XP drains battery power quicker than it can charge?

Started up XP via bootcamp on my Macbook Pro with with charger plugged in. It was green when i started and battery at 100% when after 10 minutes or so the charge indicator turned orange and battery showed 98%. Anyone else have this problem and know how to solve it?
By the way, I wasn't doing anything graphic intensive nor CPU intensive.

Your using more energy to play WOW and there isn't any to charge the battery.
You do have a overly unnecessary, power hungry, excessively  high resolution screen with a bloated OS X version and your also playing 3D games on it, that's what you should expect to occur.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset

    Backing up, Updating and Restoring

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • IPAD 2 loses battery Power Quickly

Problem 1:  Within the last few weeks, my Ipad 2 loses battery power even when its powered down I've tried both closing the cover and using the main swithch  on the top right.  In all cases, I can start out at 100% and within a couple of hours be down to 85% after using it once and either closing the cover or pushing the switch.  Its as if something is still running.  I looked at the processes with all my apps off and didn't see any surprises .  I have processes 9424 dataccessd, 9412 ptpd, 6581 AdSheet~ipad, and 1340 iapd as well as a dozen or so process with numbers in the double digits from 49 on down.  It took me 9 hours last night to bring my pad from 20% to 100%.
Problem 2: I recently rented a movie from Itunes and tried to play it through my HDMI interface on my TV using the appropriate apple interface cords.  It started to play then I got a message that told me that the device I was trying to play the movie on wasn't authorized for protected media even though I had no trouble playing it on my ipad.?????What's with that?

    There is no "4S software".
    All iPhones run iOS.
There are dozens of versions of iOS.  Which version is your device on?

  • HT4528 I have no battery life in my iphone 5 since the iOS 7 upgrade.  I have completed all suggestions to help increase the battery power and now I can't use my phone more than 4 hours without the battery dying. What is the solution?

I have no batter in my iphone 5 since upgrading to ios7.  I have talked with verizon techinical support and completed all suggestions to maintain the battery. And by the way, these suggestions are annoying and limit phone use as well as require you to close out each application after use, also turning off wi-fi and blue tooth. I don't need this phone if I can't use the features for which it was purchased! Any ideas?  Is there a fix coming soon for the battery? Can I return my iphone for my old droid?
    Help!

Hi! I don't what's happened for your phone but, you can have more battery life with turning of Wifi, decries brightness, turn off location service and etc. also you shold use less Free+Much Ads apps becuase they use more battery than paid apps normaly.
for more informations about battery normal life see here.
I guess it's not a normal issue. so connect to Apple Care or wait for a better answer...

  • Why my Iphone 4S battery dead quicker than others!

    Hello guys:
At the start i have to say i am a Janpanese guy which means what i say may have some mistacks. Please dont pick on me.
I bought an iphone 4s 4 days ago. I find out my phone  only need charge 3 hours at the first time and was up to 100 percent, I took it off and used for 4 and 26min on 3G Internet and 14 hours standby times and it is complete dead. I did follow the battery docter this program turned off applications that waste battery time. Such as wifi iclound sifri and i put my phone brightness at about 1/3.
Second day i charged my phone for 6 hours and it is the same! Eventhough i put at standby it still use the battery.
What can i do for this?
I check some people said restore the system might help and i am doing now, is that ok? Or is that have something that i can do about?
    Thank you for everyone.

iOS 5 have so many things that can do that. Wifi conections, GPS, Ping, Push mail...
My advice is that you use that things only when you have to use them. I calculated that mi iPhone 4S can be 100h in stand by without wifi, GPS, Push mail and turning of the game center.
I think that batteries are not ready for the tecnology of this time.

  • Is it just me, or is my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 losing battery power quicker

Before iOS update the ipad 2 and iphone 4s made it through the entire day. After updating to iOS 6, my devices hardly make it through the whole day. iPhone makes it half way through the day and the iPad just barely makes it. I never have the location on or bluetooth. WIFI is sometimes, but thats not the point. It always made it through the day, always. That's why I got the phone. I've used the iphones since 2007 and Apple knows it. This is the worst I've seen it, and I am losing my likes for this phone. I am not going to buy the iPhone 5 to solve the problem.

My 1 month old IPAD 2 (Christmas for my wife & I) Wifi worked fine before I had to go out of town just after upgrading to 5.  Bought a Verizon MiFi 4G LTE wifi hot spot while out of town, really nice with really great data rates.
Then I came home to the apartment.  Ipad worked fine last night, while updating my magazines, surfing, reading and playing some games.  But this morning WiFi is in and out like a yo-yo.  I have 10-30 second cycle on ALL Wifi transmitters I have access to in the building.  I cannot get one to lock on but for very short periods if at all.  (Wife is not going to like this when she gets home.)
Have even reset all my wifi settings on my router and my MiFi.  Cannot even link into an unsecured Linksys someone has in the building.  Unsat being tethered to my computer or diddling on my smartphone.
Believe this is a software/antenna coordinatation issue.  The selectivity between the signals (b/g/n & unsecured) is not being bracketed and locked onto.
APPLE:  Listen, this is NOT a router problem folks, although, as suggested in other posts, you might want to isolate to g or n to make the signal easier to lock on.  The WEP/WPA could be a problem with the selectivity being toughter when you use the higher encryption (WPA/WPA2).  One post who was desperate shifted to WEP (128-Bit) encryption.
Apple really should hire some decent antenna engineers, then match them up with the software folks.  This really should NOT be happening.  My unit has not been dropped or mishandled in any way, although it should be mildly ruggedized if United Air Line pilots are using them for enroute charts.
Will go to a WiFi isolated area where I can try my MiFi 4G wifi hotspot in an uncluttered EM environment and post my findings.  If this is not a structural problem, my guess is it will work.
Steve J.  would not be happy with the Apple Wifi H/W-S/W coordination.  Let's get this issue resovled.

  • Does anyone else think that the new update 5.1.1 drains battery life faster than 5.1?

I charged my phone to 100% last night and unpluged it last night before going to bed. 10 hours later, when I got up, my battery had went down all the way to 68% and with no apps running in the background... All while my iPhone's currently running on IOS 5.1.1. I never had this problem with IOS 5.1, when the battery would only drop to around 97% overnight.
    Anyone else having this problem?

With Phone, Messages, and Setting apps active and
Celllular data enabled, my AT&T 64 gig, 4S drops about 4-5%
overnight.  Which is about what it was with 5.1.
So, I personally have seen no change in battery performance
and when using the phone I haven't seen any difference either.

I submit that rbylawski was giving you an explanation provided by Apple and I further submit that Apple knows more about their batteries than you do.  In a nutshell, your battery explanations are 100% incorrect and we would appreciate it if you did not spread misinformation.

  • Satellite A200-1M8 - battery loose power quickly

    Hi
Please I need help... I have got Toshiba Satellite A200-1m8.
Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP3.
I noticed that the Wireless connection, running the laptop on battery power, drops and sometimes doesn't connect but plugging the power back to Normal power it easily does
I searched for similar issues and found that Intel for wireless devices does this to save battery power. I followed the instructions I found, and Wi-Fi worked well by increasing the power management in the Wi-Fi device settings ,but the main problem here is when I increase power management ,running the laptop on batteries, the computer seemingly to lose battery power quickly.
Should I change the deficient part by the manufacturer or what to do .......??
    Thanks.

Hi again bro Horwath and sorry for being late.
Actually i'm still not sure/precise about testing the battery power while knowing what is running on the background. It is somehow confusing to keep on watching precisely.
Anyway here is what i came up with:
But before that the toshiba power saver settings that i use on battery is 3/4 towards the high preformance ( less long battery life ).
(every thing is the same as the default battery power profile except those: no hibernation..no system standby.. no Hdd power off and monitor off in 30 minutes)
    first test:
the overall battery useage seemed to last between 1:20 or 1:30 hours.
running internet explorer with 3 to 4 websites in the same window....winmap....and [2 msn messenger (background) ]
it seemed that i lost 2% within 2 to 3 minutes ( but i still feel it is rapid ).... then leaving the computer idle seemed to have lost like 1% within 3 to 4 minutes.
    second test:
The overall battery useage also seemed to last between 1:20 or 1:30 mintues.
i was running adobe photoshop for some minutes .....[ with msn messnger ( background ) ]
consumed like 60% of the battery power whithin like 40 minutes...
and the rest was left to the computer being idle just running 2 msn messnger on the background and consuming 40% within 30 to 35 minutes.
I also noticed that battery consumes 2% quickly on computer usage or apparently on _wireless internet usage_
Those are what i noticed, but still not sure 100%.
Anyway besides that my battery should last for 2 hours as i saw in some websites for this toshiba model .
In addition, why shouldn't the wireless device run normally like on any other computer on the default/normal level of power management so that i can have the normal battery power life.
Sorry for the complications in here :S.
    thanks.

  • Adobe CC using excessive battery power

I updated to the latest version today. Now I see this:
This is a feature of Mac OS X that figures out which apps are consuming a lot of battery power.
As you can see CC has made the list while for example Dropbox has not.
It didn't use to be on the list. I think its new for the latest version but I'm not entirely sure.
Could it have anything to do with your latest improvements to sync reliability.
Here is it is the the Activity Monitor's energy tab. As you can see it takes quite a lot of energy.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface When you think the laptop is powered off it's actually in ACPI Power State S5 with power being supplied to the power button and some of the USB sockets. So, when you shut down the laptop and then removed the power cord, if the BIOS version was lower than 1.13, the laptop was still draining the battery.I followed your suggestion, and it seems solving the problem, thank you. However, another problem arises just recently. When I was playing a game on my laptop, the battery capacity is decreasing when the AC power connected (as described by both lenovo and Windows battery gauge). I post this problem in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/ThinkPad-E455-Battery-Capacity-Reduced-When-Connected-to-AC/td-p/2106218. Oddly, the problem (seems) does not occur when I quit the game to windows. Why was this happen?

  • If a power cord shorts out, can it affect my Macbook Pro?

I have my 2009 macbook pro 13" plugged in, then suddenly it turns itself off and needs to be restarted using the power button, and when it shuts down, the power cord seems to 'die' too. I think the power cord might be shorting out. Could this be? Could it possibly be a completely unrelated occurrence, where the cord dies and the computer separately spontaneously shuts off (perhaps the battery is dying)? No warning pops up or anything, there is just a tiny 'pop' sound and the screen goes black. I must then use the power button to turn it back on. When I turn the computer back on, the clock is set back to some time in 2000 and wifi is knocked out. But if I put the computer in sleep mode, close the lid, then open it, it reconnects to airport with no problem, and sometimes the light on the power cord will turn back on. I haven't been able to find a similar issue anywhere.
Some more background: the computer, when turned on and for example using Google Chrome and TextEdit, and these 2 applications only, the battery power quickly deteriorates. In addition, whereas the battery used to deteriorate down to the single digit percentages, it now tends to die at about anywhere from 10-30% battery life reading. This is where I am getting the idea my battery may be going bad. This is my 3rd or 4th power cord in 5 years.

This cord has not been wrapped or stored in damaging ways, I always circle it up, never use the little ears to wind the thinner cord on the A/C adaptor block because this has been shown to have problems, plus the cord gets all kinked up. I am as delicate as possible with my cords now because my previous ones have been damaged from wrapping/other technical issues (the first, which came with my Mac in '09, was the old 't' style and frayed from factory defect, the second stopped working after about 2 years so I was told it was probably due to age, the third stopped working spontaneously back in July of this year due to unknown causes, and this newly purchased one has been treated as described above, very delicately, wrapped in loose circles and placed in a padded carrying case). The cord was plugged into a surge protector when the issue occurred, at the home of a friend (not in my own home), when the issue began to occur.
Apple charges $80 for a subpar product that has time and time again failed for various and differing reasons, but they don't change anything because it makes them money when you have to keep buying new power supply cords every 6 months to a year or shorter. I have never had this particular problem where the cord overheats and shuts down my computer. I purchase from Best Buy because I can't afford to wait for 6 weeks while Apple ships new product, nor can I afford to pay extra for shipping. The nearest Apple store is an hour from my house, otherwise I'd go straight there and have my computer and cord diagnosed.
I am pretty sure the computer battery itself is dying, as well, as the unit is 5 years old.
I found it strange that no one else I could find had ever documented this same problem occurring.
Thanks for your time and advice.

  • 100% to almost 60% battery in less than 1 hour - normal ??

I have had an iPhone4 since a little after they came out.  I am such a light user of the phone that I have never had to worry about the battery, and even when I am taking pictures making calls I don't even remember ever getting below 60%.  I charged the phone every day and mostly kept it on whatever charger was closest to me.
Now, I have upgraded to an iPhone5 for Siri, the Maps, the better camera and sound, image stabilization, nicer display, etc.
The other day I was pretty excited about trying out my new phone's maps, so I took about an hour drive to meet my girlfriend after work, and we went to see a movie.  The phone was 100% charged when I left.
I had GPS going I guess with the maps, no other apps going or in the background, but I did have music playing through the headphone back to my car stereo.
I was blown away that when I got to my destination and the next time I looked at my iPhone it was about 60% charge.  I estimate it was about an hour or continual use like that.  Do maps/GPS use a lot more power than normal?
Is this normal?  Do I have a problem?  Are there things I can do to cut down on power usage?  I already have the screen about as low as I can set it and still be able to see it.  Any FAQs on this issue?

Thanks woodmeister ... that's kind of the conclusion I came to.
the first thing I did was to buy one of those expensive little power adapters so I can charge my phone while I am driving ... which I guess does not help me if I am riding my bike?
While my iPhone does not really discharge so much it does not seem like the phone charges much either, which leads me to think there is a problem.
My iPhone is only about a week old so it is not one of the early ones.  I just do not know if this is normal?
Do you know if Apple has some concrete way to measure the iPhone battery to some standard they set?

  • Random drop in battery power, plus sudden shutdown!!!

I recently posted a topic regarding my battery losing power quickly. You can view it here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1184841&tstart=0
Tonight I was using my computer and saw it was down to 35% battery. Literally as I was reaching for the cord to plug it in, it went to sleep. It finally turned on again once I plugged it in, but said that the battery was at 0%. Right now it is at 4% and climbing steadily. What the heck happened?

You might want to rethink your battery use. From 8-1-2006 to 10-21-2007 is 447 days. From your cycle count you charged it 458 times. A cycle charge equals one full charge. A full charge is counted from the battery level when the computer shuts down to full charge. If you don't need to run off battery you shouldn't. It is Ok to run off the MagSafe adapter most of the time. I only run my battery completely flat once every two months. The rest of the time I just use it and don't worry about the level. I just plug it in as soon as I can get back to my supply. I have had this battery about 5 months and have 12 cycles on it.
I think you will need to get a new battery. You might want to look at these, http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?cPath=10_4&productsid=151 , and save a little money.
Any battery has a finite number of cycles in it before you have to replace. Apple says theirs should be at 80% at 300 Cycles. You may be able to stretch your batteries life out by calibrating and using your battery a little differently. But as I said it may not help a lot.
