XREF in WebHelp TOC Output

I am using the Technical Communication Suite and I imported
FrameMaker books in to RoboHelp HTML. After I autocreated the TOC,
and then generated the primary layout, there are many cross
reference items appearing as topics in the Contents pane, for
example, XREF_74892_Announcements. Does anyone know why this
happens? And, how do I avoid this issue?
Thanks

The item "XREF_74892_Announcements' that you are viewing is
basically a bookmark created during FrameMaker book import.
While autocreating TOC, RH gives an option "Create TOC pages
for mid-topic links(bookmarks)" in the Autcreate TOC dialog. If you
do not want any bookmark to appear in the TOC and hence in the
contents pane, this particular option should be turned off. This
will prevent all bookmarks including the XREF_ one from appearing
in the TOC.

  • Merged Webhelp - TOC doesn't display

    Hello all,
I have generated a merged webhelp project as per the instructions at:
    http://www.wvanweelden.eu/blog/2013/02/28/adobe-robohelp-creating-merged-webhelp
The output help file is quite large. I can run it without issues on my PC. However, when I copy it to a server, it does load, the TOC pane appears empty until I click around a few times in the help. Is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks!

First off, make sure that the optimization in your layout is set to web
    site.
Now for some more info: Which version of RoboHelp are you using?
Last, make sure to look at
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/merging_webhelp/merged_help.htm,

  • WebHelp TOC Hierarchy Indentation is Incorrect

We are using RoboHelp 10 on a Windows 7 platform.
We publish directly out of FrameMaker to WebHelp via RoboHelp. However, this is not a FrameMaker issue, so I hope this is the right forum.
Note that we check the format (indentation) of the headings in our TOC in our FrameMaker source files, and the FrameMaker TOC is formatted correctly.
When we publish to WebHelp, the format of the nodes is fine for everything that is a heading 1 or 2 in FrameMaker.
However, the hierarchy messes up sometimes at random on headings 3 or 4.
Here are two examples, where the underscore represents the indentation.
How the hierarchy should appear in WebHelp (and how it actually appears in FrameMaker):
    Heading 1
    ___Heading 2
    ______Heading 3
    _________Heading 4
How the WebHelp TOC hierarchy actually appears at times:
Heading 1 [open book icon] (always ok)
___Heading 2 [open book icon] (always ok)
    ______Heading 3 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 3 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 3 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 4 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 4 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 4 [open book icon]
    _________Heading 3  [topic icon]
    ______Heading 4 [topic icon]
    ______Heading 4 [topic icon]
Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?
    Thank you!
    Tim

    A couple of other notes.
First, the hierarchy is scrambled in the exact same way when publishing WebHelp from different computers.
    Second, we read this article:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/03/demystifying_mapping_filesettingisf_and_toc_genera tion.html
And based on the discussion in that article, we tried/verififed the following:
Heading 1 = Arial 16 point, bold, no indent.
Heading 2 = Arial 14 point, bold, .25" indent. (We tried both a tab indent, as well as specifying the indentation inches in the "Left" field in the paragraph designer.)
    Heading 3 = Arial 12 point, bold, .50" indent.
Heading 4 = Arial 10 point, no bold, .75" indent.
We still have the problem I described in the original post.
The WebHelp TOC never scrambles H1 and H2, or H2 and H3.  However, it mixes up H3 and H4 in every chapter that has both.

  • Webhelp TOC: make tooltip/infotip = value of topic's meta name=description tag

When a user hovers over an entry in the webhelp TOC, I want to display the contents of the value of topic's meta tag:  <meta name=description content="short description text">
    Would this be possible?
    Pete

    Hi,
That is not possible. If you decide to give it try, you can modify the script in whthost.js but be advised that requires quite a bit of JavaScript expertise.

  • TOC/Search window not displayed in WebHelp Pro output

    Robohelp10, WebHelp Pro -
I've got what I have to think is pretty fundamental question: When I generate my WebHelp Pro project, everything works perfectly until I move the contents of the output folder to a network drive for viewing. When the default topic opens, rather than displaying the TOC/Search window on the left, I'm getting a link that says "Show". Click that link, and the TOC opens right up.
I would like to have the TOC displayed on that initial view, without requiring users to click the "Show" link.
Again, when I view the results of the output on my local drive, the TOC is displayed. The obvious problem is, the generated help needs to reside on a network drive to be accessed by our users...
PS: The project is on my local drive, only the contents of the output folder are being moved to the network drive. Also, everything other than the TOC display seems to be working fine.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Larry, Rick has solved your conditional build issue. However, do check to make sure you have all the updates installed for RoboHelp 10.
WebHelp issues in RoboHelp versions 10 and 11
I notice you are using IE. Does the Show link occur with Chrome or Firefox as well?
Meanwhile, I'm still suspect that you are not opening the correct "default" start page file to launch the WebHelp and that's why you're getting that "Show" link. This is "tell-tale" that you are opening the default topic file instead of the default Start Page. By chance have you somehow named your "default topic", index.html? If so, this is not correct.

  • WebHelp TOC doesn't refresh in output

    Hi All,
I'm using RH8 to generate WebHelp. The vast majority of the content is in a linked FM file. I have configured the TOC by opening the Table of Contents folder, double-clicking WebAppHelp (Default), and using the New TOC Book/Page buttons as needed.  The TOC shows in the RH pod as desired. There is only one type of TOC available in this project. This is not a merged RH project. I then click Save All, manually shift+delete all items in the output folder in Explorer, clear my browser cache, generate the WebHelp (Primary Layout), and click View Result. The TOC shows only the first book. Here's a shot with the browser window overlapping the RH window so that you can see the difference:
I have tried opening the project in Firefox and IE on my PC, and in Firefox and Safari on my MacBook, and I get the same result, so I don't think it's a browser or cache issue.
    What am I missing...?
Thanks in advance for your valuable time and insight!
    Rene

    Hi Rene
Keep the following in mind that this is everything I know about Framemaker.
    I can say Framemaker.
It is used for creating documents. BIG documents.
It's difficult to learn without help.
It can be used with RoboHelp.
    I DO, however, know RoboHelp.
About the time Framemaker was included with RoboHelp in the TCS, a new feature was added to RoboHelp. One that perhaps may come into play here. When constructing a Table of Contents, an option exists to insert something called a "Placeholder". I always understood it was for use with Framemaker somehow. But I'm unsure exactly how. And I'm wondering if this placeholder would maybe be the answer to your issue?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Change the topic icon in Webhelp TOC?

We are using RoboHelp 9 on a Windows 7 platform.
When we publish Webhelp, the topic icon in the published output has a question mark in it.
We have had almost universal feedback from our target audience that they are confused by the question mark (they thought it indicated an error occurred when we published the Webhelp).  Is there a way to specify a different topic icon for the TOC in the properties of RoboHelp somewhere, but retain the "Default" skin?
We have two alternatives that we would prefer not to use:
    1. Change the wht_toc3.gif file in the published output.  (We publish often, so we want to avoid a post-publishing clean-up task.)
    2. Go into the RoboHelp 9 application folder on the C drive where the GIF file resides and change it there.
We guess the folder is located here, although we found the file in a few different places:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 9\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_skin
An icon that would be an acceptable replacement would be whd_toc3.gif (it has three horizontal lines in it instead of a question mark).
Is there any way to make this change in RoboHelp project or Webhelp properties anywhere?
    Thanks in advance!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
If I understood you correctly, then here is the answer. You can go to Project Setup Pod> Skins and double click on the Default Skin, In the right hand side top corner click on Navigation, Underneath that Topic/Page> change the image of the Topic and press ok.
    Generate the webhelp.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Webhelp ducc output size

Tool: Robohelp 11, webhelp, using DUCC (dynamic user-centric content)
Question: DUCC generates its own output files for each Content Category you create. However, my use of DUCC is simple, only toc/indexes. Can output size be reduced?
Reason: 1) good to know. My use of DUCC may be more complex next time.  2) A software build process has many steps and players. While an added 50MB is small potatoes sizewise, it would be courteous to reduce time if not needed.
Possible method I can think of: Perhaps there's a dialog box option to redirect the DUCC tocs/indexes to the main topics instead of generating a separate set of files.
    Details
    My output sizes
    Non-DUCC webhelp output is 25MB
Adding 2 DUCC Content Categories totals 75MB
    My user's Help selections
Product Help (default, used by about half of the users, inclusive toc/index)
    Manager Help (unique toc/index)
    User Help (unique toc/index)
My use of DUCC is perhaps the simplest:
    Only toc/index differ
All have same conditional text and language
    Search finds all topics
    Thank you

Sorry but that's the way DUCC works. Each output is necessarily different. Your TOC may have Safety Steps for example and the categories could be different trades with different steps. It might be the same topic in the source but each output could be different because of build tags. To point one TOC topic to the same topic and dynamically apply the build tag would require actions that are just not possible in a browser.
In most cases use of DUCC is more complex and tags will provide different content and the search will find only relevant topics.

  • RH8 WebHelp TOC won't render in IE8 via HTTPS - Fix/workaround?

WebHelp projects generated with RH8 render perfectly via either HTTP or HTTPS calls to the server-hosted project in Firefox and Chrome.
The same projects render perfectly via HTTP calls in IE8.
But if the call to the project is via HTTPS, only the right pane content renders successfully. The left frame displays the Contents/Search tab in the project, but not the actual TOC content.
Does RH8 simply not support calling a WebHelp output through an HTTPS connection to IE8? Why does IE8 refuse to render the TOC through HTTPS, but it will render through HTTP just fine?
Does RH9 address this issue or is there a service pack for RH8 that addresses this issue.

we are also experiencing the same issue.  we even upgraded to RoboHelp 9 and it didn't fix the problem.
    Below are project settings:
    RoboHelp Html v9.0.1.232
    WebHelp project -> Generate
Content -> Language > English (US)
    Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)
    Map Files: None selected
Navigation Tab -> Skin = Traditional Style - no skin
Preferred Format = DHTML > Pure HTML
    Toolbar Buttons > TOC, Search
    Synchronize Table of Contents Automatically
    Results:
Left TOC Contents does not show up
    Left Search does not work
One other note:  It works on some XP ie8 machines and others it does not work.  FYI
    Please advise.

  • Merged Projects Not Appearing in WebHelp TOC

Following the instructions on the Grainge site, I created a
merged project with the following folder structure:'
    BAM\parent --->parent project location
    BAM\Child\Project1 --->child location
    BAM\Child\Project2 --->child location
    BAM\Child\Project3 --->child location
I added the metatag redirecting the first topic in the parent
project to the default topic in Project1.
    When I generated the output:
I got a nested set of navigation frames along with the error
msg from IE saying it blocked the content from running ActiveX.
The correct TOC books, one for each project, did display in
the outer navigation frame. However, once I clicked to allow the
content to run, the TOC would disappear. When I went to IE Tools,
Options and selected to allow ActiveX to run from My Computer, the
error message stopped appearing, but the TOC disappeared entirely.
I did get the extra set of nav frames to disappear by
clearing the nav option in Project1 when I generated it.
    Thanks for any tips.

Hello. I have been sailing along working on my merged
projects, but then I decided to change the name of one of
them--twice. The first time I changed the name it continued to work
fine. But this morning I changed the name again and now the child
project no longer appears in the merged TOC.
**This is the first merged project in the parent project's
TOC. However, it still doesn't appear even if I move it farther
    down in the list.
**The redirect from the parent project's default topic to the
child project's default topic works fine.
**The child project's TOC works fine when I generate it
    independently.
**I changed the Title of the project and the name of the
project. I regenerated the parent project to get the new folder
name and generated the child project into that new folder name.
Perhaps I did all of these things in the incorrect order? At first
I didn't change the folder name, but then later I did. And I
    deleted the old output folder...
**The new project is being pointed to in the parent project's
cshdat_robohelp.htm file (though interestingly there is no order to
the list of child projects in that location).

  • How do I add vertical space between items in a WebHelp TOC in RoboHelp 10?

I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 8 to RoboHelp 10. When generating my WebHelp output in RoboHelp 8, I added space between the items in the table of contents by editing the following line in the whthost.js file.
    var gsMargin="6pt";
After upgrading, I edited the same line in the whthost.js file for RoboHelp 10. Unfortunately when I generate my WebHelp output in RoboHelp 10, no space is added between the items in the table of contents.
Does anyone have any idea why editing this setting in the whthost.js file no longer produces the desired results? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    George

One way is to do something like this:
    1) create your styles like this:
    span {
        font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;
        letter-spacing: 3px;
    2) create your HTML like this:
    <p> <span>Xc = 10^6/2* pi *50 * C Xc = 10^4/pi C </span></p>
Now is this what you are looking for?  If not please post back so that something else can be suggested like Math HTML such as this one:
    <MATH>&int;_a_^b^{f(x)<over>1+x} dx</MATH>
FF and latest IE9/10 supports MAtH HTML as far as I know.
This is the picture of display in IE10:
    Good luck.

  • Webhelp TOC does not expand when I click on links

I have developed a Webhelp system, and it has this weird
problem which I don't know how to fix. Imagine the following
    scenario:
I have a topic called "page1.htm", and in that topic is a link
    to "page2.htm". [/li]
I also have a topic called "page3.htm" and in that topic is a
    link to "page4.htm"[/li]
If I click the link to "page2.htm", it will load "page2.htm"
properly, and expands the TOC and highlights the "page2.htm" item
    in the TOC.[/li]
If I click the link to "page4.htm", it will load "page4.htm"
properly, but the TOC does not change at all and "page4.htm" is not
    highlighted in the TOC.[/li]
It doesn't seem to matter if the TOC entry for "page2.htm" is a
    book or a topic[/li]
It doesn't seem to matter if there are two TOC entries for
"page2.htm" - Robohelp will just expand to the first one.[/li]
Can anyone please help me? Thanks!

    here is very rigid :-(
Do you have any books linked to specific topics? Nearly
every book in the TOC is linked to a topic. Some of them are
synchronised, and others aren't, but I can't figure out what the
    difference between the topics is.
In the second page of your WebHelp properties, under Single

"page2.htm" - Robohelp will just expand to the first one.[/li]").
That's the default behavior for Webhelp.
Thanks for your advice on handling multiple
calls in the TOC to the same topic - I have some deliberately
duplicated topic links so this will be useful. However, I don't
think this is the cause of problem. I built the TOC myself and
there are only 5 duplicated TOC entries, but the problem I am
having is occurring with non-duplicated TOC entries.
Thanks again for your time and help!

  • Webhelp TOC and Contents not displayed in Google Chrome

    Hello All,

  • Adding separator lines or spaces in WebHelp ToC

Is it possible - and not horribly complicated - to add separator lines or some empty spaces in WebHelp Table of Contents?
I would like to group the "books" and top level topics, separating them somehow, but adding empty items or simple HTML like <br> or <hr> in the .hhc file is not doing anything.
This is what the graphics designer is asking for:
I am running RH7 and using a somewhat adjusted version of the "Default" skin.

    Hi Willam
I'm guessing that what is meant is something like this:
I'm wondering why someone couldn't just insert a page that links to a specific and innocuous topic and configure the TOC with a string of dashes or whatever. In this case it would look like this:

  • Converting HLP to Webhelp - TOC has erroneous chm url

    Hello,
We're looking to move from old winhelp (.hlp) projects made with an old (circa 1998) version of Robohelp, to html-based webhelp made with RoboHelp 11. I was amazed to see that you could import a winhelp project by specifying an hpj file. The conversion seem to go ok, but most of the entries in the new table of contents looked like they were trying to go to some other chm file (which is weird since we didn't use chm files before and I wasn't converting to chm based help). The TOC links are labeled as "Remote URLs" instead of local html files. For some reason it looks like it's treating most of the topics on the TOC as external topics, which they are not. Has anyone seen this before and know an easy fix?
    Many thanks,
    -Keith
