XP, Vista, where, what, how, how much--your help appreciated......

New Mac Book Pro owner here. I will be starting a course of study in a month that requires Windows, to run its program. I left the Windows platform three years ago and have been very happy without it. However, now that it's a requirement, I have some questions.
1) After reading here on this forum a lot lately, I've decided to go with XP Pro with SP2 or SP3. Is there a difference that would matter between the sp2 and sp3?
2) 32 or 64-bit? I don't know enough to really know what this means, much less make a wise choice. Does it matter? My machine has 4 Gb Ram.
3) After installing Windows using Bootcamp, do I need to install its own browser (Firefox) on that partition? Or will it access the one I have? I know these questions must sound so stupid, but I don't know anything about this.
4) With windows installed using bootcamp, and let's say I'm at that course working online with Windows, will i be able to do anything, just as if it's a PC? Will I be able to work on things, create a document? Will I need additional programs for this?
5) Will I install a virus protection to the Windows part of the disk?

Applications are not "cross platform" meaning you can't run Windows programs outside Windows, and likewise, you can't run OS X programs except inside OS X.
Side by side or inside OS X means you don't need to reboot to work in the other OS. CAD and graphic or cpu intensive programs aren't good candidates for virtual OS.
Personally, I would have bought a PC for Windows. There isn't much OS X and Vista don't both do well today, and a Core i7 based system is a powerful platform (but not in laptop yet).
Mac OS X users find David Pogue's books a great reference manual and helpful. My brother switched over and appreciated it a lot. He also writes books on other topics.

My Firefox screen at the top does not look like what you show at your help site, so I can't customize or learn how to do things

I am running Windows 7 Professional and am not adept at using the Windows platform. Firefox on my computer does not look the way it is shown at specific "Help" topic pages, so I can't get the help needed. Three examples: 1. How to click on a link so it opens in a new tab; 2. How to customize the options; 3. How to get rid of the "Ask" web site window.

On Windows, you can switch between a classic menu bar and a compact menu opened with an orange button with the word Firefox.
You can switch between these using one of these methods:
* right-click a blank area of the tab bar and turn Menu Bar on or off
* View menu > Toolbars > Menu Bar
* orange Firefox button > Options triangle > Menu Bar
Does that help?
To get to the tab preferences, you can do this:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
To remove the Ask toolbar, you can go here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
You might still have to do a little cleanup after removing an extension, if it changed your home page, new tab page, search provider, etc. Please describe any remaining problems in more detail.

I have plenty of mg available on my phone but itunes won't sync saying there is not enough room on my phone. In usage it shows me exactly what how much storage I have used and how much is available and I have plenty available.

iTunes won't sync my music showing a full capacity bar when syncing but I have tonnes of space on my phone

The 64 bit advantage? How Much? Where?

What is going to be the 64 bit advantage of Snow Leapard and LR?
Speed yeah, but mostly where and how much? These 1:1 previews are probably
the biggest bottleneck I have. Better now tho.

Rosetta does not help with bitness. It is meant for very old ppc apps and
some printer drivers (Epson for some demented reason is still using ppc code
in their printer drivers!). Both the 32-bit kernel and the 64-bit kernel can
run both 32-bit and 64-bit intel apps, so from Lightroom's perspective it
doesn't matter which kernel you run. To get most of the advantage of 64 bits
apps, you do not need to run the 64 bit kernel you just need to run the
64-bit binary, which runs just fine on the 32-bit kernel. You need the
64-bit kernel if you have more than 96 GB of RAM. No current Apple machine
supports that much memory. If you're interested in this read the superb
review in ars technica:

about the 64-bit kernel). There are small speed advantages to running the
64-bit kernel, but they are weighed down by some incompatibilities with
certain third-party drivers (think scanners, mouses, cards, full disk

the other hand, as the tests I linked to above show, there are major
advantages to running apps such as Lightroom as 64 bits. They will run just
fine on the 32-bit kernel so you're probably better off just running the
default 32-bit kernel and making sure that Lightroom runs as 64-bit by
unchecking the checkbox in the get info panel.

No, Apple does not take trade ins. Your carrier may have different polices regarding trade ins. Best to contact them about it.
Alternatively you can use Apple's Recycling Program with one of their partners. They will give you an Apple Store Gift card with the value they determine the iPhone has. And you can use the Gift card in the purchase of a new iPhone.

How much can the 16gb ipad3 and the 32gb ipad hold on their storage (apps songs books, etc)

I am just wondering which is better value for money, and how much different stuff each size Memory can actually hold...

a 16 gig iPad usually has 14 and change free after the operating system. the 32 gig has 29 gig and change free.
as to how much it'll hold, it all depends on your file size. Your average movie can be hundreds of megs to 2-4 gig each....and the file size determines how much your device can hold.
I would say, since memory isn't upgradable, buy the biggest you can afford. I have a 16 gig and I get by. I have 2 albums, 4 movies, hundreds of documents and a couple dozen apps and I have 1-2 gig free. On the other hand, i have a 32 gig iPod Touch and it has a lot more music and videos on it and I just recently filled it up to having a couple of gig free.
If you're going to use your device for documents and surfing, go for th 16. But if you plan on movies and music, go for the 32. better to have to work to fill 32 gig than to have to constantly manage content to make the most of your room.
