Xquery + Oracle XML
How can I use XQuery to perform query's in documents xml that are stored in a column of the kind XMLTYPE?
How can I use XQuery on Oracle DB-XML?
"The directory paths for these JAR files are relative to the ORACLE_HOME directory of your Oracle Database installation."
So, to get the JARs you need to install the database (but you don't need to start it).
oracle.xml.xquery.OXQDataSource is in oxquery.jar.

Hello,
I am using Oracle SOA Suite 11.1.1.4.0 While executing the XQuery example bpel-108-UsingXQuery I am facing the following problem/error.
The Xquery in the example is:
xquery version "1.0";
declare namespace ns0 = "http://example.com/bpel/books";
declare namespace ns1 = "http://samples.otn.com/xquerysample";
declare variable $category as node() external;
declare variable $publisher as xs:string external;
<bookReport>
for $b in //ns0:BOOKS/ns0:ITEM
where data($b/ns0:PUBLISHER) = $publisher
order by string-length($b/TITLE) return
<book>
<author> { data($b/ns0:AUTHOR) } </author>
<title> { data($b/ns0:TITLE) } </title>
<price>{ data(doc("pricelist.xml")/ns1:pricelist/ns1:product[1]/ns1:price) }</price>
<publisher>{ $publisher }</publisher>
{ $category }
</book>
</bookReport>
The variable $publisher, declared in 'declare variable $publisher as xs:string external' shall have the value 'Associated Press' as this has been assigned in the BPEL but it has in fact the value 'oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLElement@8b8e58'.
The variable $category has the correct value.
What is here wrong or is it a bug in 11.1.1.4.0 in the oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLElement class.What a mess:
org.w3c.Element element = (org.w3c.Element) payload.get("payload");
private Document writeOraXMLtoDocument(org.w3c.Element payload) throws ParserConfigurationException, SAXException, IOException, TransformerException{
ByteArrayInputStream inputStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(writeXMLToStream(new DOMSource(payload)).toByteArray());
DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder builder =factory.newDocumentBuilder();
return builder.parse(inputStream);
private ByteArrayOutputStream writeXMLToStream(Source source) throws TransformerException {
ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
// Prepare the output file
Result result = new StreamResult(out);
// Write the DOM document to the file
TransformerFactory x = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer xformer = x.newTransformer();
xformer.transform(source, result);
return out;
Note, that you have to use the oracle transformer located in the xmlparserv2.jar
if it is not your default transformer , you have to set it at least for the above code by System.setProperty("javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory","..classname..."); -
Hi I am new to oracle xml.
In the below scenario how can use the functions like (to_char,To_date,trim..etc) In oracle xmltable."username","password" are inputs to my procedure.
SELECT *
INTO l_username,
l_password
FROM xmltable('/InputParameters/ParamSet'
passing l_xmldoc
COLUMNS
l_username VARCHAR2(28) path 'username',
l_password VARCHAR2(28) path 'password'
and please Help how to write above with xmlquery.
Thanks,In the same place you would for any regular SELECT statement
SELECT TO_CHAR(...),
TO_NUMBER(...)
FROM random_table
WHERE TO_CHAR(...) = col1
AND TO_NUMBER(...) = col2
username and password are the results of the SQL statement. I'm guessing l_xmldoc is the input? There is not need to write something so simple as XQuery so what is your larger goal? If you provide a clearer example and question, we can help you better. -
I'm using the XQuery Java API (OJXQI) and I managed to combine the content of local XML file and relational table from database in the following way:
FOR $a IN document ("bib.xml")/bib/book
FOR $b IN sqlquery("select * from scott.emp")/ROW
WHERE $b/SAL < $a/@year
RETURN
<EMP empID="{$b/EMPNO}"> {$b/ENAME} {$a/@year}</EMP>
Now I would like to reach the content of Oracle XML DB also. How to do it? I tried using the 'sqlquery' function like this:
FOR $a IN sqlquery("SELECT extractValue
(object_value,'/PurchaseOrder/Reference')
FROM purchaseorder")/ROW
RETURN $a
and WebDAV access
FOR $a IN document("http://localhost:8080/home/SCOTT/purchaseOrders/2002/Jun/JONES-20021009123336602PDT.xml")
RETURN {$a//Requestor}
but it doesn't do the trick.You may want to check out new preview technology from Oracle called XML Data synthesis (XDS) (http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/xds/index.html).
XDS is based on XQuery. In XDS you can define a external XQuery function declaratively. XDS supports various types of data sources like any type of database, Web service, Semi-structured Non-XML data like an Excel Spreadsheet which can be translated to XML, any XML document,Any EIS source using J2EE Connector Architecture and an XQuery itself as a source to another XQuery. -
Hi,
i want to add an XML Child Node to a XML-Column in dependency, when the upper element has a special attribute value. The XML-Document looks like this:
<root_element>
<node>
<subnode name="a"/>
<subnode name="b"/>
<subnode name="c"/>
</node>
</root_elemnt>
so i want to insert a child node for the subnode with the name c, so that it looks after completing like:
<root_element>
<node>
<subnode name="a"/>
<subnode name="b"/>
<subnode name="c">
<new_element/>
</subnode>
</node>
</root_elemnt>
I tried the following SQL-Statement, but it didn't work:
update table_a a SET a.DOCUMENT =
INSERTCHILDXML(a.DOCUMENT, '/root_element/node/subnode/@name=c, 'new_element', XMLTYPE('<new_element>blabla</new_element>'))
where ...;
The Statement is executeable, i don't get any XPATH-Expression-Errors....
I hope that you can help me.
HeikoINSERTCHILDXML(a.DOCUMENT, '/root_element/node/subnode/@name=c, 'new_element', XMLTYPE('<new_element>blabla</new_element>'))
Besides what you've posted is not syntactically correct, you've also got the parent XPath expression wrong.
You want a predicate, not an attribute step.
Here's the correct statement using insertChildXML :
update table_a a
set a.doc =
insertchildxml(
a.doc
, '/root_element/node/subnode[@name="c"]'
, 'new_element'
, xmlparse(document '<new_element>blabla</new_element>')
where id = 1 ;
However, Oracle XML DML functions such as insertChildXML are deprecated.
Use XQuery Update :
SQL> drop table table_a purge;
Table dropped
SQL> create table table_a (id int, doc xmltype);
Table created
SQL>
SQL> insert into table_a values (1, xmlparse(document
2 '<root_element>
3 <node>
4 <subnode name="a"/>
5 <subnode name="b"/>
6 <subnode name="c"/>
7 </node>
8 </root_element>'));
1 row inserted
SQL> commit;
Commit complete
SQL>
SQL> update table_a a
2 set a.doc =
3 xmlquery(
4 'copy $d := .
5 modify ( insert node $new into $d/root_element/node/subnode[@name="c"] )
6 return $d'
7 passing a.doc
8 , xmlparse(document '<new_element>blabla</new_element>') as "new"
9 returning content
10 )
11 where id = 1 ;
1 row updated
SQL>
SQL> select xmlserialize(document doc) from table_a where id = 1;
XMLSERIALIZE(DOCUMENTDOC)
<root_element>
<node>
<subnode name="a"/>
<subnode name="b"/>
<subnode name="c">
<new_element>blabla</new_element>
</subnode>
</node>

Need help, oracle xml db jar conflicts with sup app server v9
I am trying to create a web service on sun app v9 that will work with calls to oracle xml db on oracle 10gr2. I have successfully created a web service on other application servers (weblogic and websphere) but sun was the app server of choice. The oracle jar xmlparserv2.jar is causing problems with the sun server as it seems to have bundled some java classes from the javax.xml.parsers, javax\xml\transform (and even from dom, sax and streams sub folders) packages.
If I put the oracle jar in my war the error I get in the log file when accessing my webservice tester is:
[#|2007-08-13T08:37:48.691-0400|INFO|sun-appserver-pe9.0|javax.enterprise.system.stream.out|_ThreadID=15;_ThreadName=httpWorkerThread-8080-0;|error: http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd<Line 31, Column 3>: XML-20100: (Fatal Error) Expected '>'.

[#|2007-08-13T08:37:48.738-0400|INFO|sun-appserver-pe9.0|javax.enterprise.system.stream.out|_ThreadID=15;_ThreadName=httpWorkerThread-8080-0;|
error: Expected '>'.
line ? of http://ann-griffithlap.jsc-eses.com:8080/TestWS/TestWSService?WSDL#types?schema1|#]
And the UI error from the tester call is:
javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.RuntimeException: Service Class not generated as expected at com.sun.enterprise.webservice.monitoring.WebServiceTesterServlet.initializePort(WebServiceTesterServlet.java:546) at com.sun.enterprise.webservice.monitoring.WebServiceTesterServlet.doGet(WebServiceTesterServlet.java:158) at com.sun.enterprise.webservice.monitoring.WebServiceTesterServlet.invoke(WebServiceTesterServlet.java:104) at
I had attempted to move the xmlparserv2.jar elsewhere in the classpath for classloading and one error I got while trying different spots was:
[#|2007-07-16T14:16:57.982-0400|SEVERE|sun-appserver-pe9.0|javax.enterprise.system.tools.deployment|_ThreadID=10;_ThreadName=main;_RequestID=c9ffb261-2b6d-4dd2-bd8f-362e6b2af1a0;|INFO: JAXP SAXParser property not recognized: http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaLanguage|#]

which gets repeated for each deployment and then the server would not start up.
Is there any suggestions of where I can put the oracle jar to get sun to still start up as well as the jar to be available for use by the classes in my war that also contains the webservice that will call my underlying class? I have not found a way to eliminate the oracle jar if I want to do an xquery against oracle xml db.

Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation
Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation
NOTE: I think Oracle is a fantastic database and the XML implementation is lovely to use - also I know these are not limited to XE and also that some are fixed in 11g enterprise however I'm not sure if all are so I am posting here in the hope that Oracle will include fixes for all if any have been missed
1. getclobval() returns a spurious carriage return on end of the value returned
2. extract does not handle mixed content tags well (for example it simply discards tags that only have whitespace between them
3. XSL: using a xsl:number level="multiple" with anything beyond a simple count= xpath value crashes the database completely
4. XSL: insists on pretty printing output XML which is extremely odd behaviour and causes problems when dealing with mixed contentAnother weakness I've seen is with the appendchildxml function and mixed content xml - it appears to likewise pretty print XML causing the injection of carriage returns and whitespace into mixed content nodes

chandanalHi Chandanal,
I edited your code slightly and I was able to get the correct output.
I changed the following line:
for (int j=0; j >< len; j++)to:
for (int j=0; j < len; j++)I have included the complete source below:

Unable to load Oracle XML SQL utility
The following error appears for each java
class, when we attempt to load Oracle XML sql
utility into Oracle using the oraclexmlsqlload
script:
E.g.
Error while resolving class OracleXMLStore
ORA-00904: invalid column name
Does anyone know why we would receive this error?
Platform: Hp-UX 11.0
Oracle Version: 8.1.5.0
Background information:
The database was original created with the
compatible=8.0.5 set in the init.ora file, and
the creatation of java classes failed due to this,
so switched compatible to 8.1.0. Now after we
we adjusted the compatible setting and restarted
database, we started to receive the errors as
described above.
nullMurali,
Thank you, after I initialized Oracle's javavm
the errors disappeared.
The scripts were located under the javavm/install
directory.
Thanks again.

How to print Barcode data in Oracle XML Publisher Report
Hi,
We have an rdf report which prints Bar code in the starting page based on a custom procedure from MarkView. It works well with Oracle Reports.
But since the current report was a matrix report, we are changing it to a Linear report through Oracle XML Publisher Report.
We have all the things possible in the new Oracle XML Report.. But we are unable to print the Bar code data which is BLOB in the XML Report..
Can anyone help me on this? We have UAT dates around the corner..
We have an RTF Template .
Help asap.
Thanks
AbhilashHi Abhishek,
Bar code Registration Steps in XMLPublisher responsibility:
1. Go to responsibility XML Publisher Administrator
2. Open Administration
3. Open Font Files Tab

5. Give Font Name : XX_BARCODE
6. File : Browse Barcode file
7. Apply
8. Go to Font mapping Tab
9. Open Create Font Mapping Set
10. Give Mapping Name: XX_BARCODE
11. Give Mapping Code: XX_BARCODE
12. Type : FO TO PDF
13. Apply
14. Open Tab Create Font Maping
15. Font Family: Code39-Digits(This name should be exactly the font name comes in word)
16. Style: Normal
17. Weight: Normal
18. Target Font Type: Truetype
19. Continue
20. Font : XX_BARCODE
21. Apply
1. Go to Template Tab
2. Query for your template
3. Open Edit Configuration
4. Click on FO Processing
5. In Font Mapping set Give XX_BARCODE
RTF Template (word):
1.Design the RTF template
2.Insert the barcode against reqd field
3.Make sure to put an * before and after the barcode so that scanner understands the beginning and end
Please send your rtf ,xml file if you are still facing issues.

Why the oracle XML parser "parses" the DTD comments?
Hi all,
I always use the header
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>
to be able to use foreign characters in the XML documents.
The oracle xml parser handles this correctly.
My problem is, when I write comments inside the DTD, the
parser reports "Invalid UTF8 encoding".
Why the parser "parse" the comments? (protected by <!-- and -->)
How do I say that the DTD encoding is different from UTF, like
ISO-8859-1?
Example of a correct DTD and corresponding XML, reporting
problems, related to the 2nd comment in the DTD specification,
written with ISO-8859-1 characters.
The DTD:
<!-- valid.dtd -->
<!ELEMENT valid ( B, C ) >
<!-- valid represents the concept "Identificagco" -->
<!ELEMENT B (#PCDATA) >
<!ELEMENT C (#PCDATA) >
The XML:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>
<!DOCTYPE valid SYSTEM 'valid.dtd'>
<valid>
<B>How are you, Conceigco</B>
<C>I'm fine, thank you.</C>
</valid>
The parser output:
[jgr@frontera test-dtd]$ java oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxml -v
valid.xml
Error while parsing input sourcevalid.xml(Invalid UTF8 encoding.)
Thank you for any help.
Jorge Gustavo RochaI was wrong in saying that the attributes are not added to the element.My main aim is to add a array of elements to the root node.
Is there a efficient manner in adding the elements , rather than adding them individually with the help of appendChild method.
Thanks in advance.

The above exception is thrown if I access the JDPK provider URL after accessing our application.
