XP SP3 BACK TO SP2

I have the error message "The ODBC resource DLL (C:\WINDOWS\system32\odbcint.dll) is a different version than the ODBC driver manager (C:WINDOWS\ODBC32.dll)".  The MS web site says to reinstall MDAC.  It also says MDAC comes with XP SP2.
Which I installed some years ago and am now running SP3.  Can I install SP2 over SP3 to restore the MDAC and then reinstall SP3?  If not what can I do?
Thanks for any help.

No, I dont think downgrade is possible. Also, you should look into moving to Windows 7 now, its hardly 2 months left for Win XP :)

  • SLES sp3 w/OES11 sp2 media upgrade reboot to cursor

    Pre-upgrade
Sles 11 SP2, OES11 SP1, VMware 5.1 essentials on an Gen 8 HP Proliant DL380, plenty of RAM and CPU
I ran the upgrade media on a test server and everything seemed to go fine a couple of weeks ago. My school district is on spring break, so I decided to do some upgrades. I ran the update media on our one and only file storage production server. I left the upgrade options default, only updating existing packages (I checked to make sure what we are using was upgraded) and I received no errors during the install. Upon reboot, after the VMware splash screen, it just stays at a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen. I tried to use system repair from the disk. It wanted to reinstall grub, but it hung on installing grub for 20+ minutes. I'm rerunning the repair now. Any other suggestions? I have until Monday to get this fixed. I'm avoiding using my prepaid support hours, but I have them if I need them.

So you originally did an offline upgrade from OES11sp1 to OES11sp2, right?
I'm curious.... do you maybe have a separate partition for /boot?
With what you are saying I can imagine something going wrong with the offline upgrade placing/upgrading boot files in the wrong location (in the /boot folder of the root partition instead of the boot partition), resulting in booting with an old kernel and thus having a mismatch with other files/drivers/libraries that did get updated properly.
Good to hear that you were able to finish the upgrade in good order after having gotten the server boot fixed!

  • [SOLVED] Upgrade from SLES10 SP3 & OES2 SP2 to SP4/SP3 breaks NCS

    Hi folks,
(This post was originally meant to be a rant and a request for help, but
while writing the final paragraph i found the solution. It's still a
rant, but i figured i'd post my solution here in case someone else runs
    into the same issue.)
I've just spent several hours banging my head against a broken cluster
node. My system is a 32-bit SLES 10 VM running on VMware ESX 3.5.x.
I upgraded from SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 to the next service packs for
each (using the move-to-oes-sp3 script in yast2 online_update).
Everything went well for the first few update/reboot sequences, then
after the final reboot on SLES10 SP4 & OES2 SP3, cluster services would
not load or join the cluster on restart.
I checked dmesg and found errors about "Loading module compiled for
kernel version 2.6.16.60-0.54.5-vmi" into a previous kernel version, so
i tried downgrading to that kernel version, only to find that it was
older than the one i had just upgraded from (it's the original SLES10
SP3 kernel). So i tried upgrading back to the same kernel which is
running on the other cluster node (2.6.16.60-0.77.1-vmi), but that did
    not work any better.
    <preaching>
I have to say that i'm not impressed that OES2 SP3 isn't even compiled
against the appropriate kernel, and because of SUSE's kernel RPM
overwrite policy there's no way i can select to boot from a previous
kernel to see if that fixes things. Note to SUSE and other distro
builders: if you're not doing kernel package upgrades like Red Hat or
Ubuntu (so that we can select to boot from the previous kernel from the
boot menu), you're doing it *WRONG*.
    </preaching>
I then upgraded again to the latest recommended kernel for SLES10 SP4,
and still no joy. Dmesg shows this error before the rot starts:
allocation failed: out of vmalloc space - use vmalloc=<size> to increase
    size.
When searching for this error i stumbled across
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
    which pointed me to
    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Common_Pr...lloc_too_small
Adding vmalloc=192M to /boot/grub/menu.lst and rebooting solved the
    problem for me.

    Paul

The system in question has kernel-bigsmp and kernel-vmi installed. We
    only ever boot from kernel-vmi.

When we installed the system (on OES2 SP1, i believe) it was a while
ago, and kernel-vmi with clocksource=acpi_pm on the kernel command line
was the only solution we could find to get reliable time. If there are
updated best-practice documents, i'd be happy to hear about them.
However, this is a production cluster and my boss is (rightly) rather
    reticent to make major changes.
    Paul
the official Vmware paper on time is that IF you're using SLES 10.x 32-bit you will use VMI and NO kernel params (ie, get rid of the clockpit and clocksource=blah).
But if 64-bit then you're okay.
The easiest, IMO (especially with vmware) is to use the miggui (migration utility). That's how I'm converting all my 32-bit servers in vmware to 64-bit. Works quite well.

  • Tecra A8, WinXP SP2 - issue with built-in speakers

    Hello there,
I know this issue has been brought up a few times, but I can't find a solution.
I recently inherited a Toshiba Tecra A8. Problem is : the built-in speakers can't seem to work, but the sound is just fine on external speakers or headphones. The speakers used to work at some point in the past, but the previous owner can not tell me what caused the sudden change.
Here's what I did, chronologically, after browsing multiple forums :
    - SP3 was installed when I got the computer. I tried to revert back to SP2.
    - I've reinstalled XP (had to, machine was too slow). SP2 came with the install CD.
    - I've installed two XP hotfixes that were supposed to solve the problem : KB835221 and KB888111
    - I've re-installed the Realtek Audio HD codec
    - I always try muting/unmuting after everything I do, even before or after a reboot.
Here's what I can tell so far :
    - Sound icon is present on the system tray. All volumes are up, whether on the Windows sound manager or on the Realtek one.
    - I do not have DOS beeps.
    - I'm still on SP2. Didn't try moving on to SP3 (on this new XP install, of course).
    - Before I did reinstall Realtex Audio HD, the "internal" option listed under "I/O audio" was shown, but I couldn't access it. After the reinstall, it simply disappeared.
I think that's pretty much it. I came across the same solutions on different forums or group discussions. I've been searching for two days now, to no avail. The computer has never been dropped or damaged, and since it seems that a lot of people experience(d) the same problem as mine, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem. Well, I hope it's not.
So there. I urge you, nay, I beg you to work your magic and come up with a flawless, absolute solution that will give me back the joy of listening to Justin Bieber in peace. Or something else.
    Thanks in advance !

The speakers dont work but the sound is coming from headphones and external speakers?
Well, this would mean that your sound driver is OK and this is probably a speaker related problem. I think it speaker hardware malfunction :(

  • ###IF YOU UPDATE TO WINDOWS XP SP3 PC SUITE WONT W...

dont update your computer if you want that pc suite works!!!
i just updated my computer to service pack2 to service pack3 XD,but when i tried to connect my phone (Nokia N70)to computer it said that problem with installing.i reinstalled the pcsuite and tried again but it still didnt work!
yhen i get to the nokias web page i discovered that pc suite needs service pack2!!! i dont like to `update` my pc
back to sp2 beause now its working much faster!!
so my Question is is that really so that i have to install the service pack2 back?? or does nokia have that kind of version of pc suite that supports sp3??
anyway now i have tried 3 hours to get some files to my computer and im getting little bored (by the way i DONT have backups i deleted them because i needed a free space
if anyone nows how to get music to my phone plz tell me
now when i have sp3 the phone doesnt even show that its connected.i tried to connect my older phone it showed that its connected but i could not do anything.
IS THE PROBLEM IN WINDOWS SERVICE PACK3?
OR IS IT IN NOKIA PC SUITE AND MY PHONE
OR IS IT BOTH OF THEM?

I have XP SP3 with all updates from Microsoft. I am using the latest Nokia PC Suite (7.1). I use my Nokia N70 as modem to connect to the Internet using GPRS and the USB cable CA-53. I did not have problems on XP SP2 but on XP SP3 my computer crashes and reboots as soon as PC suite tries to connnect to the device to send the password. Modem diagnostics work fine using modem driver from the device manager. I have older mother board Asus P4S800MX with SiS chipset on a desktop system. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, repaired and tried many things but it always goes back to this problem. I thought I fixed it and it worked but then after reboot it failed again. I think problem must be related to what Nokia does when connecting to my N70 as a modem for GPRS connectivity to the Internet.
I can communicate with the phone using contacts and see messages in the Nokia PC Suite when it is started, so it appears that the USB driver is working well to communicate with the phone but using the phone as an Internet modem, I get a crash (no blue screen just a reboot).
I ended up installing Linux Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid and had no problems connecting to the Internet using linux and my Nokia N70 using the same USB CA-53 cable... without the use of any special linux software... just the standard installation of Ubuntu. So I have confirmed that my problem is not hardware related. Also did extensive memory tests of my computer and no failures.
If anyone as any ideas of how I might solve this problem or even how to go about troubleshooting.. that would be greatly appreciated. I have ensured all driver files exist for Nokia Suite related devices as well by examining driver details. I even installed a clean version of XP and all the updates for SP3 and the problem still happens. I am thinking that perhaps SP3 and Nokia PC Suite has some problems with my older N70 phone.
I have searched the Internet for anyone else having my problem but it seems hard to find so I am left with either giving up on Windows when needing the Internet and converting to Linux (Ubuntu) permanently.. and loosing some of the windows things I enjoy.... like video chatting on MSN and Yahoo.
If you can give me suggestions, please don't be scared to include advanced debugging techniques because I am a programmer/analyst.
    CONCLUSION:
    Nokia PC Suite + XP SP3 + N70 + CA-53 + Connect = CRASH!!

  • Photoshop CS3 fails to "open" in Win XP after SP3 upgrading

In both my desktops: P5W Deluxe and P6T after I upgrade my Windows XP from SP2 to Sp3 I cannot open Photoshop CS3 (...Photoshop not respomding...)
I do not think the problem is with Photoshop because my desktop "SEARCH" also does not function.
I hope someone can suggest possible remedies.  When I RESTORE back to SP2 everything is OK. The reason I want to go to SP3 is the 2011 Turbotax "Home & Business" requires SP3!!!!
    I thank you
    Kosmas

Photoshop certainly can work with XP SP3.
I suggest making sure your drivers are all up to date.  For example, go to the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install their latest XP release for your hardware.
You may also want to reinstall Photoshop to ensure all it's prerequisite requirements are re-examined by the installer.

  • Ethernet card disappears after SP3 install (T60 1951-45G)

    Hi!
I updated my Windows XP to Service Pack 3 yesterday and now it seems my ethernet card has disappeared. i.e. it acts at it has been disabled in the BIOS (not showing up in device manager etc.). I've tried entering BIOS, hiding it, booting, restart, enable in BIOS and new boot but no luck. In another thread I saw people complaining about broken MS update and that a clean install might resolve the problem.
My question is if anyone else have had the same experience and if it is solvable without a clean install of a streamlined SP3.
    My machine is a T60 1951-45G.
Everything else seems to run just fine by the way, but I'll post back if I find additional problems.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are reports of SP3 breaking LAN/WAN connectivity on many laptops (TechNet, MSFN, MS forums). Not quite certain what the resolution is at this point, and not quite certain whether a streamlined SP3 fresh install would be a fix for the issue. For some, SP3 disables WAN completely, while for others the issue is with LAN. It seems certain "newer" drivers are the culprit.
Before doing something drastic, try re-installing the LAN drivers from Lenovo to see if that fixes it, otherwise you may just have to revert back to SP2 (nothing wrong with it on an existing machine that otherwise runs without issues). SP3, afterall, is particularly a cumulative update (albeit with some new "features"), so really there's no great reason to update a working and updated XP-SP2 system with this new service pack.
On a side note, be sure to check if KB941644 was inadvertently installed as part of the update - it's a "hotfix" that is known to cause a number of connectivity issues (unresolvable).
You can check here (MS XP issues) to see if there is a solution to your issue.
    Hope this clears things up

    Hi all;
My adobe Acrobat Pro 8 (last updated) no longer works well if I install
Windows XP PRO SP3 . In fact Adobe Acrobat works but is totally unable to recognize any printer and a pop windows invites me to install one . Really I have 5 printers configurerd on my computer.
If I uninstall SP3 and come back to SP2 the problem desappears .

Hi Christian, so after installing SP3 you can go into your printers folder and see all your printers? Are these all "local" printers or "networked" printers?
Also, with SP3 installed, are you able to print from any other application (i.e. Notepad) to your printers?

  • Client 4.83 sp2 problem

Since installing sp2 for client 4.83 none of the applications I have
configured to run as the system user work anymore.
I get the "(id=67) the network name cannot be found" error message. I have
double checked and the applications work fine until sp2 is installed on
    the client.
Has anyone else out there experienced this problem?

I have seen this while doing my testing, too. The switches do not have
trunk ports, my workstations are properly imported, blah, blah, blah.
There appears to be a BIG problem with Client32 4.83 since the beginning
of SP1. I have finally successfully pushed SP3 through ZEN, and will
continue my findings in the Client forum. I will note that after powering
off the PC and waiting almost 5 minutes, then powering the PC back on, I
was able to authenticate and had no other problems since applying SP3 (for
    now).

  • Win XP SP3 inhibits Photoshop CS3

I recently purchased TurboTax for 2011 and found out that I must have SP3 in my Win XP PCs. Since my two PCs perform fantastic, in my video editing, with SP2 I was relactant to upgrade(?) to SP3., but I did.... Now my Photoshop CS3 opens but immediately "...is NOT responding". All my other Adobe: PPro Cs3, etc work fine. My Desktop SEARCH also stopped working. The MS support wanted me to allow them to remotly control my keyboard and mouse.... but I decided not too...
I RESTORED back to SP2 and everything works...of course I cannot install TurboTax...

  • IAS6.0 SP3 and Xalan

I'm using Xalan to transform some XML messages for user usage and since
installing SP3 (worked great on SP2)
I'm getting an exception on the transformer. This is obviously a major
problem as we are faced with either
scrapping a portion of the application or reverting back to SP2.
Any insight or confirmation of similar problems/successes would be much

    FactoryImpl.java:764)

have tried installing some of Xalan's
sample servlets onto my app server resulting in the same exception.

  • App-v 5.0 SP3 questions

    Hi,
We have App-v 5.0 SP2 on terminal servers (with some APp-v 5.0 packages) and are about to do a rollout of App-v. I have my App-v 5.0 SP2 hotfix 3 package ready but there is a SP3 now.
    My questions:
-major one: what's my biggest benefit for upgrading, is there a major bug fix or new feature?
-can we just upgrade the terminal servers without impact (apart from some down time): all previous packages will still work?
-if we update the sequencer first, can I publish SP3 packages to SP2 clients (are they compatible)?
-some Windows 7 clients already have SP2, will they have an impact when upgrade to SP3
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    Hi Jan,
SP3 brought about some significant changes for App-V, in particular increased flexibility of connection groups, runvirtual for the user and improvements to the sequencer. For a full breakdown of what's new read here:
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/everything-you-need-to-know-about-app-v-5-0-sp3/
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn858700.aspx
Its mainly a feature release however there are some bug fixes in there too.
SP3 is fully backwards compatible with non-SP3 packages. This is the order in which you should upgrade:
    App-V Server
    Sequencer
App-V client or App-V Remote Desktop Services (RDS) client
    Connection groups

sounds like compatible or driver issue.
i believe there's an application for 3000 series that helps you to update drivers automatically. run that software or un-install sp3, try with sp2 instead of.
