Xp wired machine with printer - wireless vista machine can't see printer

Installed wrt310n router - install went well - works great.
Machine A = xp machine with printer
Machine B = vista machine
Machine A is hard wired to wrt310n router with usp printer
Machine B cannot see printer.
tried several steps including checking firewall settings and making sure workgroup names the same - doesn't work

This is not a router problem.  It is your computer settings.  Both computers have to be on the same workgroup.  Default in XP is MSHOME while the default in VISTA is WORKGROUP.  Change workgroup to mshome.
In XP, run file & printer sharing wizard.  Go to Printer & faxes and you should see a little hand under your printers.  Note the name of the printer you want to use.
In Vista go to network.  You should see all your computers listed.  If not, click on Network & Sharing Centre and turn on Network discovery and file sharing. Set your network from public to private.  Go back to network and click add a printer. Select network printer.
Your XP has to be online for the vista to connect to your printer.

  • No Problem hooking up Vista laptop with WRT110 Wireless Router but can not get XP laptop to see it

I purchased a WRT110 Linksys wireless router this afternoon and had no problem configuring it for my wired desktp and my wireless Vista laptop, but my Acer XP wireless laptop will not even see the network.  I have tried WEP, WAP, and no security, but I can see the neighbors routers but I can not see mine.  My XP laptop is an Acer 3680-2574 with a  Broadcom 802.11g network adapter.

Is the SSID enabled on the router ?
What is the firmware on the router ?

  • Printing From iBook To Printer on Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printers

Printing From iBook To Printer on Windows Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printer on a Vista machine from a Mac, although Windows notebooks find it immediately.
I have previously always had success sharing printers on Windows XP machines with my iBooks. . However upon installing Vista RC1 on my desktop I find I can no longer find the printer in the Mac's printer setup utility. When I dual boot back to XP everything works fine, but on the same machine when I boot into Vista I am unble to see the printers. The Mac printer setup utility finds the Vista machine on the network, but the printers are never visible. Is their some secret or channge in Vista that prevents Mac's running , in my case,Tiger 10.4.8 from seeing a shared printer on a computer running Vista
On the Vista machine, if I boot into XP The printer is shared and Windows notebooks can print to it, but neither of my iBooks can see the Printers when Vista is running.

That might have been the situation for the beta's and first RC's, but I have a final build. Plus the fact that other Windoze notebooks see the printer on the Vista box just fine leads one to believe it is a mac/Vista specific issue.
If anyone actually has experience with a MAC and Vista , I would appreciate hearing from you.
    thanks,

I think someone bought intunes merchandise with my account. How can I see what they bought to make sure?

There are fellow users here, you aren't talking to Apple on these forums.  You can check the purchase history on your account via the Store > View My Account menu option on your computer's iTunes - not sure whether that shows in-app purchases as I've never made any.  You can also check to see if you have any auto-renewing subscriptions .  If you don't recognise the charge and you haven't added or changed your credit card details (when you do then a temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the details are correct and valid, which should disappear within a few days) then you can contact iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Restore from Time Machine can't see new HD

I am upgrading my 250gb hard drive to a 320gb WD Scorpion (found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280) so I took out the old hard drive, put in the new one, booted from the leopard install disc, and went to Utilities>Disk Utility. I can see the new drive, I partitioned it using Mac OS Extended (journaled), and called it Macintosh HD. Then I went to Utilities> Restore System from Backup... I selected my external drive with my time machine back ups, and picked the latest one. On the Select a Destination screen, it says "Searching for disks" but never finds my new drive that disc utility can clearly see, so I can not restore my system.
PLEASE HELP! Why is it not recognizing the drive?

    Hi jonmerlin
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sounds like you have formatted it correctly, but have not set it to the correct Partition Map Scheme.
While booted from your Install disc, open Disk Utility and select the drive in the left hand column. Then click on the Partition tab and then the Options button, there you'll see several choices. The first "GUID Partition Table" is for Intel-based iMac's or "Apple Partition Map" for PowerPC-based Mac's. Select the choice that is appropriate for the Mac you have, then click OK. You should now be able to format the drive as Mac Os Extended.
Then follow the instruction in the Restore from your Time Machine backups article:

  • Time Machine can't see my external hard drive

Time Machine won't show me any backup disk options other than  "Set up Time Capsule".  When I click on that, it searches for AirPort wireless which I do not have installed.  How do I get Time Machine to see my external hard drive connected via Fire Wire?  I went into Disk Utility and it showed the external drive was there.  Backups had been working previously.

I don't know the answer but I have the same thing happen. I have two external drives I use for backup. Sometimes it can see one and sometimes another. Then sometimes it can't see either one.  I will take one out for a while then plug it back in and then it may see it.  Maybe it's a cable issue or something but I will be curious to hear what someone more knowledgeable says.

  • Time Machine - can't see backups

I have a 1T LaCie attched via USB and have been using since Sept 2008 - when i enter TM all I can see is back ups for Sept & Oct 2008, but nothing since. It seems to be backing up on a regular basis, and I get no warning messages. Can I just delete the backup file on the LaCie and start over if I don't care about files prior to what is on my HD now?

So, thanks to a rotten power supply I have a freshly dead 17.5 month old 1 TB Time Capsule which is out of warranty. To try and preserve the utility of my prior Time Machine backups and what seems to be a perfectly good 1 TB HD, I bought a 3.5" SATA enclosure with USB 2.0 and pulled the drive out of the TC and put it in the HDD enclosure. Now following Pondini's Tip #17 in the FAQ I can browse to my prior backups.
The big question is: How can I get Time Machine use the same HD from the Time Capsule (now attached by USB instead of Ethernet) to pick up where it left off making further incremental backups as it had been making for 1.5 years up until the TC's power supply died? I'd like to not have to back the whole thing up separately again and bifurcate the backups.
In Finder I can see a 104.93 GB file titled:
Mjmckay's Mac Mini_0016cba344dd.sparsebundle and dated the date I started using the TC.
Using the Disk Utility I can also see the name and info of the HD as follows:

I'm sure there's information here which no one needs to answer my question, and other info I haven't provided.
Right now, TM doesn't see any oldest or latest backups
Are there settings I can change to get it to seamlessly pick up? I think I have seen some references in the user forums to a distinction made by Time Machine between backing up to a Time Capsule (wherein maybe TC is the only "easy" Network Attached Storage destination) with "sparsebundle" files and the way Time Machine backs up to direct, USB 2.0, direct-attached external hard drives (which is what my Time Capsule HD has now become). Or is that the problem at all?
    Any one have suggestions?

  • Time machine-- can't see more than 2 weeks back.

I recently discovered that I can't see back more than 2 weeks on my Time Machine.  Last month I could see back forever, relatively speaking.  My WD 320 has roughly 32GB free space left, so all the data must be there, but I can't access it.  Any ideas?

Did anything unusual happen lately, such as hardware repairs, a full restore, etc.?   If so, Time Machine may have had to do a very large or even full backup, requiring lots of space, so it had to delete a bunch of old backups.
Although I haven't actually verified that you and Camelot have the right answer, i'm satisfied that you both have the correct answer.  Unfortunately, i'm not familiar enough with using this user-discussion group to respond correctly (i credited Camelot with a 'helpful answer' instead of 'correct answer', and i can't find my response to him).
    Time Machine - Troubleshooting
for a handy widget that will display the backup messages from your logs.   Use it to navigate back through recent backups, and see if there's a very large backup listing a lot of deletions.  If so, copy and post the messages here.
I haven't yet been able to download this widget-- server must be super busy.  I'll keep trying, later.

  • My Time Machine can't see/connect to my NAS Thecus

    Hello,
    I have NAS Thecus  N7700Pro V2.
I got it to be my network storage and I enabled teh AFP in my NAS to be able to use my Time Machine backup.
My current OS is Lion 10.7.5.
When I open teh Time Machine and try to connect it to my NAS it can't see it.
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

Thanks - that worked - although the solution requires a little updating which was mentioned further down that post. In summary it is now this:
    1. Create a sparsebundle image manually on your local system. Open a terminal window and enter:
hdiutil create -size $SIZESPEC -fs HFS+J -type SPARSEBUNDLE -volname "Backup of $MACHINENAME" $MACHINENAME_$MACADDRESS.sparsebundle
Where $SIZESPEC is the size of the backup volume (followed by the lowercase letter g if Gigabytes, e.g. 100g), and $MACHINENAME_$MAC_ADRESS is your Mac's name followed by an underscore and then your Mac's MAC Address (otherwise known as its Ethernet ID; visible in the Network System Preferences panel), but without the colons. So if your Mac is named MyMac, and the Network System Preferences panel lists your Ethernet ID as 00:18:b3:11:84:dd, then you would use MyMac_0018b31184dd for the name of the sparsebundle.
The -size parameter can probably be as large as you want, now that Apple has evidently fixed the sparsebundle issues that were causing all but the most recent backup to be dumped. However, you can also specify a smaller size if you (like me) want to create a hard limit for the amount of space your Time Machine backups will take on your network drive. hdiutil does have a -resize option if you need to utilize that later.
    2. Create and set permissions on your network share. Just make sure you have read/write permissions set on whichever SMB/AFP share you're going to dump this to.
    3. Copy the sparsebundle to the network share root. Easy enough. Mount your network share and copy it over. I used this Terminal command after the MyBackup share was mounted: cp -r mymachine_0017f2c8426b.sparsebundle /Volumes/MyBackup/. Or just use the regular UI to copy and paste (it worked for me).

  • Replace old router with WRT110 and now I can not see shared printer on network

Replaced a BEFW11S4 with a WRT110. Now I can not see a shared printer on the network any more. I have not changed anything on the computer that has the printer shared. I can see the internet on all the computers, but not the shared printer. can you help?

First which you need to check, is your printer is working Offline on your computer. In this case you need to Re-map your Printer on your Computers back again. First check if you have any Firewall or Antivurs Installed on your computer try to disable it and check if you are able to print from your computer. If not then try to Remap the printer on your computer.
Go to Network connections window and if you are able to see your computer name on which the printer is installed, then right click on the Printer and click on "Connect" or "MAP" once done you will be able to print from your computer.
Note down the IP address of the Computer on which you have Installed the Printer. (Click on Start - Run - CMD and click Ok, now in the command prompt type "ipconfig" and note down the Ip address, Then go to your other computer and Click on Start - Run - CMD and click Ok and now in the Command prompt type "ping (IP address of your main computer) and hit enter and check if you are getting any replies. If yes, then again click on "Start - Run - type ( \\ip address of your main computer) and click Ok, and now you will be able to see your printer name then right click on it and click on "Connect" or Map, once done, now check if you are able to print from your computer.

  • IMac woke up by itself with clicking pattern. Folder with ? mark now. Can't see HD in Diagnostics. Dead HD?

    Hi,
My iMac was asleep all night, but it woke up suddenly by doing a 6-click pattern. 6 clicks, then the sound of something whirling/winding down, silence, then 6 clicks again, sound of something whirling down, repeat.
Last month I suddenly heard my iMac making weird clicks whenever it woke up from sleep. I posted about the problem here. It would take longer than usual to fully wake up, and as it was doing so it'd make lots of clicking sounds before I could use it. Did Diagnostics; Repair Disk said my HD was fine.
I think the problem stems from someone borrowing my computer and using up lots of RAM (tons of programs open), which of course slowed down the computer, so his solution was to just hold down the power button to restart (found out he was too impatient to restart the computer the right way ). I don't know how many times he did it, but I guess 10 times total? Is this enough to mess up the HD?
One day the iMac showed the folder with a question mark on it. I put in my Snow Leopard install disc and ran the OS from it. I went into System Preferences and redirected the computer to start up from the HD (it had been blank, for some reason). Then it rebooted from the HD like normal. I started using the iMac again, and the clicking problem became only intermittent. Eventually the clicking went away altogether, so I continued using the computer, hoping the HD was still all right (wishful thinking). I did make disk copies using Carbon Copy in case I was wrong (I also let Time Machine do its thing every single day).
Today I woke up to the sound of my iMac clicking because it woke up on its own. Again, it was having the old trouble of waking like it did last month. 6 clicks. Wind down. Silence. Repeat. It gave me the grey screen for a few long minutes, then it gave me the folder with the question mark on it. I tried to boot from my Snow Leopard disk, but when I tried to re-direct the boot drive, there was no option for my hard drive at all like last time (just the CD and the network server). I tried entering Diagnostics, but again in the left pane there was NO option for my hard drive like last time, only the CD-ROM with the Snow Leopard CD in it.
Does that basically mean my HD is dead since I can't "see" it? Should I even bother taking it in to Genius? I'm probably going to be buying a new iMac tomorrow. I just hope my Time Machine and Carbon Copy backups will transfer all my files correctly. I've never had to do this before, so I'm pretty nervous about it.
    Thanks!
P.S. My iMac is probably 4-5 years old. Purchased refurbished from a non-Apple store. I guess it's just time?

I put the HD back into my iMac's SATA sled and can view the contents of the drive without a problem, once again. The Disk Utility on the iMac indicates that the S.M.A.R.T. Status for the drive is "Not Supported," but that is probably because it is viewing the drive via USB from the sled.
If the drive was failing would I really be able to access it from my iMac via the SATA sled so easily?
At this point I am leaning on taking the whole MBPro, drive and all, into the Genius Bar tomorrow and hopefully getting back a working computer within a week.

  • ITunes 9.2 on Vista 64 can't see my other libraries

I have a desktop PC running Vista 64, as well as a laptop running Vista 32 bit.
Everything is connected on my home network; some through ethernet, some wirelessly.
The laptop has no issues connecting to my AppleTV as well as my iPhone for the remote app.
The desktop PC can't see the appleTV, iPhone remote app, or my laptop's library (for Home sharing).
The Desktop is recognized on the network, and my laptop can "see" the desktop PC, and the desktop can "see" the laptop. In fact, I can chase music using the windows media sharing option. Both laptop and desktop are even visible on my PS3.
How can I get iTunes on my Vista 64 desktop to see my appleTV and iPhone remote app?
    Any ideas?
I've gone through the forums a number of times and tried all kinds of things like opening ports and so on. Nothing has worked.

    any fixes ? ):

  • Vista users can't see my flash

I've got quite a number of clent websites out there with
flash headers. Some clients are now telling me that they can't see
the flash headers at the top of their websites. If the flash if
farther down on the page they can see it. We're using exactly the
same code whether the flash is at the top or in the middle of the
    page.
This is driving me nuts. I've attached the code we're using

    code you'll see the following:

That file name is an .SWF file that has been uploaded to a
separate page on the site. That is the same whether the flash is at
the top or in the middle of a page.
These users with the problem are using Vista. Can we do
something different in the code to make sure it plays on Vista? Is
there something the users with Vista must do to see the flash?
Any help would be most appreciated.
