  • IdeaPad U550 touchpad frezes after 1 minute from start up

After 1 year of using my IdeaPad U550 without a problem, I experienced the folowing problem: touchpad is freezing after about 1 minute from power on. Also if i want to use an external mouse the same thing happens. I tried using the OneKey Rescue system option to return to the original factory status but I couldn't because the mouse isn't working.
I noticed that the 1 minute window of using the mouse is no longer available if I do a quick restart. I had to power off for a couple of hours to make the mouse work again for 1 minute.
Please help me solve the problem!

try to un-install drivers, restart your computer and let windows install the drivers automatically.
by the way, usb devices working properly except external mouse?

  • IdeaPad U550 WLAN-Karte wechseln

  • U550 - Windows 7 - 0x000000A5 BSOD with 1Gb RAM

A friend of mine asked me to install Windows 7 on her IdeaPad U550. So I did. Everything worked at first. But after installing drivers and some software, I started getting BSODs on widows startup:
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. 0x000000A5 (0x00001000, 0x00000000, 0x55AA55AA, 0xFFFF0091)
I tried reinstalling windows 7, but windows setup fails with the same BSOD message.
Some further experimentation has brought me to the following conclusions:
    1) the laptop works fine with a 1Gb memory module installed.
    2) the laptop doesn't work with more then 1Gb RAM installed (U550's shipped with one 1Gb and one 2Gb modules installed)
    3) the problem isn't in the installed OS (DVD booted windows setup also fails)
    4) both RAM moduls are working properly (tested them on my other laptop)
    5) both RAM slots are working properly (windows starts with 1Gb RAM module in either one of them)
    6) there're no BIOS updates for Lenovo IdeaPad U550.
There IS however some kind of problem with the battery. There's a notification in systray recommending to replace it. Taking the battery out or placing it back in doesn't seem to make any difference in regard to BSODs.
So, my best theory at the time is this: the battery (and/or it's absence)  somehow causes the ACPI-related errors. Now, that sounds kind of stupid to me, and I can't just ask my friend to buy a new battery if I'm not even sure it's gonna fix the problem. That's why I need your help, guys. Any help is appreciated.

Well I deleted the VM and re-created it, and reloaded Windows and all my software, works fine now.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • U550 annoying cpu fan on new computer! help!

    hey,
    i'm a little desprate about it, today i've bought a new notebook call Ideapad u550-2958 (T6600, 4 giga-ram, 500gb nvidia 210m).
I opened up my computer and started to work, but i've notice that my notebook cpu fan is acting very strange, even though i didn't do anything that count "heavy" the cpu fan worked in high speed for a short duration and then go silent again (but! only for 3 secnods) and then started again. the odd thing is that i'm just on the web and fill like my mom using a giagentic vacuum cleaner.
    So my qusetion is :
this is how u500 cpu fan should work? or you think that it's a technical problem.
i read about similar problem with the a s10 this is the same case
    thank you,
    eldad

i have the same problem with an U450p.
Measuring the temperature with CoreTemp i found out that the fan in my notebook turns on and off at 35°C (which is far too low). Because it is the same temperature for on and off, the fan is only running for a couple of seconds, turns off for a couple of seconds and turns an again and so on...
I did not find a solution yet and the telephone support line told me to send it in. I believe this can only be fixed by releasing a new BIOS, but I will send it to Lenovo anyway, as soon as I don't need it for  a while (I am going to holiday in february).
The new BIOS should turn on the fan at 55°C or so, keep it on at low speed until reaching 45°C. Only for temperatures above 60°C the fan should run at full speed I think.

  • How wide is the T500 Enhanced Experience Rollout?

I was an inch from buying a new T500 with Windows 7 and the Lenovo EE when I discovered the only listed T500 with EE was the 22428SU.  I really wanted the T500 2081 with EE, but my doubts are settling in that I'll have find a Lenovo laptop with the features I want.
My real dream would be a T400s with the graphics power of a T500 2081, but that also looks doubtful.  I've been a fan of IBM Thinkpads for years but could never really afford a laptop as a student.  Now I'm finally realizing I need a laptop, but the Thinkpad lineup is an inch from my desires under and model line-up.  I really want this:
1440x900 resolution w/LED (anything less is too small and more is too slow)
Top-100 graphics chip, 128-bit (T400's ATI chip is too slow for my needs, T500 is perfect but no 1440x900 screen)
    P9500 processor
    4gb of memory
    Bluetooth, Wireless
9-cell battery (or something with a 6 to 8-hour battery life under light use, 4-hours under heavy use)
    Multi-touch, if available
The T500 comes very close to these specifications, but doesn't have the screen resolution.  When I heard that EE was coming with Windows 7, I thought I might finally have found a match I can tolerate.  I thought I could tolerate the 1280x800 LED screen and lack of multi-touch if they offered EE on the 2081, but it appears that only the IdeaPad U550 374955U has enhanced graphics and EE.  And frankly, I don't care for the IdeaPads.
Can you tell me if Lenovo intends to roll out their Win7 EE to all their laptops or is it an exclusive set of models?  Will we see a Thinkpad with ATI graphics and EE?  I've been sitting on this purchase for a year now hoping I'd see something I like in Thinkpad, but I loath settling for something less than what I need.  Am I going to see the Thinkpad I need, or will I have to settle for a different brand?

Give it a few weeks. I'm sure they had to do a standard package to be ready for Win 7 ship date. The CTO models will show with Win 7 at some point.

  • Ideapad z710 wifi drivers isues

Hi guys, i just installed Arch on my brand new Lenovo ideapad Z710 yesterday. Today i decided to install NetworkManager (i was using a netctl profile until now) the problem is that when i try to connect to wifi, Network Manager keeps prompting me for the password and never actually connects, i think the problem is with my wireless drivers, cause when i plugged in a wifi adaptor other than the laptop's built in one everything worked like a charm and ethernet also works fine.

Well, I installed Bodhi-Linux which is a derivate of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
    For info:
When I switched to console, I noticed that tty4 is not possible to be accessed. In Midnight Commander (it's a small prog, like Norton Commander, for the terminal) F4 will call the nano-editor, this does not work. It's a bios bug, I think the scan code can be remapped.
Bumblebee is for using the Intel-graphics and the Nvidia-graphics, my Z710 has got Optimus. On Bodhi this works, but after reboot the bumblebee daemon have to be started by root in a terminal. Surely a modul problem, could be solved by blacklisting some modules.
Secured Boot is an option for the UEFI-system (booting) which only allows certified bootloader to be booted. A few distros could handle this by using "shim".
I will go with KALI-Linux (debian based), because of the newer kernel, 3.12.x instad of 3.8.x.

  • Ideapad Y450 - Vista to Windows 7 upgrade comedy routine

I've looked for information on how to upgrade my y450 (Vista) to Windows 7 but have been unable to find what i am looking for. The lenovo page for Ideapad windows 7 information is a dead link.
What are the steps to install windows 7 on the laptop? The issue here is the app 'one key recovery'. How do I install it so this software will restore to windows 7?
To be honest this website is a trainwreck: dead links, wildly different urls and formatting, and no clear information for customers. I am eligible for the upgrade DVD I have seen mentioned (I think), but am not prepared to go through the ordeal of shipping. Couldn't Lenovo provide us all with information how to deal with this? I would have thought there should be a FAQ for Y series customers wishing to upgrade but I have not found one.
    1. Please advise how to install windows 7 so that I don't have a redundant vista on the HD for recovery. Step-by-step would help as Lenovo have non-standardised the installation with their one-key bloat. I've seen conflicting walkthroughs from randomly confused customers.
    2. Please provide a link for a support package for Y450 users that gives all the  Win7 drivers needed for the massive bloat they force on their customers (one key recovery/dolby buttons/comedy slide functions). Or we have to manually look for each driver?
    3. Please explain how users of computers shipped with Vista can upgrade successfully to Windows 7. (Yes with one key recovery etc working). The goal is to have a fully working computer - not some compromised hybrid of vista and 7. One-key is absolutely useless and an insult if we can't revert to Win7 rather than Vista.
    4. I've seen mention of a mythical CD Lenovo provided for those who had laptops with VIsta shipped in error. Can we *all* not get this software so we can have working systems?
If this information is there and I've missed it I'm sorry. I've spent over an hour looking with no results. Seeing as the first laptop I received had been repartitioned and used by salesmen, and the second shipped with a blown speaker, I'm not too impressed. I've also no idea why my laptop has vista on it rather than windows 7.  - I bought this laptop a week ago.
I hope you can point out that this is all my mistake and that the information is out there. At least then I can get on with things. If they hadn't bothered with one-key recovery (a 'feature' that puts more people off buying the laptop than encourages them to buy it) they would have saved on R&D and made a more successful product. You have to ask yourself wtf they were thinking on this one.
    Please advise.
EDIT : It appears that this recovery system is not supported in Windows 7 (please confirm). If this is the case then do I simply format C and install Win7? I have heard about 'hidden partitions'. Is this hidden recovery partition on C drive and will it be erased by a simple Win7 installation (by following basic installation wizard)?
I just want a clean installation of Windows 7 with no lingering partitions and unused data (namely vista image).
1/ Do i just insert win7 dvd and install with no issues? 2/ Please link driver pack for y450 vista users upgrading to Win7.
    TY.
    Solved!

Has anyone on this forum installed Win7 on their Ideadpad and got onekey to restore to Windows7? What steps did they take to do this?
I'm strictly a ThinkPad user and have never seen an IdeaPad, so I don't have the answers to your questions.  However, in this thread down in the Win 7 board, someone said they had gotten it to work with the RC candidate last summer.

  • IdeaPad Yoga Windows 8.1 OnScreen keyboard does not stay open

    hi
I just bought a new ideapad yoga and upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1. Unfortunately, I can't open the onscreen keyboard. After it opens, it immediately closes itself. This problem has also been described here, but wasn't solved:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-tms/ideapad-yoga-13-virtual-keyboard-does...
Is this a known issue? Does this have anything todo with drivers? - What can I do about it?
    Thank you!

Anyone got some tips? How can I contact the Lenovo support otherwise?
I am thinking of selling my Lenovo and buying another (definitely non-Lenovo) device. They always have troubles with their drivers (and have poor support)!! Something like that never happened to my Dell notebooks.
    Thanks.
