XP Home edition

Hi, I have XP Home edition and have tried to setup a testing
server to no
avail. Do I need to purchase XP Professional before this will
work? I have
also installed Apache and that still did not allow
Dreamweaver to find the
testing server. I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks
Sean

  • Installation 10g on Windows XP Home Edition

When I try to install 10g on my Windows XP Home Edition, I get a error message, "oui.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." Whats that all about?

Windows XP Home is not a supported platform for Oracle. I have heard some people have been able to get it to work but usually not without a lot of tinkering. General rule of thumb -- Windows anything Home edition is not supported by Oracle. My suggestion is if you have the disk space, install VMware and put a Linux distro like Centos in it and install Oracle on that. Or go the dual boot route.

I tried to download Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition on Windows XP Home edition.
After 15% installation was over , it prompted me for Disk2 and I gave the path c:\dirName\Disk2..where the disk2 is located. But the prompt dialog keeps on asking about Disk2.
Can anybody suggest what can I do about it?

  • I am trying to install XP Home Edition over Windows 7

Hello,  I have been all over trying to resolve the problem detailed below and hope you can help me.
    I have a HP Pavilion Elite -  HPE 180T - OS Win 7 64 bit.
    System Info: 9 GB Physical memory - 5 memory Modules - Video Card1.8GB  NVIDIA GeForct GTX 260 (2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters)- Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU 950 @3.07GHz - 8GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM (4 DIMMs) - 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s hard drive.
Problem: I do not want Windows 7 and am trying to install XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 - Full Version/CD ROM.  I put the disc in and the install option is greyed out.  What do I need to do to prep my system to accept the installation?  I have my system backed up.  If I erased my hard drive would that work?  Is there a way to install over the Win 7 or have both OS's installed? I've seen advise to adjust the BIOS but can not figure out how to bring the screen up on start up.  I looked in the HP manual and can not find the information.
    Any direction is most appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Windows XP is an unsupported OS and installing XP may void your warranty.
If you still want to use XP, I would make sure you create HP Recovery Discs before you start anything.  Wiping the hard drive should allow you to install XP.  I'm not sure what options you have on the XP installation disc but I would look for an Advanced option and try a Dual Boot or Dual Install if you want to run both operating systems.  For help, do a search for "dual boot windows 7 and XP" or something similar and browse the results.

  • Error message downloading j2se 1.5.0 on windows XP home edition (SP2)

    Hello:
I am getting the following error message attempting to install the j2se 5.0 on my windows XP home edition (SP2):
    "Error JavaTM installer
The installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so please try installing at a later time as these file might be only temporarily unavailable."
    There is a bug report:
    Bug ID: 6237992
Tested Bundle: 5.0u2_b09 JDK iftw on staging site
    http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
    Tested O/S: XP-Home (sp2)
    Problem:
The installer throws error messages. I tried on three different
XP-Home (sp2) machines in our lab. It throws error message the very first or second time and after that, it seems to work fine.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) On XP-Home(sp2) machine, try to download and install the JDK iftw bundle from
    http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
    2) During the installation the first or second time, one of the following messages thrown:
    A) "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package"
    B) Error - Java Installer
"This installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version, please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so, please try installing at a later time, as these files might be only temporary unavailable"
This problem seems to occur on XP-Home(sp2). When error message pops up, keep trying it, it 's eventually OK. It may confuse consumers at the first two times.
    xxxxx@xxxxx 2005-03-09 05:11:47 GMT"
I have tried the downloading five times to no avail, both by double clicking, and using the windows run utility. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am getting the same error when opening the J2se Development Kit 5.0 Update 8 after I press the Run button. ( "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package").
    Is there a solution ?
    Thanks,

  • All of Office 2010 Student and Home Edition Programs open as Microsoft Single Image instances since Installing Outlook 2013

Office 2010 Student and Home Edition has been running without problems on my PC since 2012. Recently installed Microsoft Outlook 2013 (The version of Office 2010 did not include Outlook), since then, every time I open any of the original Office 2010 Programs
eg XCEL, WORD, POWER POINT, ONE NOTE, the program opens in 'Microsoft Office 2010 Single Image' which appears to have to be installed every time any of the programs are opened. The Installation process takes anything up to a few minutes to complete and sometimes
when filing or printing a document, the install restarts, on occasions, in an endless loop which requires random, imaginative keystroke action to terminate. The program shortcut icons all point to the 'Microsoft Office 2010 Single Image' application, I have
not succeeded in finding where the original programs are located as a quick way of trying to fix the problem.
The new installation of Outlook 2013 opens normally.
Evidently, the Outlook 2013 installation has disturbed the 2010 licensing or something ellse, can this unintended change be reversed?
Short of a complete Un-install + Re-Install, I have tried every straightforward  repair/ change (run All on my computer)/ enter product code etc option, all to no avail.
I have read of variations on the same problem relating to mixing Office 2003/ 2007, cases of Outlook 2013 starting up in a similar way, but no examples of the specific problem outlined above. The next step
is a complete Un-install + re-install of Office 2010, is this the answer or do I need to go further? Indeed, is there a quick fix?

    Hi,
The Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 is a set of tools, documentation, and product files that licensed original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can use to preload Office on new computers for distribution to end users.
I would suggest you to try the methods listed in this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2528748/en-us Just run the Fix-It tool mentioned in the page, or follow the steps to fix it by yourself.
A similar issue is discussed here, you might have a look:

  • Itunes 7.1.1. and Windows Vista Home Edition

Hi there. I have a new PC from HP model T3765.it and I am NOT able to use my iPod nor to install iTunes for more than two months: my PC says "you have to repair iTunes to make it working with Windows Vista". I followed the instructions (Control Panel --> Programs --> iTunes --> repair) but no result. My PC has Windows Vista Home Edition. Does anyone know what to do? Is there a way to sort this out or do I have to wait for a new iTunes release?
    Thanks, Giacomo

Can anyone help me with instructions to restore the Ipod to a back level? I have searched the discussions but haven't found a method. I have downloaded 1.2.1 but Itunes wants to check for an update and won't let me get past that point.

  • How may I eliminate all of iTunes from Windows XP Home Edition before making a "clean" installation of iTunes?

Hello.  I found that in Windows XP Home Edition that I had two subdirectories of iTunes: C:\Program Files\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes(2).  I assume this situation has arisen by me not properly updating iTunes in the past.  When it came time to update iTunes from one of the version 10.3s to version 10.4 of iTunes, I tried to do something about the pair of iTunes subdirectories.  Via Start, Control Panel, and Add or Remove Programs I "Remove"d the only listing of iTunes; that is iTunes(2) was not listed there.  But afterwards C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) still existed, as viewed in the program Windows Explorer.  Next while offline I installed iTunes10.4 by running the downloaded file iTunesSetup(4).exe in my case.  I chose C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) as the directory for installation.  Next I uninstalled iTunes via Add or Revmove Programs.  The directory C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) then still existed.  I need an iTunes cleanup utility, if there is one, or else a way to eliminate all vestiges of iTunes, including registry entries, from my Windows XP Home Edition.  [I think this situation is the opposite of a situation in which the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (WICU) would apply.  I think the WICU is useful when a program is visible by name in the Windows Add or Remove Programs list, but can't be removed by clicking on "Remove" in that list.]  [I also noticed the directory C:\Program Files\iPod(2).  Is that directory associated with iTunes(2)?]  After that I would hope that a fresh offline installation of iTunes 10.4 to my computer's hard-disk drive would result in only C:\Program Files\iTunes among iTunes subdirectories in C:\Program Files when viewed in Windows Explorer.  Please inform me how to reach this goal.  Thanks.

I'd also dig down into where your home user account holds temp files, as well as application preferences and support. I just know Vista began using \myaccount\AppData and multiple locations under there.
Apple leaves behind every past installer cache, support (imporant to get rid of that also).
The first thing I do (no iPod etc) is uninstall Bonjour and disable iPod and MobileMe.
Windows Uninstaller Cleanup Utility also use to be a must for stubborn "partially installed" apps.
When you are done, CCleaner and Registry.
Another place to clean is %TEMP% (may be different in XP).

  • Sap b1 setup failed on Windows Vista -Home edition

    Hi experts,
I installed SQL-2005 on windows vista home edition and also installed SAP B1-2007B-PL09 but it shows error connection with License server failed and SAP B1 service manager-License Manager 2007 are also disable .so my question is it SAP b1 support Windows vista-home edition.pl suggest me solution.
    Regards,
    Sudhir pawar

    Sudhir,
Windows Vista home edition is not a supported Operating system.
That being said, the reason that your license manager is not enabled is more than likely not due to this fact.
Close the server tools, and relaunch but this time right-click and 'run as administrator' this should enable all the options and allow the license server to start.
You may also want to view the system requirements PDF available in the SAP B1 document resource center, this should give you some insight into supported platforms.
    I hope this helps,
    Lucas

  • Error 1310 while installing itunes, config.msi folder missing, Vista home edition.

I get the following error when installing itunes 10.5.3 on my Windows Vista 32Bit premium home edition:
Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi\4361d.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory.
I cannot find the folder mentioned above.

I have the same problem. I've tried tons of ways to solve that. Finally I suceed today.
I closed all the antivirus and computer/device backup programs and elevate the pession of Config.Msi folder to the current user (by right clicking the folder, add the name of current account under security tab).
Then I reinstalled the updates, it worked fine.
I think one of those methods may be enough to solve the problem, but I'm not sure which is.

  • Install software for Deskjet 2540 will not load on Windows XP Home edition SP3 machine

I have successfully connected a new Deskjet 2540 printer to a Windows 7 machine, and IPAD Air, and an XP Pro laptop.
I cannot get the install software to load on and XP Home edition SP3 machine. I have tried all of the HP remedies that I can find, over  period of two days, but the installation fails every time with the message "Installation failed. The software required for your printer could not be installed".
    What can be done?

    Hi,
Thanks  for  your second installment of help suggestions.
I started check disk as you proposed and it ran happily for some hours with evidence of progress. However eventually I found the computer stopped with a number of suggestions for restarting. I tried all of these and some others, but got no further than the first Windows picture. At this point the machine restarts, and goes through the same process.
The printer problem, as you can see has unfortunately become secondary to trying to recover the system.
What I propose is to  try to read the disc in question on another computer, and extract the important data files to a safe place. Then to return the disc to its own machine and use the recovery CD, to try to get the machine to recover with the minimum of loss. If this succeeds, I might even find that the printer software then loads without problem. There is a big IF there, and I won't hold my breath.
None of this relates to the printer problem, and fortunately i have three other devices running which are happily connected to the printer.
I just wnted to explain why there will be no further feedback for a while. I will take my time with the recovery process.
Thanks for all of your help. I have just been unlucky.
    Regards

  • Problem with PC Suite and Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit

I installed PC Suite on my desktop with Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit installed.  I was able to eventually run PC Suite (granted it needed to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode) and sync my calendar on my W518a cell phone with PC Suite via Bluetooth communications.  After I turned off my computer and restarted it, I could no longer open up PC Suite...its icon appears in my system tray with a red X over it as if it can't find the program.
The SonyEricsson website indicates PC Suite can run with Windows 7.
What is causing the problem I am having?  How do I get this corrected?

I have downloaded and reinstalled the PC Suite software.  Although it is not working as well as it should, as long as I have my cell phone on with Bluetooth enabled prior to clicking on the icon to open the application, it seems to work OK.  Otherwise, when it opens, it just hangs and the only way you can close the program is to get into Task Manager and force it closed when its status is showing as "Not Responding".  I also have found that just "closing" the PC Suite window does not close the application...you have to click on the option to "Exit the Application" otherwise you continue to have it in your system tray with a red X over the icon.

  • Cannot install windows xp home edition w/sp3 into my mac pro mac os 10.6.2

cannot install windows xp home edition w/sp3 into my mac pro mac os 10.6.2. I followed the instructions step by step but it does let me install if fully when asks me to fully install it says it cannot where to install.

    Hi,
how much diskspace did you assign to the Windows partition ?
And did you do the reformating of the WIndows partition as described on pages 8-10 of the BootCamp Installation Guide ?
In your first post you mentioned 'fully install' twice. Any chance that the XP disc you use is an Upgrade disc and not a full retail/OEM one ?
Check with the label on the disc because such XP upgrade disc are not useable with BootCamp.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 Release 3 on Windows XP Home Edition

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the personal oracle 8.1.7 in a laptop which is an windows xp home edition. The installer doesn't start!
    Is it a compatibility problem?
What should i do now to install oracle?

    Tom,
    Thanks for replying.
I don't see what I can compile. The initial program I am trying to compile is very simple it has a connect statement followed by the definition of a cursor, the cursor is opened and the fetch is performed. The program crashes on performing the open of the cursor. It seems to me that Pro*C is producing C output that the comipilers, (cl.exe in the visual studio .Net IDE, or mingw gcc for win32), cannot turn into runnable code on the Windows XP Professional platform. Pro*C is not open source code so I cannot recompile that, Microsoft cl.exe is most definately not open source. gcc is open source and I suppose I could recompile that but surely the mingw win32 compiler should work as it is standard and widely used. Anyway the output of both the compilers fails. Maybe I will compile gcc for my installation but it seems to me like Pro*C is probably the culprit here and trying to run the Oracle 8.1.7 version on XP may not be possible. I posted here in case this is a known problem.
Another thought has just occured to me that maybe I should try running a 10g or 9i version of Pro*C on the 8.1.7 installation. How would I get this? Would I have to install the whole installations to get the binary?
    Martyn
