XP on 3000 K100

I attached a new SATA drive and disabled the factory drive (disconnected its power and SATA cables) and then tried installing Windows XP using original Microsoft CDs.
At the point where the first RESTART is required, the K100 crashes into a BLUE SCREEN.
Any ideas???
Also - why does it seem that the computer "pauses" for a couple of seconds between POST and to the point where it starts loading the OS??? Additionally, the BIOS sees all the hard drives, but the drives are NOT visible using imaging software such as ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE when the system is booted using the Acronis RECOVERY CD?

Hi Steve !
Can you please tell me where I can locate the correct drivers for this system for Windows XP ?  I attempted to find them on the Lenovo website but when I type in the Desktop Serial Number, since this system was originally configured using Windows Vista, those are the only driver choices presented when searching this system out on the lenovo website..  It would be nice if they gave you the option of choosing what operating system you'd prefer to download the drivers for when plugging in this Desktop computer's Serial Number, etc...
Any help with my question would be most appreciated as I am attempting to load Windows XP on this system for a customer, which I have done successfully, however, I still need to load the correct drivers for the motherboard and some of the on-board peripherals..
Thanks in advance Steve !  If you can help, please e-mail me direct to my regular e-mail address given below as it would be easier for me to get your answer that way instead of having to re-check this forum, etc..
Best regards,
Mark...  [email protected]

  • Second Hard Drive Caddy (Mounting Rails) - 3000 K100

I need to install a second 3.5" hard drive in my 3000 K100 Desktop.  Unfortunately I dragged my feet and called technical support just after my one-year warranty ended.
Is there 1) Any way to mount the hard drive without one of those plastic caddies or (preferably) 2) a place I can buy one or two of those plastic caddies?
I have been searching everywhere on the internet and cannot find where to buy these or even an alternative.
    Thanks,

I have a Lenovo 3000 k100 that I am installing a second SATA hard drive.
I found the blue drive rails on eBay at --
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270468028776&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIB...
You will also need 90 degree SATA power and data cables.  Also on eBay at --
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270463824414&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIB...
I have the rails, but the SATA connectors hit the cover without the 90 degree angle. I ordered the new cables just today.

  • [Desktop 3000 K100] Successful Windows 7 upgrade/install?

    Hi,
I recently decided to move from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on my Lenovo Desktop 3000 K100 machine.
I already decided to go with a custom/clean install(I'm experienced in that area), instead of using the upgrade feature.
The question is that, have any of You(the 3000 K100 owners) tried and successfully moved to Windows 7 themselves, and now are happily enjoying the new OS, with no issues?
I've noticed that the K100 system is not listed in the "upgrade capable systems list":
    http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/htmls/1256358540190.html
But then again does Lenovo mean the actual "Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program", where they provide you with the free license for intended Windows 7 OS(you do pay for delivery of the Windows 7 dvd though, if I'm correct), or just that the drivers do not exist for the OS.
If it's the second reason, then I believe there's no worries since many articles on the web said that Windows Vista is essentially Windows 7 in a newer candy wrapping. Hence all the drivers should be working fine and be compatible for it.
I also ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory, and at the beginning it told me that I should upgrade my Vista to SP1 before doing the upgrade. I did so successfully and now the Upgrade Advisory says that I'm set for the Windows 7(Not sure why I had to install SP1 thought, after all I'm doing a clean install). Even all the drivers were checked/marked as compatible for the Windows 7.
Already made all the necessary backups so I'm good there.
I did notice one post on these forums about the owner of 3000 K100 having major problems with Windows 7 upgrade. The post is located here:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/desktop-3000-K100-Windows-7-upgrade-problem-STOP-0x...
He did mention that he had made a bios update, and that might have been the main problem(I never touch bios, nor update it unless it is essential thing to do for me), but then again I may be very wrong about it.
So here I'm asking You, the owner of 3000 K100, if the move from Windows Vista to Windows 7 was smooth for you, or did you encouter problems and therefore should I stay away from that idea?

    HI,
i've a Lenovo 3000 K100 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits : it's working very well. No drivers to install, very stable.

  • 3000 K100 Always boots into Onekey Recovery

I have a 3000 k100.  At one point I told the windows software to make a Onekey Backup.  The comptuer rebooted and started running the "Onekey Recovery" software.  However it hangs and never finishes.  Everytime I shutdown and reboot it goes into the "Onekey Recovery".    It starts no matter what bottable medium i have in the computer (boot cd, usb).
If I mess with the bios settings and cause a bios error on startup,  the computer will boot normally into windows.
Is there someway to remove this system level Recovery Software,  or remove its override on the boot sequence.

As far as I can tell you is that you need to DO the one key recovery because if you don't and re-boot you risk the chance of screwing a few sectors that contain the recovery info on it. That hidden Partition is the area where all the software is at and NOT on the recovery CD.
Let the computer finish the recovery and then you can continue on to a normal windows OS. If it does not finish it will recycle it self till it does.
As far as I can tell.
    Hope that helps.

  • [NEW HDD for 3000 K100]

    Hello everyone,
May I replace the old HDD (already formated/partitions and lost everything on it) with new HDD by only using recovery CD to get the system (Vista OS) up and running?
Your answer will be much appreciated.

You should look into something called Acronis true image. I see in the Lenovo forums about people using them all the time with no problems what so ever. An example is someone used it to copy the old drive to a new drive (like your wanting to do) and booted up with no problems. They had everything. The only thing I did see is that you can not put it to a smaller drive (don't see why someone would want to do that anyways)

  • 3000 K100 does nothing but beep

    Model #: 57068347
    OS: Windows Vista
I went to bed and the computer was working. I wake up the following morning, the screen is blank, and the machine is doing nothing but beeping. I tried cycling the power and still nothing. No POST screen, no response from the keyboard, nothing. Just repeated beeps from the speaker and that's it.
I cruised through the support forums a bit and didn't find much that was useful. Anyone got any ideas?
    thanks!

    epicdave,
What can you tell us about the beeping?  Generally with PCs, there will be a series of long and short beeps in some kind of repeating pattern which can indicate what component is causing the trouble.
Can you discern the number of beeps before the pattern repeats?
Failing that, or more generically I would suspect memory, system board, power supply.   I'm going to suggest that if you are still in warranty that you contact service.   If you are outside of warranty, I'll offer the following things I might try...
    1) Memory - remove and reseat the memory.  While you have each module out, check the condition of the little gold contacts.  If they look dull or have dull spots where the contact is made (you will see the slight rub marks where the socket engages each tiny contact pad on the module)  you can gently use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the memory - just rub the eraser back and forth a couple times gently and then wipe away any of the eraser material.  Re-insert in the sockets and try to power on the PC again.
    2) System board - could be any number of componenet failures which would require a board replacement.  Depending on the BIOS, the beep codes can sometimes identify which component to confirm the diagnosis.  Try removing any expansion cards and power up again.
    3) Power supply - less likely as it sounds like it is working to some level since the system is beeping.

  • My K100 doesn't want to go to sleep anymore

I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem. Up until last week I was able to put my K100 to sleep and come back later, wake it up and continue working. This weekend my PC started acting up, the whole windows toolbar on the bottom froze (I kept thinking it was 1:30pm when it was almost 3pm) and when I was trying to swap windows it started flickering a bit, so I logged off, logged back in and it was fine. Since I thought it was a bug, I ran the PC-cillin antivirus that came with the computer, but it didn't seem to find anything and I never trusted it anyway. So I uninstalled the antivirus and immediately installed AVG and Adaware. The results: both told me the computer was clean.
Now, after all that, I noticed yesterday that my PC is not going to sleep, I click on the sleep option, it tries to go to sleep but immediately comes back up, then I click on Sleep again and it goes to sleep, but a few seconds later it comes back up.
Any ideas on why this could be happening? do you think it could be AVG or Adaware? or could it be because I uninstalled that antivirus that was going to expire in less than 3 weeks anyway?
    Any help will be appreciated!

I dont use sleep, but hibernate. Either way, your network card might be waking it up. Go to start, control panel, classic view, network and sharing center, manage network connections.
Then rt click on local area connection - properties, then configure the intel.....connection - go to advanced tab. At the bottom of the list is "wake on settings and wake on link settings - change to disabled.
Another place to confirm settings is under power management mode - uncheck the wake computer boxes.
I seem to have less computer problems returning from hibernate than returning from sleep mode. I let system turn of monitor, but never let it go to sleep. Under advanced power settings, these can be programmed. However,
I made the following short cut on my desk top called hibernate:
    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState Hibernate

  • Tried to install XP Pro, Deleted Restore Partition, Now Lenovo 3000 = Useless Paperweight

I ordered a Lenovo 3000 K100 57068347 from TigerDirect back in April with the intention of using it as a remote help desk workstation and a virus definition 'server'...
Well anyway, it shipped with Vista Home Premium, and I was much more interested in having XP on it for obvious reasons.
Last night, I attempted to install XP by booting off an XP Pro SP2 volume install CD. Everything was going well until it tried to load the HDD controller drivers and the install bluescreened -- I've had this experience with other Lenovos in the past and I know just to disable ACHI and set it to "compatible" IDE mode and it will work.
This time, all the drivers loaded without a problem, and the install began. I got to the screen where you choose the partition to install, and I chose to delete the first 2, and leave the restore partition alone. I wanted a clean XP install with as much HDD space as possible while still leaving me a parachute instead I needed to restore to factory default.
Problem was, once the system rebooted to continue the XP install, I got a "cannot read from disk -- press ctrl-alt-del to restart" in BIOS. No matter how many different ways I tried to configure the ATA options in the BIOS, I kept either getting a blue screen (when in ACHI mode) or the message above (when configured any other way).
Like an idiot, I thought -- "hey, maybe the restore partition is causing some conflict" and in haste, I deleted that partition too, thinking "there's no way I can't get a XP install on this totally clean drive." Well of course you know by virtue of me posting this message that didn't solve anything, and I kept getting the "cannot read from disk -- push ctrl-alt-del to restart" message.
So I decided... might as well use the restore DVD that came with the system and start over. This is where I started to hit the roof..... I booted off the LENOVO-PROVIDED VISTA SYSTEM RESTORE DVD, and when I got to the "choose a disk/partition to install to," I selected the now clean 298gb partition, and clicked next.
Imagine my shock and horror when the install gave me an error that "Windows cannot find a suitable volume to install." Keep in mind, I'm staring a brand new clean 298gb partition in Windows install, and it's telling me it cannot find a suitable volume to install to. At the bottom, there was another error message that said (paraphrased) "This system may not be able to boot off the selected disk." This makes me think again that it doesn't have the correct driver to boot off the disk.
I tried it in ACHI mode, IDE compatible mode.... again trying every possible combination to get it to work. Nothing. Then I remembered -- "Ahh the Vista driver pack CD" that also came with the restore DVD. Pop that in, choose "load driver" for the disk, scan the entire CD, NOTHING....
So, to make a long story longer, I now have a $500 Dual Core 1.6ghz 3gb 300gb paperweight sitting under my desk. I can't boot off and install using the XP CD, I can't boot off and install using the Lenovo restore DVD, and I can't even boot off and install Vista Ultimate off a DVD that I had.
    Can anyone tell me:
    1) What the hell drivers do I need to make the XP install work? I would REALLY like XP above all else.
    2) Why the hell doesn't the Lenovo system restore DVD work? Why would Vista not be able to boot off and install the disk when it's the manufacturer-provided disk to restore your system to factory state??
    3) (more of a side note) Why does my serial number display as "invalid" in BIOS and also as "invalid" when I attempt to enter it on the Lenovo support site? This scares the hell out of me -- if I call, they're probably just going to tell me it's invalid. Can I get support from ANYWHERE with this issue? I'm not very happy with Lenovo at this point (but I'm just looking for a scapegoat to blame my own haste on)
    Help!!

My apologies for the frustration that you have felt with your system.  I just want to let you know that this is not a normal experience and I will help as much as possible to get you back towards having a working system.  My experience with these boxes is rather limited since we do not normally see many escalations on them here but I will do my best to answer your concerns/issues.
    1)  The support site is still segmented a bit for the Lenovo IdeaCentre and Ideapad systems.  For your K series desktop you have to go here to get drivers/support docs.  All the available drivers should be downloadable from this link.  Unfortunately I don't see any XP Drivers listed for that system however.  You may have to locate drivers from the chipset manufacturers sites themselves if you want to go with a retail copy of XP.  I've also found that the latest service pack for XP contains updates to many drivers and may contain the ones you need.
    2)  Your Recovery CD set should work.  Have you tried booting off of the first CD?  What errors are you encountering?
    3)  have you recently had anything that could have wiped out the BIOS settings?  I'm curious because normally the machine type and serial are loaded from the factory.
    4)  For your XP Installation it appears that you got all of the XP files installed on the drive but when you rebooted it then lost site of the HDD?  Is it seen in the BIOS?  If so you may just have a Master Boot record that got scrambled.  You can run FDISK /MBR using a XP Boot diskette and that should fix the issue if that is the source.  You'll know its fixed if you get the xp logo soon after you reboot.
I would suggest that you contact the Consumer support line and get the system serviced ASAP.  They can get the serial number loaded properly, fix the startup sequence problem it appears your having, and get the system reloaded properly.

  • RAID on K100 - TigerDirect says it is an option

The TigerDirect Web site says that the Lenovo 3000 K100 can be configured for Raid 0,1,5 or 10.
I called TigerDirect and they said that it is a BIOS configuration change and operating system re-install.  They also said that I could get information from Lenovo about doing this.
I have looked all over your web site and find no information for installing Raid.
Where do I find that information?

To enter bios you press f1 on start up. Probably not answering your complete qustion. Tried to find a tutorial on the lenovo bios but could never.Tech support was reluctant to explain this to me. Just came accross this link https://www.ibm.com/account/profile/us?page=reg&okURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww14.software.ibm.com%2Fwebapp%... Here you possibly may get more info.

Did u download the correct one? I checked this page and found there are 2 different bios available for different bios ID.
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKG)
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKT)
Also, i saw the release date is 2009-03-25, and the download link showed the text as 2SJG33A and not the one with K. Where did u download actually?
Btw, U have to check ur bios ID before installing the correct ones. Follow the description in the page for steps to check the ID.
