if you do, try disabling it and use some other window manager.
tell me if it works.
without compiz it works..
anyway, ive done some more searching, and it appears to be the gallium port messing things up. but it will be disabled when xorg moves to extra, or so ive read.
thanks for the reply

  • Visual glitches in kde (xorg 1.6 intel-legacy)

    desktop box + intel 865 G + arch + xorg 1.6 + intel legacy + kde 4.2.2
    installed this night from scratch
    everything works (including composite etc)
i have many minor glitches like
text in multiline textboxes is white - invisible( i can see it if i select it with the mouse)
distortion in single line textboxes / dropdowns / etc (for example when i type new http://www in konqueror its typed right over another one)
this happens with composite switched either on or off in kde

  • Satellite M100- INTEL made new gma945 driver - Can I use it?

INTEL made new gma945 driver, but where's no it on Toshiba driver download, I have only ATI updates, so WILL I HAVE PROBLEMS IF I INSTALL UPDATED DRIVER from INTEL page?

    > WILL I HAVE PROBLEMS IF I INSTALL UPDATED DRIVER from INTEL page?
I think nobody will be able to say if its safe or not to use non-Toshiba drivers.
Non-Toshiba drivers are not officially tested on Toshiba notebooks!
But I can tell you my experience using the original Intel drivers. I have installed it on my old Toshiba notebook and I didnt notice any problems using the Intel driver. Everything seems to be ok.

  • Garbled display at startup when connecting to External Monitor - MBP Early 2011.

    Hi,
When i connect my Early 2011 MBP to an external display i get a garbled display at startup.
I then have to disconnect the hdmi cable to the external monitor, after which the display clears up (on the laptop) and then when i reconnect the external monitor, it works fine. The problem with this process is that i have to do it each time i start/boot my laptop with the external display connected. The display mode is currently set to mirror displays if that helps.
Would appreciate any advice users with this kind of set up can provide. Thank you in advance.

    Welcome!!
It could be that you are using the external in "mirrored mode" with the res set above the max res for the MBP screen. On my Late 2007 MBP, the F7 key toggles between mirrored mode and "spanning" (or "extended desktop") mode and System preferences will let you set the two displays independently. I use an external monitor in spanning mode and have not experienced a problem as I have the internal display prefs set to a comfortable res for its hardware.

  • Intel version's Safari cannot display some website's photos (but PPC cannt)

The Safari (Intel) is not able to display graphics/photos in some websites, (like http://www.fotop.net).
but if running the safari in rosetta mode, it will able to display so.
Can any one help to know want happened?

This MacOSX Hints page shows how to enable the debug menu, which also allows you to change the user agent.
Since the site works fine on Safari 2.0.3 ( 417.9.2) for me, I'd say that the website simply need to update their User Agent identification info to account for the latest versions. But hey - just tell both partys.
Hopefully someone else here with an Intel Mac can confirm if the site works for them.

  • Garbled display on 1st Power on. K8N Neo4 SLI & 6600GT. 4 green leds

I assembled my 3700 San Diego, K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI, MSI 6600GT with OCZ 520W PS.  On my first power on, following occurred.
    1.  Got 1 beep & went through all LED lights winding up with 4 green LEDs finally hanging with a totally grabled display CRT screen.  Could only make out a couple of letters V
    2.  When I removed the Raptor HD connection & restarted, it loaded Win 64 setup (from DVD ROM since it couldn't find HD)winding up with a garbled screen but I could barely make out the familiar Windows setup continue words, so I'm at least at a point when I could start installing Windows.
    3.  The 6600GT has no power pins, so it can't be that. CRT connection is tight.  I took out the card & put it back in. Same garbled display.
I tried a LCD display...same garbled look. All else looks okay.  Forum searches only gave a clue that initial display drivers all come from the 6600GT card to get one started.  I can't do anything in BIOS  as I can't tell if del is getting me into BIOS and even if it is, I can't read it to do anything. I can't do anything with driver updates as Win 64 isn't installed.  I haven't tried resetting BIOS
    Anyone have a similar experience?
    Regards, Ron

No solution yet. What model CPU are you running?  You might want to add your signature sytem so people on this board can know what you're running in the way of cpu, power, mobo, etc.  I ordered another MSI 6600GT td128e from ZipZoomFly.  It should arrive Monday.  If it also fails, then it must be the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI.
I tried a 3d monitor and tried another Power Supply, took out 1 memory card.  Nothing works.  I have an RMA in to ZZF. If it fails Monday with the 2d card, they said I could send the whole assembly of mobo, graphics cards and 3700 back for them to check out.  If it works, it means it's the intial 6600GT & I'll just send that back.  This makes 3 of us now that have this problem.  Other guy has an RMA in also to ZZF. See my post at https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=81206.0   I talked to MSI by phone; they couldn't offer anything except possibly defective card or graphics slot on the mobo.  They never did answer my problem submission from their web site
I posted a question that if both LED checks #6 and #9 are green and these appear to check for VGA, does this mean it's unlikely that it's the mobo. No answer yet.
I have an uneasy feeling, though that it's not the 6600GT & that the 2d one will fail also.  I tried to find a computer repair shop in White Plains, NY that might be able to test out the card for me for a fee, but amazingly most have gone out of business, and few others only repair full systems you bring in.  Also, AMD64 and SLI are pretty new technologies so maybe nobody has a system around.
    Regards, Ron

  • [SOLVED]Uefi + kms = garbled display, X broken.

I've been trying to get my new system up and running, it being new, I opted for an 'uefi-mode'-install.
My system is now configured, that rEFInd is run on startup, and from there I can select my kernel and boot it up (via efistub).
This works just fine, except that I have to disable KMS, or else I will get a blank screen(some flashing text is faintly visible on the top line of the display during boot).
If I configure X to automatically start, I get a totally garbled display(very pink). Depending on the combination of kernel options(passed via efistub) the screen also flashes.
Providing nomodeset solves the problem to a somewhat dis-satisfactory degree, as then the video driver refuses to work for X. I must force the use of the vesa driver, which sucks.
    So,
freshly installed system(09.08.12), kernel 3.4, the radeon driver(xf86-video-ati). my card is a radeon 6850hd (northen island, barts I think).
    Options and effects:
    I always pass add_efi_memmap
    video=efifb:off          -> no flicker/flashing, display still unusable.
video=radeondrmfb  -> flickering/flashing, kernel log reports "fb: conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver"
nomodeset             -> display works fine, display mode is that of uefi(my case 1024x768), native mode would be 1280x1024. X fails, force vesa as a workaround.
    radeon.modeset=0  -> same as above.
I think this may be a big fat bug
    Any Ideas?
    EDIT:
I've upgraded to 3.5.1-1-ARCH from testing, and the problem still persists. I'm now trying 3.6-rc1 but thats just freezing at boot atm.
    UPDATE:
I found this pull request and today tried 3.6.0-rc3 straight form kernel.org
I can now startx with the radeon driver, and have full direct rendering and no distortions. I sadly get no output to the console during boot, the screen just turns off.
I'm marking this as solved, because I think this could just be down do misconfiguration in the kernel.

I had a similar sort of problem and used the following:
sleep 1 && xset dpms force off
That may or may not work for you...
It doesn't work for me - it immediately turns on again.
But the problem is not that I can't force the display to turn off, but that it will *never* turn off automatically to save power when not used.

  • Xorg 1.8 Intel framebuffer bug

I'm running into this bug in the current version of Xorg; not sure if it's from intel-dri, xorg-server, libdrm, etc.  Just wondering if there might be an update to the Arch package in the cards since the freedesktop team already has a fix.
Bug 28515 - [i915] Failed to allocate framebuffer when exceed 2048 width
(Sorry if this has already been reported)

It was in libdrm, here's the patch (works great ):

    Hello.
I have a ASUS 1001HA netbook. I'm running the latest xorg-server xf86-video-intel and KDE from the stable Archlinux repos.

  • Xorg + xf86-video-intel lags with compiz / high cpu usage without it

I have recently noticed that my X server lags. It happens approximately once per second (it's fairly regular) and it can be easily observed when watching movies, dragging windows or rotating cube. Screen just hangs for some milliseconds. Lags are bigger and happens more often when many windows are opened.
Even worse things happen when I'm _not_ running compiz. X's cpu usage spikes permanently up to 30-40% and lags are even more noticable.
    My hardware:
    Laptop with Intel GMA 950
    Configuration
I tried some different xorg.confs but it seems to be irrevelant. It happens even on plain conf created by 'Xorg -configure'
    xorg-server 1.5.3-3
    mesa 7.2-1
    xf86-video-intel 2.4.3-1
    kernel26 2.6.27.8-1
I also tried downgrading these packages to
    xorg-server 1.4.2-2
    mesa 7.0.3-3
    xf86-video-intel 2.3.2-1
    kernel26 2.6.27-1
and it seems to resolve cpu usage problem but not the lags.
Does anybody know what might cause these lags? It's really annoying.

It turned out that color depth was the issue. I think that 24bit is too big for my graphics card and compiz (although I remember that i810+24bit+compiz worked fine).
So changing DefaultDepth in xorg.conf to 16 fixed the problem. Is there any other way to workaround this without decreasing color depth?

  • Garbled display on gnome

    hey,
i am having this funny issue. every once or twice in a day, my display suddenly gets all garbled up. this is not triggered by anything, it just happens - the panels get all fuzzy and the ends of the screen are in the middle and all that. it gets all fine within a couple of seconds if i click anywhere on the screen. it is not really a problem, but slightly irritating because everything else about my arch is perfectly flawless.
do you have any idea, why this is happening. a couple of days earlier i had been trying to update my system, and the xorg-server would not update. the file would be downloaded and then it will say that the file is corrupted. but the problem i have has been happening since before then.
any ideas/help on the issue. thanks!

You can verify the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and find something similar to (if the vesa driver is installed):
    X.Org XInput driver : 2.0
    (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//vesa_drv.so
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 2.0

  • Intel Mac Mini Pink hue display problem

Originally purchase a refurbed Mac Mini 1.66 Intel Core Duo, and over the years I've upgraded the RAM (w/ 2 Gigs) replace wifi "G" card with "N" card. Unfortunately, my mac mini died. Went to the Apple store in Tampa, and the genius said the logic board was toast.
I replaced the logic board with 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo board, and everything is working fine except for the display.
When it starts up, the standard grey screen now has a pink hue. After booting is finished the screen still has the pink hue. However, after a bit, the screen turns to normal, but there is some flicker. My mini is connected to a Samsung LCD 17" display that is working fine. There are no cable issues, I connected the display to my iBook, and it works fine.
Has anyone come across this before? Do I need to reseat the RAM sticks? Is there a software setting that I need to change since I upgraded from a 1.66 logic board to a 1.83?
The logic board is under warranty, but I was hoping to get some answers that can be easily fixed instead of sending it back.

I took the mac mini to work, and hooked it up to my monitor. It still displayed the pink hue at start up. I'm leaning toward this being a bad logic board.
One thing that is curious is that the screen will loose most of the pink hue as the Mac Mini warms up. It's almost back to normal, but the colors still have a little too much pink even after adjusting the monitor. Also, you can see flicker as it warms up as well.
I'm sending back the logic board for replacement.

  • Mac Book Pro 13" Garbled Display Issue

I got a Mac Book Pro 13" inches a couple of weeks ago, and this morning the first time I turned it on it displayed garbled graphics.
It seems not be a GPU problem as I have connected an external monitor and it works perfectly fine.
I have opened and double checked the connection to the MB and everything seems to be fine.
Any suggestions on what to do or what the problem might be?

  • U330 - Intel X4500MHD not recognizing external display

I have the U330 (win7 x86) fully updated and an LCD w/ max resolution of 1920x1080 and dvi/vga ports
The issue that I have is that when using the intel x4500mhd via the hdmi dvi cable, it does not recognize the monitor. It works if I use the ATI card, but it is louder than the Intel counterpart, so I would like to get use the Intel if possible. I tried rebooting, unplugging hdmi dvi cable, bu **bleep** doesn't work. The lcd is set at its native resolution/refresh rate.
Now, I thought that maybe each graphic card use a different port, intel=vga, ati=hdmi, and that's why i'm not seeing anything, but i'm just guessing
    Any help?

check bios and/or graphic drivers updates, if it's available, try to flash/update them first.
