XP dying, going crazy, and corrupting data when network is out

Here's my setup:
Airport extreme main -> airport extreme remote -> imac intel core2duo -> parallels -> Windows XP Service pack 2
Connected to the imac is a Fax 2850 Brother.
bonjour installed on XP
Print sharing enabled on the same mac.
When the network is on - I can print to the fax from XP very well - works like a charm I was singing Apples praises ("they even make windows easier" and so on).
However, the remote base station dropped out. I went to print not noticing this. it took 3 minutes for the print dialogue to come up. I cancelled it realising something was wrong. When I restarted windows, the app I was working in was stuffed - all the data was damaged, I had to restore from a backup which thank god I did just a couple of hours earlier. saved my life.
What REALLY concerns me though is exactly why this happened - I have two unexplained and possible unconnected or connected as the case may be anomalies that happened:
1. the base station dropped out. I have another remote on the opposite side of the main station - it did not drop out. I got it back by resetting the main station - the remote picked up again and is now online.
2. windows went bezerk.
Anyone know anything about this - had any experience. I think it's probably reasonably safe to say the printer driver / model itself is probably unrelated- and this could happen with any printer.
Am I better off getting an express point just for the printer so I can print to it reliably from both windows and the mac without getting printer jams and so on - or does using the express usb printer configuration with bonjour still rely on the mac to process the print queue? What's the story there? Basically the Mac works perfectly it's fantastic, but windows poops it's pants when the printer isn't online... ? Or am I off base there? Anyway need help as this set up has to be as reliable as possible - so whatever that means I have to do that even if it means getting a dedicated windows printer.

Clear Safari, close all apps on the iPad and reboot. Then see if you can connect.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to each app then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you still can't connect to the internet, you need to do some more troubleshooting with the network connection, but report back with more details if that doesn't work and don't just repeat the question in the text box are that you have to describe the problem. That serves no purpose at all.

Google Maps going crazy and allignment problem

Help - I have got a site - www.elitepolefitness.co.uk which I have uploaded with Fetch (I have my own hosting) the embedded Google map is going crazy and the address is dark grey and left alligned instead of light grey and centered. When I upload the files to Fetch and preview site through there, its perfect. Please help!

Problem solved - I moved the files to different place - onto my Mac HD rather than my external HD. This is a massive pain though, I don't want to store all my websites on my Mac HD. Please try and fix this problem soon.
Could you advise on the next update/new features?

Your System Details are showing Fun Web Products. Suggest you look in Add-ons - Extensions and Plug-ins, and Control Panel>Add/Remove programs or >(newer version) Programs and Features. You could also do a search of your computer.
Fun Web Products(associated with MyWebSearch) always seems to cause problems, Alexa does, too, but less often - there may be conflicts.
I'm not an expert on these two products. I'm afraid I can only alert you to the problems. Google will show you plenty of evidence of problems. You might also try the Search Firefox Help box above - a gold mine but it usually requires a lot of digging.
You can start Firefox in Safe Mode - Hold Shift Key down as you double click on the Firefox icon>ignore the page that opens>Continue. If that improves things you could do a little troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic extensions etc), use default theme, -

I127 equals a check box. The formula retuns a value of the current date and time when a check is placed in the box. How does one lock that date and time so that it cannot be changed?

I don't think it is possible to lock in the date and time using a formula. You could put NOW() in a cell, copy, and Edit Paste Formula Results where you want the result.
Or if you are "time stamping" a lot, you may find this Automator Service (Dropbox download) helpful. It puts a "Today" function (actually it should be named "Now" because it includes both date and time) in your Services menu like this:
Just doubleclick the .workflow package to install it. You may have to click "download anyway" in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.

Scroll bar goes crazy and active window jumps around in size - Help

I've got iTunes 7.0.5 installed. If I use iTunes for any length of time, my system goes crazy. The scroll bar on whatever program I make active goes up and down like mad, while the content of the active window shrinks and magnifies in size multiple times a second. It's very bizarre and consistently happens only when I run iTunes for some length of time. I have no problem if I choose Windows Media Player. It's very disturbing, as I can no longer use iTunes. Any help in knowing how to fix the problem, or even to trouble shoot it further, would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of thoughts on the Timeline scrolling and other possible display issues:
1.) make sure that you have the very latest video driver - the very latest
2,) if you have Vista, turn Aero and Sidebar off
3.) if you have Window Blinds, get the very latest version
4.) if you have an InteliPoint mouse driver, try removing it, and using the standard Windows mouse driver instead*
5.) if you have a laptop and both the touch-pad and a mouse are installed and ON, turn the touch-pad OFF
These are some suggestions that might affect your display issues.

* The MS InteliPoint has caused many display issues with Adobe products. Most often, these have manifested themselves in flashing GUI's and similar, but other odd behaviors have been experienced. If the removal of InteliPoint does help, try the very latest version, but be ready to revert to the standard Windows mouse driver.

My typing cursor frequently goes crazy, not allowing me to type and jumping from place to place, deleting letters. Suddenly, a line I have typed will be highlighted and deleted at will. Also, mouse cursor moves at will, opening multiple pages in seconds. Help! What could be causing this, and how can I stop it?
I've had my Macbook pro for over a year and it has never done this before. Restarting the computer fixes the problem temporarily.

My first thought was the hard drive and OS has a built in Sudden Motion Sensor whcih will stop the hard drive heads from crashing into the platters when the computer is moved suddenly. This does work most of the time and could cause some of the tings you are seeing.
But then after reading more of your first post it seems your system and drive is doing some very strange things.
It would be best to first take it into an Apple Genius Bar and have it looked at. They can run tests on it and since it is still in the original 1 year warranty this should not cost you anything even if something needs to be replaced.
You can also run the Apple Hardware Test on it your self by connecting it to the Net by Ethernet cable and booting holding down the d key or the Command+d keys. That will boot the computer from the Apple internet servers and load the AHT.

Cant transmitt and Recieve data when USER INTERFACE Execution Mode selected

I am working on a project in which I have to continuously send and recieve serial data..
Again, in my application, I want to use AciveX control to open PDF (Theory related to the project).
PDF can be opened only in USER INTERFACE Execution Mode.
(I dont want to open PDF in Adobe Reader.. I want it inside my application)
But when I use this execution mode, I am unable to transmitt and receive data through VISA.
When I change the Execution mode to STANDERD, all works fine.
Again, I could not change the mode Using Property node.. Shows error that I cant edit the VI in running mode.
How should I get these two works done at a time..

I don't have Acrobat installed, so I cannot reproduce the problem or test the VI.
Did you try a different tool? There are other PDF viewers available…
Maybe the MS Webbrowser (available as DotNet) can show PDFs on the frontpanel of your VI…
You cannot change the execution system at runtime as it would require recompiling the VI. Point.

Zen screen goes black and locks up when attempting to dock to compu

When attempting to dock my Zen to my computer, it first starts like it is attempting to dock and then the screen goes black and the player locks up. I have to reset it in order to get it to come back on. This happens when trying to dock with Zen Media Explorer and Media Monkey. I have tried it on another computer and it happens there too. Help!

You are talking about a Creative Zen MP3 2/4/8/6/32 GB (flash) player?
Then check if you have the latest firmware on your Zen?
If you do have the latest firmware e.g. < Latest revision [.2.0] 28Feb08> then
try this:
Recovery Mode - If you experience one or more of the following symptoms, it is recommended that you boot the player into its unique Recovery Mode, and then clean up, format or reload the firmware.
. The player is not detected in Creative MediaSource or Windows Media Player

My laptop died last night and the date and time was set for 1/1/2000. I went to change the date and time and cannot. For some reason when i pull up system preferences it will not load date and time but will load other stuff. Please help.

Many system actions will misbehave, given an inaccurate date. Resetting the NVRAM and / or SMC will not fix it, and if the system has a preposterous date you may not be able to open System Preferences to correct it. This dilemma may or may not be addressed in a future OS X update.
If you cannot open System Preferences you can reset your system date and time using Terminal.
Please read everything that follows before proceeding. Write them down if necessary because the effects of setting a preposterous system date are unpredictable.
Quit System Preferences, force quit if necessary: OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
Open Terminal - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find Terminal by using the Finder's Go menu and choosing Utilities, then double-click the Terminal icon.
At the prompt, you will be typing a command resembling the following:
sudo date mmddhhnnyyyy
... but you must substitute the actual date and time in the command that corresponds to the date format used for your location. In other words if your custom is to use a date like 8 February 2014 then reverse the mm and dd values.
Substitute numerals in the above command according to the following:
mm = month
dd = date
hh = hour (24 hour format)
nn = minutes past the hour
yyyy = year
Each of those values must be two digits except for the year which can be two or four digits. As an example if the current date and time is February 8, 2014 at 9 PM your command will be the following:
sudo date 020821002014
or
sudo date 0208210014
Either one will work. If you enter nonsensical values the system will attempt to parse the entry correctly.
To recover from your inability to use System Preferences to set the date and time, the value entered does not have to be precise, it just has to be approximate.
Enter that command using the actual time and date for your location and in the appropriate format, then press the Return key. Terminal will ask for your Admin Password - the same one you use when you log in to your Mac. Type it and then press the Return key. What you type will not appear, not even with •••• characters.
To determine if your change was effective just type the date command and press the Return key. Terminal will reply with the date and time. If it appears correct and in the correct format, you should be able to open System Preferences > Date & Time once again. Selecting the "Set time and date automatically" and choosing an appropriate time server will adjust your Mac's system clock to the precise time.

When I type there's a long delay before the letters show up on the screen. Also when I backspace it goes crazy and erases entire sentences

This began several days ago and seems to be a problem in Firefox. I did download an update recently but don't thjink the problem developped simultaneously. When I used the computer's feature of resetting the computer to a prior day (May 19, before the update) I could not get Firefox to open at all. So I undid the reset but typing in Firefox is very difficult due to the extremely long delay in the letters I'm typing showing up.

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

NVL and replace date when date field is null from table

I am trying to replace a field with a date default when it is null and it is not working
I was wondering if someone could give me a clue to what I am doing wrong

It is not replacing a NULL value in o.mass_production_date__c if it is returning null
o.mass_production_date__c is a DATE format field

Can you post the actual query and screen cature show it's not working.
Most likely is because your data is not NULL but some empty string.
The function should work just fine like following,
TEST@rman> create table t1 (val date) ;
Table created.
TEST@rman> insert into t1 values (null);
1 row created.
TEST@rman> commit;
Commit complete.
TEST@rman> select * from t1;
VAL

AppleWorks going crazy and so am I!

I have little or no idea about the in's and out's of computers so when I checked for prior posts that had to do with my problem I found myself very confused. I am hoping someone will have pity on me and help me out...please?
I have AppleWorks 6 and all of a sudden it wouldn't let me open one of my files - giving the message that the file was damaged (I tried opening a new file and inserting it but didn't work). Then I started noticing that under "Starting Points" it would not respond when I would click on Templates or any of the other buttons but it would let me create new documents. I uninstalled and re installed it 3 times and now when I tried the templates would come up but when I clicked on banners...Appleworks closed all together. Now when I try to open AppleWorks back up ..it opens then closes. I have no tried to update it but the update says that it can't find it in the hard drive of the computer...I looked and it was there. I have no idea what to do. Any help please???

I've never used Windows XP, so I don't know where the Application Data folder would be. I think it is in a different place in Windows 2000 than Windows 98, but I'll have to wait until I go to work tomorrow to check. It is possible to search for a folder named "AppleWorks" in Win XP or, at least, a file named "AppleWorks Preferences"?
(This is very simple in any version of the Mac OS - sorry, I just had to do that I try not to know anymore about Windows than I have to. Although I'm still the one PC-users at work ask to solve PC problems.)
