XP doesn't work - ME does!!

have the following problem when connecting my 20G 4th Generation iPod. It was 1 week out of warranty (typical!!) when I noticed I couldn’t connect to my HP laptop with XP home edition and iTunes 7.
I get the message “iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted….” Restore and update don’t work and although explorer recognises the iPod if I select it explorer hangs.
I’ve tried connecting to other XP pc’s and the same thing happens. I went to my local Apple store and various assistants tried to solve the problem without success. Apple telephone support came up with some suggestions but couldn’t sort it either.
The saving grace was when I connected to my Windows ME desktop pc. It recognised the iPod, I could transfer files to and from it in explorer and by using free Yamipod software I have put most of the music back on it. However as iTunes doesn’t work on ME I can’t put the music I’ve downloaded from iTunes on the iPod unless I burn cd’s and re-import them. I want to upgrade the old creaking and groaning ME pc but am reluctant to do so ‘cos I’ll never be able to connect to my iPod again. Any ideas??

I do not understand the reason behind, but I am interesting to know what would happen if you connect your iPod back with the XP computer.
Would you get the same error message?
Thats why I always suggest user to fix their problem ipod with another computer of different OS. Regarding why it did not get recognized on a Mac, which is a suprise to me, it could be just an overlook by the person in the apple shop (I am sorry to say so). Did he/she put your iPod into disk mode before the connection?

    Specifically, you will want to take note of this section:
    The headphones don't work
    If your iPod's headphones don't work or have static or garbled audio, try connecting them to any other 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, like the one on your computer. If the issue with the headphones persists, replace them. For an iPod under warranty, you can order a replacement online. Otherwise, check out the cool headphones at the Apple Online Store. If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.

    Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
    If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
    Install the App from the App Store.
    Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

    One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
    iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

    That definitely seems odd. Since it works fine with Entourage, that would indicate the server is working properly. Additionally, I've tested the SMTP server from here (on a Mac) and am able to connect. I do not have a valid user to send email with, but I can try it if you want to provide me with the one you are trying, temporarily.

    Your server only supports CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN authentication. You will need to use plain text authentication. I have never configured mac mail so I do not know how to configure this, you may want to speak with someone a apple support if you have trouble.

    Many Thanks for the reply, Maybe l didn't word it correctly as l've been searching for days now for a solution,sorry, but l have just found out while watching tutorials on a education program that you can actual edit each frame in a video in Photoshop by importing the video into it. In these tutorials they said you have to download Quicktime 7.1 or later in order for this to work and then you can go through every frame of your video and change it, draw on it, do mainly anything you what, basically what you can do on a photo you can do with a video. It works with one of my AVI,files but not on any of my others or on any of my MOV. files. l just get a white screen the video is there in the AVI but l can't get MOV. to import. In AVI format it shows no pictures but it is there in the time/animation dilation and l was wondering does anyone know if l need to upload a new codec for it to work or have to switch or activate something for it to work on quicktime......but l have found others with the same problem but there all say upload a new codec but which??
    any help would be really appreciated

    (If your wondering how too try changing your workspace from ESSENTIALS to VIDEO the icon is in the right hand corner near the close down button in Photoshop and double click on the grey interface (a photo uploads) to get to upload your videos from files then you should be able to upload from there....Import in the file menu doesn't work...hope this helps you. If it works for you then l must be going wrong somewhere....enjoy:)

  • Every 10 minutes - mail doesn't work - it does this...

    starts to send... I see the circle trying to send - then I get a pop-up saying I need to verify my password associated with my main email server. I enter the password and nothing happens.
    then after 5 minutes of it doing that, another pop-up saying I need to try with the selected alternate email server - and it's my regular server again - sometimes it sends, sometimes it doesn't. this started 3 days ago when I did an update on my Itunes (?).
    any help?

    Does my problem has anything to do with SSL for mail settings? Cause when I tried re-adding it says something that I should try without SSL, and I did what you said and it gives me this "The IMAP server pop.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field". Ahh.. this is so annoying, Apple what are you doing to me?! Or is Yahoo doing this to me?!

    Why ?

    Audio through a dock connection is at line level, also called line out.  Line level volume is not adjustable.  You need to change the volume using the controls on the iHome device, or its remote.

    If it's the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
    If it's all apps including Apple's then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Firefox: YouTube doesn't work, neither does Hotmail. What's wrong????

    I used to love my Firefox but lately it has become one big head ache. I have v3.6 since I had heard so many complaints about V4, and am always afraid to lose my beloved add ons (Sxipper, Morning Coffee) when I update. These are the things that make my daily life easier. Sxipper should be adopted by you guys since they are being faced out and is the best password option ever.
    Anyway, neither YouTube or Hotmail work on FF anymore. So am now being forced to use IE or Chrome, but I would love to keep my FF. None of the solutions offered for either problem have helped me.

    I have the same problem.  Actually, it started when I switched the language on my iPhone to Spanish.  Because Siri doesn't work in Spanish, I switched back to English.  But the dictionary now is a mess.  So, I reset the dictionary, but that didn't help.  I tried restoring my iPhone but that didn't help either, I assume because when I restored, it picked up the bad dictionary.  I can't restore to an earlier date because I can't lose me texts.  But I am surprised that resetting the dictionary had no effect whatsoever.

    At my wits end. iPhone 5, OS 7.1.1, using Outlook as mail, contacts and calendar but unable to find a solution to sync everything. I have my own domain and use a small ISP. It's not an Exchange server account. I've trawled countless forums but to no avail. Can anyone help? Steve. 

    Mavericks doesn't sync contacts or calendar via iTunes anymore. Apple removed 'sync services' so Outlook doesn't have the sync engine to move data between iOS & the Mac. It will still work on iTunes 11 on earlier OS X's.
    On 10.9 you can either use iCloud, setup your own contacts & calendar server (OS X server, Biakal, Owncloud & many others) or you can find another online service to use to sync data, like Google apps.

  • Phone doesn't work - broadband does

    Hi,
    Odd problem I'm having with my phone line, which has very recently (end of august) been installed as I'm living in a new house and it was wired for the first time. Broadband works fine, and I recall when the guy came to install it he said he get a dialtone. I cannot get a dialtone off any phone (admittedly I don't have a cordless phone, but I've got two cordless ones and neither work, one I literally brought yesterday so I see it very unlikely that they're both faulty.). The strange thing is that when I phone my number from say my mobile, it rings!
    There's only one socket in the house and I've tried unplugging the broadband, not using the microfilter and plugging straight into the socket. Also tried into the inside socket bit of the master socket.
    I don't want to get an engineer out if it is the phones, but really, two phones not working? Neither of them working on just the socket? Internet working perfectly, AND the phone ringing (which I think is the strangest thing)? Seems a little too odd to just be 'oh, your equipment is faulty'.
    But, hey, I'm a programmer, not an engineer, and you guys are the experts, hence asking you! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi If you have connected a phone to the test socket and the dial tone is not there then the responsibility of repair is that of BT thee ring tone is generated at the exchange and infact broadband will function although not at its best speed with only one wire of the pair connected so it does need openreach intervention to resole

    I have tried to upgrade my intel 802.11bg WLAN but on te setup there is a message : file not found "setupWLD.ini" and setup is aborted!
    My Wlan does not find my wireless accesspoint, I have to use an USB WLAN to get access! (SITECOM WL 114)

    Its seems that is a problem with the installation. Maybe you installed a wrong driver?
    I found two different wireless drivers for this unit.
    1.)Intel Windows XP 9.0.1.9
    2.)InProComm Windows XP 3.03.11.20041.3.5
    Im not 100% sure which driver works properly but you can try to install the Intel driver and after the InProComm.

  • FTP doesn't work, SFTP does work .... ?

    This is odd.
    I previously had authenticated users be able to log into their home folder using FTP, but this doesn't seem to work anymore (no settings were changed).
    But if the client uses SFTP, it logs in fine.
    I'm stumped! Previously it worked fine via FTP/SFTP, and now only SFTP.
    Anyone have a similar problem? Any help would be great!

    Oh, but it can.
    SFTP runs as a subsystem to SSH.
    If you check /etc/sshd_config you'll find a line near the end:
    <pre class=command>Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/sftp-server</pre>
    If you want to run SSH, but not SFTP, comment out this line.
