XP v Win 7 Recommendations Please

I have XP Pro on my T400 and I'm thinking of upgrading to Win 7. Does anyone have any experience of whether I should stay with XP or move to 7. I have 2GB RAM and do not want to upgrade

Hi musicmylife,
Welcome to the Lenovo forum.
I have not yet tried Win 7 myself, hopefully others with direct experience will share. But I recently came across the following comparison of XP, Vista and 7 that you might find useful:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-7-notebook,2485.html
What I take away from that is that XP is still a fine OS despite its age. Of course there may be some new Win 7 features that you want. Everything I've read seems to agree that Win 7 is a fine OS as well.
Best regards,
Frank

  • Need a recommendation for a DJ speaker setup

what loudspeakers, subwoofer, and accessories should I get for small to medium venues.I already have a full stanton setup (mixer/two tables/) and have a laptop I use too. I just have only used stereo equipment and done house partys but want to step it up and I am not sure what to buy and the Best Buy I work at does not have a musical instrument department.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Lot's of different options, and it sounds like you've determined what size of setup you want.  If your going to be doing small party's, I would recommend two powered speakers, since you already have the tables and mixer.  And the powered speakers will help in the ease of setup also.  If you can find them, there still may be some out there in Best Buy, but they are discontinued, I would look into getting two Thump15's by Tapco.  They put out alot of volume and would be great for a DJ setup.  And obviously you could upgrade from that to Mackies, or EV's.  Just depends on the price range.  Please give us a call if you have any more questions.  Thanks!  Randy Smith  M.I. sup Tempe, AZ 480.303.7251

  • T60p - Win 8.1 issues - Please help

I recently upgraded my t60p to 8.1 Pro and cant figure a few things out.
    1. I have no sleep option. I can only Hibernate or  shut down the PC
    2. I have removed Ultra Nav in favor or older synaptics because Ultra Nav did not have the "momentum setting" that I love. How ever when i start the PC back up it seems to remove what I had and re-install Ultra Nav. Id like to be able ot stop that.
    3. i often have WiFi issues when I first boot up the PC and have to restart it the computer in order to try and get wifi working. It sees my network but wont connect to it or any other network.
I came from Win 7 Ultimate and had no issues.
    Thanks

Do you have any better luck with that if you update your iTunes to version 11.1.5.5? (Just released today.)

You need to go to the computer maker and get a copy of the OEM for your system.  YOu cannot download a non OEM and repair "it" with the OEM CD'S.  The cd's are probably for repair not install.  Does your system have a restore partition?

  • Your recommendation for a new HP Photosmart All-in-one.

Could I get your recommendations for a new HP Photosmart All-in-one.  My old Photosmart #C5180 died. I loved that machine - it made excellent copies, was a wonderful printer and scanner and made excellent photographs, and it lived for many years.  What would be your recommendations for a new Photosmart that would be similar to my old one and hopefully use the same cartridges,  HP02, which I have a supply of.  Thanks for your any recommendations that anyone would volunteer.

    Railway,
Unfortunately no current model of printer is going to support those cartridges.
Here is a link to our current photosmart models:
    http://shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Printers/HP%20Photosmart
All of those are great printers. If you are looking to occasionaly send faxes, then the 7510 would be the one you would want to go with. It has eFax on it, which is faxing over a internet connection, without the use of a phone line.

  • Oops spilt wine on keyboard, advice please

Oops what a clutz, spilt some wine on my lovely MBP last night
Now much of the keyboard is sticky, and curiously the 'letter in the alphabet that comes after I' key doesn't work at all, though others do.
Any advice on cleaning / fixes, other than send it back to Apple for (no doubt expensive) repair?
Is it possible, without causing further damage, to lever the keys off the keyboard to clean beneath? Have done this several times on PC keyboard but am reluctant with this to start fiddling with MBP without some knowledge.
    Thanks
    - Matt

    Several pieces of advice.
To get keys off is quite straightforward. Push the keys either side of the one you want off. Then get both your fingernails on either side and pull upwards carefully with even pressure.
I did this on my Powerbook G4 at one point to arrange the keys into a Dvorak arrangement. Identical keyboard there.
You have nothing to lose really it's a non-functioning key and at worst you'll need a replacement keyboard, which you probably do.
Before trying that though, just use a hair dryer to dry any remaining liquid (though the heat from the machine should have dried it already).

  • Recommendations Needed Please

I just purchased a 13 inch MacBook Pro (2011) and I want to get a Case and a carring sleeve for my new laptop. Can someone please direct me to a high quality Case and Sleeve with a link to a official place to buy it. I am thinking about getting the Speck 13" SeeThru Case
and the Incase Neoprene Slim Sleeve but if anyone can show me better products with a reasonable price please let me know.

I recently bought a macbook air sleeve (danish) from Pack & Smooch, which in my opinion is the best sleeve on the market. Take a look at Pack & Smooch, but if you don't like sleeves in wool, then I suggest you go for a incase sleeve (the one that shldr2thewheel isn't unique, but it does what you would expect from a sleeve).

i would head over to the display section of AVSForum to read user reviews of various displays.
With the $1300 range that you have mentioned, you should have plenty of choices for your next television.
If it was me, I would start and end at plasma displays. I have friends and family with LCD's and Plasma's, and to my eye plasmas just look better.

  • ITHMB converter to Win XP? URGENT PLEASE HELP!

I have about 200 pictures on my Windows XP PC that are from my iPhone. I took a bunch of pictures that I need this Friday for a court case. I can't open them! I no longer have the iPhone, only the pics. I looked everywhere I can imagine for a file converter program to no avail. What is needed to open these .ITHMB pictures?!? If I use a MAC will I be able to see them? Can probably rent one at a Kinkos for awhile if that's the case. Please help...

I bet I have to find someone with a MAC, as I doubt that anyone at Kinkos will let me download a program onto their machines...thank you though for your suggestion! It's a good last resort - post to craigslist maybe for a MAC user as I don't know anyone with one

  • Prob: No sound - Laptop: DV1000 - OS: Win XP Pro SP2 - Please help!!!

    Hi,
I have just re-imaged my laptop DV1000 without the driver CD. Everything seems to be fine but the audio. I downloaded two driver files from HP UK support but none of them worked. Could somebody please give me some hints?
    Thanks a lot,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
I'm having the same problem - although I'm on Windows 7 now.
There seems to be a registry fix for XP, check this link out: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1242041832337+28353475&threadId=1274952
I haven't tried it out yet as my registry is named CSD Version (maybe a typo?), and the value is hex = 0...
    Good luck!

  • Recommendations on a new TV...

    Hey Guys,
I've decided to buy a new TV.
Admittedly, I haven't had time to keep up to date on which models and/or screens are the best to buy.  A few of the attributes I'd prefer are as follows:
    1.  55" - 60" - LED - 120hz or 240hz
    2.  At least 2 HDMI slots, but would prefer 3, all things being equal.
This TV will mainly be in my study/game room with (1) Appple TV, and (2) PS4.  If I had a 3rd HDMI slot, I suppose I could hook up another future device, but not really vital.  And, since I've got Apple TV & PS4, I'm assuming the SMART feature would be both unnecessary and redundant?
So, which model and price point would you guys recommend?  Price isn't really an object within reason; but, of course, I'd prefer a model that has an excellent screen and good value.  By the way, Best Buy's free delivery includes unpacking, placing in chosen room, and removing my old TV?
Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

The Vizio M Series. Better picture quality than any other LED in it's price range. The F series is almost as good and a bit cheaper.
Those Samsungs suffer from picture uniformity issues and their horrendous customer service.
The LG I don't know offhand, but if it's the same as the other budget LG TV's my guess would be that it's a pretty mediocre TV.
Personally, I'd buy the 60" Samsung F5300 plasma. It's EASILY the best value that Best Buy has right now. The picture quality will blow away any of the LED's that have been mentioned. The only LED TV's that are going to have a better picture are located in the Magnolia section of the store.

  • Recommend camcorder please

First of all, Tom Wolsky's video from Class on Demand is the best tutorial I've ever owned.
Can anyone recommend a camcorder that will just plug in and play with FCE4?
I would like a hard disk camera or flash camera to avoid disks/tapes, but the ones I've used so far (Canon HG10) take too long to transfer files, or (Sony DCR-SR100) requires a converter.
I don't care about high def, I just want to shoot, plug, and edit without converters or extra wires.
    Thanks for your help.

No standard def hard drive or memory card cameras are plug and play with FCE. The only HD and card cameras that work are AVCHD cameras. So you're kind of forced to use HD, which does take a lot of space and requires a good computer.
Thank you very much for the kind words BTW.

    TechGirl
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey TechGirl,
There are many choices when it comes to camera bags, and deciding on what one meets your needs really depends on a few different things. I first suggest thinking about what type of environment you will be using the camera in. If you are going to be trekking all over the world, and exposing the camera to harsh conditions, I would suggest getting at least a durable water resistant bag. If you're going to use the camera primarily in your home and occasionally take it out of the house you could probably get by with a less durable bag that isn't water resistant. The next thing you should consider is do you anticipate carrying a lot of lenses, and accessories with you, or will it primarily be just the camera with a lens on it.
The four types of camera bags are a hard case, backpack, shoulder bag, and what's called a holster style bag. Hard cases are more for checking the camera when you travel, while a backpack would be used if you would be traveling on foot with a large amount of equipment. The shoulder bag is the most common, because it allows you to carry a good amount of equipment without being cumbersome. The holster style bag holds just the camera body with a lens attached, but they usually are limited to what size lens will fit in it.
There are a few bags I found that I feel would work well for this camera package, but by no means are these your only options. There is a shoulder bag that is made by Canon for their EOS series of cameras, and they also make a good holster style bag. If you are in need of a lot of room, and would like a backpack style bag Lowepro makes a good backpack. I hope this is helpful!
