XServe proper housing cabinet

Planning on a new XServe purchase (when available 10/06). Need advice on a good server cabinet. We looked at the XRack Pro (by GizMac) which works as far as size (small and compact) but no fan. Should we look for cabinets with fans? any idea where to find such an animal without going to a 6-ft tall cabinet. All we need is an enclosure for a headless XServe which is 1.75 inches high....

Ghassan Abukurah-
The XServe will not need additional fans in the
enclosure unless the front and rear will be blocked.
It is designed to draw air in from the front and
exhaust out the rear. Can you please post a link to
your target product?
Another factor will be where you want to use it and
whether or not the noise it makes will be bothersome.
Theoretically the new XServes will be significantly
quieter than the current rendition.
Luck-

The cabinet we're looking at is (see link): http://www.xrackpro.com/XRackPro2-4U-Noise-Reduction-Enclosure-Cabinet-BLK-p/xr- nre2-4u-us-blk.htm

    Hello
did you assign a variant in the prinout/data medium tab?
you need to assing the proper house bank, account id and check lot in this variant.
If this is correct then you should get the check number assigned to the payment
    document #.
    Points will be appreciated

  • Anyone know if there is a video for installing additional ram in an early 80's intel Imac?

I bought some ram for my early 80s Imac. Looking for an install video to help me to put it in.

I did mean 2008. Thanks for the link.  Got a crucial 2 channel kit thinking I would add them to the original 1 gig in the computer but the videos show people taking out the original, making the 3 gig I wanted (so I can install Yosemite) only 2 gig  which I don't know if will work because some of it will be used up. I want to try to install but am afraid if I do and its not enough, they won't take it back.  Oh, in case anyone wondering .... I have no experience at doing stuff to computers at all ... none.  Its frustrating. I can build houses, cabinets, anything about and this Imac scares me to death, lol. And I bought Crucial memory because guy at Apple store said very good and cheaper.  Thank you

  • Account ID (HKTID) is not updating in MIRO after saving the Invoice

    Dear Gurus,
While creating invoice in MIRO I have filled the House bank and Account ID fields in the payment tab. After saving the invoice the House bank is getting updated but  the field Account ID is emptied so this account ID is not transmitted to the accounting documents.
Please share your ideas to get the Account ID.
    Thanks in Advance
    Krishna kumar. M

    Hi Mukthar,
    Thank you for your reply.
Both House bank and Account ID fields are there in BSEG table and MIRO screen as well. For example I can create manual invoice in F-43 with House bank and Account ID and both are updated in BSEG table. But in MIRO I have problem that document is posting only with House Bank not the Account ID.
In FBZP we have proper house bank configuration settings as well.
    Your input is highly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Deletion OF Purchase Requisition at TECO

    DEAR ALL,
    My requirement is very simple
I do not want to set Deletion flag on PR after it is becomes TECO when ever there is PO in the Work order
When ever there is no PO no problem
    This is MM business requirement
We had alot of discussion on this already in the topics
But I could not found the solution how we can res
Is anybody has done this particular change in work order TECO
please let me know how to do this ?
    Regards
    chandrashekhar Ingole

    Chandrasekhar,
This is standard functionality when you TECO the work order, all open requisitions that are tied through the reservation tables are set a deletion indicator. This makes sense since the PR is considered a internal document and there is no legal binding associated to this document and hence the necessary house keeping being done automatically.
You can overcome this by doing some custom development and having some  authorization cecks. You would need to set "never create requisition" for the order type/Plant combination (Prevent users from being able to change this setting through Auth or hiding the field and Function code). You would need to make sure that all the necessary details are captured on the Non stock item screen of the maintenance order. Then have a custom program,Triggerred on a nightly basis or on SAVE of Maintenance order or other means,  that creates a requisition based on the non stock item entered in the Order and assigning the same work order number as the cost assignment. Now when the order is set to TECO this PR will not be set a deletion indicator since there is no reservation tied to this request. This would solve your problem but be aware of the issues that may arise, if for some reasons the planner would like to cancel the work order by TECO of the job, then you would need to do proper house keeping and delete the PR line item or intimate the purchasing team as appropriate.
The other way to do this to make a modification to standard program which might be complicated and hence is not advisable to do so.

  • How to remove ALL Match music?

I've been having a hellish time with iTunes of late - 12.0.1.26
had an iTunes library (only linked to one computer) since the second gen iPod of 2002 and just built upon it over that time (iPods, iPhones, iPads etc)
Its always been Media Folder Organised, since available, and I'm far to anal about track names and artwork for my own good
When it grew beyond 500GB I shifted the entire ~/Music/iTunes folder, to a RAID1 NAS and all functioned well until regular Mac crashes made me think that something had got corrupted or damaged and so it was time to do some proper house keeping (and upgrade to a RAID5 - 4bay)
Lately its just been spinning wheel after spinning wheel....even after getting a shiny new iMac to run it from!
I'm leaving it 1-2days at a time before I give up and Force Quit as its clearly not going to recover.
I configured a vanilla build of iTunes on my internal 1TB SSD and rebuilt the entire ~/Music/iTunes folder.
I then linked all my iTunes media on a RAID5 NAS, and configured iTunes correctly to access it
(no alias fudge, all done through the iTunes Media Location prefs)
and when it was done my iTunes was finally calm and stable once more. HUZZAH!
    ~/Music/iTunes is now 1.35GB
    and
    /Volumes/Music/NAS iTunes is currently 368.74GB
    N.b. this is pre Match...
<I then made a copy of the iTunes folder!>
THEN turned Match back on and it went Spinning Beach Ball of Death on me!
As I couldn't find a simply way to reset Match or clear the music from it,
I found this method of creating a vanilla iTunes library,
updating Match from this blank library and then highlighting and deleting all the tracks from the cloud <999 at a time.
This proved successful with over 22,000 songs being removed but now I'm stuck with the last 4836!
I've tried from three Macs now and I simply cannot get these remaining cloud tracks removed.
It lets me highlight, it lets me press delete, but when I go back in and Update Match, it says 4836 again (and displays them all in iCloud)
Is there ANYWAY to blank a Match subscription? or get these tracks to delete?
I've unauthorised ALL devices with my account
I've unhidden all purchases in the iCloud
    I've got >152Mb of pipe
I've got the patience of a saint, who's probably sleeping it would seem!
and I've wasted more man hours than I care to remember
    TIA

...well after a few blocks of 100 downloaded songs, then DELETE Local & iCloud, it began decreasing again!
then I was able to simply highlight approx. 100 iCloud items at a time, without first downloading, and then Update iTunes Match each time.
I've managed to erase ALL my Match tunes on iCloud, leaving ZERO uploaded.
Made a backup of the blank iTunes Folder, I've been using to achieve this.
    Restored my cleaned ~/Music/iTunes
and now I'm re-Matching to see where this takes me...

  • Building a Case to purchase a Xserve in small in house creative service dep

Looking for some advise on getting upper management and IT to approve a server for a small creative department. Some background we have 4 work stations all Mac G5, they are not hooked to company network (Mac's are not supported by IT), Company is all PC's 5000 of them (we are the only macs). Right now we are using about 100 gig of space each year for our art files, we have no back up system, I put in a router to connect all the machines to one and thats acting as my so called server now. Any ideas?

There are various threads around that cover this and related topic here in the discussions. Dig around a little for some comments and opinions.
For something as relatively tiny as a 100 GB a year, a NAS device might serve you best. Many of us have dealt with tens and hundreds of terabytes... A petabyte doesn't require that much floorspace in recent years. And NAS devices are readily available with RAID capabilities and a TB of storage. Or more.
An Xserve can certainly do what you want (and a whole lot more, if you want), but a TB NAS RAID device can also serve files, and you won't be managing a server.
Managing Mac OS X Server is certainly easier than many comparable servers I've worked with over the years, but managing any server is rather more involved than managing client systems. Once set-up, managing Mac OS X Server does involve time and knowledge and on-going monitoring; it's not a "no IT" solution. And you'll want to plan for some time spent in set-up, whether you do that yourself or you call in help. Set-up is probably the most complex time.
Put another way, if you want an Xserve here, you better want to use more of its capabilities than a (Mac OS X friendly) NAS storage controller would provide.
An Xserve is probably a little too noisy for an office environment. You'll want an acoustical cabinet or data closet for the widget. In addition to the UPS mentioned earlier -- orderly shutdowns possible with a "smart" UPS can make for less on-going management work than the results of a hard power-fail at the wrong moment. Do also plan for RAID of some sort and plan an archival strategy of some sort (whether archiving to tape or to cloud storage or to remote NAS storage or otherwise), as you don't want to have your files vaporized due to an errant user-level command (no RAID protection against that) or against a disk failure.
You can load Mac OS X Server onto a garden-variety office Mac, and hang DAS disks off that Mac. The Mac Pro is often suggested here.
You'll want gigabit Ethernet (GbE), if you don't already have that wiring.
Here are some previous comments I've made on similar requests (including DAS and NAS storage): [messageID=6693908|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6693908], [threadID=1418688|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1418688].

Our Studio is holding onto a full rack cabinet, 2 XSERVE Raid 14x750GB Ultra ATA units, Exabyte Tape Back up system (with 750GB tapes) and Xserve all purchased directly from Apple and only used as our video backup system.  It's a bit dusty from being out of use, but in excellent condition.
Studio is in Chicago.  If you can come and get it, it's yours.
We also have some hot spare parts that came with the purchase.

I'd love to but need whoever wants it to come and pick up (Third Floor Studio ) The Rack, can of course be emptied, but those muther's are heavy    Not sure it would be worth you paying moving guys to deal with?

  • Proper drive modules for a G5 Xserve?

    Hi all,
We need up upgrade the drive modules in a G5 Xserve. I checked in the apple store, and the 750 GB SATA modules have this line:
"These Serial ATA Apple Drive Modules are qualified for use only with the new Intel-based Xserve. For Xserve RAID or older Xserve (G4 based) products, use the Apple Drive Module with Ultra ATA (parallel) support only. For Xserve G5 systems, use the previous generation Serial ATA drive modules."
The problem is, I don't see this "previous generation Serial ATA drive modules" anywhere. Similarly, the Ultra ATA drives have this line:
"These Ultra ATA drives are qualified for use with Xserve RAID only. For Xserve G5 or Intel-based products, use the Apple Drive Module with Serial ATA only. "
My question is, what drive modules should I be using?!
Also, does anyone think Apple will be coming out with 1 TB modules in the near future, and if so, what are the odds of compatibility with the G5 Xserves?

    Hey guys,
A heads up.. I've had 4 flavors of SATA ADM:
    1. 80GB SATA Hitachi (xserve g5 gen)
    2. 80GB SATA Seagate (intel gen)
    3. 250GB SATA (xserve g5 gen)
    4. 750GB SATA (intel g5 gen)
Needless to say, all 4 work in either the xserve g5 or intel, and either can boot as long as the partioning is setup appropriately (guid or apple). With that said, there actually is a GB size difference between the 2 80GB models, which does make life complicated if you have an only xserve g5 and want to get a new 80GB to make a raid 1 (either the solution is to look for an older model on ebay or to wipe both drives).

  • Proper procedure for replacing drive in Xserve RAID RAID5 set

I've got a five-drive RAID-5 set (with a sixth hot spare) in an Xserve RAID running the 1.5/1.50f firmware. One of the drives in the RAID-5 set has an amber/orange status light on and has been getting occasional errors like to following:
    Timestamp: 11/10/10 10:34:53 AM
    Priority: Warning
    Controller: Upper Controller
    Type: 112
    Event ID: 1000
    Event: Disk 5 Reported An Error. COMMAND:0x35 ERROR:0x10 STATUS:0x51 LBA:0x19B80
Description: The drive reported an ATA error. This is a failure in the communication from the RAID Controller to the drive.
I have double checked the drives in RAID Admin and, as the drive is only in a warning state, the hot spare has not been pulled into the RAID set yet. As this is an old drive, I'd like to replace that particular drive first. I have a current, full backup of the data, but want to make sure I understand the process correctly.
I understand the "Installing or Replacing an Apple Drive Module" section of http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/XserveRAID_UserGuide.PDF, but it and RAID Admin's built-in help don't describe what will happen when replacing a drive in a RAID set that has a hot spare. When I pull out the drive and replace it, will it correctly use the newly inserted drive or will it use the hot spare? If it uses the hot spare, will the hot spare revert back to a hot spare once the new drive is inserted or will it permanently become a member of the RAID set and need to be moved to the original drive's slot? Or, should I just pull out the hot spare, pull out the failing drive, and pop the hot spare into the failing drive's slot?

Hello, makkintosshu, and welcome to the AppleBoards,
If you pull out the drive the RAID should/will immediately start rebuilding using the hot spare. The hot spare will become a new permanent member of the RAID and the new replacement drive will become the new hot spare. The physical slot locations of the drives don't matter you can build a RAID from any combination of drives as long as they are on the same side.
If you pull the hot spare and then the failing drive the RAID will wait for a new drive before taking action. I find it hard to recommend this course of action unless there is a really good reason for you not wanting the hot spare to become part of the RAID. Rebuilding is going to take a good long while and you want it to start as soon as possible - as long as the RAID is not rebuilt your data is at risk. Letting the RAID rebuild hang as you physically swap out the failed the drive strikes me as bad idea that needs a really good justification.

  • XServe at home??

    Good Afternoon,
I wonder if somebody can help me on this topic as I need some advice before we possibly go and fork out a rather large amount of money on a XServe and relevant products.
Currently at home we have 7 macs, 3 printers and various network devices and currently they are all being used by separate users in the house, the printers are connected via the network, one ethernet and 2 by a airport expresses.
We are thinking of purchasing a XServe for home storage, printer server, and EMail server as we don't currently have a decent central computer.
Each user has their own computer, and would like it to stay like that, but we would like to be able to use the Xserve for file sharing, and to back up to so that we have relevant backups in case of failure. Can we use a XServe without having to make all the file storage central?
Next reason we would like to use a Xserve is network management, currently I run ARD on one computer to link to each, but as you all know I cant run schedule tasks without the computer being on, can I do this with Xserve?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Rob

The Xserve box and Mac OS X Server do not care if the configuration is physically installed in a home or an office or a computer room, so long as the environment meets certain basic requirements.
This particular configuration does work; I am familiar with several small businesses with Xserve boxes with similar back room and back office configurations.
Biggest issues here tend to be the need to keep the server continuously powered and cooled, and the noise from the box. Best to have an acoustical cabinet or dedicated space (big closet or dedicated room) with sufficient cooling and access, and enough rack space for the inevitable adjunct gear. And usually a UPS, because yanking the power on a server can lead to badness.
One other caveat can be network bandwidth. 2.4 GHz WiFi or 100 Mb Ethernet might not be enough bandwidth if you're lobbing quantities of storage I/O traffic around. Consider 5 GHz dual-slot WiFi and/or Gigabit Ethernet here.
Xserve and Mac OS X Server is overkill for "just" shared storage; it's far more capable than your current plans seem to require. Time Capsule or a NAS RAID box might be a cheaper choice if the goal is "just" archival storage.
As for what you can do with Xserve, yes, you can run scheduled jobs using cron or launchd or Xgrid or such. But the Xserve does need to be booted to service these jobs and to service requests from random clients on your LAN or WLAN; servers are traditionally continuously available. If the scheduling-related activity is for archival processing for the clients, that's certainly feasible using various approaches, though I'd look very seriously at Time Machine for that requirement. This assumes the target box is booted, or has a NIC and a console that supports Wake on LAN; various Mac boxes can wake from sleep on receipt of a WoL packet.
I'd encourage reviewing the manuals for Mac OS X Server here. Configuring and running a server is more involved and more complex than running a client box. As easy as Mac OS X Server is, it's still substantially more complex to configure it than is Mac OS X client, and a server assumes knowledge of IP networking and routing and DNS and (as required) other services. And a corollary: if you're planning on remote access into this server, you'll also need a business-class network service. Servers expect static (private or public) IP addresses, and do not do well with DHCP-issued dynamic IP addresses.

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • ONLY house in my street that is lumbered with path...

    Hello all,
I've just joined right now in a wave of fury/desperation. For years I've put up with having a pretty appalling service of 512kb/s, firm in the belief that it was because my entire street was confounded to this terrible, terrible speed (almost as if a punishment from BT?). A few weeks ago, I was at my friend's house helping him sort out his Xbox Live. Out of curiosity, I ran a speed test from a reliable source, and was pretty amazed to see how he could get 2mb/s.
Excitedly, I checked the BT website to see if years of prevailing had paid off, and they had finally updated my area's horrible broadband.
To my disgust, I was still shackled with the burden of having 512kb/s. I put in a few more houses' details, all to find that they could get speeds of at least 1mb faster.
After a few days of ringing up different BT departments based all over Asia (not very helpful) and the UK (less helpful), each one just fobbing me off with another number, I gave up.
Can anyone out there give me a real, fair, justifiable reason as to why my house, JUST MY HOUSE IN AN ENTIRE STREET, is plagued with this misfortune? Was it something I said to BT? Have I done something to offend them? It's common knowledge that your speed (and other factors) mainly depends upon your distance from the nearest exchange. So how can houses on my back door get a MB faster broadband than mine?
I thought maybe one of you lot might be able to give me more advice than countless of morons I've spoken on the phone with. (Harsh, but unfortunately true).
Rant over, sorry for being angry, I'm just getting so fed up with this. I'm an avid internet user and it just makes me so irate. It seems BT only seem to be interested in getting new customers, and just disregard their old ones (that have been loyal for yeaaaaaaars in the hope that the scheduled date that the area would be getting upgraded [initially April 2009] would pull through).
A fellow BT customer who works in networking (who also just happens to be on 2MB/s) advised me to try taking my problem to this forum.
Pretty terrible service from BT. I think it's very sad that I'm resorting to getting better advice from fellow customers, rather than their ''trained technical experts''.
Peace, and sorry for sounding like a miserable **bleep**.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi RogerB, thanks for your reply.
Sorry if it seemed like I was moaning, but, anyway.
The point I'm trying to get across is, is that although I understand that how many users are using the same ISP in your local area affects the speed you get, the fastest broadband service that BT can provide me with is 512kb/s.
For example, if I go onto the BT website and register interest in getting broadband, they say the fastest speed I can get is 0.5mb/s. Whilst a house next door can get a speed of 1.5mb/s.
I understand that you rarely ever receive the speed you pay for, but what I don't understand is why it's just my house on my street that can only get 512kb/s. I live in a semi detached, and the house joined to me can only get this speed as well. This makes me believe that it's something to do with my house's wiring, or something like that.
Now, is there a number at BT I can ring to see if I can get an engineer to come out and maybe upgrade my lines? I have no idea if that's feasable, or if it works like that, but in a few years (decades?) time when BT decides to upgrade my local area's speeds, I don't want to be still stuck with 512kb/s whilst everyone else has something like 20mb.
Do you see what I mean?
You mentioned ''proper sockets'' the sockets in my house are fairly old, so is there some way I can get BT to upgrade them so, in turn, my house will be brought up to speed with the rest of my immediate area? It just seems like my house has just been completely forgotten, and there's nothing I can do...
As for speed tests, I usually get a result of around 480kb/s downstream.

  • What is the proper way to extend 2nd generation time capsule network to 2nd generation Airport Express?

I have a Simultaneous Dual Band Time Capsule. Up until now, I have been extending the network with the Airport Express (2nd Gen, the 802.11n model). Since it was not simultaneous dual band, it was extending over the 2.4 GHz band so as it could extend b, g, and n and support my iPhone at 2.4 n as well as my iPad and MacBook Pro at 5 GHz.
I just bought the new simultaneous dual band unit, which theoreticalkly should be able to extend both bands.
Now, it is not that simple. I also run a guest network, which I assume also gets extended when WDS is on. I also still have the old Express which I have relegated to another part of the house.
When I set up the new Express, it asked me which one of the networks I want to join, either <SSID> or <SSID 5GHz>, the automatically generated name for the the 5 GHz band on the Time Capsule. Which one do I join? How do I know that both are extended? When I connect to the <SSID 5GHz> now my iPhone can see that one and connect to it, so I am assuming it is NOT going at 5 GHz.
And I have no idea at all what the guest network is doing....
Does anyone have any insight into tthe proper way to configure all the units, and what I can expect? My network is as follows:
                                                                                             Airport Express (Simultaneous Dual Band)
Cable Modem > Time Capsule (Simultaneous Dual Band) >
                                                                                             Airport Express (802.11n, last gen)
I want to run guest network (hopefully simultaneous dual band) and personal network. I want the new express to run both bands just like the Time Capsule, and for the old express I want to know which of the two bands I am extending.
    Thank You!

I also run a guest network, which I assume also gets extended when WDS is on
Unfortunately, the Guest Network cannot be extended.
When I set up the new Express, it asked me which one of the networks I want to join, either <SSID> or <SSID 5GHz>, the automatically generated name for the the 5 GHz band on the Time Capsule.
This likely indicates that the Time Capsule has been setup to use separate names for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, instead of the default, which uses the same wireless network name for both bands.
In order for the AirPort Express to be able to extend both bands, the Time Capsule will need to be configured so that both bands use the same wireless network name.
Then, configure the AirPort Express to extend the wireless network name of the Time Capsule, and it will extend both bands.  At least, that is the way an AirPort Extreme works, and I assume that the Express is the same. I don't have an Express here to test, but will in another day or two.
The location of the Express is important, since the 5 GHz signals are not as strong as 2.4 GHz signals. You may need to experiment by placing the Express closer to the Time Capsule than normal.  With an AirPort Extreme, I find that the Extreme must be located no more than about half the distance from the main router to the area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you continue to use the previous model Express to extend as well, it too must be configured to extend the wireless network name of the Time Capsule. Configured this way, the Express will extend the stronger of the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz signals, so it will likely extend the 2.4 GHz band unless it is located close to the Time Capsule.
To find out which band the previous model Express is extending, locate a Mac laptop close to the Express and hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the AirPort icon at the top of the screen. The info displayed will indicate whether you (and the Express) are connecting using 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
