XSL Extension Functions

Is it possible to write our own xsl Extension Functions in Java using the oracle 9i xsl translator? If yes, how would I write the namespace to point to my class? I was able to do it with xalan, but unable so far with the oracle xslt. TIA.

You can using XDK for Java

• XSLT Mapping - user defined Extension function

Hi to all,
can somebody helps me, please?
I need an own function, that can be used by the XSL Mapper. First I have only tried the sample given in Path <BPELPM>\integration\orabpel\samples\demos\XSLMapper\ExtensionFunctions
There is a java file with the defined functions and a xml file with the definition of this function for the mapper and last but not least a jar-file with the java class.
I have copied the jar to <JDEV_HOME>\jdev\lib\ext directory and in JDeveloper I have added SampleExtensionFunctions.xml to Tools->Preferences->XSL Map -> "User Defined Extension Functions Config File" field. After a restart of JDeveloper I find 2 new functions in the "User Defined Extension Functions" component palette page when a XSL Map is open. That's fine.
But if I test the mapping I get an error: "Failed to transform source XML.
java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: For extension function, could not find method org.apache.xpath.objects.XNodeSet.replaceChar([ExpressionCotext,]#STRING, #STRING)."
What is wrong?
Thanks in advance of your answer
best regard,

For example:
If we would like to import FAQDBUri.class with user-defined java functions, like TranslateDBUri(), we can write XSL file like this:
<xsl:template match="/" xmlns:dburig="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/FAQDBuri">

• User Defined Extension functions XML file

Hi,
Can we define exception In custom XSLT function XML file.
Like i have following Custom XSLT function XML-

<extension-functions>
<functions xmlns:uppercase="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/oracle.Uppercase">
<function name="uppercase:GetName" as="string">

</function>
</functions>
</extension-functions>
So in case i need to throw an exception in my java function GetName so how can i define that in XML?
Please give some suggestion?
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. When I created extensions.xml (as advised by you) and tried specifying it as User Defined Extension Functions Config file, I get the following error:
Invalid User Extension Functions Config File
Invalid value 'object' for attribute:'as' line 5 column 52
i.e. the following line:
<function name="extensions:getMSPDate" as="object">
Any pointers on what will be the correct value for attribute 'as' for element 'function'?
Also, what is the default namespace being used in the extensions.xml?
Is there a link for more documentation on the format for extensions.xml?

• Soa 11g and jdeveloper 11g user defined extension function

I have developed a set of extension functions,
in design time for the previous version, I can put the deployment file (jar file) that contains the extension functions in the %JDEV_HOME%\jdev\lib\ext directory and jdeveloper recognizes the set of extension functions if previously i have defined an xml descriptor with every one of the functions i need to include in the panel.
Now, with the jdeveloper 11g i have tried the same, and jdev recognizes the functions, but when I am going to test one transformation that includes the extension function, the parser is not founding the jar file; the error (in spanish) is:
XML-22045: (Error) Error de funcion de extension: No se ha encontrado la clase '

my dude is:
+ at design time, where can I put the jars with extension functions to make one transformation function used in a mediator component can works fine?
+ at runtime, where can I put those libraries? (in the previous version, we can put this libraries in the %APP_SERVER%\j2ee\home\applib, or create one shared library and reference it in the oracle.bpel.common shared library declaration of the server.xml configuration file).

• Help! Can I have user defined extension function?

Under SQL Sever XML, I can write a xsl script like this:
<msxsl:script language="JScript" implements-prefix="myfunc">
function getvalue(nodelist,name,istag){
var subNode=nodelist.nextNode();
if(subNode == null) return('?');
if(istag == '') name = '@' + name;
var value=subNode.getElementsByTagName(name);
return((value == null)?'':value);
</msxsl:script>
and I can call this function in the xsl, obviously, msxsl supported by microsoft. I know that Oracle XML support Extension function, but you can tell here that I want a user defined function while not a predefined function. Can I have such feature with Oracle XML, and How? Thanks.

Oracle XML support Extension function.
For example:
If we would like to import FAQDBUri.class with user-defined java functions, like TranslateDBUri(), we can write XSL file like this:
<xsl:template match="/" xmlns:dburig="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/FAQDBuri">

• Using xsl document function in transform xsl

I'm trying to use an external xml document in an xsl transform that's used in a Transform activity in an 11g BPEL process:
<xsl:variable name="plants" select="document('plantTransposeLookup.xml')/plants"/>
I need to load up the document to use it in a lookup to get replacement values for a key.
This works fine in JDev, but not when I deploy it to the server.
The error I get when I run it is:
The XPath expression failed to execute; the reason was: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: XML-22021: (Error) Error parsing external document: 'no protocol: plantTransposeLookup.xml'.. Check the detailed root cause described in the exception message text and verify that the XPath query is correct.
I've also gotten:
The XPath expression failed to execute; the reason was: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: XML-22021: (Error) Error parsing external document: 'Unsupported feature: 'document(''), when stylesheet built using InputStream, Reader'.
I've also tried using the ora:doc function:
<xsl:variable name="plants" select="ora:doc('plantTransposeLookup.xml', 'plants')"/>
......but this doesn't work in JDev and is also erroring off on the server with:
The XPath expression failed to execute; the reason was: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: XML-22016: (Error) Extension function namespace should start with 'http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/'.. Check the detailed root cause described in the exception message text and verify that the XPath query is correct.
Does anyone know how to actually import an xml doc into a mapper??? I must be doing something stupid.
Thanks for any help.

In OSB, document() function needs absolute path of the XML file. So if you want to access the XML document for lookup, you need to put the XML file on the server itself and use the path of the XML file.
Although this is not a correct approach for managing lookups in OSB. The resource of XML Document type are not to be used for such use cases. What you can do is create a XQuery which can server as DVM.
Here is an example on how to use DVMs in OSB:
https://blogs.oracle.com/christomkins/entry/domain_value_maps_in_oracle_se
If you dont want to use XQuery and want to rely only on XSLT, then within the same XSLT document create a separate template which can store all the lookup data.

• Jar-file for XPath extension functions

Hi all,
can anyone tell me which jar-file contains the class for the following xpath extension function / method:
oracle.tip.pc.services.functions.Xpath20.currentDate
I need this for an ant xsl validation which runs without JDev.
Thanks in advance, Ingo

When you go to :
<ORACLE_HOME>/bpel/system/config
you will find the file : xpath-functions.xml
In this file you will see :
<function id="getCurrentDate" arity="0">
<classname>com.collaxa.cube.xml.xpath.functions.datetime.GetCurrentDateFunction</classname>
<comment>
This function returns current date as string.

The signature of this function is ora:getCurrentDate('format'?). The argument (optional) specifies a string formatted accoding to java.text.SimpleDateFormat format.
</comment>
<property id="namespace-uri">
<value>http://schemas.oracle.com/xpath/extension</value>
<comment>Namespace URI for this function</comment>
</property>
<property id="namespace-prefix">
<value>ora</value>
<comment>Namespace prefix for this function</comment>
</property>
</function>This classname can be found in the orabpel.jar
sorry..wrong function..

• ESB XSLT Extension Functions

Hi
Could anybody tell me if we can use log4j in the java class which we write for XSLT Extension Functions which will be used in ESB XSL mappings?
It is not recognizing log4j only.It is not giving any error also.
Thanks
Praveena

Thanks Kanchan.
This is talking about how to implement Extension functions.
I have done this. but my question I am not able to use log4j for debugging purpose in this java class. It is not recognising this.
We need to use logger instead of System.out.println .
Thanks
Praveena

• Create XSL extension

Is there an easy to understand tutorial with all the step to add a component to the "User Defined Extension Functions" pallet. I want to create a function that call a database stored procedure and be able to use it in an xsl map.

I don't believe there's a tutorial, but you can find lots of info in the BPEL demo's, shipped with BPEL. Check:
$SOA_Oracle_home\bpel\samples\demos\XSLMapper\ExtensionFunctions\README.txt

• Implemented OWSM -- XML-22045: (Error) Extension function error

good day
When I activated my OWSMAgent within ESB, I launched a null pointer Exception when running a fault, since I have reviewed the documentation WSM_DeploymentGuide and commented that it is not possible to add an error handler general, reviewing the logs I found the following error:
XML-22045: (Error) Extension function error: Class not found '
Missing class: com.cablemas.extensionfunctioncablemas.ExtensionFunctionCablemas
Dependent class: oracle.xml.xpath.XSLExtFunctions
Loader: oracle.xml: 10.1.0_2
Code-Source: / F: / product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/lib/xmlparserv2.jar
Configuration: <code-source> (ignore manifest Class-Path) in META-INF/boot.xml in F: \ product \ 10.1.3.1 \ OracleAS_1 \ j2ee \ home \ oc4j.jar
This load was initiated at oc4j: 10.1.3 using the loadClass () method.
The missing class is available from the following locations:
1. Code-Source: / F: / product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/j2ee/oc4j_soa/applib/ExtensionFunctionCablemas.jar (from <code-source> in / F: / product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/j2ee/oc4j_soa/config / server.xml)
This source code is available in loader global.libraries: 1.0. This shared-library can be made visible to the "oc4j" by modifying the boot loader descriptor.
Class ExtensionFunctionCablemas use it to take the code of the error, locate it within a table in the DB and return the corresponding message, the null pointer exception only if it throws error. OWSM reviewing the request is recorded correctly, and the answer recorded as a fault but I'm not returning the message corresponding to error code.

Greetings,
Quoted:
When using Oracle XSLT extensions, make sure you set the namespace of the extension class to be:
http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/This was excerpted from the pdf at:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/xml/xdk/collateral/OracleAS10g_10.1.2_XDK_FAQ.pdfThe namespace tells the application how to interpret your XSLT attributes\elements.

• Java extension functions

I am trying to execute XSL transformation of XML document in Oracle 9i database
and I am using java extension function in XSL stylesheet.
The XSL stylesheet namespace for the extension function is defined as follows:
xmlns:distance="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/Helper
Apparently the Oracle XSLT processor can not resolve this reference.
However, the error message is somewhat misleading:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
I tried to load the java helper function in the database but this does not help.
I would appreciate if you could give me some info how to resolve the reference to a java extension function in Oracle 9i database.
Thanks in advance.

We are trying to run java extension functions in Oracle 8i (8.1.7), using the 9.2.0.2 XDK and running into a similar problem.
For testing, the following xsl was used :

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" exclude-result-prefixes="math"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:math="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/java.lang.Math">
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:value-of select="math:ceil(12.34)"/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
A stack trace yields the following:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XSLExtFunctions.getClass(XSLExtFunctions.java:351)
at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XSLExtFunctions.getMethod(XSLExtFunctions.java:229)

Seems like the classloader cannot find the java class files or having some access-related problems.
Any help is appreciated.

• AIA User Extension Functions (AIA 11g)

Hey together,
I add the aia.jar in JDeveloper over Tools-->Preferences-->SOA and restart JDev (AIA Installation Guide 11g - Page 37) . After restart I get the following error in Messages-Log of JDev:
Error: Invalid XSL User Extension Function Config file file:\C:\Oracle\Middleware111120\jdeveloper\lib\aia.jar!\META-INF\ext-soa-xpath-functions-config.xml
Element not completed: 'function' line 11 column 14
Have anybody a solution or can I ignore the error?
Kind regards
Marcel

Hello Gerhard,
I'm pretty sure, that is no a pre-GA version. We test it on different machines and use aia.jar from AIA11g Server and we use AIA Service Constructor Update from Oracle Update Server. Here are an extract from XML-File:

<soa-xpath-functions xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/soa/config/xpath"
xmlns:aia="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/oracle.apps.aia.core.xpath.AIAFunctions">
<function name="aia:getSystemProperty">
<className>oracle.apps.aia.core.xpath.AIAFunctions</className>
<return type="string"/>
<params>

</params>
</function>
<function name="aia:getServiceProperty">
<className>oracle.apps.aia.core.xpath.AIAFunctions</className>
<return type="string"/>
<params>

</params>
</function>
