XP Install - Just Stops at Progress Bar!!

Hi all
Hope someone can help please.
On a laptop running Windows XP MCE SP2 - I have used the web
page unistaller to remove all previous shockwave players.
I've modified the ActiveX settings on the security options as
directed.
But when I try and install the latest Shockwave player I get
a page with a graphic that says Adobe Shockwave player is now
installing, the progress bar moves to the end & then NOTHING
happens!!
I do not get any warning bar about Active X controls.
Having been to the FAQ's on support page I tried the
alternate executable installer but this just seems to take me back
to the normal download page. There is no option to right click and
download an installer.
Can anyone offer any help please?
Many thanks.

You wrote: "I copied to the Applications folder."That's where I'd say it should go. My concern was you may have dropped it in something like /Library/StartupItems.
You might check /Library/StartupItems just to be sure there are no Dreamweaver-related startup items therein that may be "confused" given that you moved the application from an external drive to your internal drive, esp. if you had been using it previously from the external. It is a long shot, but worth a check.
I don't use Dreamweaver, but some apps add either Startup Items, Login Items, or both. You can read my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ for details about such.
I suspect the Dreamweaver move isn't the case, but since it was the last change you made before this occurred (was it the last change?) it's worth investigating a bit.
If the earlier Apple KB article I posted does not help, you can also try the steps in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
Good luck!

  • When I click to install Firefox update the progress bar just keeps on going without ever connecting.

    Most every time I start Firefox (the past few weeks) I get a message that there is an update available and "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update as soon as possible". In the same window there is a link to "more information about this update". The link doesn't work. When I click on install a window titled "Downloading Firefox" opens reporting "connecting to the update server...". The progress bar just keeps going and going without ever connecting.

    If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

    Not precisely that way, but just off the top of my head, you would have to have a handle to the proccess (server) in the first window, then have a monitor program that allows you take this handle and end it. I would make this monitor program be the gateway to starting and stopping your server. To run a .bat file you can use runtime.exec().

  • How do stop the progress bar disappearing during sync?

    When I'm syncing my iPod Classic to my iTunes I will see a progress bar at the top of iTunes showing how far it has progressed and text letting me know which track of how many I'm on.  But this information will only appear for a second or two before being replaced by the text: "Synching iPod Do Not Disconnect".  The warning will remain visible for aproximately two minutes.  How do I change it so that the progress bar remains visible constantly and the warning does not appear?  Failing that how do I change it so that the information I wish to see remains on screen longer and the warning appears only briefly?

  • Stop a timer that triggers progress bar

    This timer triggers a progress bar. The goal is to stop the timer (and therefore the progress bar) when a label changes its text.
    However, the timer goes on for ages and the progress bar keeps going until it reaches 100%. The timer never stops, it just that the progress bar can't go any further.
    In other words,
    1. How do you stop the timer below?
    2. How do you make this timer below to listen to other events such as threads terminated or label text change?
    Feel free to tweak around the code below so I can see what you mean. I learn by example.
    Thanks in advance,
      int i = 0 ;
      public void timer2 ()
        Timer t2 = new Timer ( 10000, new ActionListener () //10 seconds
          public void actionPerformed ( ActionEvent event )
            progressBar.setValue ( i ) ;
            progressBar.setStringPainted ( true ) ;
            i++ ;
        t2.start () ;
        if ( lblStatus.getText ().equals ( "CD succesfully created" ) ) {
          i = 100 ;
          progressBar.setValue ( i ) ;
          progressBar.setStringPainted ( true ) ;
          t2.stop () ;
      }

    Thanks John. You can tell I'm a newbie huh.
    Where do I put the property listener for the label?
    If I put the listener inside the timer I get a compilation error saying that an "identifier is expected beginning at 'CD successfully completed' "
    int i = 0 ;
      public void timer3 ()
        Timer t3 = new Timer ( 5000, new ActionListener () //5 seconds
           public void actionPerformed ( ActionEvent event )
            progressBar.setValue ( i ) ;
            progressBar.setStringPainted ( true ) ;
            i++ ;
        t3.start () ;
       lblStatus.addPropertyChangeListener("CD successfully completed", new PropertyChangeListener() {
                               public void propertyChange(PropertyChangeEvent evt) {
                                       t3.stop();
                       } );if I put the property listener inside, I get a different error "the variable t3 is being accessed from within inner class and that it needs to be declared final."
      int i = 0 ;
      public void timer3 ()
        Timer t3 = new Timer ( 5000, new ActionListener () //5 seconds

  • CS3 install silent with progress bar ??

    Is it possible to install full CS3 with progress bar showing when the program silently installs?
    Install works fine using UI mode Silent and Full, but I can't find andy other options?
    My problem is when using the silent install of full CS3, shortcuts are available before the installation is finished. Since the installation takes time, users may click the shortcut before the installation is finished, resulting installation fails.
    Using the UI Mode Full is dependent on the users, and not accepted by company.
    -Odesti

    We too are in the same boat, we need a progress bar so that our users know that we are deploying the application.
    I've tried various random switch for the "UI mode" but none work. There must be others than silent or Full.

  • What does the progress bar mean?

    I have just started using TM after installing Leopard a few weeks ago. My plan is to continue to use Super Duper to do a weekly, bootable backup, but to use TM for essentially data backup. With that in mind, I have excluded system files, applications, and other partitions on the backup drive, figuring that the actual amount of data to be backed up will be relatively small.
    On it initial backup the progress bar showed 30 GB possible and when the progress bar showed 10 GB, which was far more than I had anticipated, I stopped it, thinking that I needed to fine tune what I was excluding. When I look at the file, backups.backupdb, I see that it's right around 2 GB right now.
    This leads me to believe that the progress bar on the initial run is only indicating how much of the data has been evaluated not necessarily how much has been backed up. Can someone confirm this or set me straight on just what the progress bar is telling me?
    -Bill

    One of the things I noticed is that I had indeed left out one of the partitions on the very drive that I am using as the TM backup. I know that TM won't backup its own backup, but I don't think it can identify other partitions on the same drive. The partition in question actually contains the SuperDuper backup, something I don't need on TM. I did go back and exclude it and the calculated backup dropped from 30 GB to 20 GB, which is still way in excess of what I am actually wanting to back up.
    Given what you have said about potentially damaging the backup, perhaps I need to start over. How would I go about doing this, just delete the existing backupdb file? Then go in and rework the excluded files and really narrow things down. This does seem, however, to defeat the process somewhat, the idea of just let it do its thing.
    Since my photos and music are already kept on an external drive, on the same partition, in fact, that I will be keeping the TM backup, those are files which do not come into the TM picture. Actually the more I think about this the more dicey it is becoming.
    What I have been doing up until now is doing a weekly SuperDuper backup and copying my Documents folder separately. I have five folders, representing up to five weeks in a month and would copy the Documents folder into week one the first week of the month and so on throughout the month. Then next month I would overlay week by week what I had done before. That assured me that I would always have one month of Documents should I restore a SuperDuper backup beyond what was in the Documents folder on that particular SD version.
    What I am wanting to do is essentially the same thing except use TM to backup the Documents folder. Perhaps that's a too narrowly defined and too difficult to implement use of TM. Perhaps I have to rethink this. Comments?

  • How to slow things down to see the progress bar?

    how to slow things down to let the progress bar to show its progress?
    everytime i run the program i can see only two scenario: 1. 0% 2. 100%
    i think the stuffs are too little to make any difference.
    what should i add in the codes so that i can see the progress?
    thanks!
    here is my codes:
    jProgressBar1.setValue(1);
    do some stuff here
    jProgressBar1.setValue(15);
    do some stuff
    jProgressBar1.setValue(31);
    do some stuff
    jProgressBar1.setValue(41);
    do some stuff
    jProgressBar1.setValue(61);
    do some stuff
    jProgressBar1.setValue(100);

    Hi!
    When you call update on the progress bar, the value of the progress bar is updated, but it won't be reflected on the screen until Swing has a chance to repaint. Swing can't repaint until your code is finished. So, what's happening is something like this:
    setValue(1), do stuff, setValue(15), do stuff, setValue(31), do stuff, Swing Repaint
    Also, not only does this block the progress bar from updating, but as long as your code here is running it blocks all of Swing (repainting, handling events, etc...).
    If your "stuff" isn't very time consuming, just remove the progress bar altogether. Otherwise, to make things work properly, you'll want to move it to another thread. Then, from that thread you can keep the progress bar up to date with:
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
        public void run() {
            jProgressBar1.setValue(xxx);
    });Hope that helps!

  • Show Progress Bar while Accessing data from Server

    Hi,
    I need a Progress bar to be displayed when my application triggers database to backup, As the data would be large progress bar makes sense to display the time span.
    I need a progress bar in place to show the progress of the task,
    Can anyone suggest me how to do this? This should be shown when i backup my database from WPF.
    I have code written for server side and just need a progress bar and timer.
    Thanks,
    Shreyas M

    You could use a BackgroundWorker. There is a complete code sample available on MSDN here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc221403(v=vs.95).aspx. You do the long-running work, i.e. the actual backup, in the DoWork event handler.
    Note that you will need to report the progress (by calling the ReportProgress method of the BackgroundWorker) and calculate the total time it will take to complete the backup operation yourself.
    It might be easier to just display some "waiting" element and no progress bar during the time it takes for the operation to complete:
    <!-- replace this with any element like for example an Image -->
    <TextBlock x:Name="loadingElement" Visibility="Collapsed">please wait...</TextBlock>
    loadingElement.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;
    System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    //call your backup method here (this code is being run on a background thread....
    .ContinueWith((t) =>
    loadingElement.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Collapsed;
    }, System.Threading.CancellationToken.None, TaskContinuationOptions.None, TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext());
    After all you probably don't know how long time it will take for the method to complete, right? If you want to display a ProgressBar, the backup method should report the progress somehow. If you just call a method and wait for it to complete, you have no
    idea of how long time it will take for the method to return. You will then have to estimate the actual time and then increase the value of the progress bar accordingly.
    There is no way to find out before hand exactly how long time it will take until a method returns so it is the responsibility of the (backup) method to report to the caller how long time it needs and how long time is left until it is done. Far from all API:s
    support reporting progress.
    As you see in the BackgroundWorker example on MSDN, you could call the ReportProgress once in each iteration of a loop but if there is no loop in your Backup method you better just display a busy indicator without a progress bar since you don't know anything
    about the progress anyway.
    Edit: You could of course also display a ProgressBar element with its IsIndeterminate set to True. Just replace the TextBlock and use the sample code above:
    <ProgressBar x:Name="loadingElement" IsIndeterminate="True" Height="50"/>
    Setting this property to true is useful when you don't know how long time the operation will take:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.progressbar.isindeterminate(v=vs.110).aspx
    Hope that helps.

  • Signing in to Adobe ID causes endless progress bar

    When I enter my username and password for Adobe ID in Photoshop Elements 10, it just runs the progress bar forever. I have to force close the application to get out of it. Is there a solution to this problem? All of my applications are up to date.

    You just need to bypass the welcome screen entirely. Go into the program files/program files(x86) or the applications folder on a mac and make direct shortcut(s)/dock icon(s) for the editor and/or organizer .exe/application file(s) and use those to start the program instead. If on a mac note that the actual editor is hidden away in the support files folder.
