XP/LabVIEW 4.0.1 Compatibility

Hi, I am currently doing research at the local University using LabVIEW 4.0.1, PC 1200 DAQ board, and a Pentium 2 computer running WinNT. I am thinking about upgrading my computer in order to handle greater DAQ speeds. My question is concerning the compatibility issue between Windows Xp and LabVIEW 4.0.1. Has anyone tried LabVIEW 4.0.1 with XP; any success? or do I have to upgrade to a newer version of LabVIEW.
Thank you for your help,
Regards,
RTsen

Windows XP was first supported with LabVIEW 6.1. Now, it's always possible that it could work with 4.0.1, but it's very likely that you'll run into some problems. I would suggest upgrading to LabVIEW 6.1. Not only are you likely to experience less problems with the new OS, but you will always gain a lot of new tools in the upgrade from 4.0.1 to 6.1.

  • Labview 7.0 is compatable with Labview Imaq6.1 , vision builder 6.0 and Imaq run time engine 6.0.

    Sir,
My system is PXI 8174 and i an using NI 1411 card for my application. I want to know the compatability of the softwares. Whether Labview 7 is compatable with Labview Imaq 6.1 , vision builder 6.0 and Imaq run time engine 6.0.

    Hi,
Assuming you meant IMAQ Vision 6.1 instead of IMAC 6.1, this software was intended to run on LabVIEW 5.1, 6.0, and 6.1.  I have heard of it being used with LabVIEW 7 on occasion, so it may be possible to make it work, but this has not been tested and is not officially supported.  Vision Builder 6.0 should run; however, it was developed long before LabVIEW 7.x and will not generated code for LabVIEW 7.0 and later.  The Vision RTE version should correspond to the version of Vision you are using.  For instance, if the program was developed with Vision 6.1, the computer should have the Vision 6.1 RTE installed.  With this being said, if you plan to use LabVIEW 7, I recommend updating your other software.

  • Is it possible to run my Labview software in Windows 7

    Hi there,
I currently use Labview 8.2.1 and Labview DSC 8.2.1.
But within a short time I want to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7.
    My question now is:
Is it possible to switch to Windows 7 without any problems?
Will the Labview software still run under Windows 7 without problems, or do I have to download new drivers or other software?
I hope to get a reaction soon.

    Hi Cheese,
Official LabVIEW support/compatibility with Windows 7 is explained under the following articles.
National Instruments Product Compatibility for Microsoft Windows 7
    Windows Version Compatibility with LabVIEW
LabVIEW Module and Toolkit Compatibility Information
On the forums, people seemed to have mixed reviews about older versions of LabVIEW with newer versions of Windows 7. Another piece of food for thought is Windows 7 (some versions) contain a "Windows XP Mode", which MAY allow you to run this version of LabVIEW in 7 however as the above articles show this is not the supported version. Essentially the XP mode allows virtualisation of XP OS on Windows 7. I've not personally tried it with this version of LabVIEW, but it's just an idea!
    Windows Virtual PC
Upgrading to the latest version of LabVIEW will work and is fully supported.
    Hope this may help

  • Where can one fine TCP socet server and client example VI's for Labview 6.0

We've inherited an older system containing two PXI systems and one PC.  The Labview -6.0 programs running on the three systems need to be rewritten from ground zero.
In hopes of saving a great amount of time, I am looking for a couple of TCP socket VI's that can be used to set up communications between the applications.  There doesn't appear to be a backwards compatibility from examples found in newer versions of Labview.
    Thanks,

    Why backwards compatibility?
Look in examples/comm/tcpex.llb. Those examples are still mostly unchanged in the newer LabVIEW versions too.

  • Plot editor in LabVIEW.

    Hello,
In MATLAB there is an option to save the plot as *.png or other formats and also somethink like *.fig. Later when the user wants to check the plot he can load the *.fig file into the figure editor and can be edited which makes easy for the user to recheck the data.
Is there any such functionality or driver or application even in LabVIEW?

@ CMW: I am aware of this export option but it is used  for saving data in excel, as a graphics(*.png,*.bmp*.eps,...). This was not my question.  Even if you save the data in excel you still to write another program to import the data and plot. if you compare the option with matlab  first you plot the data and then save as *.fig. Later some time later may be after 100 years or so.... if you open *.fig file you can even recolor, change the label of the x and y axis and so on... Is labview has such a compatability??

  • LabView 8.2.1 and DAQmx Base with Linux

    Hey,
we use LabView 8.2.1 here with Linux. Recently the new version of NI-VISA (5.0.0) and DAQmx Base (3.4) were released and work with OpenSuSE 11.2. But there is no integration of DAQmx Base into LabView 8.2.1 in the iso file.
Is there a possibility to implement that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

    Hello Alex,
thank you for posting at the National Instruments Forum. It is not possible, to use the latest NI-DAQmx Base Driver 3.4 with LabVIEW 8.2:
    NI-DAQmx Base 3.4 supports
    - LabVIEW 2010
    - LabVIEW 2009
    - LabVIEW 8.6.x and
    - LabVIEW 8.5.x
If you need LabVIEW 8.2.x support, you have to use NI-DAQmx Base 3.3, this one supports
    - LabVIEW 2009
    - LabVIEW 8.6.x
    - LabVIEW 8.5.x and
    - LabVIEW 8.2.x
It is not possible to add LabVIEW 8.2.x compatibility to NI-DAQmx Base 3.4. I hope, this clarifies the version compatibility.

  • LabView and Keithley PC488-Card

    Hi,
I hope somebody can solve my problem: I have a Keithley PC<>488
GPIB-Interface installed and want to get it work with LabView. There are
compatibility-drivers shipped with the interface, but they don't work.
The driver is installed, but I can't communicate (through LabView) with
    the PC488.
My System runs under Windows NT. I can exclude hardware conflicts,
because under DOS (test programs that come with pc488) communication
    works.
    Thanks,

    Hi Michael
I have had the same problem.
My keithley card is an old XT slot card
This card is a CEC card .
    On http://www.cec488.com/gpibupgd.htm you
    can download the driver to
    simulate an NI-Gpib card.
Than you must install the driver with ADD new Hardware , Find Capital
    Equipment Corp. etc.
    THe LAbview GPIB.vi works fine.

  • Why am I getting this error message?????

Here is the error message word for word...
" Measurement & Automation Explorer or the Instrument I/O assistant is not installed correctly.  Please install these from the LabViEW Driver CD"
Here is what I have done so far I have repaired my Measurement and Automation Explorer, repaired NI-488.2 2.4, repaired NI-VISA 4.3.  Also I have noticed everytime I disconnect and reconnect my GPIB-USB-HS my computer acts like it has never seen it before and treats it as a new device...is this a related problem to what I am seeing above.  My current software versions are LabVIEW 7.1, Automation Explorer 4.4, NI-VISA 4.3, and NI-488.2 2.40.  What is the problem here I need this to interface a Aeroflex unit.
Also what installs the Instrument I/O assistant functionality is it the NI-488 drivers?  I really need to figure this out.
    V/r,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
What version of DAQmx are you using?  You tried repairing most of your other drivers but didn't say anything about DAQmx.  DAQmx is on your LabVIEW Driver CD but that will most likely be a pretty old version.  You might want to upgrade that to at least 8.5, but LabVIEW 7.1 is compatable with the latest DAQmx driver which is 8.8.  You can download a new version at our website at the drivers and updates link.  Just search for DAQmx and select the one you want to download.

  • Runtime engine clash?

Anyone know if it's possible to install LV2011 and LV2013 run time engines on the same machine? I want to run some older exes alongside their newer counterparts.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
For some additional general information about exactly which Runtime Engines can be installed with each other, take a look at the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine Compatibility Knowledgebase article. It has a bit of additional information explaining the compatibility with SP1 versions and 64-bit vs 32-bit.

    Hello,
Thanks for posting on the National Instruments' forum. However, here is an English forum. Please post in English or post on the French forum.
In order to modify the range of your Pointer Slide in a cluster, use "VI Server Reference" in the "Application Control" Functions panel. Then, with a left click, choose Pane-->Cluster-->Slide. Finally, add a "Property Node" and select what parameter you would like to change.
Please find as attachment the VI I built to illustrate what I just explained to you. I saved it in LabVIEW 2009 for the compatibility.
Tell me if it's what you was looking for.

  • Old PID VIs compared to new ones

    Hello,
I need to "translate" or "convert" some PID parameters from an old project, written in LabView 6.1 to use it with the new LabView pid toolkit. I have LabView 2012 SP1 with PID toolkit.
When I open one of the old VIs, I can see a subVI called:
    "NI_PID__autopid compat.lvlib: PID with autotuning.VI"
I looked inside, as much I as see, here the integral term is a multiplier. In the new PID toolkit manual, it is written that, the integral term is a divider in the PID equation.
Does it mean that, if I have an integral term in the old VIs like 30 minutes, I have to take its reciprocal, if I want to get the same behaviour for the integral term in my new PID toolkit?
    thanks for help,
    Regards,

    Hi,
I am not sure but shouldn't you be able to open the old VI's with LabVIEW 2012 as shown in the following link:

  • Windows 7 Compatability with Labview 8.0 and missing files while interfacing the FPGA with LV

I am trying to use an FPGA (PCI-7830R) with Labview 8.0. The computer has Windows 7 OS. I installed LV 8.0 in the proper order with the FPGA Module and labview is able to see the FPGA when I open a .lvproj (the FPGA is in the tree) however there is a warning symbol next to the FPGA selection and when I try to open a .vi file that is used on the other stations in my lab (it works on all the other stations), labview is unable to find a whole bunch of files. There are some pictures.
Missing File (there are a bunch more but this is the fist one).

  • Serial Compatibility VI's not working in Labview 7.0

I recently upgraded from Labview 6.02 to Labview 7.0 and found that my application could no longer open or communicate via a serial port.
My application uses and I prefer the old serial compatibility VI's because I had trouble with the VISA serial VI's. And the new, Labview 7.0 turned the old serial compatibility VI's into VISA serial VI's.
For anyone interested in using the old serial compatibility VI's, here is one way to get them back, and working properly.
    1) Find a computer with an older version of Labview, probably 6.02 or older.
    2) Replace the following v 7.0 *.llb files: "_sersup.llb" and "serial.llb" with these v 6.* or earlier files: "_sersup.llb" and "Serial.llb".
    3) Also copy this file "serp
drv" from your root v 6.* or earlier folder into your root v 7.0 folder.
    That worked for me.
I sincerely hope that Labview will consider replacing the serial compatibility vi's in any future versions or patches with the original ones.
    Tom

The only advantage of serial compatibility is cross-platform, and you
get this with visa too. If you are creating an exe then you have to
install the visa runtime engine. If you want to stick with Windows
programs I have found that the MSComm control called with activex is
much more flexible. Also, in order to get write access to the MS Comm
control (writing a LabVIEW program) you have to install some trivial
microsoft enviroment like visual basic, this licenses the control for
both writing and using. When you distribute the application the control
    is automatically licensed for use.
Anyway, thanks for the app note on serpdrv.
