XT65/XT75 as a GPS tracker

Hi guys,
First of all, sorry about my poor english.
Me and few friends of mine are trying to make gps tracking system, the server is OpenGTS (done.) and accept opendmtp and/or NMEA protocol for incoming messages from the devices and google maps for maps.
We want to be able to trace each other while we are on off-road driving (so it's not commercial, we are 10 peoples max but we will make the server public so anyone can is it for free). Our idea is to attach XT65 on every truck so we can see on the server's page in every moment where each truck is. We want to use XT65 coz it's not expensive (about 60eur with psu module and case), we can't afford other devices :(
I'm trying to find some java app for xt65 or xt75 to act as gps tracker and send its position via GPRS.
I found two simular apps at www .tdc .co .uk /index.php?key=tt070215 but still far from my need.
We need app witch can be configured with IP and port of the server, adjustable time between coordinates sends, ap settings (for gprs transfer). The coordinates should be send using opendmtp or nmea.
If someone know where we can download such app please write. We CAN pay for the app if it's not expensive (we found commercial solution but the devices cost about 100eur per truck and our idea is to be less expensive as possible).
10x in advance

It sounds like you would need to make an app or hire someone to make an app for ya.
If you decide to build something on your own, check out the Apple Developer site, and if you want to hire someone take a look at the Apple Consultants Network.

  • How can I use my iPhone as a GPS Tracker?

How can I use my iPhone as a GPS Tracker? My requirement is not just finding the iPhone using find my iPhone but to use it as a GPS Tracking Device. I wish to enable GPS on my iPhone and want somebody to locate my movement continuously. Earlier I used to do this using my Nokia Phone with Google Latitude. Currently I know Google Plus has a Location Sharing Option also but that doesn't give location details continuously. Any help?

  • GPS Tracking program that continues to track while using other iPhone apps

Does anyone know of a GPS tracking app for the iPhone 3G that will continue to track while listening to music or answering calls? The few apps I've tried quit logging when you change to another app.

Thanks - hopefully Apple will address this soon. I'm not willing to hack/jailbreak my phone just to get this functionality.
    One last dig:
This is the unfortunate reason that I've stayed away from Apple for so long. They make WOW stuff that is pretty and neat to use as long as you stay inside the "box" so to speak. I guess I'll have to take my old blackberry running with me - it can play music AND track your run with GPS. Who would want to do that?

  • What is the best way to geotag photos with data from GPS Tracker Log (GPX format)?

I just returned from a 4 month trip to Southeast Asia. Before I left, I set the time on my camera, a Canon 7D, to match the GPS time on my GPS tracker, a QStarz BT-Q1000X. Both times were set to UTC, also known as GMT.
I have imported the data from the GPS log into Aperture as a GPX file. Now I would like to sync the location metadata on my photos with the data from the GPS log. How can I do this using Aperture 3?
I seem to be having two problems:
Aperture wants to shift the times based on which part of the track I drag the images onto. Since the camera and gps tracker times were sync'd, I do not want any shift.
The time shifts that are displayed are 12 hours and a few minutes, rather than 0 hours and a few minutes.
    A few additional notes:
When I imported the GPS track, Aperture automatically changed the time zone of the track to Asia/Ho Chi Minh City, which is correct (GMT+7).
I have batch changed the images from Camera Time: UTC to Actual Time: GMT+7
The time on my computer is US/Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4), or Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5) when the photos where taken.
Since I was gone for so long, and my GPS tracker memory is limited, I set the tracker to record a trackpoint once every 60 seconds.
Is there a solution to my problems using Aperture 3, or should I start looking for third party applications to geotag the photos before importing them into Aperture?
    Thank you.

I think the 12 hour discrepancy is more likely a result of the 12 hour difference between GMT+5 and GMT-7. The dates and times of the photos and the GPS track are displayed properly in Aperture. See the images below.

  • GPS tracking in labview.

I work with GPS simulation toolkit for labview.
I want GPS tracking in other PC with USB GPS receiver and drawing track.
It's possible? Some google maps/earth working API. I try some API, but it doesnt work.
I use LV 2012 student edition.
    Thanks for reply.

    Hello lacita,
You can take a look at this example I found on the NI community page, in case you haven't already. There's also a lot of shipping examples (in LabVIEW click on Help> Find Examples and search for "GPS") that are GPS related and some of them are specifically designed for Garmin ones.
What USB GPS receiver are you using? What API did you try?

  • I have new 4s.  If phone is stolen do i have GPS tracking feature?

I recently acquired my first iPhone.  The 4s - everything is great.  If the phone is lost or stolen while it is activated; do I have GPS tracking that will help locate the lost phone?

well how do you think you will get your phone back.. Are they going to walk up to you and say "Thanks for letting me steal your phone" lol.. If someone is going to steal any IOS device and could not get it to where they could use it.. They are either A going to blow it up or B try to pawn it off..
No no, what I'm trying to say is that the thief would have no way of disabling the Find My iPhone feature(which they can do now by Restoring the device), so you would always be able to find it no matter what they do, even if that means pawning it. If they blow it up, however, I suppose you're out of luck.
So the password is not going to stop anything.. and what about the majority of those who forget their passwords and cant get into their phone??? now what do they do lol.. make em pay 649$ for another one..
Here is where I agree with you. Like I said, it's obviously not a viable solution to have a last resort password like I'm talking about, because 90% of people who set one will forget it and then like you said, be stuck.

  • Where are GPS tracks stored?

    Two quick questions:
    1) If I import a GPS track into Aperture 3.0.3, does it get copied into and permanently saved in the Aperture library? Or is Aperture just "linking" to the file where it currently resides on my hard drive? I've looked through the manual and these forums, but couldn't find a definitive answer. I'm wondering if I can import my GPS tracks into Aperture and then delete the copy of the GPS track from the other folder on my computer?
    2) If I create a vault, does it back up the GPS track information along with everything else?

You'd want to keep the original files anyway because I'm pretty sure Aperture strips out most of the data in your log file that it thinks it doesn't need. So if you ever might want the data for something else, or it future versions of Aperture add GPS features (like tagging the altitude which it currently ignores), you might not have that data available in the Aperture file.
In my mind, it goes against Aperture's philosophy for your photos of never altering your original data. It's not as if log files are so huge that they couldn't keep the original file inside the Aperture package.

That is what Activation Lock of iOS 7 does
In addition, it renders the iPhone totally useless to anyone who doesn't know your Apple ID and password.

  • GPS tracking way off in iOS4 and/or iPhone4?

    Hi
Have any of you guys noticed problems with tracking using iPhone4 and/or the new iOS? Over the last couple of weeks I have had a lot of problems when I'm tracking my hikes - especially the altitude is waaaaaay off. Different GPS tracking programs (e.g. Gaia, MotionX, Accuterra) would show me as being at, say, 2400ft, whereas the correct altitude would be 3200ft. After a restart of the phone or turning on/off airplane mode, the altitude would now correctly show 3200ft. It appeared that the programs were unable to update the altitude correctly both as I was walking up the mountain and down. This is not specific to a particular GPS tracking program, as opening up different programs and checking the altitude would show almost the same (and wrong) altitude as other programs.
Also, I recorded A LOT of spurious waypoints on my way. I have now tried this on 4 different mountains and the problem persists. I'm just wondering whether this is a general problem or a problem with the GPS software? Have a look at an example trip with problems here (you may need to zoom in):
    http://www.everytrail.com/viewtrip.php?tripid=807646
And nope - I wasn't walking around in circles.....
    Others?

I'm getting very interested in GPS problems across the entire iOS device range. Ive got a 3GS and the GPS satellite fix stopped working completely recently. A fix identified using jailbreak and an ssh terminal tells me a good proportion of these problems are with locationd, the gps process in the iPhone, or more accurately, I think that it's possible for some of the data this process uses to become corrupted; the "fix" involves stopping the process and deleting the data it uses. On restart, locations is forced to rebuild the data, and everything then works.
I suspect this is true across the iPhone range - and worse, I think that the backup function in iTunes actually backs up the bad data. Thus, when you restore from backup, you actually put the problem back in! Either that, or GPS cache data isnt deleted when the iphone is restored.
What we need is an option in iTunes, or the iPhone settings, to clear GPS ephemeris and related data down and restart locationd: this will save apple a fortune in support at genius bars, as I reckon everyone who is getting a replacement is just getting a reblanked refurbished iPhone with no hardware fixes - they could be turning them around in the back of the stores!
We need to get some group pressure together to get an answer out of apple on this really - they do seem to have an approach which has much in common with the way the UK banks were dealing with overdraft fees - if you complained, they refunded just to keep you quiet and make sure you didn't shout. If this issue is an underlying gps driver or application demon issue, they should give us a way to work around the issue.

  • View GPS tracks in Nokia Maps

Is there a possibility to view GPS tracks in Nokia Maps (1.2), e.g. if the track is in gpx or kml format? I tried several converters but the lmx file that I get only gives me waymarks but no routes or tracks. That's ok for short tracks but problematic for long tracks with a lot of waymarks. Is there any other way to deal with this?

  • Since 3.03 update 1 hour difference in imported GPS Track

Since the last Aperture 3.03 update, my GPS tracks are -1 hour.
    My location is the netherlands.
    I've checked everything.
Re-Installed everything (Aperture 2 and 3). On 2 different iMac.
    And the conclusion ...
Both iMacs with update 3.02 the problem is not occuring.
After Updating to 3.03 The same tracks are 1 hour less.
So I must always first "Edit Track Timezone" before I can attach the photos to the track.
Do you have the same problem?
    Do I something wrong?
Thanks in advance for the reply.

    OK, Thanks.
Meanwile I use "GPSPhotoLinker". It's a free .app which adds very easy (and at the right place and second) the photo, just before I import.
That's what I use too - found it helps a lot to take a picture of your GPS unit showing the time display, then you don't have to worry about having the camera's clock exactly correct, you can just apply a easily calculated global correction to the image timestamps and the resulting positions will be fairly precise then.

  • In Maps Module, please enable simultaneous display of multiple GPS Tracks

    Hi LR4 team,
First of all, a big thank you for adding geotagging and mapping support in this version.  I was one of the (many) users who was disappointed that geotagging (as well as soft-proofing) did not make it into LR3.  This time around I'll gladly part with $99 to upgrade to LR4 as it has some great new features.
In the maps module, there does not seem to be a way to display multiple tracks simultaneously.  There's an option to switch between tracks (Map->Tracklog->Next Track|Previous Track) but it doesn't appear to be possible to display multiple tracks simultaneously.  This is a pain, especially if you load a tracklog which contains multiple tracks.  Many dataloggers will start a new track each time the GPS is power cycled (e.g. with battery changes).
Instead of cycling through tracks one at a time (as is the case in LR4 Beta), please consider implementing a multi-select list where the user can check which tracks he/she wishes to display.  Naturally the multiselect should also allow for "Select All" and "Deselect All" and selection of (multiple) ranges using the Shift and individual tracks by holding the Control key -- you know, the typical behavior for lists.
Also please ensure that LR4 hand comfortably handle large track files. I use a datalogger that records its location every 1-10 seconds throughout the day.  This results in a fairly large data set to process.  When travelling, I may not have the opportunity to upload from CF to LR and sync with GPS tracks for several days, which means that I may have accumulated somewhere in the range of 5MB to 50MB of NMEA track data (depending on the sampling rate) in around 5-20 separate tracks.  I'd like LR4 to be able to efficiently handle loading these tracks and tagging all newly imported images.  As above, it would be helpful to enable simultaneous display of many tracks.
    Thanks!
PS: Love the animated (bouncing) trackpoint to disambiguate multiple images taken in close proximity to one another.

    Just as a side question:
Have you ever loaded a tracklog containing different tracks belonging to more than 1 month?
This is what a tracklog with tracks from 10/14/2011 to 11/07/2011 looks like here:
Dropdown for the first November 2011 row:
Dropdown for the second November 2011 row:
Not a big problem, but also not nice.

  • Does importing GPS track override EXIF tags?

    Hi,
I recently took a bunch of pictures on a trip with a camera that embeds GPS location tags in photos' EXIF tags. These photos are now in Aperture and show up well in the "places" view.
A friend also had a GPS tracker on the trip and gave me a copy of the ".log" file. It would be cool to import this into Aperture so that in "Places" I can see the full track in addition to the photos along the way.
My question is: if I do this, will Aperture try to re-locate the already-geotagged pictures based on the track? For a number of reasons (e.g., slightly-mismatching camera clocks, or photos taken on short side-trips that the GPS did not come along for) the existing tags are much more accurate...
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,
Not a lot of Places experience around here, but in my educated guess, Aperture will not do that automatically. If you choose to have Aperture tag your locations through its Places function, then you will probably be replacing that embedded GPS data.
I.e., importing a track log is a separate function from assigning pictures to the locations in the log. It's your choice when to do either.
