Xsan Doesn't Mount One of the Volumes

Hi,
We have two volumes on Xsan. When we mount it, one of the volumes doesn't show up. But it did yesterday.
We have one MDC and one client. We have a raid storage through fiber. The problem started after we have restarted the storage which was not responding.
Everything is alright on the storage side. Both MDC and the client can detect the Xsan's Luns when I check it on disk utility, and on terminal "diskutil list" command.
On Xsan Admin, volumes, Luns, seems alright. I don't get any errors when mounting.
I can't see the volume in /Volumes.
I have tried full system shutdown and powerin up in a proper order several times.
I haven't renamed volumes.
I can see both volumes on cvadmin.
The same problem occurs on both MDC and the client.
I have tried replacing the_not_mounting_volume.cfg file from my backup files.
There is no fiber switch in the between.
There is only MDC and client machines on the network.
I have tried flushing dns also.
I see "vote call for FSS inhibited" logs for the volume in the log files.
Actually nothing has changed in the system. Even a single line of configuration.
I have been digging internet for the last 6 hours, but couldn't find anything helping.
Regards
C.

I can mount/unmount the volume manually using "xsanctl mount/unmount volume_name" command. For some reason, it doesn't mount it through the Xsan Admin GUI.
Does anyone have any idea about that?

You have a disc inside your optical drive.

    Remove the extra disc.

  • Can't mount one of the five partitions on an external hard drive

I have a G5 running 10.5.8 with two external hard drive. One of them (carrying the brand IOGear and identified on my System Profiler as being manufactured by Prolific Technology Inc) has been operating just fine for almost as long as I’ve had the computer (early 2005). It is partitioned into 5 volumes that have been serving faithfully as storage for my many files. About a month ago, I realized I did not see the desktop icon for the volume for one of the partitions along with the others showing on my desktop. I checked it out in my Time Machine files and it’s there along with everything else and getting backed up regularly along with the rest. At the time, I restored that information into a folder on my desktop. I can now access information from it, but I cannot save to it. When I try (from Word), I get a message saying that Word can’t save or create the file… the disk may be full or write-protected… and to try one or more of (a) freeing more memory, (b) making sure the disk is not full (that volume, like the others on the partitioned disk, is far less than 1/4 full), write-protected, or damaged. I have run DiskUtility a couple of times on it and it says that volume and the others on the drive are all just fine. However, it identifies that partition as not being mounted (the other four are mounted and working fine), and when I try to mount it through Disk Utility, it says it can’t and that I should try repairing it… As I said, when I check it to see if it needs repairing, it says it’s okay so it doesn’t repair. Also, I am unable to do a “Get info” on it from the Finder because I have nothing to click on to then get the “Info” on… hope that line makes sense. Finally, my question (probably obviously) is “How do I get this partition mounted so I can use it again????” Any help will be very, very, very appreciated. (P.S. I’ve tried all the ‘stuff’ like turning the drive off, letting it rest, turning it back on, etc.)

    >There is also a blue info icon in Disk Utility if you highlight that Partition.
Thanks for that info... I had overlooked it (forever, I guess... and that's many years)
I've now done the info on that Volume and on one of the others on the disk for comparison.
This is the one that's having the problem:

As you can see, there's a lot more info on the working one. Also, my guess (within my not huge knowledge of this stuff) is that the difference in the "Owners Enabled" line might be very significant. I also have no idea why the differences in the Journaled part, unless it's just that the problem one isn't mounted.
I really appreciate the attention you and Texas Mac Man are giving me here. Thank you very, very much!

  • Formatting failed: one of the volumes on the MEDIA is still in use?

Hope someone can tell me how to "disconnect" the volume so I can burn this DVD, as I have been pulling lots of hair trying to find this in the help menues, on the internet and every place else.

Possibly you have got your build happening in the
same place (ie folder) as some of the source
material? Make sure you build to a completely
    different folder.
although this was not the case, I had an instructional DVD in the drive- i am curriouse that you can not contain all the info to make a DVD in one folder? Does this mean you can not store it all in one folder or do you just have to have a "build" sub folder in the main folder? where you have your Pars, assests etc?
    much thanks,

I cannot burn from DSP4. I can burn the very same content with Toast just fine so it's not the build thats an issue. I see this question in the archives but so far no answers. Anyone?

  • My BT Home Hub Manager doesn't show one of the lap...

But the laptop is connected to the internet normally? I wanted to find out how many devices were connected to the internet and it seemed right so far until I noticed that my laptop didn't show up on the list, but is still connected to the hub just fine. Is there a way to make it show up?
    Hub: BT HomeHub 3
Laptop: HP NC6220 Windows XP Professional
    Laptop's connection type: Wireless

Try a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This can often sort out configuration problems.

  • How do I make the Volumes folder visible so it will back up using Time Machine?

    Hi
How do I unhide the Volumes folder for backing up using Time Machine?

OK I have to say this even though you probably realize it, having anything but mount points in the Volumes folder, especially regular files that are critical to you is really a bad bad idea.
You should do everything in your power to correct this asap.
In the meantime as to Time Machine, your profile says you are running 10.6.8 is that correct? TM has changed some since then.
Basically if you are not excluding system files from the backup the Volumes folder should be in the backup. If the regular files are in there is an other issue.
You can check by opening a Terminal window cd to your TM backup drive then into the .backup folder. Pick a backup and see if the Volumes folder is there and if the files are in it.
But again having anythgin in there is going to be a problem.
    good luck

  • HT1549 I can't mount on to a volume

I am in major need of help. I used to be able to mount on different volumes that were on my server from any account. I was having trouble with permissions on the volume and played around with them.I put no access to anyone but then changed it back to allow access but it continued to not allow access to the volume. When I looked on the server it said everyone had access to read and write in the volume, but when I looked on an account computer it said everyone had no access. I ran a verify report in Disk Utility on the volume and after that it wouldn't allow me to mount on to the volume.
In server admin I can see the volume under AFP Share Points but when I try to connect to it from an account computer by going Go-> Connect to Server ->my server->     the volume is not even an option.
Under Server Admin when I select the volume and go to Share Point and Protocol Options the Share this item using AFP is checked.
How can I get the volume to show up on my list of volumes to mount?

    it fixed itself.

  • Is there any way to turn off the volume rocker of the side of the iPad?

Is there any way to turn off the volume rocker of the side of the iPad?
Please help!!!!!! I forever have the square with the volume control on my screen because my volume rocker does not work.

You could try a reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad should restart.  If that doesn't get rid of the volume control box on your screen, it's time to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store, and they can send your iPad off for service.

  • When I try to print my book I receive the following error message:  One or more of the images in your book are not presently available at full resolution. Please reconnect to these files by mounting the volume(s) containing the original images.

When I try to print my book, I receive the following error message:  One or more of the images in your book are not presently available at full resolution. Please reconnect to these files by mounting the volume(s) containing the original images.  I don't understand what this means since all the photos are in the book.  Can someone please clarify?

When you look at the images in the browser, do you see any arrow icons on your thumbnails? Like these:
When you import your images from a folder on your system drive, you have two ways to import:
Managed: Import and store the images in the library
Or referenced: Leave the images in the folder outside the Aperture library.
This is controlled by the "Store Files" settings in the Import panel:
If you did not set "Store files" to "In the Aperture Library", the originals will stay in the folder outside.
The error message you get, suggests that Aperture assumes the original files are in a folder outside the library.
Select one of your images in the Browser and use the command "File > Show in Finder" - is this command available or dimmed out?

  • Option Click on the Volume menubar icon doesn't display ALL airplay devices, just the last one used

Option Click on the Volume menubar icon doesn't display ALL airplay devices, just the last one used. I've seen other peoples display all their devices. Why can't I?

I've discovered that those screenshots where you see more than one speaker listed in the menubar icon are actually bluetooth devices, not airplay. When you check the shot of the system preferences pane and see them all listed there too, the Type says Bluetooth. Not sure why bluetooth gets them all listed and apple's own airplay standard does not. Hope a developer writes a mac app to do it!

Not true. Select "Kind" as a sort category by right clicking the headings
Then click to sort by Kind
If your Import Settings are for Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC or whatever the majority of your files are, convert MP3s to that file type.
I've presently got 17,000+ files in my library, and they're ALL MP3 or M4B(Audiobooks). If they weren't when I got them, I converted them.  Saves a LOT of hassels with just this type of situation. Besides I have two non Apple MP3 players that WON'T work with other file types besides MP3 so, EVERYTHING I have has to be MP3.
