Xp home can't see airport express in itunes

thank you for reading this and your help
i have a xp home edition that can not see any airport expresses on my network. i can access them via ping, or the airport tool by using the other option and putting the airports ip address in there - i do not see it via the tool alone.
also, itunes does not see the speakers
any ideas. thank you for your assistance

If you want all computers and devices to talk to each other, you much put them into one subnet (like this: 10.0.1.xxx). The function for handing out these IP addresses and make sure there is no conflict is called the DHCP server. Therefore, you should only have one DHCP server on one subnet. If you have one AE BS and one AX BS, the second AX BS must have the DHCP turn off so it will only act as a bridge. Or the second AX BS can be configured just as a client so it will receive the IP from the main AE.
Once every device on your subnet has a correct unique IP address, iTune will be able to find your AX speakers, and your don't need to know the IP address of the AX.

  • I can't see airport express after iTunes re-install

Hey you Windows guys, my daughter uninstalled iTunes by accident.  When I reinstalled it, I can't see the Airport Express (AE) any more.  It also doesn't show up in the Airport Utility.  This is what I've done to troubleshoot and more info:
    Windows 7 - 64 bit
    Latest iTunes and utility install.
Status light is green on the AE.
I can access the AE from the utility software if I manually enter the IP address.
My firewall is enabled for private and public on the follow services (iTunes, Airport Utility, Bonjour)
All ports have access in firewall
I can see the AE if I turn off the firewall
So based on the last point, I'm assuming it's a firewall issue but I'm at a loss for any of trouble shooting options.
    Any help would

OK, just some further basics, I've also tried all the resets (Soft, Hard, Factory) on the AE and still not showing up.
    Any ideas out there?

  • Can't see Airport Express on PC

We are trying to connect a PC, Packard Bell with Windows XP Home SP2, to my Airport Express network. I don't really understand why, but the PC is unable to see the signal of the AX. The ISP is called Alice (Telecom Italia), and has an Installation CD that I think screwed up some settings somehow. They use PPPoE to connect, and I'm not sure if this is the problem, but I think it is. I set up the AX with the modem so it works fine on my Mac, but the PC can't see anything. How do we proceed? Is this a problem with the wireless card in the PC? Or a problem with setup?

If your Mac connects wirelessly to the internet via the Airport Express without difficulty, then the problem is with the PC's configuration. The fact your PC cannot "see" the Airport Express wireless network has nothing to do with PPPoE. The possible reasons the PC cannot "see" the Airport Express wireless network:
    - the PC's wireless interface is defective
    - the PC's wireless interface and/or software has not been properly installed
    - if this is a PC laptop - some laptops have a switch that turns the built in antenna on and off, and yours might still be off.
    - (unlikely) you configured your Airport Express to create a "closed network" (a setting found under the Airport tab of the Airport Admin Utility) - you would remember if you had done this!
    - (unlikely) your PC has a wireless interface that doesn't support 802.11b or 802.11g wireless networks
After you figure out why your PC cannot "see" the Airport Express wireless network, you might find the information at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/windowsxp.html useful.

  • Can't See Airport Express on my Wireless N/work

I have a D-Link DSL G604t router, and have spent hours trying to get it to "see" AE - no joy. I have added the MAC Address to the enabled access list but still nothing - everytime I scan for it, it cannot be found. My Compaq l/top connects no problem to the network, and I cannot find any answers in the manual. Only trying to send itunes to my hifi - don't need to share connections or printers.

    Hi:
I had a similar problem with a DLink DI-624 wireless router and AirPort Express afew months ago. Here is what you can do.
As an intermediate step, which is undocumented but I found necessary, connect your Airport Express to the wireless router via an Ethernet cable. After the wired connection, your router will definitely see AirPort Express. Then you can go through the normal network registration process. Once this is complete, you can then power off Airport Express and disconnect it from the router and then place it where you originally intended. Once the solid green light comes on (30-60 seconds), you should be able to access AirPort Express the way it was intended, in a wireless manner.
Again, this worked for me after hours of unsuccessful struggling with the installation process as described in the Apple documentation. I hope this helps.

  • Can't see AirPort Express in second location

I have a new AirPort Express that works great at home with my MacBook Pro (extends network from Linksys wireless router, plays iTunes, connects to printer - even in Parallels / WinXP!). I saved this profile as "home".
I then simply unplugged it and took it to a friend's house thinking I could plug it in there and set up a 2nd profile, "friends", that does the exact same thing. Problem is I can't see it at the 2nd location, wirelessly or plugged in directly to the router or the computer via ethernet. When I bring it home again, it's still working just fine.
What else do I need to do to have it set up to work in two locations?
    Thanks in advance.
MacBook Pro, Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    There are two options:
    1. Create the second profile while on your own network. When you get ready to move the Express, select the profile before disconnecting it from the network.
    2. Perform a hard reset on the Express and reconfigure it once you get to your friend's house. If you've already created the profile, you can select the profile after the reset.

  • Can't see Airport Express

    Hi everyone,
I have been connecting both my Cube and my MBP to the internet via an Airport Express successfully for over a month now.
Today I allowed Software Update to download and install the following to my MBP:
    2007-03-24 13:18:10 +1100: Installed "Pages Update" (2.0.2)
    2007-03-24 13:18:14 +1100: Installed "Keynote Update" (3.0.2)
    2007-03-24 13:18:34 +1100: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.5)
    2007-03-24 13:18:37 +1100: Installed "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002" (1.0)
    2007-03-24 13:19:34 +1100: Installed "iPhoto Update" (6.0.6)
During the download process, I suffered a power outage and my Airport Express connection was lost. Software Update therefore couldn't download the other updates available (iTunes 7.1.1 and OSX 10.4.9) and so I was forced to restart with only the above updates installed.
However upon restart, my Airport Express network was not visible from the MBP. My Cube can see and connect to the AExpress network just fine.
My MBP can also detect a neighbour's wireless hifi network, but not my own AExpress. And I can also connect my MBP successfully to my router via ethernet cable.
I don't believe the power failure would be the cause, as it was only the download process and not the update process that was interrupted - but i could be mistaken.
Could the Airport Extreme update have changed the way my MBP seeks a connection?
Incidentally, my MBP was purchased in USA but I am in Australia. Are there differences in which wireless channels are used or anything like that which could have been modified by the updated software if it thought I was in the US?
I'm hesitant about updating to OSX 10.4.9 until this issue is resolved, or should I see whether the OS update resolves the problem?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Michael.

OK everyone - you can stop panicking on my behalf now...
The problem was with the Channel my Airport Express was broadcasting on. From within Airport Setup Utility I discovered the AExpress channel was set to Automatic, and it had selected channel 13. Channel 13 is apparently not available in the USA (where my MBP comes from), but IS available here in Oz.
Resetting my Airport Express channel to 1 fixed the issue immediately.
Why did it change? I don't know, but I presume that after my power outage, the AExpress reset it's automatic channel selection. Must have just been lucky that it was set to a channel between 1-11 until then.
Hope this helps any other punters out there with similar problems - especially those mixing international components.
Now I finally get to complete my update to 10.4.9!
    Michael.

  • Can't see airport express base station....help please. Sitting in cupboard.

Ok, so I've moved house and it's all gone a bit wrong....
Usually I connect my iBook G4 to the internet using an airport extreme base station - ethernet cable goes from airport to BT router - BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router.
All was fine until I moved house. Now I can connect to the internet no problem if the ethernet cable goes straight into the laptop - but I just can't see my AEBS. I've tried switching it on and off to no avail, and was even brave and reset the whole thing, but nothing happens. When I scan using airport utility it just doesn't see it.
When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
I did install some BT home hub software at the weekend so I could log into my brother's network - could this be the issue? Although I have used my laptop wirelessly in the internet cafe next door and that was fine. The computer is also picking up other wireless networks, it just can't see mine. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Px

When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
You posted in the AirPort Express area, but it sounds like you have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)--correct?
If so, let's start by performing a complete power recycling of your network components to make sure that the BT Voyager router "recognizes" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • Can't see airport express on certain network.

I have 2 Airport Expresses. My home network has a Linksys router and 2 acess points - both Engenius. The primary SSID for the Linksys is Moe, and the two engenius AP's are Larry (ECB9500) and Curly (EOC2611P). When I setup the AE's (Airport Express) up on Larry in client mode, I get the green light, I can see them in the Airport Utility on my iPhone and I can stream music to them. When I setup the AE's on Curly in client mode (doing it the exact same method), I get the green light; however, I can NOT see them using the Airport Utilty nor stream music to them. The light is green though, and when I go into the Linksys and look at the DHCP client list, I can see them (Music1 and Music2) along with the IP's. When I try to ping them, they do not return a ping. I want them on Curly, because that access point can be seen in the house where one AE will be and throughout the yard where another is. Larry doesn't reach into the yard. Any ideas or suggestions? Let me know if more information is needed.

What are you trying to do? I had to read your thing like 3 times... and I still do not understand. Why are you using 3 routers an 2 airport expresses? What type of Airport Expresses are the ones you have? What type of security do you have on your devices? What radio band are you using for your primary router?... Too many complications.. too many What ifs scenarios... listen I am sure you have a game plan.. .and you want to give internet to your house, your neigbors house, and the two houses after your neighbors house... but your thinking too hard in this puzzle. My primary advice is... Go get your self either one new Airport Extreme or one refurbished Airport Extreme and loose the three routers. Then extend the Airport Extreme using the two Airport Expresses (provided they are not G airport expresses).

  • Can't see Airport Express from Airport Utility anymore

I unplugged my airport express when I went out of town for a week. Now that I'm back, I plug in the airport express and it just blinks amber. In Airport Utility I cannot see any networks. Other notes:
    - I'm running XP, using the Airport Express with Airtunes to run my stereo
    - when I 'View Wireless Networks' I see both the airport express and my neighbor's Apple base station (so it's odd that they don't show up in Airport Utility
    - I have tried resetting Airport Express several times, along with my wireless router, cable modem, and computer
    - I have checked to make sure software is up-to-date, and even re-installed the Airport Utility.
    - I recently purchased an iPhone, and before I left town it worked (with the Remote app and updated iTunes) with the stereo via the Airport Express
    - Both the computer and iPhone see my home network just fine, but Airport Utility sees nothing, despite rescanning
    - It is possible that either iTunes and/or Windows may have updated since this last worked a week ago.
    - I started debugging this three days ago with no progress (it is not intermittent)
    Any advice?

I still had phone support, and they showed me how to fix this.
The piece that I was missing is that after I reset the AX, I have to connect to it directly through the wireless connection (dropping to connection from my PC to my home wireless network). From this connection, I can see the AX in Airport Utility and change the settings.
One other piece of info, I was using a manual setup on the AX. This was necessary due to the 26 character WEP password (not using WPA2).

  • Computers can't see airport express

I have a wireless home network with a PC & an iBook connected to a cable modem via a belkin router. The network had been working fine, but I just replaced my modem and am now unable to see my airport express wirelessly. I have unplugged and restarted everything and reset the airport express. I was able to reconfigure it using an ethernet connection and the configuration seemed to work fine while wired, but once I remove the cable, my computer can no longer see the connection (although happily sees about 10 other networks in my building). The green light is on the airport. Any suggestions would be greatly welcome.

OK, I found the answer on www.girr.org/macstuff/airport_linktips.html. There was a link on this site to an airport management suite that I downloaded. Using this I cabled to the airport and was able to correct the WDS setting to allow wireless clients and change my wireless channel. Maybe this will at least help someone else with a similar problem.

  • Utility Airport can't see Airport Express on my MacPro, although the same AE operates properly with a MacBook Pro

I've unsuccefully spend almost three days on the web to find the solution to a particular problem.
The configuration  I'm running is as follow:
    - one Airport Express attached to the Orange box to communicate through internet
    - one printer attached to the AE through USB
    Two Mac :
    - one MacBook Pro : it operates with no problem using the AE and the printer, internet is fine since I write this message with that Apple. The two machines may operate simultaneously under different or identical softwares.
    - one Macpro : two points:
         * the Airport utility does not see the Airport Express, but the AE logo is fully active on the computer and I can read information with Preferences/Network.
         * the Network diagnostic, launched from the MacPro, yields GREEN from Airport to FAI included steps ( green LED), but fails at the Internet step (red LED)
The computers are in the same bench, the AE being at 2 meter distance with no shield in between.
The Orange box is proved fine since all the internet communications are OK when I use the MacBook Pro . The phone is fine as well.
There are no other WiFi in the neighbourg.
The problem occured on Sunday evening for an unclear reason, while I was trying to connect a window XP based PC to link to the printer using the same wireless network ( I miserably fail as well, although the PC sees the Airport Express, but no way to connect to the printer : this is another issue )
The full network is running permanently for a couple of years with no issue, no fault, no reset, no slow down, just fine !
Both machines use the same OSX 10.6.8.
Information system returns the same data when reading the Airport network file.
Of course, the Airport Express yields solid Green light .
I've already checked the trouble shoot procedures as recommended by Apple with no success.
Well, this is a major issue since I do need my MacPro to handle work that must go through the internet.
Any advise and/or recommendation will be highly appreciated.
    Michael

    Hello,
Finally, I solve the issue by re loading the mDNSResponder which has been deactivated for an unknown reason. The system is back to normal operation.Thank so much to the Krypted.com site to provide the appropriate command to handle theplist file.

  • Can't see Airport Express previously set up as network extender

Hi, We recently moved.  At the old house I had an older Airport Extreme and two Airport Express units that were both configured to extend that Airport Extreme network.
When we moved I kept the old network alive at the old house for a couple months (security cameras) and so I bought a new Airport Extreme and set up a new network at the new house.  A few weeks ago I found a need for one of the older Airport Express units, this time to Extend this new network to help me get better signal beyond our garage firewall (a real firewall, you know like to stop fire).  But it's pretty dense.
It seems like I had to struggle to get to the place where the Airport Utility could see that unit but I don't believe I had to reset it.  I just don't recall.  Now I want to use the second Airport Express.  I plug it in.  It flashes Yellow (reasonable).  I look for it on Airport Utility and it's not there.  And I see nothing under the "Other WiFi Devices" tab.
Granted, that unit is setup with old network credentials but first, I know what those are and second, if I can't see it at all, I certainly can't enter any password.  It seems like the other one magically showed up after I restarted this or restarted that.  I just don't recall.  Prior to resorting to doing a hardware RESET of the second Airport Express unit, is there something I'm doing wrong that's precluding me from seeing this device???
Any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks... bob

You must reset it.. that is how it will show up.. and it must be the N wireless model not earlier G one.. that will never show up.
To avoid doing a reset is extremely difficult because the utility has to know its IP address and since it was used to extend wireless it hasn't got one.
So reset is the correct method.

  • Powerbook 1.67Ghz  Can't See Airport Express

Hi- Is anybody else out there having a hard time getting a Powerbook 15" 1.67 Ghz to see an Airport Express with Airport Admin Utility?
If the Airport Express doesn't show up in Admin Utility, the Powerbook won't be able to access remote speakers in iTunes, and won't be able to see the printer that is on the Express's USB port.
I've tried everything. I have an older Ti-Book that has no problems seeing the Airport Express at the same time my Powerbook 1.67 can't see it.
    - thanks for any help.
    Ted.

    Ted,
Go to System Preferences > Network and make sure Airport is at the top of the list, and if not, drag it there. Check your firewall while in prefs.
Also, make sure everything is at the same security level, talking the same language...WEP, WPA for example.

  • Can't see airport express in airport utility

Just purchased an airport express to add to my network for the purpose of steaming music wirelessly.  The network already has an airport Extreme as the base and four other expresses wired via CAT-5e in an distributed network that is working great. I had one other room that I wanted to stream music without running additional CAT 5e. I cannot get the express to show in airport utility so I can configure it.
    Computer: I-mac  OS X 10.8.4
airport extreme: bridge mode  with 4 expresses underneath in bridge mode
Do have a verizon router above the extreme (FIOS) but the wireless is turned off

Assuming that the AirPort Express is in range of a wireless signal, with the AirPort Express powered on, push and hold the reset button on the back of the device for 7-8 seconds and release.
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Express to restart
Close AirPort Utility if it is open
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
AirPort Setup will open automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to extend the network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Express, and click Next
AirPort Setup will take another minute to configure things. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
    That's it.
If you want the Expess to "join" the wireless network and not provide any additional wireless coverage......
    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Express, then click Edit
    Click the Wireless tab
Click the Network Mode selection box and choose Join a wireless network
If the setting does not appear, hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Network Mode selection box

  • MacBook can't see Airport Express when waking from sleep

    Hi,
I have an airport express unit specifically for using with air tunes. I am find that every time my macbook wakes from sleep although it reconnects to my wireless network ok it (and therefore itunes) can't see the AX anymore.
Rebooting the AX unit fixes the problem and i can again stream from itunes but i dont want to have to reboot the AX each time beacuse my MacBook goes in and out of sleep 5+ times a day as i move it around the house.
I am not having any issue with audio drop out or stuttering as mentioned by others, nor does the ax stop working once streaming has begun.
    My Setup is:
    MacBook OSX 10.4.11
    Airport Express (latest firmware)
BeBox wireless router (rebranded speedtouch) running WPA2 security
Any suggestions on what i can do to stop this recurring?

I've recently developed a similar problem. When my PowerBook G4 wakes from sleep it can no longer see the Airport Express. It still connects to the Internet, and the AX continues to shine a steady green light. I've written an Automator script that restarts the router, and once it reboots the AX shows up again in iTunes or the AirPort utility.
Customer service for my router claims this is an issue with the AX. Anyone have any ideas?
    Computer: PowerBook G4, 10.5.2
Wireless network: TrendNet TEW-432 G router, WPA, DHCP, SSID broadcast off, no MAC filter, Airport Express set up to join network (not extend).
    Thanks,
