Xorg 1.8 and nvidia drivers 'nvidia-xconfig' NEED tip to fix

[what part of my xorg.conf needs to me moved, and to where?]
Hi, I routinely swap between intel, savage, nvidia drivers running my ARCH install off my USB.
Ok, so I'm using xorg 1.8 and the intel works though of course the nividia with nvidia-xconfig command writes and xorg.conf to
/etc/X11
Right, so I am aware, I believe the it's now the xorg.d folder. and, it currenly has 3 files in it, none of which say
xorg.conf of course. The three are named starting with '10-'  you know the ones. :-)
So, what, where, how  with my xorg.cong of other, do i get myself running again? With your help i'd say!

So, added that near the top after ServerLayout
now it hangs with flashing cursor though I get different info
warning this server has a video ABI version of 7.0 that this driver does not officially support.etc. etc. etc.
Use the -ignorABI option to override this check.
failed to load module nvidia
fatal server error
no screen found
Can you think of what I've done wrong?
i'm running latest everything though not 'testing' repo.
maybe put the 'ServerFlags" near the bottom?

    Whoever told you that is wrong. The warranty on a repair or replacement iPhone is still 90 days minimum. Quoting from their Service FAQ:

  • What drivers do I need to reinstall different OS and where can I download them for ThinkPads T61?

    I just accidentally purchased one ThinkPads T61 with Linux OS version.  I don't use Linux so I plan to wipe out Linux and install Windows XP Pro instead.  I have the Windows OS, but as I know I will need to install some drivers afterward to make the notebook work properly. 
    My question would be: How many and what drivers do I need to reinstall different OS and where can I download them?

  • Sever issue with Xorg and Nvidia Drivers

    I run a 2.6.20 kernel with Xorg and Nvidia drivers all from arch rep on a Asus NV6200. Everything works fine, except one thing. When I exit X, the monitor shuts down imediatly. It wont start up at all, not even by manual startup. I cant understand what happens. The configuration is correct, is done with the correct settings for my video-card and monitor taken directly from the documentation. I cant use my X server at all since several days ... I checked the logs and there are no EE's. Anyway ... here is the log. Help anyone can help, I cant use X at all.

    No ... the problem is in the kernel that comes precompiled.
    I did this test.
    The first time I installed the kernel I unloaded nvidiafb since I dont like it.
    When I install nvidiafb back something strange happends. Nvidia module fails to load.
    The modprobe sais it cannot find the device nvidia.ko ... but it is there!
    So my best guess is, there is something with the kernel. Any ideas?

    I could open it in build 3518 (newest build is 3718). Just go to File, Open.. and choose the pull-down to filter for RTFs. I got one continuous and one discreet SB. Is that correct?

  • Xorg 1.8 + nvidia drivers

    Hey guys!
    Yesterday, I upgraded to the new xorg 1.8.0.901-1 with nvidia 195.36.24-1 and nvidia-utils 195.36.24-2, but in some sites the scrolling is veeeeery slow (using the scroll bar, with the mouse wheel it's better, but not 100%), example page: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/38131 . In this page, when I try to scroll down using the scroll bar, my X process consumes between 40 and 55% of CPU o.O, and Firefox is very choppy (ps. Pango is disabled in Firefox).
    My video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400 GS] (rev a1)
    Am I missing some important/magic option in the device section?

  • Aluminum MacBook 24.GHz and Windows 7 64-bit - NVidia Drivers and kbmgr.exe

    I ahve got this mostly working, except I cannot install any Nvidia drivers - windows 7 insists they are not compatible.
    I installed the laptopvideo2go 9400M 64-bit Nvidia drivers via modded inf, Windows identifies them as drivers which match my video card, but when I try to change to that driver, Windows says those drivers are not compatible with the OS.
    Anyone figure out a workaround?
    Also, kbmgr.exe does not work at all, no errors, nothing happens when I double-click on it.

    Yesterday, I set up rEFIt boot loader and tried to boot from the DVD. There were a list of errors. Probably the problem is my external DVD drive, but SL was installed using the very one. Continue my investigation ...

    Hello,
    I moved to use Ubuntu on my Z360 laptop. I installed Ubuntu 13.04.
    But I have a problem with NVIDIA drivers. I tried to download it from NVIDIA website and install it but it brings a lot of problems.
    The resolution of desktop switched to very low and OpenGL cannot start - all dialogs hasn't title panel, desktop without panels.
    Please, can somebody explain how can I install NVIDIA drivers and enable Optimus on my Z360?

    I am not sure if Nvidia supports 13.04 because it is still in the Beta stage?

  • New kernel and problems installing nvidia-legacy drivers

    I just compiled new kernel, and I can't install nvidia-legacy drivers properly. Pacman installs them, but the module (nvidia.ko) goes to /lib/modules/2.6.19-ARCH, and I want it to 2.6.19.2.. It doesn't work if I just copy the module..
    I've compiled kernel many times without problems when I was still using Slackware.  So, what do I need to configure to use the new module directory? I Propably made some small/stupid mistake..
    I tried legacy drivers from nvidia.com, but they didnt compile.. weird, gonna try that again too..

    You need to install the nvidia drivers, or any other non-kernel drivers, specifically for the kernel you are using. Arch packages the nvidia drivers to work with the Arch kernel packages, and the "Arch way" to deal with your situation is to modify the appropriate PKGBUILD to match your kernel, create a custom package with makepkg, and install it with pacman.
    You can also use the nvidia installer, but in that case the nvidia files installed on your system will not be under pacman's control.

  • [Unsolved] Awesome, Composition, xinerama and the Nvidia drivers.

    I have a setup that uses the Awesome WM, 3 monitors under xinerama, and the proprietary nvidia drivers, and I find conflicting information about the compatibility between xinerama, compositing and the nvidia drivers. At the moment trying to run a composition manager (xcompmgr and cario) the whole screen except for the awesome menu bar turns a single color (grey for xcomp, and black for cairo) and my machine locks up.
    The arch wiki ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Composite ) says these don't work together but wikipedia does ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xinerama#cite_note-2 ).
    Help?

    From what I understand, the commit cited in the wikipedia article only removes an artificial barrier to simultaneous Xinerama+Compositing but does not address the structural incompatibilities or fix any related bugs, so your X server will happily try to use them together and fail miserably. It is really a red herring. I have never heard of a single setup where they have worked together - some dev has just swept the problem further under the rug.
    My guess is nobody wants to invest the time, hoping Wayland will make it irrelevant in a few years.

    so you see it want to upgrade my kernel which I dont want. because my kile and k3b programs gives Segmentation fault when i try to start them.

  • (Workaround-ed) Xorg crashes on logout with latest nVidia driver

    I can enter a DE through the login just fine after a clean startup or a reboot. It's just that after I logout using Ctrl Alt Backspace, it just keeps crashing and won't bring me to the login screen again.

  • [SOLVED] Error with Nvidia Drivers (following the Beginner's Guide)

    I followed the beginner's installation guide and everything worked fine all the way up untill updating the kernel module dependencies using the "depmod -a" command..
    First I created the "xorg.conf" file with the "nvidia-xconfig" command and it said:
    Make sure all instances of DRI are commented out:
    #    Load        "dri"
    However, there are no instances of "dri" in my xorg.conf file, so i skipped this step and moved on.
    Next it said:
    Double check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to make sure your default depth, horizontal sync, vertical refresh, and resolutions are acceptable.
    But I don't know what they should be set to, so I skipped this and moved on again.
    This is where everything fails:
    The next step is to use the following command to update the kernel module dependencies for the nVidia drivers.
    depmod -a
    But when i do that, it fails.
    Anyone know possibly why or has had this issue?

    When you first install the proprietary drivers. That's it, unless you will be maintaining a custom kernel system or something. In fact, the proprietary drivers might even run the depmod script themselves, I don't know, since it is a black box binary. Makes sense, but someone else would need to answer that.
    EDIT: Also wanted to add that many shell commands throw no output whatsoever upon successful completion. Therefore, the absence of error output can be interpreted as no error. Just FYI.

  • Drivers Nvidia MX 4000

    Hello, I want to play Age of Empires 2 on Arch, so I need to install the nvidia drivers.
    I have a Nvidia MX 4000-card, which is quite old.
    Uuuhm I've installed the nvidia-drivers (pacman -S nvidia) and ran nvidia-xconfig.
    But when I tried to start X, I get the "No screens found"-error, so I changed the "nvidia" back to "vesa" and everything worked again.
    Then i looked to the wiki again, and i clicked on "See the README from nvidia for details on which card is supported by which driver."
    "Below are the legacy GPUs that are no longer supported in the unified driver. These GPUs will continue to be maintained through the special legacy NVIDIA GPU driver releases.
    The 1.0-96xx driver supports the following set of GPUs:
    MX 4000
    So what do i have to do now ?

  • Extremely slow kde environment w/ nvidia drivers

    Hello All, hopefully I haven't double-posted this:
    I have an "Quadro NVS 285" pci-express card in my desktop.  As of KDE 4.7 it's un-usably slow when running KDE.  It doesn't matter if I use the nouveau or nivida proprietary drivers, though the open source drivers seem just a little bit better, both behave really badly.  There's alot of tearing when dragging windows, and may parts of the display take a very long time to refresh.  I've tried running both the current kernel and the lts version of the kernel.  I recently upgraded from 2.6.32.49-1-lts to 3.0.17-1-lts but both were pretty much equally bad.  I think the problems are somehow related to kwin.
    xfce 4 runs nicely enough, in fact, I have no serious trouble running amarok or konsole under xfce.
    Meanwhile, certain applications run under kwin.  Chromium seems to run reasonable well, so do xfce4's Terminal and unison-gtk, I suspect what the applications hold in commen is that they use the gtk2 widget set. 
    Konsole also runs sort-of OK, though it kind of lags when you move the window or open a new window.
    Most KDE applications, such as amarok and systemsettings, fail to start, with this warning when launched from a terminal emulator:
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    Googling for that reveals that some Fedora folks were having trouble around version 15 with something similar while using the Nvidia proprietary drivers, though at least one person was using nouveau as well.It's occurred to me that maybe somehow I've still got remnants of my nvidia-proprietary driver hanging around, but for the life of me, I can't think of anything else to do to get rid of them that I haven't already done, short of re-installing, that is, I've:
    - blacklisted the nvidia modules in rc.conf
    - reinstalled all my libgl related packages
    besides the obvious stuff like installing nouveau and removing the nvidia-lts package.
    Here's some more symptoms:
    Starting an "xterm" causes the terminal emulator to hang, the xterm never actually starts, nor is any error message displayed.  On the other hand "xeyes" works and so does urxvt, so I have no idea what's special about an "xterm" that makes it fail to start.
    Attempting to start the graphical version of emacs in KDE (it works fine in XFCE4 or if invoked with "-nw") causes an almost total lock up of X11, but I can VT switch, login kill emacs, and things return to the state the were in before I started emacs.
    This is actually a problem that I've had for some time, but a long time ago, KDE was  usable when using the proprietary Nvidia drivers, this was probably back when nvidia-lts 285.05.09-2 was the current driver; KDE is also reasonably usable if I use the VESA drivers, though these do not support the resolution of one of my monitors, so using them isn't a great solution for me.
    I've tried moving my .kde4 and .config files (so as to emulate starting from a blank slate), but my problems have persisted.  I"m almost certain that I've disabled desktop effects, I've got:

    In my .kwinrc; as I've mentioned, I can't open systemsettings to check there.
    Any help that could be given would be much appreciated.

    First of all,did your system worked properly ever, if so when it was? Because failing apps like amarok doesn't sound like a drivers issue. Are you familiar with Arch so we can be sure you did go through installation process properly i.e. xorg/mesa/ installation, X configuration (running nvidia-xconfig for nvidia systems) etc? Do you have some reason to run LTS kernel and nvidia? Maybe try regular kernel/nvidia packages? I didn't have problems with it on nvidia 7100 (still not quadro).
