Xserver Cluster running Parallels with Win2003 Guest OS

does anyone have any experiance with this ? I dont believe that Parallels is cluster aware, however I am not completely sure of the actual operation of the OSX cluster environment. if the cluster is truely Grid Engine from sun , then I have my answer, however if the OS runs as one monolythic server rather than MPP channels, then what I am planning will work. any insite on this would be tremendously helpful.
you might ask why I would want to do such a thing. lets just say it's a love hate relationship with Bill, or we could call it the Peace Button on a Marine's Flack Jacket, .. "I guess I'm just trying to make a statement about the duality of man"
Or maybe I am just trying to create a flawless Windows Environment...{hehe}

Your "stream of consciousness" writing is rather hard to understand.
To answer your question... no Parallels is not cluster aware. It actually can only really pass one CPU core through right now.
VMWare Fusion beta does support Windows 2003 Server and multiple CPUs, but it's in beta. But you'd get 4 CPUs at least.

  • Running parallels with windows xp. want to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2013, but it will not recognize the disc.  Help!

running parallels with windows xp and OS X Lion.  Trying to upgrade my Quickbooks on the windows side to the new 2013 version.  The windows side does not even recognize the disc.  What am I doing wrong?

S that QB edition is only for windows 8. It won't run on any earlier version of windows.
Looking at the QB 2013 system requirement it runs on XP.
    http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF21187
So the version of windows is not your problem. Your problem is the virtual machine is not se to use the mac dvd drive. Have you looking into the machine settings. Not windows settings, the virtual machine settings. Make sure it is set to connect the mac dvd drive to the virtual machine.
A good place to start would be the parallels help system. Not the windows help system.

  • How do I run parallels in the guest account

I recently updated my Mac Mini.  On the old one I was running Parallels, and had the guest account set up to be able to run parallels just fine.  I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything to the new Mac.  Unfortunately, now my guest account can no longer run Parallels.  When I try to run Parallels, a popup window comes on the screen saying "You don't have permission to use the application 'launcher.'"  Even if I click "Always Allow", the next time I try to run it I get the same popup window warning.  I tried following Parallels webpage advice in how to share a virtual machine with multiple users from their website: http://kb.parallels.com/en/9303, but that doesn't help whatsoever.  So now I'm stuck.  What am I doing wrong?  I obviously had this working another time.  I'm thinking that the problem seems to lie on the Mac side, rather than the Parallels side.  Please help!

I have not encountered this specific problem, but I suspect the cure is to reinstall Parallels desktop. Parallels installs some functions deep in the OS and they are unlikely to be transferred using MIgration Assistant which intentionally seeks to protect the operating systemon the target Mac.

  • Acceleration API in Parallels with SLS guest (and Rosetta support)

    Hi,
after reading a lot about Rosetta's support to get it to work on my brand new MacBook Pro, I bought Parallels 8 in a Bundle and a copy of Snow Leopard Server from Apple to install on it and finally get Rosetta working. Great !
    But...
A lot of my PPC apps won't work. Paralles support explains : "There's no hardware acceleration for OS X guests. Apple doesn't open their API so Parallels can write the drivers.". OK, sorry not to have known that before ! I understand Apple wants to protect their soft.
I also read that Apple sells different versions of Parallels.Maybe so there is a version that does support acceleration API?
    Thanks for your help

Apple doesn't focus on keeping old software and old hardware going and never really has, so the usual recommended course is to migrate off of the PPC software and to more recent and native applications.
As an option, keep an older Mac around and screen-share with it pending retirement of the PPC software.
Whether the PPC software failures are due to bugs in the virtual machine (fairly unlikely, but possible) or due to latent timing or other bugs in the application code, or due to bugs in the Rosetta image translation itself, would require research into the apps and the failures.
As for the question, I see no reason to doubt what the Parallels support folks have stated; that there's no documented API for the hardware accelleration — though whichever particular hardware support for accelleration isn't clear.   Hardware accelleration for VM guests is usually a reference to the Intel chips and the associated VM assists present in recent versions of those chips, but the references to drivers implies this might possibly be a reference to graphics drivers or otherwise.
I'd expect Parallels would know about other versions of Parallels, so I'm not sure where that's headed.  I'd expect the same limitations would also effect VMware, if they're also following the documented APIs, but it might still be worth a try, to see of the translated PPC applications work there; if this is a Parallels bug, or something else.
Using undocumented APIs means the applications can break at random OS X patches and upgrades, too, and that's something most large-volume vendors want to deal with, too.
Coding applications directly to the drivers or bypassing the operating system entirely and going directly to the hardware is how Microsoft and their third-party providers got into their current mess with compatibility with Windows software for older versions of Windows, FWIW.  Various vendors bypassed the Windows software stacks, an approach which has led to legions of compatibility and security issues for Windows users over the years.
If anything, OS X is headed the other direction here entirely with sandboxing and gatekeeper and trying to keep applications to specific and documented APIs, too.
    FWIW...

  • I operate MacBook Pro w latest version of OS Maverick.  Also run Parallels with VM of XP.  Bought Win 8.1 Pro w DVD.  The DVD does't mount and eventually says the DVD is blank.

How do I get MacBook to recognize the DVD and permit Parallels to create a new Virtual Machine using the W 8.1 Pro DVD?

Question for Parallels documentation, forum, their own FAQ and Knowledge Base.
Even Windows on Mac support for Boot Camp has instructions, Boot Camp Assistant will create a flash drive (no one is using DVDs).

This forum does not deal with MacBook Pro, but with Mac Pro (tower)

  • Running Parallels with Bootcamp

Hey guys. I was really wondering whether i should buy Parallels or just use Bootcamp. I was going to play some games on my new MacBook Air so i just thought of Bootcamp, but somebody told me that you could install Parallels and Bootcamp. I could experience both worlds! Cool!
Anyways, here are my questions. I hope you can answer them!
    1. If i read correctly, i heard that you can use Parallels based on your bootcamp partition. Am i correct?
    2. Does that mean i only have to install Windows once? And i can only have one part of my hard drive used for Windows, instead of 2 if i use Parallels and Windows separatly?
    3. So basically, whenever i use Parallels based on my bootcamp parition, am i using Windows basically on bootcamp at the same time? (please tell me if you want to understand what i'm saying, i might not be clear here)
    4. So when i use Parallels do i have all the stuff that i will have on my Bootcamp parition? Like all my files and games and whatnot?
    Thanks!

    1. yes
    2. yes
    3. yes
    4. yes
Read the instructions for doing this on the Parallels or Fusion site. Both explain how to do this.

  • Is it better to run parallels alone or bootcamp?

I had an older MBP and at first i was running bootcamp alone with my autodesk inventor software. Then i happened to buy and install parallels and everything ran perfect!
Within the last week I upgraded to a new MBP with a faster processor and twice the ram. This time I did not run boot camp, just installed parallels alone... Now my inventor software is lagging and seems much slower to respond to commands. If i partition my drive with bootcamp and run parallels with it will it speed things back up? I am new to the parallels software so I'm not sure what would be the best choice. I just know I love using parallels, makes my life much easier when things run up to speed..

New computer means your Windows OS needs to be prepped or a new install - new hardware = new activation license.
Using a partition gives you option to dual boot. Also you are not using a VM image file which is limiting.
Most people want to run 3D and processor/graphic intense software natively rather than in a VM but if Parallels suits you, fine.
Were you using Parallels 10 and 10.10 before? I think you should upgrade to the new version as the older versions of Parallels are not optimized for Yosemite which also plays a big role and another reason it is sluggish.
I believe in clean install - any OS, whether Mac or Windows, the end result is a more stable, faster, performs better with fewest possible bugs or glitches.
When you used Boot Camp you also had to install Boot Camp Apple drivers for 'that' Mac which might still be there, but missing the drivers for your newer rMBP too.

  • Parallels with XP on a mac OSX server

Can I install and run Parallels with XP pro on a macPro running OS X server without issues? Is this a no-no, or is it being done?? Just wanted to ask before condidering the purchase. Any feedback?

There are services out on the internet that offer cross-platform checking of websites.

  • Very Strange Network Issue With Two Guests on 2012 R2 Hyper-V Failover Cluster

Hi all.  We're having a odd issue with two guests on our 2012 R2 failover cluster.
In a nutshell, if we shutdown a particular server (I'll call it Server A) another totally different server (Server B) on the same node loses it's network connectivity to the domain. If we start server A back up, network connectivity returns on server B.
At first I thought server A might be running a service that was somehow linked to server B, so I decided to disable server A's NIC.  Interestingly, that had no affect on server B's connectivity.
The next step I tried was pausing server A and again, no adverse affect on server B's connectivity.
Next step was to live migrate server A to another node.  This action did
cause server B to lose its network connection.
One other clue is that if I ping server B from either of the Hyper-V hosts in the cluster, I never lose network connection to server B.
So I would suspect this is some network issue on the cluster, but I'm kind of at a loss where to go from here.
Has anyone seen this behavior before or does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions I can try?
    Thanks!
    George Moore

    Hi Sir,
I'v never seen this before .
    >>Next step was to live migrate server A to another node.  This action did
cause server B to lose its network connection.
They are connecting to same virtual switch ?
First please run cluster validation to check if there is any error .
If it is ok , please try the following items for troubleshooting :
    1. shutdown  serverA   serverB
    2. then add another virtual NIC for serverB
    3. start server B  check if the issue happens to both "old" and "new" virtual NIC .
In addition , you can live migrate both A and B to another node , then try to live migrate A to the original node .
If the issue persists , I would suggest you to remove that virtual switch on both nodes then re-create them .
    Best Regards,
    Elton Ji

  • Error while reporting in parallel with ETL run!!!

    Hi All,
It has been observed that when report is run in parallel with ETL, Report fails with following error:
    Error during SQL execution: (DA0003)
Exception: DBD, ORA-12842: Cursor invalidated during parallel execution State: N/A
Please let know if we can run report in parallel with ETL.

    Hi,
thats correct. You should first load your DWH via ETL and then report off it.

  • Parallels question. Does it share running software with Mac X.

I never used parallel before, my question is does it share software running in windows xp/parallel with mac os.
For example, When if I disable Mac Airport, and run & turn on internet in parallel windows. When I switch to back mac, will it be connect to internet, even airport is off?

Airport is not software, and if you turned this off in one application, it would affect everything else.
The following link will allow you to post questions directly to the manufacturer http://www.parallels.com/en/support/

  • How do I run one vi that has a continuous loop in parallel with other vis

I am currently attempting to run one vi that has a continuous
loop in parallel with other vi’s.  When I
run the program it hangs up in the continuous loop vi and does not execute any
other steps in the program.  The loop vi
is for temperature checking, control and recording once it reaches a certain temperature
gradient.  The other vi’s are for other functions
like pressure readings and flow rates, for example.
Where am I going wrong and what can I do to fix this
problem.  Thank you for your time and
    help.

Here is a zip file with the vi in question.  The
spraycooling6 and the TempStep5 both run fine alone but when I add the TempStep
to the Spraycooling6 it only runs the TempStep and hangs up the program.
I'm new to LabView and know that the code is probably not optimized for some
functions.  In addition, this is still a work in progress for me so this is
not the final vi.  Again, thank you for you time and input I
    appreciate it.

  • Trouble with imaq sequence running in parallel with other vi's

I am trying to collect a series of images (30 frames at 30 fps) using the IMAQ Sequence high level vi in parallel with other vi's toggling bits on a DIO port. I notice that the imaq sequence vi seems to starve out the other parallel loops. Any thoughts for parallel image acquisition?

    Hi,
Does the DIO loop take 100% processor time to execute? (Check with task
manager.) If so, the IMAQ loop isn't getting enough processor time. You
should put a few ms wait in the DIO loop.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Antivirus Software On a Mac running Parallels 9 with Windows 7

I converted to a Macbook Air last fall and have found that the general online consensus is that it is not necessary to run an anitvirus software.  However, I run Parallels 9 on my Mac, so that I can run a virtual Windows 7 environment (needed this for work).  My question is should I run an AV software in my windows platform?  I've searched the support for both Parallels and Windows and haven't found answers.
Thanks in advance for any advice that can be offered.

Windows is still Windows, even when running on a Mac.
Viruses that are downloaded into the Windows part *almost never* cross into MAc (never say *never*), but viruses can corrupt the windows install to to pooint it is unusable.  Always use both common sense and antivirus for Windows in the windows install.
