XP64 and AGP acceleration

I have posted this question on many forums, as I am not the only one experiencing this problem. The scenario is as follows. I have a Master2-FAR with 2 Opteron 246 CPUs, and a new GeForce 6800 Ultra card (though this is not limited to the 6800 series). Latest nVidia Forceware drivers at the time, 61.76, and Windows XP x64 Edition build 1218 (this problem also exists in 1184 and the modified version of 1069.) The BIOS is updated to the latest beta BIOS version provided by MSI, and well, as for VIA chipset drivers, there are none to install in XP64 - "AGP" drivers are provided by M$. If I goto DxDiag, AGP texture acceleration is enabled. However, if you run CPU-Z, or any software diagnostics that can tell you about AGP support, there is no AGP transfer rate/displayed as 0x, no sideband addressing, no faswrite support. All BIOS settings are optimally configured. The nVidia driver displays the card as running in PCI mode, there is no AGP setup tab, whether the driver is modified with Coolbits 2 or not. A 6800 Ultra running in PCI mode is NOT a happy situation. Anyone with any information on it, please, please, please help. This is a very frustrating situation.

So I broke down and installed XP32, just to see how fast it would run in comparison - the difference is night and day. First off, the nVidia driver says that my card is running on the AGP bus at an 8x transfer rate. Secondly, the nVidia 6800 Nalu demo runs with no choppiness, it's rather beautiful actually. 3DMark03 scores went up from 6000 3DMarks to 11914 3DMarks. Almost double the score!!! 3DMark 2001 went from 14800 3DMarks to over 20364 3DMarks... the "Wings of Fury" benchmark was hitting over 1500 FPS at some points in 3DMark03. So the problem is most definitely not hardware. The only thing I think that probably is the culprit has to do with the stupid Microsoft CPU to AGP controller. It may not be picking up on the motherboard ID that corresponds to the AGP controller. Since the next release of XP64 is scheduled to be within a few days (fingers crossed, M$ always messes around with release dates), I'm hoping they've solved that problem. However, if anyone wants to give this a try, I'd be happy if you  have any other suggestions.

  • How do I enable AGP acceleration?

Am currently using my housemate's system, as mine was fried over xmas :(
Generally, his isn't a bad gamaing rig, although it leaves soemthing to be desired when it comes to RAM and the graphics card - so I've stuck some more RAM and my 9800 (standard) in it.
Problem is that the AGP acceleration doesn't seem to be enabled, and every time I try to enable it in the ATI control panel it tells me it needs to reboot to complete the process - when it reboots, it's still off.
I can't find a setting in the bios to turn it on either :(
    Here's the board I'm using, and the specs say it's a x 4 slot:

    Ideas? :(
Oh, and the manual seems silent on this point :(

  • MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C and AGP compatibility

Hi, I'm just about to buy a new motherboard these days, MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C, with an XP 2000/2000+ and memory, but not a new video card, since i can't afford it right now. I only have an AGP Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16 MB, but it is a 3.3v agp card (AGP 1.0). I was wondering if this motherboard can support it, i checked in a lot of places, including the manual and it doesn't say anything about the voltage it can take, neither if the AGP slot is universal or not (i.e. if it can support both 1.5/3.3v or only 1.5v). The manual for the KT3V specifically says '4x 1.5v only', but this one just says 'AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x'. I really need to know this since otherwise i'd have to wait two months to afford another video card. I also checked another post here with an answer to a page with AGP explanation, but it didn't help. Thanks you very much, really

     One AGP slot
     - AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) specification compliant
     - Supports AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x
so whats the problem, your fine there

  • AGP Acceleration not working!

Ok, I've searched around for a while and I coudn't find a solution to my particular problem, so here I am, at the source!
I'm not sure when I lost my AGP support, and don't ask me how. So I'm just going to give away some of my specs to paint you guys a picture of my rig's history.
    Mombo: MSI 845GE Max
    Gfx: Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb from Power-Color
This computer might be old, but I sure as hell know it has AGP support, being newer then a 386 and all
Note: I did have a GF2 440 MX 32mb, GF4 600 MX 128mb, GF4 TI 4200 128mb and now a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb all on this mombo in the past, and if I remember correctly, I had AGP support somewhere along the lines!
Having installed the newest version of intel inf update, DirectX 9.0b and tried the MSI AGP drivers (which my computer didn't take kindly to!).
Anyone have any fresh ideas on how to solve my problem, do tell, I'm fisically going out of my mind!
[EDIT]Another thing, I'm running WinXP for anyone who was wondering that, because I've read that AGP Acceleration can be a payne on other operative systems.[/EDIT]

I think that your problem might be due to the high resolution that you are running, I would try 1,024X768 to see if that is the cause...By the way, Don't you experience a lot of monitor "Flicker" at 60 HZ? ..I would try the 1024X768, at at least 75 HZ...You might even be able to go as high as 100 HZ if your monitor is faily new...Your eyes will thank you, and you can always increase the resolution to 1280X1024 in the game options menu ,as that is what I do.....Sean REILLY875

  • Multiple crashes fixed by turning off hardware and Flash acceleration; very slow now. Takes five seconds to exit and still listed as a running process

A workaround was suggested by a member of the community to turn off both hardware and Flash acceleration. It worked fine (no crashes since), but runs very slowly. In particular, takes five seconds to exit and is often still listed as a running process. Very slow in connecting to Web pages, and very slow loading them because of the graphics. Very slow in loading video. I expected slower responses, but this is REALLY slow. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and an Nvidia GE Force 7800 graphics card with all the drivers updated and the plugins for Firefox mostly set on "ask to activate". Should I expect this much reduction in performance when the workaround I mentioned was put into place? If so, it's half a loaf at best. The only thing questionable is that I have two Youtube downloaders that I am trying, but I made the assumption that these were only applied when you downloaded something from Youtube.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes": do not clear the Cookies
If you clear cookies then Firefox will also try to remove cookies created by plugins and that requires to start plugin-container processes that can slow down closing Firefox.
Instead let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"

  • Who knows how to divide PCI and AGP BUS frequency with MSI KT6V mainboard

I use 2500+ and can overload to 3200+,but my mainboard of KT6V can not
divide PCI BUS frequency to 33Hz and AGP to 66Hz.
who can tell me how to do ?
    Thx!

I think what Wonkanoby is trying to say the reading you are seeing is mis read
It is auto set to change due to being hardwired into the chip, you just can't see it due to not the correct reading device.

  • USB Ports and AGP Video Card on same IRQ

I've got a tough one.  I have 6 USB ports.  Call them 1,2,3,4,5,6. Ports 1 and 2 work fine with my new USB 2.0 80GB External Harddrive.  This pair of ports 1 and 2 are direct into motherboard.
However system crashes when I plug USB 2.0 External Drive into ports 3,4,5,6. These are Dports with cables that plug into the MB.  One of these Dports has the four error lights which are all green.  Western Digital has cautioned against sharing this drive with other IRQs.  Says that the video card and the WD harddrive require dedicated IRQs...but I have no control of how W XP assigns them.
Ports #3-6 work fine with mouse,  scanner, and printer etc. However they fail when trying to use WD External Hardrive.
I also checked IRQ settings and IRQ 16 is used for a USB Port and for my MSI AGP video card.  I believe this conflict is the cause of the problem.
So help..how do I fix this dilemma?
I have Windows XP and see no way to change IRQs.
BIOS does not even show IRQ as a choice..only 1-15.  Also BIOS is latests version for my MSI 845G Max L MS-6580 mother Board.  USB drivers are all Intel.  Video Card Is MSI AGP MS-8878 G4Ti/MX 420 w TV out.  Bios and Drivers are current.
How can I run the USB 2.0 External Harddrive in Ports 3-6?

I did load new Intel INF Drivers and AGP drivers yesterday.
No luck USB Ports 3-6 still fail with External Hard Drive.
I'm not clear on how to turn back on AICP or ACIP.  BIOS?
Also not IRQs 16-23 are listed with active devices on the Device Manager
    16 has a USB Controller at 24c2
16 also has AGP video card
    17 has Audio '97
    17 also has Fast Eternet.
18 has USB Controller at 24c7
19 has USB Controller at 24c4
23 has PCI to USB Interface.
Port 3-6 do work fine with mouse, dig cam, Scanner, printer.  These ports only fail with External Harddrive plugged in.  Ports 1and2 work fine with external HD??
So question is how do I check on the IRQ ports using AIPC or APIC...or whatever the name is...thanks folks.

  • T61 - directdraw and agp texture acceleration not available

hi i have a problem with directx i think
    os: winxp sp3
    on dxdiag:
in the display tab  - i get on directdraw and on the agp accelaration not available, and i cant enable them
    the direct3d is enabled.
next to the direct draw and the directt3d  there is the test button, when i press it -
    the direct draw test pass
    direct3d fail on 1st test
    i tried to:
    reinstalled directx 9c
install the lastest display driver from lenovo (vga card- intel 965 gm)
remove all codecs (xvid, divx, etc..) and install them back.
but i dont really get a clue how to solve this.
this is a problem for me as i can't watch movies correctly on my media player (and any other player, like vlc)
    - i c squares in xvid/ divx files (which i compiled on other computer)
    - on av-dvi files i c lines (got the movie out of a dvi camera using windoes movie maker and a firewire cable)
note: both of the files runs smoothly on my other computer, and the same codecs are installed on both oof them
pls advise on how to solve this problem.
    thank you.
here is the log file which i get from the dxdiag tool:

Please give us some more information...
Why do you think the stated forms of Acceleration are not available? Where are you getting this information from?
Please take a look at the Windows Device Manager. What Display Adapter do you have, and at what level is its driver?

  • Illustrator CS3/Photoshop CS3 - how do they work with MS XP64 and MS Vista64?

I am building a new computer and am trying to decide whether to use XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit.
I currently have Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop CS3....but will surely upgrade to CS4 at some point.
What is your recommendation for OS choices I've noted? Any horrible experiences with either?
    Thanks.

CS3 and CS4 run without problems on my 2 year old XP64 machine at work (Dual Xeon, 8GB RAM) and should work even better on Vista 64. Apparently, if you want to use the 64bit version of Photoshop CS4 with working OpenGL, you have no choice in the matter and must use Vista64bit. For the "normal" 32bit version this limitation does not apply and it runs nicely with hardware acceleration on my end (Quadro 5500, needs the "Allow old GPUs" registry hack). Illustrator in that regard should be even less critical, as it does not use any hardware acceleration at this point except for drawing the interface....

  • Final Cut Studio 2(Color) and AGP graphics cards

So I have ordered FCS 2 for my business(Videography with HDV cameras).
I am on the 2.0 Ghz G5 with dual processors and a 23' Apple Cinema Display.
The computer came with the ATI 9600 Pro Radeon card.
All the technical requirements for Color are PCI slotted busses. So it looks like I am at a dead end if I wish to use Color??? (Some people said that the AGP x800XT might work ok, but this is not verified, and who knows what the performance would be anyway).
A new computer is the only practical solution?

  • WAAS 4.1.1c and MAPI acceleration

    Hi,
Have turned on everything which is possible, but MAPI acceleration monitor graphs are still empty. Does this mean that MAPI is not accelerated ?
What are the prerequesites for MAPI to work correctly ?

You should see the connections from the client to the server with the MAPI adapter applied. If it's already using MAPI AO, then you do not have encryption enabled. If they are all using generic or basic optimization, you can try the following on the clients.
Outlook 2000: Control Panel → Mail → Services tab → Microsoft Exchange Server → Properties
    Outlook 2003: Outlook / Tools / E-mail Accounts.../Change → More Settings → Security
    Outlook 2007: Outlook / Tools / Account Settings... / E-Mail tab / Change....
There are also ways to disable via global policy. I would try a few clients and see how they are set.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • WAAS 4.1.1c and HTTP acceleration

HTTP acceleration graphs remain empty. What is the cause of this ? Is HTTP not accelerated now?

Just an FYI but there is a bug associated with 4.1.1c and the HTTP accelerator.
CSCsv69306-Under certain conditions, HTTP clients whose connections are being optimized by HTTP accelerator can experience slow response.
I had to disable the HTTP accelerator for all my devices but I am now running 4.1.1d and it is enabled.

  • New Flash Player and GPU acceleration...

    Hy.
I played this "example video" at 1080p (FF 3.6 and IE8):
    http://youtu.be/Ou6_MkIvKOo
    with flash build 10.2
I got => CPU load: 3%-11% for the whole video.
ok. I was happy, because I have seen that GPU acceleration worked fine!
now...with flash 10.3 (and later, i.e. latest build) I get for this video --on the same machine with the same software/update--
    => CPU 17%-33%  !!! (the video's playback is good and smoothly, ok)..but...
but...why there are big differencies in GPU rendering between 10.2 and 10.3??
I think, the latest build the less CPU load, but it seems that I get the opposite...=> the newer build the bigger CPU load !!!  *confused*
    thanks.

    Hy Maestro!
    your video in FF:
    1) small window: sw video rendering + accel video decoding.
    2) full screen : accel + sw
    3) moving the pointer (it is NOT necessary moving it to the beginning! a bit forwards or a bit afterwards is ok)=> accel +accel for the whole video's lenght. ok.
    4) small: sw + accel
    5) full: accel + sw
    6) moving a bit the pointer (scrollbar) => accel + accel
I dont know what I should to say.
now I get 12-20% CPU (and NOT 4% as before ) because the windows defender programm is running now, this will take 2 hours...
now I writing another post, please stay tuned ;-)

Everytime I try to access the store I'm asked if I want to download iTunes 10 which I don't because it wont run on my OS and I can't decline the offer so I can't get into the store

iTunes has never supported XP64 bit.
However iTunes itself is a 32 bit program that will run on XP64 if you can get it installed. however this requires some hacking. Here are some links, you may be able to find others.
