Xp wont read ipod at all

so somebody sold me this little nano 2 gb said it work i was like cheap had to go get a charger for it charged fine works great but my computer when i plug it in nothing pops up i have the latest itunes i was even going to like reset it but says need to use itunes to do that lol it is formated for windows checked that i have no idea now is there any one that can help

I have simular problems
After updating itunes a few days ago my ipod touch 2.gen won't sync at all. It started with it not wanting to add music to the ipod. I got the message "file can't be found" even though I could play the song in itunes.
I started trying a "hard restart" of the ipod, with no result.
I then tried to re-install itunes, with no result.
I then tried to restore the ipod to factory preset, with the result that the ipod won't read at all in itunes.
I've had a long history with sync-problems. And it always shows up after an itunes update. I tried sending the ipod to Apple service last summer but they found "nothing wrong" with the ipod. Apple won't take responsibility under warranty anymore and i'm left with a glorified, overpriced product that doesn't work because of firmware updates from Apple that I can't refuse.
Apple makes products that looks nice and are easy to use, but their customer service is non-existing when their products break down.
Last Apple product I'll ever buy!

  • Computer wont read iPod at all

I have a 1st generation 20gb iPod and I can't get any type of feedback. When I plug it in to my computer I get a battery with a yield sign. If i try to reset it by holding the menu and select button, the screen flickers for a second and goes back to the battery sign. I can't charge it either. I have tried my outlet charger, an iHome and my computer, the same battery sign shows up. I can't think of anything else to try and fix it. Is it completely worthless?

I had the same problem when I bought my Touch 2 months ago. Here is fix I used:

First (MAKE SURE YOUR IPOD ISNT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER, AND ITUNES IS RUNNING!!) you have to reset it by holding your home and power button. Make sure you slide it to power off. Then as it powers on, hold the home button and connect your ipod to the computer at the same time. (DO NOT LET IT GO FOR ANY REASON) as iTunes loads it, it'll say that your iPod is going into recovery mode. Click ok, and restore it.
It worked for me. Hope it helps...

  • Computer not reading ipod at all

i bought my nano like a month ago... i connected my nano to the computer and all the songs went on it... a week later though i got a message saying i needed to upgrade so i did and in the middle of the upgrading process it froze and all my songs were deleted from the ipod now when i try to connect it itunes doesn't read it and when i try to open 'my computer' it freezes. i've tried resetting the nano and i even tried using another computer but the same thing happens can anybody help?

Disconnect the iPod and close the iPod updater and iTunes. then try again. If it doesn't work, then close both again, and push CtrlAltDel and end the iTunesHelper.exe and iPodservice.exe processes. I'm sure you did this first, but just doublecheck no file are running off the iPod.

  • Wont read ipod

When i got to update my ipod, it comes up with 'The ipod(my ipods name here) cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.' Can anyone help?

You have to restore it with the latest iPOd updater. A restore will wipe the iPod clean and delete everything on it. you can get the latest updater here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Home Theatre Wont read IPOD tracks

When I connect my ipod via usb to my home theatre it recognizes the ipod but says I don't have any tracks.  I upgraded the software on both itunes and ipod but it still doesn't work.

I am trying to connect through the USB port on my Phillips digital tv (about a year old) which is connected to my surround sound/home theatre.  i just got off the phone with phillips and they said the apple software doesn't play well with the phillips software.

  • No music in iTunes library and it wont read the content of my iPod? Help please!

So I recently updated to iTunes 10.7 and when I did, all of the content in the iTunes library was gone! i have tried many different things to get it to work, like restoring to a previous iTunes library, but it appears that all the previous iTunes libraries were also deleted when I updated! If there is no other way to get the music back than finding the original files and putting them into iTunes, I guess that will be ok.
The second problem I am having is that when ever I try to sync my iPod it takes a very long time to load, and then it says that iTunes can't read the content of my iPod and that I should restore to the factory settings, but because there is no music or apps in my iTunes library I dont want to do that, because then I will have no way of getting all of my content back on. And I can't restore to a previous backup because it wont read it as my iPod, it just comes up as an unkown iPod. This is very frustrating and I have tried everything I can think of. Please help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable and another USB port
    - Reboot the computer.
    - See if you can find the media by:
    - See if a third-party progtam like one of those discussed here will allow you to get the music off the iPod
    newer copy
    - I think you may end up restoring the iPod.

PowerBook G4 wont read external HD, Ipod, Printer, Shufflel - ahhhh, help?
Im not the whizziest on computers, other than lve tried a few things and nothing seems to work - lm open to any suggestions. Each external device makes sounds, which sounds like they are working fine, its just that all of a sudden, my mac wont read them?

Well, Bluetooth has nothing to do with USB. (Unless you confused a wireless USB mouse with a Bluetooth mouse. Bluetooth mice require no adapters with Bluetooth built-in to our PowerBook model. If you were using a special adapter that plugs into your USB port in order to make your mouse wireless, then that is a Wireless USB mouse... which means that your USB ports are functioning in a way, but more malfunctioning than operating correctly).
Here are two places that repair logic boards that I know of:
    1) http://macservice.com/powerbookg412.html
    ($495)
    2) http://www.techrestore.com/xcart/home.php?cat=252
(choose your speed service, then indicate what needs to be replaced,
and it will tell you what the costs will be)
    3) Apple Store Genius Bar
(make an appointment and have them diagnose it for "free" and let
them tell you what they think is wrong... BEFORE they take it in and
in turn, charge you for repairs. Usually a diagnosis at the Genius
Bar won't cost anything. If they take it in and pop it open to make
a full diagnosis, that's when the charge for labor comes in. The look-
over and pre-diagnosis is usually free... that way you can decide if
you want to repair, do something else like buy a new computer, etc.)
    Are you still in warranty?
I wish I could've helped you more. We've gone this far. Last thing. Does your FireWire port work? And what about the other ports, like mini DVI, sound out, etc.? Ethernet?
    (I'll be back later tonight).

Sorry. That's what the "D" option was according to the other manual I read on the internet. (I can't say it's name). If all else fails, that is the final step. A necessary repair of the logic board. (Odd that the Apple Hardware Test does not report any errors! It may not be necessarily logic board failure. That's why I recommend going to Apple... that is, if you have one near you. I have four close to me so I'm lucky. If you have the same luxury, get different opinions from each Apple Genius... trust me on that one).

  • IOs 4.2.1 from 4.2 on Ipod Touch 2nd Gen my car wont read my ipod

I just updated the 4.2.1 update on my ipod touch 2nd gen. I recently had the 4.2 update and it worked perfectly with my car. Now my car wont read it. I am trying to downgrade to any other ios in order to listen to my podcast. All the options online are for previously jailbroken ipods and i had never jailbroken mine. can anyone help me.

Thank you for your constructive response. I also have lost all my music after upgrading to 4.2. The official Apple solution is to sync again with the "computer you usually use to synch". That is quite impossible, since I am traveling away from home where the desktop is that is the usual sync connection. All I have with me is my MacBook Pro, which is also authorized for iTunes, but contains different music. The iPod Touch (2nd generation) shows about 4 gb of audio content, but starting the "Music" application gets a "no content" message.
Let's cut the unhelpful posts about forum rules and user agreements and focus on help for what is clearly a common problem for those who have upgraded. Thank you.

my ipod was fine and then when i turned it on it had an ipod with a sad face with an exclamation point but now it wont turn on at all! please give me any suggestiions . thanks so much!

    See these troubleshooting articles.
    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
When restoring the iPod, it's useful to put into disk mode first.

The sad iPod icon is usually indicative of a hard drive problem, and if none of the above help, it may need service.

  • My ipod touch wont turn on at all even when i connect it to my computer

So my ipod touch wont turn on at all even when i connect it to my computer! it was working fine then outta no where it wouldnt wanna turn back on. i tryed resetting but it doesn't do anything. Also when i put it on the charger it seems to get pretty hot...is the normal? help please...

There are two different causes of this, either it has been overheated, or the iPod just crashed.  If it crashed, there is one simple step to fixing it.  Letting the battery die.  Do not connect to a charger port, or the device may get overheated, and need to be replaced.  Once it dies, it normally will show the icon, that is needs to be charged. Once you charge it back up, it should go back to normal.  If this doesn't help, then contact apple to the nearest store about getting a replacement.

  • TS3195 My Ipod is reading "Ipod is Disabled. Connect to Itunes.." So i have to restore my Ipod in order for it to work. My question is how can i retrieve all my photo's taken on my Ipod before restoring it to its manufacture state?

My son decided to play with my ipod for his amusement and starting entering multiple codes as a password. Even though i had already set the option not to lock after multiple attempts, it ended up disabling anyway. So now my Ipod reads "Ipod is Disabled, Connect to Itunes." I connected it to Itunes and all i get is another error message saying:"The Ipod is locked and can not connect to Ipod." After reading multiple articles turns up i have to restore my ipod to its manufactured state. Before i do that i want to see if anyone can help me in retrieving or transferring over all my photos that were taken on that Ipod before i can even start the Recovery/Restore process. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks in advance to all who reply :-)

There is no way to get them from a disable iPod. That is pat of the security offered by the screen-lock passcode.
    - If the photos were on the iPod when y last backed up you can resore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - If you use PhotoStream yo may be able to get them from your stream. For how see:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
