XSKey Prefpane

Hi Logic users,
I upgraded from a PowerPC to a new Intel Mac and used the Migration Assistant. Everything works fine, but I can't open the XSKey Preference Pane in System Preferences anymore. Logic works fine and finds the XSKey. I believe the prefpane does not work, because it's PPC. It tells me something like "You can't use this Preference Pane on this system". I already had the latest Logic version (7.2.3) before the migration. How or where can I get the intel version of the prefpane?
Thanks
Björn

if the the xskey did not work logic would not run....
You actually have no use for that pane anymore... Since Apple took over Logic Logic Pro has been one bundle with everything included.. In the old days you could see in the pref pane what you had auth. and what not...
Dont sweat it:-)

  • No 1080p for HDTV in PrefPane

    Hi,
I try to setup my HDTV (Samsung LE-40M86BDX) on my MacMini and I can't set the native resolution to 1920x1080 progressive.
The TV is connected trough an DVI to HDMI cable on a specific HDMI/DVI port on the TV. The LE-40M is a FullHD 1080p which supports 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p on this port.
In PrefPane on MacMini Intel and my Powerbook G4 10.4.10, the TV is seen as a Samsung TV with some resolution as 1280x720p. But the maximal resolution I can choose is 1920x1080 interleaved... It's not possible to choose 1920x1080p which doesn't appear.
Using DisplayConfigX, I can set a 1080p resolution which works... but the program is awful to use, and after choosing this resolution the cursor vanish on the screen (in fact the cursor becam a lot of small point as signal noise).
If I use other operating system as Windows I have no problem using 1080p through the DVI to HDMI cable...
1080i look bad on FullHD TV...

In fact GMA950 support 2048x1536 at 75 Hz maximum resolution... the bandwith is the maximum a single DVI link could support (~160MHz).
Well, sort of. The subsystem's bandwidth is dependent on the memory bus speed of the system it is attached to, & to a lesser extent by the CPU's performance & the characteristics of the display signal. In the Mac Mini, the maximum supported resolution is 1920 by 1200 pixels, & up to either 135 Mhz or 154 MHz, depending on the 'coherency' (huh?) of the display. (reference: Mac mini (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications)
Plus, from what I can tell from Intel's documentation, 1080p is/isn't supported, apparently depending on the performance of the overall architecture, although this is discussed in a Windows context so I have no idea how it applies to OS X.

  • MBP is missing the "Display" icon in Sys Pref, Display PrefPane file needed

    Hi,
I noticed that my "Display" icon under >Hardware, in the System Preferences is suddenly missing. It should be between "CDs & DVDs..." and "Energy Saver" icons. I think I need the Display Preferences Pane. Can anyone send me a copy, I don't have another Mac to copy it from (except a really old 10 yr imac running System 9). I don't know why it is missing, but I can't calibrate my display without it. The "display.prefpane" file is located under system>library>PreferencePanes. My email address is: melissa (at) melissatobiaart (Dot) com
If anyone can send me a copy I would greatly appreciate it!

The file is part of the OS X system therefore it's proprietary to Apple. Furthermore, it's a violation of the Apple Software License to install OS X on more than one CPU at a time (for a single-licensed copy. The Family Pack allows up to five concurrent installations.)
As the AD belongs to Apple it would be against the Terms of Use for us to enable any of the above. Thus, it's both inappropriate to ask as well as to send.
That's my interpretation of the software license. You may choose to interpret it differently or even ignore it, but such actions are best left off of the forums.
I would be more than happy to inquire of the moderators and report back what they suggest.

  • Network PrefPane Options inactive

On one of two PowerBooks I maintain, I can't get WiFi (Airport) to work in Internet Cafes. It works fine at home and if I set up a new user at the Internet Cafe. This would seem to rule out hardware problems and most software.
So I started digging around and the only difference I could find was that the Options… button in the Network PrefPane (System Preferences) won't activate.
I tried to remove/replace the Network PrefPane, but so far Apple won't let me (did Bill Gates sign on at Apple?).
Any hints on what to do? Oddly it's my girl friends computer

  • Msql 5.0.18-standard/mysql prefpane???

    Hi,
    I installed the 64bit version of the MAC OS X package (MYSQL) (on my G5) including the system prefpane;
    I disabled the startupitem in /etc/hostconfig (MYSQLCOM=-NO-)
    I have set a root password for the mysql root account;
    /usr/local/mysql/data/ looks like this:
    332806 drwxr-x--- 10 mysql mysql 340B Mar 19 17:41 data/
I can use terminal to start and stop mysql:
    to start I use : sudo mysqld_safe
to stop I use: mysqladmin shutdown -u root -p
when i try to use the MySQL prefpane
    it switches to :
    MYSQL Server Status and Automatically Start MySQL Server on Startup tab;
    up to now no problem.
When I try to start the server by clicking the "START MySQL Server"
I have to athenticate myself NAME: and Password:
I use my admin account name and password:
    (sometimes it asks me twice)
    all that happens after I press return is the spinning beachball;
unless I force quit System Preferences it will spin forever.....
i worked with the mysql manual but have not found anything of use
    any suggestions
    DP 2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   IBook

    Hi J.J,
If your details are right you are using a G5 and installed the 64 bit pre-compiled version.Do not run the prefpane installer;as it screws up everything;I don't know why ,but it did it.
No fear, you won't have to use terminal.
When you open the .dmg file of mysql you will find an Icon called MySQL.prefPane.(Since I don't remember the correct position within he distribution, you have to look for it).
Then drag and drop it to /Library/PreferencePanes.....
after this fix disk permissions just to ensure everything got the right access permissions.
this is what worked for me....hope this helps...

  • Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey

I just re-installed Logic Pro on my new Mac, but upon launching, it asks me for serial #.  Apparently, I'm using the "upgrade" serial, so after I put in the number, it says "Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey".  I've searched my big Logic 8 box, but all I have are manuals and disks, with no serial #.  I can't find the old dongle either, since I've been using without it on my previous computer.  How do I get past this?

Thanks for that post Bee Jay,
Just tried doing this, didn't work, after closing logic and re-opening without the XSKey it brings up the same 2 boxes, first to insert my upgrade serial and then the original serial. I really hope there is going to be an upgrade to fix this problem as otherwise it looks like ill be stuck with XSKey after all.

    HI guys.
I have re-installed the bundled software after installing the 1.5.2 update and now a few of my preferences are unavailable.
    I get the error
    "Preferences Error"
"Unable to load xXX preference pane"
I cannot load Energy, Desktop and Screensaver, and Spotlight peferences.
I looked at the versions of the .prefPane files..all are newer Universal late 2007.
    PLEASE if anyone knows anytihng..help?

  • Missing prefPane

This is really weird. I was on the phone describing to a client how to change the settings in the DesktopScreenSaver preferences. A simple operation. Then I opened my System Preferences to following along and, low and behold, my DesktopScreenSaver prefPane is missing. I've searched the drive and can't find it. My screensaver actually still works and I've NEVER had any issues with my machine. In its place inside System/Library/PreferencePanes is an alias of the prefpane pointing to the desktop. ***!
    Any ideas?

    Hi Rob
    In /System/Library/Preference Panes/
    you should have
    ScreenSaver.prefPane
which is an alias pointing to
    DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane
which has a mini icon of what you expected to see in System Preferences
    Go to User/Library/Caches/
    and drag
    com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    to the Trash and Restart

  • Major help needed with replacing xskey

    here's the pickle...
i lost my logic pro 7 xskey while traveling.
i can't install/update studio without it, nor run pro 7.
i am currently in a country that doesn't have apple support phone lines.
i can't contact any other apple support phone lines from where i currently am.
I NEED TO FIND A SOLUTION ONLINE, FAST !!!
someone that has information/influence please help me.
    praying for a solution.

You didn't say why you are installing. If you've already installed the upgrade on your machine, you won't need the key.
If you are reinstalling, you shouldn't need to key (because your machine is already authorised).
If you are trying to install your copy of LS on a different machine entirely, then that's different. If you are re-installing on your main machine because you had to reformat, if you'd save your authorisation file you may not have needed to reauthorise again.
What I'm saying is, if you gave some specifics of what and why you are doing this, then I might have been able to help you without having to bother Apple.
But if you are trying to install on a different machine and don't have your dongle, the only people who can legally help you is Apple. Can you phone a friend in the respective country and get them to phone Apple on your behalf?

Hi if they put a second line in would they lay a new cable to the property, if so I will get this done.
The pole is directly outside my house and the ali cable goes down the pole and then underground to my property. Round 40 foot away.
It was the Openreach engineer who told me it was an original Ali cable from the top of the pole into my property, so I only have his word for it.
    Thanks again.
How did this pan out?  It's what I need too.
One of the things I'd like to know about ordering a new line is can one ensure that they pull copper and not reuse spare aluminium.

  • Why Does Logic Pro Repeatedly Asks for Serial # and XSKey When Started?

I've purchased and installed an upgrade to Logic Studio 9. I previously used Logic Pro 7 but did not have it installed on my MacBook Pro when I installed Logic Studio 9.
The installer asked for the Logic Studio 9 serial number which I entered and then prompted for the original serial or XSKey. I dug out the Logic 7 XSKey, plugged it in and it was accepted so I could continue with the installation which completed successfully.
    So far so good.
But now Logic Pro 9 asks for the serial number and XSKey every time I run Logic which isn't what I expect. I re-enter the new serial number and then plug in the XSKey which is accepted and the software runs as expected, but I would prefer not to have to do this every time I start the application, in particular because I don't want to carry the XSKey around with me at all times.
Why isn't Logic 9 storing my serial number? Why does it ask for the serial # and XSKey every time I start the application?
I'm not running Logic as an admin user. Could this be preventing Logic from storing the serial information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this when upgrading from 7 to 8. What I did was plugin the xskey BEFORE I started the upgrade and it never asked for a key or serial again after that.

  • Upgrading from Logic 7 to 9 - can't get rid of XSKey

I have Logic Pro 7 Retail full version (not Academic) and bought Logic Studio 2 Upgrade partly so I could get rid of the XSKey dongle. I had to switch to Re**er for mobile recording because I couldn't count on remembering to pack the dongle with a thousand other peices of gear.
I did a regular clean install of Logic Studio upgrade with the dongle plugged in. When I try to restart without the dongle it asks for the Upgrade serial, and then on the next popup it says "Please enter your original serial number, or insert your Logic XSKey."
I've found a couple of anwers on discussion boards that say "The SN is on the front of your Logic 7 'Installing Your Software' booklet." I've entered both numbers that are there and neither one works. One is an MPN, presumably manufacturer's part number, the other is Support ID, presumably just a Support ID, not a SN. I also tried entering the XSKey ID, and that doesn't work either.
    Help!

Download the "XSKey Updater" http://support.apple.com/downloads/XSKey_Updater and and run it. It will display the serial number of your XSKey. This is the "original serial number" you need to enter (15 digits). If you keep that, you no longer have to enter the XSKey to authorize a fresh install of Logic.

  • Why can't I use AS to change Keyboard prefpane settings?

Hey y'all, I got a question for you.
I have a windows keyboard that I plug into my iBook at home. A very common arrangement, I'm sure.
When I plug the keyboard in, I go into the Keyboard prefpane and use the controls there to swap the <COMMAND> and <OPTION> Keys, so the keys are more mac-like.
What I want to do is pretty simple: Create an applescript to do that for me, so I don't have to, everytime, go Apple -> System Preference -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard -> Modifier Keys etc.
As a total AS newbie, here are my questions:
    1. Can AS do this?
    2. If not, why not? This is a serious question: What good is AppleScript if it won't actually do the things -- especially an extremely simple thing like change a system preference -- that I want it to?
    3. Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks for whatever guidance you can offer!
    Alaska Jack
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi Jack and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    To answer your questions:
    1) Apparently so. See this thread in the Automator forum.
    2) AppleScript is very good at automating repetitive tasks and inter-application communication - provided developers incorporate scriptability into their applications. In the case of System Preferences, Apple themselves haven't put in the "hooks" that allow preferences to be changed without resorting to UI scripting, as in the solution linked above.
    3) It might be possible to parse the preference files themselves.
    Hope this helps,
    H
