Xserve compatible KVM board like Raritan or alternatives?

Hi, is there a KVM over IP card like the Raritan eRich G4 that can handle booting from a remote image etc. that works with xserve?
The Raritan card is a PCI card but xserve only has PCIe slots, so this won't work.
What other options exists as I need to see a pre-boot screen to enter some passwords on our xserve box?

  • Compatible logic boards

I need to replace the logic board of my 17"" 1.5 Mghz Powerbook. First the sound went and then the whole computer. Could please any tell me which logic boards are compatible with my Powerbook? Is it only a logic board from exactly the same model?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your Mac was purchased under a year ago, I'd contact AppleCare to ask for a replacement. Also if your machine is older than a year, and you didn't purchase AppleCare, this is going to be a very costly proposition. Always buy AppleCare for laptops.
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
My guess is only the exact same model logic board is compatible. Many Mac models also use specific cooling gels, and have to get it installed a specific way. If you want to purchase out of AppleCare, you can try from a place like:
    http://www.dttservice.com/
    http://www.powerbookresq.com/
or possibly one I haven't seen anyone rate:

And then take the machine to a repair shop that repairs Macs.

  • Apple TV: Music Visualizer (Like iTunes) or Alternative Screen Saver?

Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to get a "Visualizer" for my Apple TV, like iTunes has that is basically a screen saver that wavers with the pitch and beat of the music. Similar to those on Windows Media Player, xBox 360, PS3, etc... Or is there at least a way to get/buy an alternative "Screen Saver" besides the floating pictures?
If not, that is a serious design flaw that someone should have thought about before release. I mean, come on, a unit that is designed to be hooked up to your TV and play music? You need to have something visual and floating pictures are not only boring but borderline annoying. I have to believe it is an easy fix with a software update; I mean, everyone else has managed to incorporate one into their products as I mentioned above and **** iTunes even has its own Visualizer, and in my humble opinion, rivals only windows media player in top quality. There has to be a way to at least stream it like AirTunes streams the music iTunes is playing to the Apple TV that plays it out the speakers it is hooked up to; with G protocol you could easily add a video stream that would stream the iTunes visualizer to the Apple TV and display it on the TV.
Anyway, just thoughts, if anyone cares, not really upset with the product, in fact, I love it so much I'm thinking of proposing to it soon (it has no idea). I just REALLY wish I could throw up a sick Visualizer on my Samsung 60" 240hz LED TV to go along with my music...SOS! Help!
    Thank you.

no - the "visualiser" is not an option on the appletv.
you only have the screensaver options.

  • XServe (2008) KVM issue

Hi all, I am having a very strange issue with my Xserve and I am completely stumped as to what it could be.
I recently purchased a Dell KVM and connected it up to all my servers and the only one that seems to be having issues is my XServe. No mouse or keyboard input is detected from the server and I cannot seem to kickstart it in anyway.
All the cables are using a PS/2 socket and of course because the server does not come with those plugs I have purchased a PS/2 to USB adaptor.
The weird thing is when I connected the adpator the first time I got the "Keyboard not recognised" screen up and was able to use the mouse still. Now a day or so after using it I cannot seem to control the mac server at all, I can still remote into it from my admin imac but that is all.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the issue may be, its a very strange one and I cant seem to get my head around it.
Oh and before I forget to mention as well, both the keyboard and mouse are actually detected by the mac server and they are currently noted as a generic keyboard/mouse in system profiler.

Hey Matt, we run a KVM that controls 12 Xserve's. Our KVM does the same thing the first time we plug it in. But after that log in and then set it to generic in keyboard settings. After that it should be ok.
But you are saying that after being able to use the mouse and keyboard that latter you still can not control it with the KVM?

  • Compatible Logic Board Replacement A1104

    I have inherited a dead AlBook 12", model A1104 (I believe it's a 1.5gHz) with a bad Logic Board.
I know that the Earlier 12" without the DVI port are not compatible.
Are there any OTHER incompatibility issues I need to know before searching for parts, or is ANY DVI logic board compatible?

    Wayne:
Thanks for posting back with an update. Funny thing, I checked PowerBook tech, but did not check the 1.33 GHz, which would have been the logical thing to check. Wow! That is good to know. There are quite a few 12" PB G4 1.5 Hz owners who have dysfunctional logic boards. This will be helpful for them to know.

  • Can a 17 inch MBPro be transported on board like its sib 15"?

this could be the decisive question i have re purchase of 15 or 17!
do lowepro or other camera bags hold the 17 inch and does this
pass muster with the airlines when i have to check in?
    or
is it too bulky to take on board?
im talking world wide travel many flights inside a camera bag
in lieu of my PISMO G3 15" accompanying my Nikon D cameras/lenses?
would love to hear from personal experience of travel photographers who take their 17 inch with them...

While it's not too bulky on its own it does however become part of everything else you're carrying. Realistically your camera gear alone would exceed many airline's cabin baggage weight retrictions. I know my Nikon kit does by a mile.
If you use the right bag, like a LowePro Stealth series, you should be ok. FWIW, a 17" MBP fit inside the executive bag I use for every day use if I take out the side padding so dimensionally it's fine.

  • Interfacing LabView compatible DAQ board w/ third party DAQ boards

    Dear NI-team and board-members,
In my current project I'm using a third party Direct Digital Controller which supports customizable Programmable Logic Control (PLC) via a graphical programming software. Therefore, I'm acquisitioning temperatures (etc.) from my miniature-HVAC application via physically attached and mounted sensors, connect them to a dedictaed analog input (0-10VDC typically) and in further assign the analog input to some selected PLC modules with the help of the graphical programming software, and finally after doing the computation (calculator block) or control (Proportional-Integral-Derivative block) I assign the resulting control signal to a dedicated analog output (typically 0-10VDC as well).
So far for the previous history, NOW I actually want to be able, to manipulate these analog values in a way, that I'm not interested in the physical acquisitioned value from my real-time operating equipment (e.g. temperature sensors), more than that, I'm interested in assigning a certain level (e.g. +5 VDC) to that dedicated analog input, which in turn would represent a temperature e.g. in this simple case (+5VDC) 50degF.
Now to the questions, can I possibly interface the physical ANALOG INPUT (0-10VDC) of my third party DDC unit, with the ANALOG OUTPUTS (0-10VDC) of a NI DAQ board? In that way, I'd be able and with some additional help of LabView to program time intervals, where I raise the voltage level every 5 minutes by 1VDC, and in turn can proceed with my intended purpose.
To sum that up, are there physical limitations (e.g. ground loops, damage equipment, shorting) connecting an analog output of one board, to the analog input of another board?
Also, which DAQ of NI might be best suited for my intended purpose, using a NI DAQ board for "simulating" temperature values (etc.) onto the analog inputs of another third party board.
    Thank you,
    Sandro

    Hi Sandro,
If both boards are in the same computer I wouldn't be too worried about ground loops or damaging equipment. The ground reference to the AO board will be the same ground reference as the computer and AI board. You would have to check with the specs for your third party AI board to see what overvoltage protection it has and whether or not our AO board could give a voltage high enough to damage it.
I would suggest one of our AO boards to do the job. Depending on what kind of control and precision you want, we have static update boards available in PCI form. The static board will be cheaper but you are limited to software timed voltage updates (instead of clocked buffered waveform output).
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=12550〈=US
I would suggest the AO board (PCI-67xx) instead of our M series multifunction boards because the AO boards have 8 or more output channels. The multifunction boards only have two output channels.

  • Xserve compatible with a Mac Pro with bootcamp?

I was looking at the option of installing windows XP on my Mac Pro for a windows exclusive app for rendering 3D graphics. I was going to purchase a couple Xserves and was hoping that the Mac Pro while under windows would recognize the Xserves as render nodes in the network. Does it auto detect the network or do I have to install windows on each Xserve for it to work?
    Mac Pro 3GHz/8GB RAM/Aja Kona 3   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Wacom 21UX Cintiq

You don't even mention the app. It's not likely that someone here can help answer a question about an unknown application running on a different operating system. However...
Whether the render app will use XServes as render nodes depends entirely on the app in question.
If the app is Windows-only, it's extremely unlikely that it would recognize a Mac (in any form) as being a valid render node. Therefore you're probably going to have to run Windows on every machine in the cluster. If the app is cross-platform you might have a chance, but then why would you need/want to install Windows on the MacPro if you could run the app in Mac OS X?
In any case, the particular software vendor would be the most logical place to ask.

  • Xorg-xserver-git doesn't like nvidia's libglx?

Tried upgrading xserver-xorg-git today, but couldn't get into lightdm on reboot.
TTYs were working, so I asked systemd what's up:
    systemctl status lighdm
Told me it failed, but not why. Is it possible to get systemctl to tell me why?
I tried running lightdm from the tty:
    lightdm --test-mode
    Crashed with an error:
    /lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so: undefined symbol: LoadExtension
xorg-xserver-git is up to version  1.15.99.901.204.g901fbfb-1
nvidia is up to version 334.21
For now, I've gone back to the arch repository xorg-xserver and don't seem to have any trouble (yet).

The latest features and performance enhancements, whatever they may be (even if regressions negate them). Not so much a matter of need as addiction.

  • BIZARRE NOISE SOUNDING LIKE A GAME OF GUESS WHO ON MY KEY BOARD

hello all, this is my first post so please help me.  i have just picked up my mac to move it and a bizarre rattleing noise came from it like soemthing was sliding down behind the key board, like that noise you would hear if you were playing a game of guess who.  i thought it might have been a kirby or magnetic something stuck to the bottem but after very close insoection there is nothing at all on the outside that could be amaking this noise.
i am very precious with my mac and have never dropped it.
any advice or tips would be greatly apprciated
    xxx

Yes it does.  Brighter is louder, dimmer is softer.
From other threads, I tried resetting the SMC by unplugging the power for a while.  This time, when I plugged the power back in, and turned on my iMac, the noise started immediately before the screen lit up.  Not sure what that means -- changing the brightness correlates with the noise volume does point to an LCD-related issue.
    Thank you!!

  • Xserve storage

    Hi and thanks for reading.
Can somebody please point me in the direction of a list of 'Xserve compatible storage'. I don't mean storage to fill the bays on board, I mean storage like the discontinued 'Xserve Raid' or the new Promise Raid.
I have searched to try and find this information for myself but every search just returns details of the Xserve Raid instead of alternative Rack mounted raid storage that is (intel) Xserve compatible. If there is a spec sheet somewhere that simply lists the compatibility requirements for a potential Raid device that would be ideal, failing that a list of compatible models would also be helpful.
    Thanks!

  • Need help buying a logic board!!!

    Hi,
So I posted a while back about my mac failing to boot up. Now I concluded it was the logic board that was faulty. I need help deciphering what the part numbers mean.
My logic board part number is 630-6694/T6690 and model 820-1592-A. This came with the dual 2.0 ghz PPC970fx 90nm model (June 2004). There are boards with the same model number as mine, but different part number prefixes (i.e. 661-xxxx instead of 630-xxxx), so what does this mean????
I would like to really get the latest motherboard that is still compatible with the processors, if that's possible? I have seen different dual socket boards like 820-1760-A, which I'm interested in since it is the Early 2005 model.
Can anyone here with technical knowledge shed some light on what these model numbers and part numbers mean?
    Thanks!

Hi, if it were me, I'd call one of these and see what'd work, I'm no expert but I hear G5s are really particular...

  • Simultaneous sampling with a PCI-MIO-16XE-10 board

    Hello,
I am using LabView with a PCI-MIO-16XE-10 board. I would like to make simultaneous sampling in multi channels. How can I do?
    Thank you for your help.

Your question should be posted under "Measurement Devices >> Multifunction I/O" instead of "Real-Time DAQ" because the PCI-MIO-16XE-10 board is not a real-time device. The category "Real-Time DAQ" is reserved for 7030 real-time devices.
The PCI-MIO-16XE-10 multiplexes channels across one amp and one A/D converter; therefore, it cannot perform true simultaneous sampling. Consider using the SC-2040 accessory, which has 8 simultaneously sampling differential amplifiers. Alternately, you can purchase a different board like the PCI-6110, which can perform true simultaneous sampling because it has individual A/D converters and amps for each channel.

  • Xserve going nuts - think its open directory?

    Hey all,
As of today, out of the blue, one of my xserves has been hanging like crazy. Web services have been 100% fine, although logging in (anything user related) hangs, and it comes and goes. When it's problematic, ssh times out, or takes up to 5 min to complete. Rebooting fixes it immidiately, but it comes back eventually.
In the sys logs, I've been seeing a ton of securityserver errors.
When I run top, I'm seeing a lot of slapconfig, sso_util, and some random mnthome's pop up, all three of which I never see on any of my machines. When I do a search, Open Directory is showing up accross the board, but we keep it on standalone and dont use it at all.
    This is a 10.4.11 machine.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    -Alex

I always just figured that the replica was a stand by and would take over if for some reason the master went down.
I was just reading the OD documentation earlier this week pertaining to replication and what leapt out at me was that the purpose of the replicas is to distribute authentication requests to the replicas thus removing the load from the master for those requests. The master is there as the backup - not as the primary authentication server. Then if one looks at replicas being the source for other replicas downline, one can set up a rather redundant authentication load chain if one of the servers goes down.
So, yes, clients should point to the replica(s).
