Xperia Z1 coming to Canada

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Sony Mobile Communications ("Sony Mobile") today introduced that the Xperia Z1, a premium waterproof1 smartphone that combines the very best of Sony's technology with a unique and groundbreaking camera experience, will launch in Canada with multiple carriers including Bell, Rogers and TELUS in mid-October 2013.
"Xperia Z1 delivers Canadians a powerful and sophisticated waterproof masterpiece crafted from premium metal and glass as we bring unforgettable experiences to life for our customers," said Tim Hernquist, Vice President of Marketing for North America, Sony Mobile Communications. "By bringing the power of Sony to the smartphone we are setting a new standard for premium smartphones."
Capture compact digital camera quality pictures and video
The elegant, 5" Xperia Z1 is the latest addition to Sony's premium Z series of products and brings Sony's proven world-class technologies to the smartphone like never before - including the very best of Sony's camera expertise. Xperia Z1 takes the conventional camera experience to a whole new level by including an innovative set of Xperia Camera Applications that deliver new experiences. Applications at launch include:
Social live: Broadcast precious moments live from Xperia Z1 to Facebook and get your friends' comments right on your screen.
Info-eye™: Innovative visual search function that provides related information on items such as books or wine simply by capturing them with the camera.
Timeshift burst: Capture the perfect shot every time - Xperia Z1 takes 61 images in 2 seconds - a second before and after pressing the shutter - so you can scroll back and forth to find the perfect image.
AR effect: Overlay a selection of fun, customizable animations to create pictures using Sony's SmartARTM augmented reality technology.
Imagery on a smartphone screen has never looked so real
Thanks to the inclusion of Sony's BRAVIA TV technology, Xperia Z1 features Sony's unique TRILUMINOS Display for mobile, creating a wider palette of rich natural colours for an outstanding, immersive viewing experience. It also includes X-Reality for mobile - Sony's intelligent super resolution technology which analyzes each image and optimizes the quality to deliver super sharp videos.
Beautiful design with high power and performance
Xperia Z1 also includes all of the features consumers have come to expect of a Sony smartphone. It combines Sony's acclaimed OmniBalance design with premium materials and precision engineering in a slim waterproof and dust resistant smartphone (IP55 & IP58). A solid one-piece aluminium frame with tempered glass on the front and back ensures beauty and durability as well as a consistent viewing experience from different angles.
Xperia Z1 features the fully integrated Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU and 4G LTE to provide a seamless connected entertainment experience and amazing speed. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor features the latest GPU and dual ISP for incredible graphics, 3D games and videos. The Xperia Z1 also includes a 3000 mAh battery for a high battery performance. Sony's Battery STAMINA Mode automatically turns off functions to save power when you don't need them and restarts them when you do.
Out of the box entertainment with Sony's media applications and technologies
Xperia Z1 integrates PlayMemories Online3, a cloud-based image and video service that is integrated into the Album application. A new 'All Sync' feature enables users to instantly auto-upload all of their photos without storage limitation3.
Sony's "WALKMAN" and Movies applications are also included and provide access to more than 22 million songs on the "WALKMAN" app through Music Unlimited and more than 150K movies and TV series on the Movies app through Video Unlimited2 from Sony Entertainment Network.
Xperia Z1 comes with an incredible entertainment offer that includes five great movies plus an exclusive movie access pass to the digital release of Sony Pictures' summer blockbuster as well as a two-month free trial of Sony's Music Unlimited4 streaming service plus ten games from PlayStation Mobile.

I was told a few weeks ago that the new unlock codes for the latest iphone 4 were not yet released by apple. Does anyone know when they are coming out?

Hi. ONLY the cellular provider can authorize unlocking. In Canada, only Rogers and Fido provide unlocking.

  • Xperia z1not coming on at all

    Hello,
My Sony xperia z1 is not powering on at all, i have tried the power button and vol reset but it's still not working.i connected the power cable and the LED just keeps blicking  red. But the phone is still dead.please help .

    Hi Anaha,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
You could also try holding down the Power Key and Volume Up key and then connecting the handset to a PC, you would need to wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour before trying to powering it on again.
If that does not help, then following Alexdons instructions would be the best option.
    I hope this helps.

  • 2.3.3 in Canada.....When oh when will it be available?

When I bought my Xperia X10 in August 2010, I bought it with the assurance that the 2.1 update was "right around the corner" and "imminent."  We now know that
imminent was 4 months later in November.  After this debacle, Sony Ericsson apologized, admitted it screwed up and vowed it would never happen again.
Well, here we are again.  The information start to flow at the end of July that the 2.3.3 update was imminent, to sit tight.  Well, here we are at the end of August
with no sign of the 2.3.3 update in sight.
I am a Rogers Wireless customer.  Rogers says essentially the same thing.  THEY TOO have been led to believe the 2.3.3 update was imminent.
WHEN will this update be released?  The last communique I saw from SE said it would be avilable "in the weeks" ahead, apologizing saying Sony knows
this was not what we want to hear as customers.  WHEN will the 2.3.3 update be made available to the SE Canadian customers?
These repeated delays gives SE a terrible reputation in the customer service area.  Most SE phone users will tell you the hardware on these
phones is great, the software generally is ok BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT IS AWFUL.
Please tell us when the 2.3.3 update is coming to Canada.  Saying "in the coming weeks" is an embarrassment.

  • IPhone Availability in Canada -- When?

Is there any possibility of the iPhone FINALLY coming to Canada? I'm rather disappointed in Apple for not having brought it to Canada yet. Apple is usually so good about this, what's the hold up here?

It depends upon what you mean by the phrase, "Apple hasn't tried to strike deals with any dealer in Canada".
On January 16, 2007 (just after the Apple Inc. iPhone announcement) a Rogers Wireless Customer Service Representative returned email to my inquiry of, "When will Rogers be selling the iPhone?" The email was quite clear on the Rogers position:
On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, Apple announced the unveiling of their new
    iPhone, a combination mobile phone/digital music player/camera
    Availability
    - The iPhone will first be introduced in North America
    - Cingular is the only wireless carrier to launch the iPhone in the
    United States
    - Rogers is actively working with Apple to launch the iPhone in Canada
as soon as possible and will be the exclusive provider of the iPhone in Canada
    - Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone in Europe (Q4 2007) and Asia
    (2008)
    - Please be advised that Rogers will be offering the iPhone exclusively
in Canada. Unfortunately, the launch date and pricing for Canada are not
    yet available
    - Other Canadian wireless carriers will not launch the iPhone, Rogers
will be the only Canadian wireless carrier to offer the iPhone
Obviously, Rogers was pretty convinced that Apple was talking with them. Just as obviously, the dealing fell through.
Who's fault is it? Do we really need to blame someone?
If we really need to blame someone, given the success of the iPhone, I would tend towards Rogers being the ones who "left the table".
Well, OK. It was probably Apple that walked away, technically, since Apple seems to have been the ones making the physical trip for negotiations. Apple went to a Rogers-owned table in a Rogers-owned building. Rogers said something to the effect of, "We don't like your deal, Apple, because you're asking us to lower our data rates from $5/KB to a flat fee. We're the only GSM player in Canada. Wha'cha gonna do now, Apple?" Apple left Rogers table since Rogers was unwilling to budge from that position and that's a horrible way to market the iPhone.

  • How do I deal with items lost in the mail. This has happened a few times.

I have had a few occasions where items have been lost in the mail.  Should I have to refund the buyer?

Well, this is a tricky one.The postal service is very very good at its job and it is very very rare that shipments don't get delivered. And coin collectors have a reputation ...... Well, if you can't say something nice. We've been selling by mail order for over 30 years, and of thousands upon thousands of shipments, I don't think even two dozen have ever been 'lost'. (Some have been returned for one reason or another and some have been delayed.) Given the low prices on your listed items, I assume that you don't use tracking. Given the cost, this is probably wise. So. You should be self-insuring (Cookie Jar Insurance). This means adding a small amount to every asking or shipping price, less than a dime, and putting all those virtual pennies into a virtual cookie jar. When you get a claim, you pay from the Cookie Jar. No eBay or PP involvement. And use PP Send Money for the refund. The FVF are also being covered by the Cookie Jar. I'd make a couple of minor changes to your standard feedback. Leave it on shipping, but add the date of shipping and the service used. This, in my opinion, will reassure your nervous honest buyer that the item is on its way but is coming from Canada, which might signal border displays. But if you get a claim that an item hasn't been delivered and you don't have Proof of Delivery, refund and move on. Being a grouchy and cynical person, I would also add that person to my Blocked Bidder List. At the very least, the address is not secure. Some other comments, completely unasked for: You might also want to add a grade to your coins. And since they are not top quality, the weight for those collecting bullion might be useful. I believe all the coins of Canada are catalogued by Charlton. Adding the catalogue number to your titles may help buyers in Search and makes you look more professional. Your description shows on my monitor as very small and a run-on block. Consider adding a little coding for easier reading. And you say:  buyer pays shipping and handling charges $1.00 in North America, actual shipping costs outside of North America, $0.50 for each additional item,You only have the shipping set for Canada. You don't need to put the shipping and handling cost into the description since it is already there in the appropriate tab.  I am not responsible for uninsured items. Yes, you are. And the buyer has no way of insuring an item you send. And insurance protects the seller not the buyer. Drop this, go to Cookie Jar Insurance and move on. Look for other sellers items for more coins for sale. Grammar police. This is actually telling your customers to go to 'other sellers'. Not a good idea. Missing the apostrophe.Change this to 'More coins available. Look at my other listings.' Don't refer to yourself in the third person.  Thanks for bidding and good luck in your auctions.Irrelevant and annoying to those impulsive mobile buyers. And the auctions you want him to use are yours not his. Again grammar police, but I am a retired editor and I just can't stop.

  • Texting on iPhone - SureType hack/app?

So as some of you know, the iPhone is finally coming to Canada and I've been holding out and waiting so I don't have to mess with unlocking one. The LG Vu has just been launched on Rogers and raised a couple questions as far as txting goes, I haven't found much info when I googled it...
Is Qwerty the only layout option to text with? Is there a T9 option? Lastly, is it possible with the ability to write new native apps now, that someone could write something that would allow a SureType typing layout like a Blackberry Pearl?
The reason I'm asking is I've had a Pearl for about a year and a half and LOVE the keyboard, but it's inevitable I'll be getting the iPhone. I have fat fingers though and love the SureType layout. I know the Vu has the T9 option and I see the new HTC's are getting SureType, any possibility of adding this to iPhone anytime soon?

This link should answer some of your questions.

I guess anything is possible with 3rd party software as long as it meets Apple's approval.

  • HD TV show (Monk) doesn't look very HD on the AppleTV

Is it playing the SD or HD? It sure doesn't look good.
Also, you can only buy the SD from the AppleTV menus.

Hey, Kenuck, do you know when HD TV shows are coming to Canada?
The link you gave to the Apple Canada website does say that we can watch HD TV shows, as you quoted, and that we can buy Grey's Anatomy. Both of these things are unavailable at the iTunes Canada store and I can't find a date for when/if they are coming to the Canada store.
Anybody know when/if HD shows are coming to Canada?

Hi, I was thinking of buying a blackberry playbook, however I was wondering how could I connect without Wi-Fi connectivity?
I'm aware of blackberry bridge, but as far as I'm aware that only works in browser, what if I would like to use other apps that use internet too? My BlackBerry is BlackBerry Bold 9780 on O2 - UK.
Also - I'm aware that a 4G version is coming to Canada on August 9th, however, for someone who uses internet through their phone like me, would this be needed?

  • Sitting on the Fence

My husband is excited that the iPad is coming to Canada at the end of the month. I figured he would be signing up to pre-order but he said no. He thinks he might wait until next year in case they release a different model with different features. I was thinking of buying him one for his Birthday/Father's Day. Should I follow suit and just wait until next year?

I would not say do or don't, but I would say either way you win. For a gift, if there is nothing else as good, it would be a very nice gift.
I just bought one about a week ago and I like it much more than I thought I would. About a year ago I go first the Kindle, and then the Kindle DX, and ended up returning them, so if I did not like the iPad I would have returned it.
In fact, I use the Kindle reader app much more than the iPad reader app. Don't really like the iPad reader app and though I like the e-paper display on the Kindle, I like the iPad display better. I think I will be more likely to read an iPad in the dark than to be on a beach or somewhere and want the read in bright sunlight capability that the Kindle gives one.
I got the 64GB one because as someone said, you can't upgrade, so you gotta do it now and not regret. I also got WiFi ... but no 3G. Could have gone either way, but WiFi is faster than 3G and I don't think I will need 3G. If it was able to be used as a cellphone, I would have done it. The WiFi works well although coming out of sleep mode it takes a while.
The memory I have very quickly filled up much of it. I have a lot of audiobooks, and podcasts and videocasts. I like to watch news, and free iTunesU videoclasses. This thing is great.
I thought the screen would be hard to read because I am slightly far-sighted and cannot read small print. It is not much of a problem. The finger scrolling and expanding works well.
The audio and video works well. The reader, the web is nice. I hope to be able to see things like Hulu soon enough, and it would be nice to use have a wireless earphones and microphone ... none are out yet ... with microphone.
I have a few minor criticisms, but I think it is useful enough to be "there" now, so it is not a toy or a waste ... I figure until I will want to upgrade to whatever is next I will use the heck out my iPad.
Be warned that the peripherals are not cheap. I spent $40 on the case, about $80 on a Booq Taipan Shadow XS bag, that I think is the best out there, and about $80 on the keyboard charger stand. Just spent more on bluetooth headphone to be able to walk arounda and listen to my iPad.
Also ... there is a Skype "audio" app that is free, so you can make phone calls with it.
So ... it's a good gift, but whatever is going to be next year will likely be OK as well. I was hoping for video camera, flash animation capability, and more memory. The OS takes some getting used to as well. All it all it is very useful for me and that is my big thing. Apple has done a good job. With as many computers as I have bought, built and used, it was not until I got my iMac that I feel that I have a real useful computer that adds to my life and is not just a gadget ... the iPad feels similar.

  • WORST customer service experience, xperia care Canada

Hello, I have been desperately trying to get my voice heard and report about extremely unprofessional, unethical, and inappropriate customer service provided by Sony Xperia Canada.I bought my Xperia Z2 when I was in Finland last year. I decided to make this purchase because it claimed to be waterproof. I had carefully studied and followed all the necessary precautions while taking photos underwater. Just after a couple of months of use, the phone displayed following problems;Cover of charging port use to fall ofPhone was frequently loosing signals (other phones were functioning properly, same time same place)WIFI and 4G performance was inconsistent (other phones were functioning properly, same time same place)Occasionally phone rebooted itselfFor these reasons, the unit was sent under warranty 3 times between the period of July and December 2014. In January 2015, I came to BC, Canada for study purposes. The phone encountered same problems and was sent 4th time for repair to Sony Xperia Canada. I got the phone back after one month in March 2015. In June 2015, I visited a BC lake and at the bank I dipped the unit under water barely few inches to catch some fish on the camera, within seconds the unit shut itself down. Although all the covers were properly closed but it didn’t even take a minute that water somehow penetrated in the system. I immediately tried to dry and opened the covers and saw a tiny stream of water coming out of the charging dock. I opened all the covers and waited for a couple of days, hoping it will dry. Then I put it to charge and saw the “red light” on, tried to turn it on after few hours of charging but it just vibrated a little but no display. I sent the phone again because it was still under warranty. The phone was sent in the end of June 2015, on 20th of July I got an email from SBE (repairing company), informing me that the cost will be beyond economic repair and if I want the phone back, I must pay $25 diagnostic fee. I told them that I had clearly stated my case to Sony and claimed it to be a defect in manufacturing or in the fixation done back in Feb 2015. SBE suggested I should contact Sony as they wont negotiate anything with me. I thought that Xperia care will contact me because they must have the same info. No word came from them and I finally contacted them on August 4th 2015. They told me, in their system the repair is still “under progress”. I was surprised to find out that they have no communication with the repair company so I informed them about the email that I received from SBE. And the customer service agent was like “oh yeah I see, so it is beyond economic repair and you have to pay $25 to get the phone back”. Absolute genius! This conversation took place on chat server. I requested him to give me a contact number so I can call and talk to somebody who knows. A number was given, I called and again I had to repeat the entire story to another agent as she did not have any clue. I felt like I am banging my head with a wall. Upon me insisting, she put me through to a manager called Alex, yet again I had to play the same film to make him understand what I actually mean. He promised that he will take a look into the matter and will get back to me within 24 hours. This was on 4th of August, today is 6th. Today I received an email from repairing company (SBE) again, they informed me that I have not responded so far and I have 30 days to pay $25 to get the phone back or it will be SBE’s property. Alex never got back to me and evidently he didn’t even bother to care to contact SBE. So I called Sony Xperia “care” again just few minutes ago, another agent picked up the call and I knew I have to tell me the entire story again. All they do is “apologize” or “thanks” but real work never gets done. He told me, Alex is busy on another case and will contact me as soon as possible. It has already been an hour and I really think he will not, because Sony has never contacted me, it was always me. I have lived in 4 different countries; my field is indirectly linked with new technologies and IT business in particular. This is the WORST communication and customer service system that I have ever encountered. I don’t know if there is anybody that I can report it to. But Sony, like its phone competitors, Apple, Samsung, or HTC, sells expensive devices but the level of customer services and after sales services is undeniably inferior.

Thank you for replying.  The link you provided, I had used always in my previous queries. It directs me to the same people again, Xperia Care Canada. I haven't got any concrete answer or response from them. And I just dont know how can I approach someone who could actually make some sense so I decided to post it here.

Why is my email coming addressed to Holidays in Canada.  My google profile has my correct name, and it has my correct name on other devices, but on our new computer it comes up as Holidays in Canada. The address is correct, but the name is wrong.

    I did several things...
    1. Went into Google calendars and made sure the "Holidays in Canada" box was UN-checked
    2. Went into my Calendars on my Mac and made sure the "Holidays in Canada" was UN-checked
    3. I had a new email address too, so I went into my contacts and made sure I had my new email address under my own name in my contacts
I then went back to my mail and it no longer shows up as "Holidays in Canada" either in the To or From fields
