Xorg crashes when suspending to ram using kernel 3.11-rc4

Just doing some testing with 3.11 (rc4) and I find that X crashes when doing a suspend to ram.  From my logs:
systemd-sleep[1558]: Suspending system...
kernel: PM: Syncing filesystems ... done.
kernel: PM: Preparing system for mem sleep
systemd-coredump[1561]: Process 929 (Xorg) dumped core.
This aborts the suspend but leaves me with no display and I have to hard reboot.  Suspend to ram works fine if just at the console (multi-user.target).  Also, using 3.10 works fine with the rest of the system the same.
Does anyone else see this?
I'm using xorg-server 1.14.2-2 and the Radeon driver with the following hardware:
$ lspci -s 01:00.0 -v
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Whistler [Radeon HD 6630M/6650M/6750M/7670M/7690M] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Apple Inc. MacBookPro8,2 [Core i7, 15", Late 2011]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 49
Memory at 90000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
Memory at b0800000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K]
I/O ports at 2000 [size=256]
Expansion ROM at b0820000 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon
I'm also after debugging tips.  How can I recover the core dump from systemd?  And how can I get debugging symbols without having to rebuild the binary?

I' using kernel 3.11rc4 with nVidia driver 325.08 that works very well, because system hang when resume from suspend with kernel 3.10.x and sometime kernel 3.9.x
My System:
M/B: ASRock A55 Pro3
CPU: AMD X4 651K
GPU: nVidia GTS 450
RAM: DDR3-1866 4G x 4

  • [Solved] Asus 1215N - Freeze, crash when Suspend or Normal Use

    Hello everyone,
I have installed Arch Linux i686 as always on my Asus 1215N. And, even before install any of the "problematic" applications needed for a full experience on this netbook, like acpi_call and bumblebee my pc start to became slow and then freeze just by using it, kernel panic at a random time, and something he doesn't Suspend/Reboot/Shutdown...
    There is my configuration :
    Asus 1215N - 2Gb Ram
    Arch Linux (Updated) i686
    Xfce 4.8 and Slim
    Kernel 3.1.1-1-ARCH
Here is an example of my /var/log/error.log when one of the problems appear :

Here is an example of my /var/log/kernel.log when one of the problems appear (This one is by using acpi_call):
    http://pastebin.com/FvNNxG3X
    Some usefull informations :
The problem doesn't seem to occur while using Gnome3 or Kde4.
My girlfriend as an Asus 1015HA (without Nvidia ION), and since the last kernel (?) update, she start to have the same problem using slim and openbox.
So I thinks this can be caused by Slim, ConsoleKit, DBUS or anything related to the Intel drivers... but it is just an opinion.
Thanks in Advance for the help (It is really boring I've even tought to come back to Ubuntu :S...)

The problem as been mysteriously solved by updating the kernel :S... Weird though...
I have checked the cpu temperature... very high only when the NVIDIA is activated... other than that it is a non-hot laptop ^^
    Thanks in Advance

since upgrading to mavericks my applications crash when i try to use the print dialogue

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Xorg crash when using konqueror, usually at random time

    Hi folks,
For some time I've been experiencing Xorg crashes while browsing with Konqueror. This happens on both Webkit and KHTML. I use latest Xorg (1.9.2), catalyst-hook from AUR (built yesterday), KDE (4.5.3), my arch is x86_64. I have Flash plugin installed. Dunno what else might be helpful.

Can't really find any trace of this in Xorg logs. Should I place a bug report on this somewhere or is it just something I might did?

I have the same problem after update, on my notebook (with ATI HD 4500 video card) and on my home PC (Intel video card).
The Xorg server just crashes randomly, after 5-10 minutes of work.
I may do nothing and it will crash anyway.
This happens only if I use xfce 4.8 desktop environment.
If I use gnome this does not happen.
    everything.log (notebook):
kdm[4468]: X server for display :1 terminated unexpectedly

It is interesting to see that these crashes happen as soon as the total memory used by Linux approaches/reaches my physical memory size of 2 GB. I should note that I have an SSD - so I do not use swap. With total memory used I mean memory that programs use plus cached memory, so my memory isn't actually "full" since the kernel could just free some cached memory to accommodate the memory Firefox needs. But this is not what happens: as soon as all of the memory is used, Xorg crashes in this scenario. I can prolong the time of crash by manually freeing the cached memory before, but again, as soon as the memory that "free -m" reports as used approaches my physical limit of 2 GB, I get a crash.
Note that this is not an OOM Killer issue. OOM Killer doesn't do anything (and it shouldn't: the cached memory is available to the system, after all).
I'm willing to test out any suggestions. My guess is that there is a bug in the intel driver but I rather be sure beforehand.

  • [SOLVED] Xorg crashes when I open OpenOffice and Gimp

Hello. I recently did a system upgrade, and then I tried unsuccessfully to install the printer drivers with hplip. the fact is that after these two steps (don't know what the cause of the two, but then I have removed hplip the dependencies) when I open OpenOffice (or LibreOffice, even doing the downgrade to OOo 3.2.1 does not start right) and Gimp Xorg crashes, and pixels are mixed, making the system unusable (i have to give ctrl-alt-canc). This is pacman.log of the last days:

  • Xorg crashes when gaming

    Hello
Xorg crashes systematically when I play such games as Supertuxkart, Supertux, 0ad, Ennemy-Territory, Pingus,... It does also the same with google-earth
I can start playing but after some time, I get a black screen, my keybord gets blocked and the only when out is to make a hard shutdown.
Stopping the computer "manually" has also the disadvantage that the Xorglog gets lost, so I cannot see what causes the problem.
I am using Arch x86_64 with the last nvidia driver (I have a GeForce GT320 card) and I have installed the lib32 packages that are going with the video drivers.
Any idea on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

I'm not an expert, but if only X crashed, you should be able to use REISUB https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Keyboard_Shortcuts
If you can't do even this, then it may be not just X, but the kernel.

  • Xorg crashes when Thunar views /tmp folder

After I upgraded to Xorg 1.16.0-6 yesterday and restarted, whenever I open Thunar and go to the /tmp folder, Xorg crashes and the system becomes completely unresponsive (for instance, the sound from banshee infinitely stutters on a single sample). I have to hard reboot the system to regain use. It doesn't appear to occur with any other folder, and removing the thumbnailer didn't help. Checking Xorg.0.log.old in /var/log shows it segfaults when this happens. I am using the Radeon open-source drivers with a Radeon HD 7310. (This occurs both with the standard Arch kernels as well as the -ck kernel I use most of the time).  Any suggestions?

I am using tmpfs for /tmp. I went to check /run/user/1000 which is also mounted with tmpfs, went to /run... and that also crashed it. Unfortunatly, REISUB is less than of use on a computer without a SysRq key or equivelent.
EDIT: /tmp is mounted tmpfs with nodev and nosuid. ls-ing it from a command prompt doesn't cause any issues.
If your system doesn't have a SysReq key then you hold Alt + Print Screen for each of the letters of REISUB with about a second or two between each letter.
Huh. I tried that after enabling it as specified both with and without Fn (it doesn't say Fn+PrtSc = SysRq, but no harm in trying) and it still didn't work.

  • Flash CS4 crashing when scrubbing playhead or using certain tools

I am currently having the unfortunate experience of learning Flash Pro as part of my degree program at school. I have been having a problem with the program crashing repeatedly. I have CS4 Web Premium, an educational discount edition, and am using it on an HP pc with an AMD Athlon and Nvidia v-card. I have had problems with it crashing on this computer when using tools such as the deco-tool and sometimes when transforming something. The real problem is when I try to use one of the Dell pc's at school to work on a file I have created at home on the HP. On 4 different machines at school Flash will crash when working on one of these files, especially when scrubbing the playhead on the timeline. The program will crash over and over, to the point where I can't really work on these files at school, which is a huge waste of time. I have heard of problems with corrupt fonts, and restoring preference files but also wanted to see if these problems sound familiar to anyone.

Thanks for your reply. I have the 10.0.2 Flash update on my pc, I'm not sure about the machines at school but I'm guessing they do as well. I also have 6gb of ram, and am running 64bit windows7. The pc's at school are new Dell's running widows7 and I would think they have at least 4gb of ram. I've attached a file that crashed when I scrubbed the playhead on the pc's at school. I don't have that problem at home. Thanks again for your help.

I would check a couple things - whether the Flash CS4 installations (the ones that crash) have been updated to 10.0.2, and secondly what the machine specs are (how much RAM). There were a number of issues (including crashing while scrubbing) that were worked on at great length for the updater.  If the updater has been installed and the machines have more than 2 gigs of ram, it would be great if you could link to a file that crashes while scrubbing so I can take a look.
    Thanks.

  • Xorg crashes when gamepads removed

I have a cheap off-brand PS2 (as in the system, not the old interface) gamepad to USB hookup I use for gaming. Recently, when I started plugging it in (hadn't used it for a while, no idea what update broke it) Xorg started crashing when I unplugged it. It works fine when plugged in, but Xorg immediately crashes back to the console (but doesn't close out, so I have to hard power the system) when I remove the controller. Mice and other devices work without problem, but my roommate's 360 USB controller also causes the problem.
Will provide more info if needed.

I'd just like to say I have the same issue, about to check in a minute or two if this fix works.
EDIT: Works. Isn't this in a core arch package, so might sneak back in? If that's the case, is there a more "proper" fix?
EDIT 2: A quick `pacman -Qo ...` says it's part of xorg-server. That could be a major pain. A proper fix is very welcome

  • InCopy crashes when adding a note using the Notes Palette

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this problem. Frequently InCopy (CS3 5.0.4) will crash when attempting to add a note from inside the notes palette.
Using the Notes Palette is not always the most efficient. With the curser placed where I want the note (outside a table, of course), the New note option will be grayed out. I then click through the notes already in place and navigate to my current location. After that, the New note option appears. (I would use the Note Tool as a rule, but it is very challenging to place the note right where I want it.)
I have noticed, that if I save right before attempting to add a note, InCopy will not crash. This may be supersition, however.
If this matters, the files I am editing come to me via InDesign as InCopy packages. I am on a new MacBook Pro with 4 GB ram.
I am just wondering if this is a known issue and if there is a fix in the works.
    Terry

I've not heard of any kind of issue like this but I can tell you that CS3 will not receive any further updates.
BTW, if you use the story or galley view, inserting a note is far easier.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to use DataLoad, and I was able to use this program a month ago.

In the recent past I have been able to use a program called DATALOAD (shareware) to load data into Firefox web forms (specifically web based sales tax returns).
However, now every time I try it now Firefox crashes, so I am forced to use IE (which I hate). The last time I used Dataload was in April 2011 (for my quarterly tax returns).
On of the latest updates to Firefox must have a conflict with this program.
Can you please research to see what changed in Firefox to make it crash when using Dataload? I do not want to use IE if I do not have to.

Hmmm, That is very odd. What is the link you are using? Are you logged
