Xperia Z3 Screen Concern

HI Community.
I have been considering getting the Xperia Z3 recently, however I am concerned regarding an issue that I have heard whispers of. According to what I have read there have been reports of users claiming that the screen is fragile, cracking when no excessive force or impact has been applied to the device. I would like to ask the users of this device if you have experienced this issue yourselves and whether it is a common problem.
The model of the Z3 I have been thinking of purchasing is the flagship model and not the compact.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Firstly, thank you for the continued feedback from the community. anj71, your comment has in fact confirmed my fear, while I do understand and appreciate where the other members are coming from you have confirmed that there is indeed a chance of this problem occurring. If I did get the Xperia I would of course buy a case for it, the one in particular I have my eye on is the Case-Mate Tough, it looks sturdy and protective. It is unusual for Sony to manufacture a product to poor standard so I assume this issue however rare it must be to be a manufacturing accident. In the days before smart phones I either always had Sony Ericsson or Nokia, for the past five years I have had an iPhone 4 and feel it is time for a change. I look after my stuff and my iPhone is still in amazing condition but I feel like giving android a go at this point. I had my heart set on the Xperia but hearing this makes me worry, I would probably buy some after care for it but I will be buying the unit from Amazon if I still go for it. I have heard of some users having a nightmare with Sony over the warranty due to disbelief that the phone has a manufacturing defect as would seem to be the case.
If I don't go for the Xperia I would probably get a Nexus however after having a look at it online I feel that the Nexus 6 is too big for me. I would probably look at the Nexus 5 if I go down that road but getting one is a problem because they have ceased production of that model. The only ones I can find are the European imports on eBay (I live in the UK). While I am confident it will work here I will not have any warranty due to the device originating from overseas. I'll continue to have a think about the Xperia because that's the one I really did want.
Again, thanks to all for the continued feedback. If anybody has any other information to share that would also be appreciated.

My Xperia z1 screen cracked while in my pocket..Will this be covered under the warranty? Also how do I remove the pattern lock to back up my data and stuff on the PC as i have no touch feedback in that area.
Also if not covered under the warranty how much will it cost to replace the screen? just a ball park figure would do.

  • Chip/Scratch on Xperia Z1 Screen

    Hey guys,
I have managed to get chip in my Xperia Z1 screen. Its pretty tiny, but its really annoying me. I'm pretty sure the the damage is only on the shatter proof film, not the screen itself. Is there any way I can have the film replaced? Ive read that if I remove the film I will void my warranty.

The film its not sold separately, you will have to replace the digitizer
This is my suggestion, buy a scratch resistant film and apply on top or buy a glass screen protector like this
    http://theglass-m.com/products/glass-m-premium-tempered-glass-screen-protector-for-sony-xperia-z1
    it might hide the scratch

  • Xperia lock screen deleted

My Xperia lock screen got deleted while updating to kitkat, now it's just the normal google lock screen when swipe is selected

You can go to settings-security and set a PIN/password etc.

  • Xperia Z2 screen flickers white color white screen is on after receiving notification

I would like to bring to your notice that i bought new xperia z2 on 14 june 2015, the next day onwards i faced display problem ( screen flickers), i recorded that as evidence and submitted for DOA request after many follow ups i got approval. Yesterday i bought new device xperia z2 from same vendor, as a return of defective piece. I observe same problem with this device also. I lost trust on Sony brand. I am not having time and patience to follow with you within 7 days showing problem as it occurs sometimes, hence i am dropping mail.request you to address the problem. I am not if it is a software bug or hardware issue. After upgrading software from service center problem persists.

  • How much to replace Xperia Z1 Screen

Basically my z1 has a huge crack in the screen and i want to know how much is it to get replaced with an orginal screen like not those compatible ones or should I say fake.

This is the LCD screen i found from the third party http://www.witrigs.com/oem-complete-lcd-screen-with-digitizer-replacement-parts-for-sony-xperia-z1-b...,  if you can try to replace yourself, it costs just the price of the LCD screen.
And with this information, you can go to the service center to ask about the price, make a contrast, then have a choice.

  • Xperia Z2 Screen Self Developed Crack

    Hi
My Sony Xperia Z2 has developed self-crack on it's front display. I took the phone out from my front pocket and was shocked to see that display has developed self-crack. The glass is not broken from outside but it has developed some sort of crack in the centre of the display because of which touch is not responding. I visited your Dehradun service centre but they refused to accept the phone even though it is still in warranty. I researched over the internet and found that many user faced same issue and your Z series is having this problem but luckily there phone were replaced for free. I am a loyal sony customer from last 4 years and used many sony phones in the past so hope Sony will not disappoint me.
Please tell me how can I get my phone repaired/replaced. Warranty of the phone is valid till 19th August 2015
Here are links of some of the posts of the user who faced similar issue

  • Help!!!! Xperia Z2 Screen flicker then gone!

I just bought new Z2 12 days ago. Today when i am trying to use the phone, the screen backlight start to flicker from strong to dim for a moment...after i try to adjust the brightness to lowest, the flickering stop. Then i readjust the brightness level to higher level, the screen start to flicker again for a moment then totally gone.... when i connect to sony tv via mhl cable, the phone funnction work perfectly as displayed in tv with touch screen function on the phone, just that no picture on phone screen or is it due to backlight problem? Really feel disappointed with sony....

I apologise for the late reply; there could be a number of reasons for this however it would be worth at least ruling out a software issue by attempting a software repair:
    1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
    2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
    3. Phone Software Update.
    4. Start.
    5. Repair Phone
    6. Continue
    7. Accept data removal
    8. Next
    9. Wait for prepare
    10. Select Phone
    11. Follow the connection steps

  • Xperia Z Screen Cracked & Touch not working..

Hii.. This is regarding my xperia z phone. I purchased in april 2013, got a replacement Phone in NOV 2013 and now I had my fone in good condition.. I got my scratchguard changed n got a bubble in between.. I pressed vertically so that the bubble may disappear but it cracked my device from the top..        The top part of the cracked screen has lost its touch.. I went to the Service centre talked to the manager And he said that It cannot be replaced as it is out of purchase date.. he told me a figure around 15k to replace the fone..    M using the fone by rotating n all.. I didnt xpect sony xperia Z to b so so so weak.. Its really heartbreaking that i lost my fone while adjusting d screenguard bubble,,  I need SoNy to read my post so that they could provide a better option for me.. 15k is half d price of the fone n i think i deserve a replacement again.. This fone cracked so lightly n lost its touch..  I read that this fone was strong but I think d replacement gave me an already damaged Sony xperia Z.. Its just 5 months n this happens. .  NEED YOUR ATTENTION SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With due respect i am reporting this issue to mark your attention regarding the virtual damage developed at its own in my xperia z I have purchased the Xperia Z on 2nd Feb 2014During the use of 2 months i got some hanging issue in my phone and i was advised to replace it by sony service center at Faridabad. Howsoever i simply left it there for replacement. After a week i got a phone which was said to be new. At the time of picking it i saw a slight line over the top of screen. That line was hardly visible if you will tilt the phone then you will see it otherwise you will never recognize it.But the executive said that it is not a problem you can use it, if you will face any problem we will further replace it(Because xperia z series can't be open so the replacement was the only option) There after i got a kitkat update and i have upgraded it at my office via wifi. After ward i got a sever problem of heating during calling and regular use.On enquiry from service centre they said it is not a problem it is happening due to some unstable version of google service and advised to uninstall the google service till the next update comes. I have un-stalled and reinstalled it later but no relief regarding the heating problem. One side i was concious about the heating problem and suddenly my phone starts unresponsive many times. Slowly and gradually the slight mark on screen at top stretched to top to bottom and i was helpless because i was in my village where there was no such service centres available. This time my friend advised to approach service center.and i went there to diagnose all these issues. But people at service centre didn't take it under warranty and said its a physical damage.  My question is how it got physically damaged, even there is no clue of broken edges and scratches on screen or around. After my read on google i got my answer that it was not abused by me but some units might have such defects and on sever heating it can be stretched to whole screenfind the reference urlshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/xperia-z-zr-ul-z-ultra-display-issue-1-t2515293/http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Xperia-z-glass-back-cracked-on-it-s-own/td-p/321733/page/44 current status is under warrantyat technocare solutions pvt ltd service centre at lajpat nagar Delhiissue : touch damage (not considered under warranty)ticket id: 14112202378job no: W114112202378Date : 22 Nov 2014 Please issue a new unit under the warranty condition instead of paid repairing .Other wise i have to appeal consumer court/consumer forums for same.

Hi I bought an Xperia E1 the last week, but today I was using using it normally when the screen turned off.Now the screen is totally black with no light, even after rebooting or repairing my phone with Sony PC Companion (but i can hear the booting melody when I turn it on). Somebody got an idea on how to fix this ? Thank you PS: Sorry if I do english errors because I'm french

i bought xperia e1 dual on july after 1 day i recieve a notification of update so i updated it. when its done i off it until the next day when i turn it on the screen already like got virus many lines n blurred so i take it back to sony centre where i bought it. I ask them to repace it or change but they cannot change it they said  because it was aready registered on my name. What is that? They only told me they will repair the handphone in 2 weeks time and now it already 3 weeks the sony centre still never give it back on me.

  • Have or not Xperia Z3 screen protector(anti-shatter film) out of the box

Hello as read from earlier review of the device seems that Sony once again put screen protector out of the box!!
If that is true it is very disappointing and unacceptable since with Xperia Z2 that I own for 5.5 months didn't have it.
Can anyone from Sony official confirm that?
And if customers can throw the protector without effecting Sony logo?
    Thanks.

There is no Anti Shatter Film on this handset, much the same as the Xperia Z2.

  • Xperia Z3 - Screen/Water damage

    Hello,
I Have Sony Xperia Z3 which i tried it into a water for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds in water i found out that the touch isn't working but the screen still works, so i dried the phone and left it on table. (THE INDICATORS WERE WHITE) Later i tried to restart it and the screen went black. I had the phone in rice for almost a week and i tried to connect it with my PC and i reinstalled the system using PC Companion, but i still couldn't fix the screen. Somehow the touch became responsive but the screen was still black, so i was able to call, answer to calls etc using my pc (i was making screenshots and i was openning them from pc so i could knew in what menu am i on the phone).
After 1 week from the incident i brought the phone in a authorized sony service where they told me that the motherboard and screen should be replaced. I didn't accept that and i brought the phone to another private service.
So my question is: Is it possible to be motherboard problem if i can call/answer calls and do all things a phone can do except to see the screen (completely black with responsive touch) ?

I'm sorry to hear that, but you have to contact your local Xperia Care and request a vacuum test http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/
