Xp pro config question with cold fusion(newbie)

Hello,
I'm a beginner and I want to learn studio mx 2004.In trying
to learn Macromedia MX for windows ,I've gone thru the installation
process in the manual for installing Cold Fusion for the server
side of things.My question is, I'm not sure if IIS is mnadatory in
order to use cold fusion.Is it a case of using one or the other or
is the IIS service required to run Cold Fusion? Also im using cold
fusion5 is cold fusion mx = to cold fusion 6.1?

Thanks for answering. Is there any benefits to running both
servers? I
don't want to confuse myself with too many
options.Essentially,I could
learn Dreamweaver (my ultimate goal) by using either
installation.
No, while it is possible to run multiple versions of CF, it
takes extra
configurations to do so. I would say this is unnecessary for
just
learning. I would strongly suggest upgrading. CF 5 is the
oldest and
most limited version of CF still officially supported by
Adobe. The
latest version is 7.0.2. There is a huge, major, complete
rewrite of CF
and many other bug fixes and enhancements between CF 5.x and
the current
version.
The current version and all versions of CF are free for
download from
Adobe for a personal development copy. If you do so now,
before you
start writing code, the upgrade install IIRC is quite
painless and will
use the configurations you have already chosen.

  • How to convert/download videos embedded with cold fusion?

    Does anyone know of a free video conversion software that will convert and download online videos embedded with cold fusion ("cfmid=?") format/extension?  I tried a few online sites and they do not support that format yet.   Please help.  Thank you so much!

    Actually COLD FUSION was a hoax a few years ago. COLDFUSION is the app.
    If you need content from a web site, talk to the developer.
    fwiw - Since ColdFusion is an Adobe app, you should try asking your question on that forum. This one is here to primarily support Shake.
    Have fun.

  • SQL server with Cold Fusion?

    Hi everyone,
    I am supposed to write a website, that its database is SQL
    server and about 80,000 - 100,000 records in there.
    is it OK to go with cold fusion? OR better to go with .NET
    for faster and more reliable speed?
    I would appreciate your help.

    The app server generally doesn't care so long as it supports
    the DB driver. If the database is designed properly, the DBMS will
    be doing most of the "grunt" work.
    Any enterprise level app server can process a large database,
    so go with your strengths, and SQL server will do you just fine.
    I also wouldn't say .NET is faster ... I've seen my share of
    sites using .NET that are slow as molasses. Your server
    configuration will determine that more often than the app server,
    so long as it is an enterprise level app server ... both of which
    .NET and CF are.
    We run a SQL server for many clients and all are on CF ...
    one table alone has over 250,000 records in it. What and how you
    output will determine the speed between the 2, not how many records
    it can handle.

  • What's happening with cold fusion?!

    first, this very page is throwing js errors in both ie8 and firefox 24.0  , i can't reply to any posts
    then, with all this flurry of security breaches on gov websites running cold fusion, do we have a comprehensive white paper showing how to plug all the security holes that were uncovered?

    Site seems to be working fine for me.  As to plugging security holes,
    there are two things you need to do:
    1.      Keep your servers updated with the latest patch(es).  If you are
    on CF10, use the built-in automatic updater.  If on CF8 or CF9, take a
    look at David Epler's Unofficial Updater project.
    2.      Follow the appropriate ColdFusion lockdown guide for the version
    you are running.
    For CF9:

    For CF10:

  • SQL Server 2008/2008 R2 compatiblity with Cold Fusion 5.0

    Our Cold Fusion Server is on Version 5.0 and database server is running SQL 2000. DBA's like to upgrade SQL Server to 2008/ R2. Is there any known issues in running or upgrading from Cold Fusion 5.0 with SQL Server 2008/R2 ?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Suresh Kumar

    If you're looking at spending thousands on a SQL licence, has no-one considered buying a CF9 license? You'd save yourself a whole world of pain, and could then have a full 64-bit environment for your application which is tried and tested.

  • Problems with Cold Fusion Forms

    Hey Everybody -
    Pretty new to these forums and cold fusion in general. I
    created a number of forms in cold fusion for a school. They sign up
    for classes and when they fill out ALL text fields they
    successfully submit the form and they see a success page. Sounds
    great right? well kind of.
    If a user doesnt fill out the entire form, and submits it
    gives them an error with coldfusion errors. So I am faced with a
    few choices. I can either: have the form forward them to an error
    page instead of the coldfusion error, or if there's a way I can
    fill in the null values so that there isnt a problem with nulls. I
    want to have validation but I want it in a seperate page since I
    dont have the room to add errors in the form itself.
    Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

    I always do ALL my form validations with a client-side JS
    **and** with server-side CF.
    I don't use <cfform>, I know <cfform> is
    dependant on the java version the user has installed on their end.
    I know I came across quite a few issues where on one machine the
    <cfform> worked fine, and on another it konked out.
    Anways, this is one of my most basic forms:
    =============================================
    PAGE1.cfm
    <html>
    <head>
    <script>
    function validate() {
    var IA = document.ContactUs;
    var errorMSG = "";
    if(IA.FullName.value == "") {errorMSG += "Full Name\n";}
    if(IA.Email.value == "") {errorMSG += "Email\n";}
    if(errorMSG != "") {
    alert("The following fields are required:\n\n" + errorMSG);
    return false;
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    <form name="ContactUs" action="page1_x.cfm" method="post"
    onSubmit="return validate();">
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td align="right">Name: </td>
    <td align="left"><input type="text" name="FullName"
    maxlength="50" size="25"></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td align="right">Email Address: </td>
    <td align="left"><input type="text" name="Email"
    maxlength="50" size="25"></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td align="right">Comments: </td>
    <td align="left"><textarea name="Comments"
    cols="20" rows="5" id="comments"></textarea></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td colspan="2">
    <input type="submit" name="SubmitContact"
    value="Submit">
    <input type="reset" name="Reset" value="Reset">
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    =============================================
    =============================================
    page1_x.cfm
    <cfif isdefined("FORM.SubmitContact") and FORM.FullName
    NEQ "" and FORM.Email NEQ "">
    <!--- is all is OK, do whatever it is you want to do.
    --->
    <cfelse>
    <!--- if the submit button was no clicked, fullname and
    email (required fields) not filled out, send them back to the form
    --->
    <cflocation url="page1.cfm?status=1" addtoken="no">
    </cfif>
    =============================================
    Now, there is sooooo much more you can here for a full blown
    error-proof script. You can also check if the e-mail is a valid
    e-mail (server side), and if the field is a numeric field (like zip
    code, phone number, etc) then check if that field is valid, etc.
    This is just a run-of-mill simple form and validation
    submission using both client-side JS and server-side code.

  • Mac Pro - Config Questions

    In anticipation of a newly updated Mac Pro line and in anticipation of me purchasing my first ever Mac Pro, having already had 2 iMacs, I was wanting to get some input from you fine folks here and tell me what is working well and perhaps even some hints on what to get and buy from in regard to RAM, internal hard drives and graphics cards, if there are some other options for graphic cards where I can save some money.

    Sorry about leaving out my use of the Mac Pro.
    I do plan on using 3rd party hard drives, RAM, etc and from all the reading I have been doing I AM planning on letting Apple install the bluetooth and wireless card for me since everyone points out it is tough to do on your own, etc. I was mainly wanting to know what 3rd party RAM and hard drives were working out for some of you, specify brand names if you would.
    I will be using it to record music via Logic Pro 8, play games via Bootcamp and also work on video editing, capturing...so a bit of it all really and pictures of course.
    How is the sound card in the Mac Pro by the way? I am finding that I am getting a bit of noise coming out of my analog output when playing the one game I like to play on the Windows side and a bit of crackle out of some tracks recorded on LP8. I am assuming the sound card is a bit better and of better quality than the one in the non-aluminum verison iMac? If it is the same, are you able to install sound cards such as the Creative X-Fi line as you can with PC's? I had an X-Fi Music card for my PC and it was nice sounded better than the onboard motherboard sound that I had on my VAIO.

  • Polls with cold fusion(maz)

    Hi, Does anybody know how to create a poll with CF?

    A poll is really just a form with a radio selection in it ...
    what you do with it after that is up to you and there as many ways
    to play with the data as there are developers.
    If you want to auto-graph the results use CFCHART otherwise
    you can just show totals and percentages.

  • Flashbuilder and Cold Fusion  (using application/session variables)

    I would like to know if anybody uses Flashbuilder with Cold Fusion?
    Since Cold Fusion has lots of different scopes of variables (application, session, client, form, url, etc...) how do you manage this in Flex/Flashbuilder?
    Are there forums or groups specifically for using Flex3/Flashbuilder with backend server side technologies such as Cold Fusion?.
    The only server side technology that I have interest in is Cold Fusion.  I've seen basic tutorials and videos using Cold Fusion CFC's and data binding with Flex.  I haven't seen or heard anything using a Cold Fusion application, session, or client variable in Flex.
    Hopefully some of you have some experience on this topic.
    Thanks

    hey popster,
    i too had this question some time ago. my entire app was built on CF with HTML before i started integrating Flex 3 with it. i found that i needed to create cookie variables for all my session variables i was using in order to maintain and remember who the user was in my CFC calls. i also found that after i compiled a flex app, i changed the .html to .cfm (the file that loads the compiled SWF file). by doing this i was able to pass CF session variables into the flex app and you can refer to these anywhere in Flex by using Application.application.parameters.{variable name here}
    add the CF variable in the FlashVars line to pass it into Flex (see the last line of code). this will create a variable (in my case i'm passing session.employeenumber). then in your flex app you can reference it by using Application.application.parameters.emplid:
    AC_FL_RunContent(
       "src", "Request",
       "width", "100%",
       "height", "87%",
       "align", "middle",
       "id", "Request",
       "quality", "high",
       "bgcolor", "#869ca7",
       "name", "Request",
       "allowScriptAccess","sameDomain",
       "type", "application/x-shockwave-flash",
       "pluginspage", "http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer",
       "wmode","transparent",
       "FlashVars","emplid=<cfoutput>#session.employeenumber#</cfoutput"
    A little trick I learned (does Adobe really expect us to re-engineer how our apps have been working by no longer using sessions for Flex?). Then in your CFCs if you also create cookies for every session variable you can maintain the variables based on user login. HOPE THIS HELPS!

  • Is this course using Cold Fusion.

    I'm at the point where I need to decide what to learn ,I-phone SDK or flash builder vs catalyst.
    If this course done with Cold Fusion?

    I don't have an opinion on the iPhone SDK, but I suggest you learn Flash Builder if you consider yourself a programmer and Flash Catalyst if you consider yourself a designer. Some people will likely crossover between the programs since they can work together.
    The Flex in a Week training series (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/videotraining/) will teach you Flash Builder. You can learn about Flash Catalyst on the Getting Started page (http://www.adobe.com/support/flashcatalyst/gettingstarted/index.html).
    In regard to your CF question: Yes, Flex in a Week uses ColdFusion for the backend, but that doesn't really matter. The series is set up so that the focus is on the Flex code. You can use any backend technology.
    If you are already a ColdFusion developer who wants to get oriented to Flex development, you can start with the articles and tutorials on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_cf.html
    There are similar pages for PHP, Java and .NET developers:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_php.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_java.html

  • Oracle Sequence Vs autoincrement feature in cold fusion-Weird error!!!

    When a oracle sequence is used with cold fusion there is a problem with sequence generation. It generates sequence
    like "5,4,6,5...."etc. It works fine when using the autoincrement feature. Our application demands using the sequence from oracle.
    Have you come across any problem as this? Can anyone tell me if there is any disadvantage using oracle sequence with cold fusion.
    Please let me know the disadvantages of the same if any...
    Thanks!
    Janani.

    This was definitely the right answer, I thought ODAC was already installed on the server, but apparently not. I installed the 64-bit OCAC XCopy version on the server and now it works.

  • Cold Fusion license

    Hi,
    I have a question on Cold Fusion license.
    Have Cold Fusion 9 Enterprise but cannot find the license key.
    Have Cold Fusion 10 Enterprise and have the license key.
    Can the license key for CF 10 be used for the CF 9 key?
    Can the license key for CF9 be obtained somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    If you can provide proof to Adobe that you purchased CF9 Ent, I'm sure Adobe can re-send you the key for CF9 Ent.
    AFAIK, the key for CF10 can NOT be used for CF9.  They're probably not even the same format.  I'm guessing.
