XPS 13 9343 touchpad firmware

I have one of the new XPS 13 laptops that's plagued with poor touchpad performance.  It looks like a new firmware was released to address this problem but it's only supported for installation on Windows 8.1.  I have already removed 8.1 and clean-installed Windows 7 and when I attempt flashing it crashes.  What are my options for installing this update?  Only thing I can think of is temporarily installing 8.1 just to install the update then switching back to Win7 as the firmware should be independent of the OS, but that would be a huge pain.
Here's a thread (one of many) that outlines the poor performance and provides a link to the update: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19616659
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Todd

Hi I'm the original poster.  I originally used an old work login of "RustonPaving" for ease but as this is turning into a bigger situation than I anticipated I'd like to transition this conversation over to this personal login I've just created.  I'll send you the friend request from this profile in a moment.
Thanks for the help so far on this, although I've got to disagree with you on the firmware issue.  Firmware is generally installed onto an EEPROM on the hardware device and has nothing to do with the hard drive and would therefore persist through OS changes, hard drive replacements, formatting, etc.  Anyway, don't want to belabor the point.  Let me know what you're able to make happen on your end.
To clarify the problems I'm having as there seem to be several different symptoms floating around, here's a list of the issues I'm having:
- 2 finger scrolling is difficult, it generally doesn't register and instead just moves the cursor up and down.
- Finger tapping can be overly sensitive and cause unwanted clicks.  The only sensitivity setting in the Dell touchpad utility effects overall sensitivity, not just tapping.  So if I decrease sensitivity it makes it almost impossible to even move the cursor around.
Thanks,
Todd

  • Carbon X1 2014 - New Touchpad firmware will not install

    Hi,
Becuase of the very fiddegy Touchpad on my new Carbon X1 2014 (20A8) I was looking forward to installing the new firmware update realeased 19 Aug 2014, becuase it should address some of the annoying issues I have with the touchpad.
According to the readme file, my computer is supported, but when I run the SynReflash.exe to upgrade, I consistently get this message back: "Reflash cannot find firmware updates for the devices on this system".
What's wrong here?? Can you help?
PS. Running Windows 8.1 Update 1 (x64). The UltraNav driver (18.0.7.40) is installed and working, even though I have to disable all gesture support to get a somwhat predictable mouse action when using the touchpad.
    Some help would be great.
    Thanks.

I would like to have a response in this forum from Lenovo. We are more people with touchpad problems and issues with installing the latest firmware update for the Synaptics 'pad'.
I checked the version of the touchpad and it's: TM-2937, FW 1581359.
Is the firmware update not designed to work with this touchpad in my Carbon X1? If not, then why is my X1 (20A8) listed as a supported device in the firmware text file???
    Some help or clarification please.....
    Thank you.

  • GE60 2PE Don't boot to BIOS, notebook bricked.

Hello, Yesterday night I was watching a youtube show on my netbook, running without power supply only with the battery (I only done this for 3 times in 7 months so I'm not worried about battery being discharged) and I fall sleep. This morning when I waked up, I tried to boot from hibernation to properly shutdown the system but the netbook doesn't boot.
    Things I tried to do:
1º - I tried to power on normally only running from battery. Only power on with blue/orange power light, and a small light from the HDD for 2 seconds nothing happened.
2º - Power off by pressing power button for 4 seconds. I waited 5 mins I plugged in the power adaptor and I tried again with same results, don't boot.
3º - Removed battery and power adaptor, I pressed power button for 60 seconds to discharge (i saw this advice on Youtube). Plugged in only power adaptor and tried to power on. Same results, don't boot.
4º - Removed battery and power adaptor, presed power button for 60 seconds to discharge (). I connected the netbook to my TV with a HDMI cable, plugged in only power adaptor and tried to power on. Same results, don't boot.
    Symptoms:
Power on, power LED in blue color for half second later turns to orange color only, no blinking only the same orange color all the time. The fan starts to spin in normal speed, HDD led blinks for 1-2 seconds and off. The screen is off (no light even on the back cover where the MSI dragon badge is), don't appears MSI logotype, no BIOS mesage or sound, no screen(fully black no backlight) no HDD. Laptop keeps running.
    System info:
    MSI GE60-2PE "Apache Pro",
Geniune Windows 8.0 PRO (My own license not from MSI, and it's 8.0 not 8.1 I don't like to update)
BIOS UEFI in fast boot mode, legacy USB disable. USB Handoff fixes disabled in BIOS, Enabled only boot from HDD/win8. The rest i think it's default settings.
    BIOS: E16GFIMS.529 (previously .528 and .526)
    Motherboard: MS16-GF
EC Firmware: 16GFEMS1.50B (I can't remember if I updated firmwares previously)
    Touchpad Firmware: 03
HDD:Standart WD HDD, no msata drives. No intel RAID.
    DVD: Standart LG DVD.
    RAM: 4Gb Standart Samsung/Hynix? SODIMM + 4Gb GSkill DD3L 1.666Mhz (1.35v) upgraded by myself.
All drivers installed with the exception of the integrated radio switch controller.
Intel HD 4600 - OK (updated 01/2015 from manufacturer)
Nvidia Graphics - OK (updated 12/2014 from manufacturer)
    Intel WiFi/Bluetooth 3160 - OK (updated 01/2015 from manufacturer)
Atheros KillerNIC - OK (Drivers version from MSI DVD)
Elantech Touchpad - OK (updated in 01/2015 from MSI support page)
Intel chipset stuff - OK (update 12/2014 from manufacturer)
Webcam - OK (no drivers installed, work with windows8 deafult drivers)
    Software installed:
Only MSI KLM (keyboard light manager) with also installed a SCM service.
The netbook worked smooth since the begining until today for 7 months (really great hardware). The only thing i suppose that could be a problem with BIOS update (I updated two weeks ago) or EC firmware (I updated 3-4 weeks ago), since I don't worked withour power adaptor from new year, until today.
There's something I could do that I miss? a reset jumper, or reset CMOS button. Or I should ask to RMA to my netbook shop.
PD: I don't like to get a replacement netbook from other RMA user. I want my machine, I know what it's done and how it's done,  I have my stickers in mint condition, I know my battery is well mantained, I have my FAN clean, I have the exterior and screen really clean and without scratches, have all my personal data on HDD. Should be worried about getting someones netbook? I should remove the HDD to avoid my personal data being compromised and I can lose them (i don't have backup)?
Also apologize my english, but the spanish forum looks empty and dead, only see news.

I suppose so, thanks chc for your time reading my issue.
I should contact my shop for RMA.

  • Right-click weirdness in Boot Camp

I'm seeing something weird and can't find any information on the problem. When using the "two finger, click" maneuver to right-click in OSX, it works fine. When using the same two-finger, click in a Windows Vista VM (via Fusion), it works fine.
However, when doing the exact same two-finger, click in the Boot Camp Vista instance (which incidentally is the same Vista instance that works fine in Fusion), it doesn't work... instead, touching the pad with THREE fingers and clicking is what it takes to perform a right-click! What the heck? My first thought is that there is a serious bug in the Boot Camp touchpad drivers, because it works as expected in OSX and a Vista VM, neither of which use the Boot Camp touchpad drivers.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior, and if there is a fix for it? I just installed the new touchpad firmware for OSX but as expected it didn't change how the touchpad works in Boot Camp. I'm running the Boot Camp drivers that ship with 10.5.5... are there newer ones available somewhere?

This has been frustrating me for days. Another thing about it that doesn't work is that if you enable tap-to-click, you still have to push down with three fingers and click (instead of tapping) to get it to work. As a new Mac user, I must say I'm disappointed in their driver support for Boot Camp.
Anyone else notice how hot the bottom of the MBP gets when in Boot Camp for any length of time? I'm worried the temperature/fan control isn't very well programmed too. Video card and memory controller heating up badly.

Try and connect a USB mouse if that works then download newer version of touchpad drivers and install it and see if it works if same thing after that then try doing a touchpad firmware update and see if it will bring touchpad functionality back to life.

  • MSI GE70 2OE Can't load BIOS

    Hi
I wanted to install the latest BIOS version for my GE70 2OE but when I try to access my BIOS the screen remains stuck on the black screen with the MSI logo and just one underscore that is not blinking. It seems like it is stuck loading the BIOS page (fan starts to make noise). I tried everything: updated EC and TouchPad Firmware, removing battery, accessing the bios via Windows 8.1 but nothing works. The BIOS version I have currently installed is: E1757IMS.517. This version was flashed by MSI when I sent my laptop for RMA. Before I had already successfully flashed my BIOS. Also F11 to access the boot device menu doesn't work.
I have no further issues with the laptop. Everything seems to work like it should. The only thing I can't do is a clean install.
Is there any way to resolve this issue without sending the laptop for RMA? Is there a way to flash the bios from inside Windows?
Maybe removing the CMOS battery could help but I don't know where it is located.
    Thanks in advance

yes, you can reflash it within windows,
use attached one, extract all files somewhere then click on FLASHWIN64.BAT

  • Dell XPS Touchpad Driver No Longer Working in Build 10041. Was fine with Build 9926

First of this is an old Dell, but from Vista through to Windows 8.1 Update, and then the initial Windows 10 Tech Preview Builds the Mouse Drivers have been OK. Its not so much the core mouse driver, but the feature extensions in the Accompanying driver bundle
that have stopped working.  i.e. the ability to control finger scrolling and tapping, etc.
The Dell supplied drivers for my laptop (XPS M1330) ended with Windows 7 32bit, However, newer Dell laptop models had compatible, fully functioning drivers that could be installed.  That was until build 10041.
    So my questions are:
    1. Anyone found a compatible driver for a Dell XPS with the Alps/Synaptics Touchpad model?
    2. If MS Staffers read this, I understand that the model for Windows 10 is... "if it worked in an earlier Windows it will work in Windows 10", so, is this likely to be fixed?
Other than this issue, which is very irritating because working with a very limited mouse is a pain when the mouse supports other touch features, my Windows 10 experience has been really good.
    Cheers,
    Pete

    Hi Alex,
I found a semi-compatible driver for the Synaptics Touchpad, which is found searching for Dell KB R293038.exe
This driver provides basic two finger touchpad scroll support and chiral scroll.  It doesn't support advance Windows 8/8.1/10 swipe features.
Importantly this driver does not support two finger/chiral scroll gestures in Windows Modern Apps like the Store, or Project Spartan, or any other Windows Modern Apps.
Hopefully the Windows 10 Tech Preview Team will be able to work out what they changed that broke the Synaptics Touchpad gestures for so many people posting about the issue on these forums.
    Cheers,
    Pete

  • Cypress Touchpad - DELL XPS 12

    Hello,
I'm owner of a DELL XPS 12 convertable notebook which has as inpunt device an ATMEL maXTouchDigitizer (Touchscreen) and a Cypress touchpad.
The touchscreen works like expected, after an installationen of a new Arch Linux System with desktop enviorement (XOrg - Server + Gnome). But the Touchpad would'nt recognized by the system and passed to XOrg. It is also not listed in XInput or dmesg. I'm running the current default kernel (3.17.x).
If i run a live enviorment like Antergos (Arch derivate) then both, the Touchscreen and the Touchpad, works like a charm and out-of-the-box. The touchpad is listed in dmesg, XInput and HWInfo.
i have a problem to get my Cypress touchpad working on my DELL XPS 12 after installation of Arch Linux.
This means if i running a live enviorement like Antergos (Arch Linux derivate) the touchpad works like expected. Also my Touchscreen works without any problems.
I checked the loaded modules by lsmod in the live enviorment and the installed system. Only the "psmouse" module is missing in my installed system.
An other difference is the kernel version. Antergos LiveCD uses Kernel 3.15.x.
I've tried different things, kernel-patches, blacklisting of i2c-hid module, but nothing works.
I know that both kernels have the driver for an Cypress tochpad integrated.
Can you help me to solve this problem?
    Best Regards,
    Elazar

    Hi Matheus,
If you cannot install that driver, please check if you have chosen the right version.e.g. 64bit or 32bit.
Please let us know your system version.

  • WebOS Doctor encounters error updating touchpad/touchpanel firmware

I have encountered an issue with my TouchPad in that the panel no longer responds to touch.  It may have something to do with preware, but I should think that the webOS doctor would reset everything on the unit so that i could start over.  All attempts to run webOS Doctor encounter a firmware error leaving the unit unusable.

  • [Solved] No sound on Dell XPS 13 2015 (9343) with BIOS A03

I have been unable to get sound to work on my new 2015 Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition running kernel 4.0.1-1-ARCH.  Arch is the only OS installed.
I have checked the wiki page and this forum post, which seems to indicate it should work with this configuration out of the box.
However, audio does not play through the speakers (the speakers were working in the original Ubuntu 14.04 installation) and when I tried to un-mute the volume, as described in the ALSA wiki page I received the following message:
    $ amixer sset Master unmute
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Master',0
I am not sure what other pertinent information to post, please forgive my ignorance and let me know. Thank you for your assistance.

I have installed the patched kernel and rebooted twice but am still encountering the same problem. The only difference to altercation's instructions is that the aur package has been updated:
    $ uname -r
    4.0.2-1-xps13-alt
The output of amixer is identical to before. However, there are now two headphone channels visible in alsamixer, which were not present under the stock kernel.

The channel which is set at 20 gives a continuous "beep" (sine tone?) through headphones, when they are plugged into the jack.
This is the other sound card visible in alsamixer (and the one that is displayed by default):

The only other thing I have noticed in ~20 minutes of use are some graphical artefacts and flickering that occur with this kernel.  I have previously set the Intel graphics acceleration to uxa, as described in the wiki, because of issues with virtual terminals and resuming from suspend. The graphical issues I am currently encountering are very minor, however.
    Update:
Thanks to fumlead for this post. The problem seems to have been that the wrong card was set as default. Creating /etc/asound.conf and adding this:
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 1
has solved the problem under both the stock and aur kernels. I am going to stick with the stock kernel because of the graphical issues encountered with the alternate kernel. I am not currently using the audio jack for a microphone, which I believe should work for the alternate kernel but not the stock one.
There is a small bug with the speakers not automatically being silenced when headphones are plugged in, but hopefully that will be fixed in kernel 4.1.
Thank you to everyone who viewed and commented in this thread and special thanks to fumlead.

  • Firmware Idea: Touchpad Sensitiv

I think it should only respond to a tap when the finger touches only for a short time. If you leave your finger on the touchpad then it shouldn't respond. Hopefully this will help distinguish between taps and scrolling and help overcome accidental presses.
The downside could be slower responses as action is only taken when the finger is lifted and not at the first point of contact. Although this could be tuned. What do others think?

Just had a play around with my Zen Touch, and I think it does this already... which player are you using?

  • Dell XPS 13 (2015) - Windows 7/8.1 Dual Boot Audio Issue

Specs:  I have the i5 FHD XPS 13 9343 with 8gb of ram and 256gb SSD.
I bought the computer for dual personal and business purposes.  My company uses citrix to access virtual desktops and the security requirements are Windows 7/IE 9.  Upon purchase, I partitioned part of the hard drive and installed Windows 7 alongside Windows 8.1.
Installing Windows 7 through UEFI mode to avoid having to wipe my Windows 8.1 install was challenging but I succeeded and installed all the Windows 7 drivers on Dells website.  I got IE 9 and remote access up and running and thought I was good to go.  The touchpad is a little rough in Windows 7, however when I am remote working I always have a mouse so it's not a big deal.
Then the issue began.  I noticed that in Windows 8.1, when I put the computer to sleep, I would lose my audio device.  When I restarted it would still be gone, only a full shutdown would bring it back.  I also began to lose my audio device in Windows 7 either after sleep or entirely from a cold startup.
I have tried everything.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek drivers under windows 7 and 8.1 multiple times, tried to get microsoft HD audio drivers to install, even attempted a regedit fix I found on pcgamer.com.  Nothing has gotten me to the point where I can consistently sleep the computer in both OSes and regain sound, or restart between OSes and keep the sound.  Sometimes I can sleep the computer and keep sound, however once I lose it, I must shutdown and startup again to regain it.
The hard drive still has the original partitions from Dell.  I don't know if this has any effect.  My Windows 7 partition is 60 GB.
Anyone who has any idea what may be happening I would love some help.  I really don't want to wipe the HD since my remote access is so finicky and I would rather not lose that Windows 7 install at this time.

Well every so often the audio device stops working and it seems to disappear and reappear periodically. No audio will play and audio tests fail.
Have just uninstalled / reinstalled drivers (again) and it's back working, however I'm not getting my hopes up!
