xorg-server release is the AMD Catalyst binary driver, but the API/ABI support should be there within a few months.
    Source: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … px=MTE3Njg
    Seems that is the reason.
In this topic [1] Vi0L0 said that catalyst-test from AUR works with xorg 1.13 from [testing]. I didn't test that. I just downgraded xorg-server, xorg-server-common, catalyst-utils, lib32-catalyst-utils (and xf86-input-evdev because the newest package has always dep. to the newest xorg-server).
    [1] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 0#p1172200
My package versions are (after downgrading):
    xorg-server 1.12.4-1
    xorg-server-common 1.12.4-1

Edit: I just realised that there is a new catalyst package (catalyst-dkms) on the [community], i always used the package from the [catalyst] repo (Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch).

  • Ati 4890 - xorg 1.7.2 - catalyst?

well , hello everyone i had an idea and i want your opinion ,
i have ati 4890 graphics card and i wondered if i can install the catalyst drivers..(i know that arch dropped support since xorg 1.6) and i dont want to experiment with compiling kernels and downgrades (yet)
, so here is my idea , what about if i download the official ati drivers from amd's site and install them.. , it says that the support the current 1.7.2 xorg , will this work for me?
i'd love to hear your opinion:)
on the other way , am i going to be ok with radeon hd drivers?(if i don't make it with catalyst)
    thanks for your time:)

The catalyst driver does not support xorg 1.7 yet, and probably won't for some time. (my bet is no support until the next ubuntu release, that's what happened the last two times )
You probably want to read trough and follow this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084
The free xf86-video-ati and -radeonhd drivers have partly support for the card. 2d should work, 3d will be limited.
Edit: Do _not_ download and build directly from amd.com. Always use makepkg/pacman or you will just end up in a world of pain.

  • [solved]wacom doesn't work after upgrade to xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29

    hello..
i have already posted about that in testing-forums, but since xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 have moved to extra, though i'd create a seperate topic about that.
after i have upgraded to xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 my wacom device (as built-in, not usb) on my thinkpad x41t stopped working.
before upgrade i have used xorg with hotplugging enabled. everything worked fine.
after wacom stopeed working i removed everything regarding input devices from xorg.conf -> no change
put an fdi-file for wacom -> no change
    installed linuxwacom-dev -> no change
i don't really know, if it's a kernel or an xorg issue. loading wacom drivers manually still doesn't solve the problem. no warnings or errors about wacom in xorg-log or messages.log
how could i check, wether my system recognizes the device properly at all? it doesn't show up in lspci or in lsusb.
    any help would be great.

well, upgraded again to xorg-server 1.6, disabled hotplugging, installed linuxwacom-dev from aur and the wacom works as allways. (had to edit xmodmap one more time, since kbd returns other keycodes than evdev does :-| ). no matter, done is done.
but intel driver returns broken graphics if i rotate screen with xrandr.
i guess there is no way around this execpt switching to the ultra-slow legacy driver?
just for comparison - glxgears fps:
    intel: ~900fps
    intel-legacy: ~280fps

I don't know how you updated, but I use the catalyst repository, and in the last big update, there was an issue in the order of installing linux 3 and catalyst 11.7 (?), such that the fglrx hook failed. I had to redo building the image, whereupon the hook worked. Did you check for messages as it rebuilt the image?
Sorry if this was obvious, but I am not arch-guts/catalyst savvy.

  • Black screen instead of TTYs after Xorg once started and leaved

    Hi,
I've installed Arch on my laptop and experience following issue... I log in after boot and run "startx", then openbox starts properly. This is fine, but when I leave X, I can't see anything (TTY expected). I can switch to another TTY, login as root and type "reboot" or type "killall X", then log in as regular user and type "startx" to get openbox again. So there are TTYs obviously but I can't see anything but black screen.
By leaving X (above) I mean...
    - typing "sudo killal X" in xterm
    - using openbox "Log Out" menu option
    - switching to another TTY by hitting Alt+Fn
All of these lead to the same issue.
I assume it's not Xorg problem, but I may be wrong of course. Is that driver related? I have Nvidia card and use proprietary drivers installed via pacman. Can anybody give me an advice where to look? Thanks a lot. I also attach (maybe relevant) outputs. If there is anything else needed to know please tell me and I'll post it.

I was having this exact same problem, then it just stopped. I am using the nouveau driver and I have a tnt2 card.
IIRC, I was having an unrelated problem with xorg or udev or something was having problems detecting my monitor, it claimed I had two monitors connected, I wrote an xorg.conf file and that fixed the problem. IDK if its is related or not because I don't recall exactly when things started working when I would switch ttys.
Try using the nouveau driver and see if it does the same thing, it has a kernel module so it might make difference,

  • Xorg 1.8 and nvidia drivers 'nvidia-xconfig' NEED tip to fix

[what part of my xorg.conf needs to me moved, and to where?]
Hi, I routinely swap between intel, savage, nvidia drivers running my ARCH install off my USB.
Ok, so I'm using xorg 1.8 and the intel works though of course the nividia with nvidia-xconfig command writes and xorg.conf to
    /etc/X11
Right, so I am aware, I believe the it's now the xorg.d folder. and, it currenly has 3 files in it, none of which say
xorg.conf of course. The three are named starting with '10-'  you know the ones. :-)
So, what, where, how  with my xorg.cong of other, do i get myself running again? With your help i'd say!
    thanks.

So, added that near the top after ServerLayout
now it hangs with flashing cursor though I get different info
warning this server has a video ABI version of 7.0 that this driver does not officially support.etc. etc. etc.
Use the -ignorABI option to override this check.
    failed to load module nvidia
    fatal server error
    no screen found
Can you think of what I've done wrong?
i'm running latest everything though not 'testing' repo.
maybe put the 'ServerFlags" near the bottom?

    xorg "virtual screen"
    Virtual 3000 1700
    My Left Monitor is DVI-1
    My Right Monitor is DVI-0
I like to have a portrait view on my left monitor and a landscape view on my right monitor.
Previously I used to run this script to arrange my monitors:
xrandr --ouput DVI-0 --mode 1920x1200 --pos 1080x0 --rotate normal --output DVI-1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate left
After I updated to xorg 1.6 and randr 1.3 my settings were screwed up. Badly.
So I disabled my monitor script and started to experiment.
    4 hours later ....
I was getting so frustrated that I was seriously considering moving to crunchbang. But I stuck with it.
Finally I figured out that I cannot call all of the commands that I want at one time.
What I mean is this works:
xrandr --output DVI-0 --rotate normal --mode 1920x1200
xrandr --output DVI-1 --rotate left --pos 0x0
    xrandr --output DVI-0 --pos 1055x0
    This does not work:
xrandr --output DVI-0 --rotate normal --mode 1920x1200 --pos 1055x0 --output DVI-1 --rotate left --pos 0x0
Was this a bug in randr 1.2 or is it a regression in randr 1.3?

    Hi all,
I have a rpoblem with a specific client with LMS 3.2. We are using LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 and everything seem to be working OK. The issue is in the CiscoView with the 4500 switches. I have updated the s/w to 12.2(53) SG1 with no luck.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Nicos,
I have exactly the same issue with LMS 3.2 CiscoView under Windows 2003 and catalyst switch 4506-E.
    4506-E are in IOS 12.2(53)SG2.
I installed latest 4500IOS V 19.0 ciscoview device package without success.
Did you fix your problem ?

As far as I know catalyst-daemon and catalyst-hook provide the same module so they are in conflict. The difference is that catalyst-daemon uses a daemon at startup to check for a new kernel and compile a new module when needed. Catalyst-hook does the same thing with a hook.
I picked the daemon method and just answered no to replace with -hook or -generator (catalyst-generator also conflicts with the others). Just choose the one you like.
