Xterm has a weird icon after update

Hi,
I updated today, and afterwards I now have a terminal window with a weird icon.
First I thought this must be an error, maybe it is a graphics glitch... But I guess it is just an ugly icon.
Is it suppose to be a computer screen with a keyboard? It is kind of annoying to stare at all day since it looks like something a 3 year old would draw.

There are two changes involved: one was a modification to let xterm hint the window decoration (which appears to be what you're showing).
That's done now via a resource setting which wasn't really used (iconName), and defaults to a small version of the desktop icon.
The other change allows configuring the mini-icon (which isn't the default simply because it looks different...).
That's done at build-time using --with-icon-name=mini.xterm
As a quick-fix you "should" be able to set iconName (look in /usr/share/pixmaps for some nicer .xpm file)
The change using iconName is noted in the next line of the changelog:
extend iconName resource to search for icon named according to resource value and use that if found. If not found, use compiled-in pixmap. Both set the WM_ICON_NAME property which is used by various window managers, usually for window decoration.

  • Blank webloc icons after updating to 10.8.3

Has anyone else have their webloc icons turn to white instead of the @ icon after the latest update? I have a lot of urls dragged to my desktop that are now white icons. I checked my old ones that I have in folders and they turned white also.

YES!!! EXACTLY THE SAME!!   I started a post and mentioned it in another--- then I found yours by googling --- this is really amazing!  I have a bunch of other Finder Window issues, and thought this was maybe just me but I've had others say it is EVERYONE--
They still seem to function but I sure am glad my other icons have retained their "logo"--- imagine if they all disappeared!  I really enjoy using Icon mode in the Finder----
If you find out more, please post.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo B590 - Odd "Icon" After Update

    Hello,
After updating a friends computer, I have a new "icon" that I can't get rid of. I upgraded the memory & ran all the Windows & Lenovo updates. Pictures below.
The "icon" is on top of everything I open. Desktop, web pages, files, etc. Clicking, or right clicking on it, has no effect. It doesn't seem to do anything, but is in the way because it is on top of everything that we are trying to do.
I assume this a Lenovo "icon", because I have never seen it in Windows before. I uninstalled the new memory, just to make sure that wasn't the problem & it wasn't. I have gone through all the Lenovo applications & nothing jumps out at me. But not knowing what I am looking for makes it hard to figure out.

I'm sure it is an easy setting adjustment, I just can't figure it out & I don't want to give it back like this.
The OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

OK, Got it figured out. It is a number lock icon. Fixed by going to monitor properties & adjusting the on screen display settings. Must of defaulted to "always show indicator" when updating the video drivers from the Lenovo site. I don't know why you would ever want this. I hope others are able to figure this out easier than I was. Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
We're not staff, but other Mac users here, asking questions and sharing solutions.
You have downloaded (or someone has given you) a free or real cheap "All Caps" font.
Because it was not built correctly, it is conflicting with an often used font on websites like Arial or Helvetica. You need to go through your Font Book application and actually look at your fonts to find that one.
I'm familiar with many fonts, but I don't recognize that one. Most likely because it's free.

  • System has slowed down considerably after updates from Apple. Is SyncServer the culprit?

I use MacBook with preinstalled OS Leopard since April 2009. I have also regulalry updated my computer system using the Software Update application. However, since my last update on 12th Aug 2011, I have noticed that my system has slowed down. There is long pause between every character I type, delay in switching applications, battery dries out quicker, slow response to every command.
I have started facing this problem after updating following software like iTunes 10.4, Safari 5.0.6, Migration Assistant Update for MAC OS Leopard & Quick Time 7.7 from Software Updater. Although, my OS is still leopard.
I noticed on the Activity Monitor that syncserver is using majority of my RAM and reappers even if I stop the process. Some of its subprocess like AddressBookSync also appears and consumes lot of memory. Is this the problem? Though, I never noticed earlier what size it consumed.
I use Microsoft Office suite for Mac and have also checked and deselected all sync services. Yet, the Process (PID 305) continues to appear in Activity Monitor.
I am no techie, and would appreciate quick help to resolve this issue.
    Thanks!

I was just about to write the same problem, but I don't have VMware; my laptop is late 2008 was running Snow Leopard (uptodate version).
I've scientific softwares so probably would require a clean re-installation of ML. I MUST MENTION HERE that those software which were written for PPC will NOT work on ML. Just found out that one of my important softwares version won't work on ML; need $500  to upgrade that software .
Therefore, I'd also want to know how can I go back to SL.
I'll let you know how clean re-installation has worked.

  • HT4061 iTunes icon after updating 7.02 fix

What do I do if the iTunes icon comes up, but I have no computer to sync it after updating the 7.02 fix?

Yes..plug it in USB. iTunes will tell you it found a device in recovery mode and will let you restore. It will download iOS 7 and reinstall it. When the inatll is finished and you get to the Hello screen, unplug it and follow the on screen setup. When given the option restore fram your iCloud backup.
Make sure the computer is running the most recent version of iTunes (11.1) before you start.

  • Why has my computer slowed after updating with mavericks

i updated to mavericks .since i did this my computer has slowed and i am also getting problems with streaming can i revert back to mountain lion.

how much RAM do you have?
how full is your hard drive?
what apps are you trying to run when things are slow?
do you have any crapware installed, like
    antivirus software
    defragmenters
    "cleaners"
    "optimizers"
how long has it been since you updated? Spotlight may be updating, that can take a while, and things may be slow while it does.
Boot into your recovery partition (hold down ⌘R at restart until you see the Apple symbol), go to Disk Utility, and repair your hard drive. While you're there, repair permissions too. OSX Tips Using the Recovery HD
Try a safe boot (hold down shift and restart) : Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? . If this works, it means that the problem is with some third-party software you have installed.
Try a test user account: Isolating an issue by using another user account .
That is: if you want, we could try to fix what is wrong. Otherwise, you could certainly go back to ML if you want. How you would get there would depend on how your computer originally came, either with OS installer discs, or with the OS already installed. osx - Roll back from OS X Mavericks ( or any newer OS) to Mountain Lion - Ask Different

  • Red one circle in the setting icon after update to IOS 7.02

I just got the iPhone 4S. Only question is that the Settings Icon has a red circle with a 1 in it after the update to IOS 7.02, like you would have over the mail icon if you had one message. I have gone thru the settings category, but don't see anything that indicates what the 1 pertains to. Reset, and return to factory settings after the backup doesent works. Any ideas ?

It usually means there is a system update available.  It sounds like it didn't get reset after your update.  Restart your phone by holding down the home button and power button together for about 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears on the screen and then release them.
See if that clears up the badge.

  • Weird problem after updating to 1.2

    Hi,
recently I updated to the iPod 1.2 software, but when I try to play some of the songs, it freezes and refuses to play unless I skip forward, press pause, then play again. I tried restoring the iPod, creating a new library etc, but it doesn't work! Please help! (If this problem still presists, I'll go to the Apple store, but I hope I don't have to)
BTW, my iPod is a 60 GB Black model.
    Thanks!
    Dell e1405   Windows XP

From the number of posts regarding the same issue with 1.2 and any ipod with a color display (both my ipod nano and video ipod crapped out), there is obviously a serious bug with this "upgrade."
I agree we should give them a chance, but I find it unacceptable that after this amount of time that the Applecare support technicians, up to TIER 3, have never even heard of this issue. They wanted me to return my ipod(s) in for factory service even after I numerously reminded them that they both work perfectly once downgrading to 1.1.1!
I am a long-time apple-geek, but this issue upsets me because it is so uncharacteristic of the standards of excellence Apple has always provided, and smacks of the pervasive frustration we all deal with when using Microsoft products.
......and it is especially frustrating that all of the purchases I excitedly bought once videos are now provided at 640x480 resolution are not playable with version 1.1.
But with version 1.2, the higher resoultion videos are transferable to the ipod, but no videos are playable due to this firmware incompatibilty.
Apple: do you read these discussion forums??

  • Two iMovie icons and two iPhoto icons after update.

    Picture first.
    Hi all,
I encoutered this problem after yesterday's update (this update may be published days before).
Only a single iMovie and a single iPhoto application are found in my hard driver. So, I think there should be something wrong with the Lanchpad or the Finder.
Anyone can help me to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Chengjie

It happened to me as well after the last upgrade and i fixed it with a "windows-like" trick:
    1) move imovie and iphoto from your application folder to somewhere else (i put it on my desktop)
    2) open launchpad and you should see only one imovie and iphoto icon. close lounchpad
    3) put imovie and iphoto where it was
at the end of this i still had only one skype icon in my lunchpad.

  • "iTunes has encountered a problem" after updating Podcasts

I've been running iTunes happily since December 2009 on my Windows XP machine. I've allowed each update to be applied and have never had a problem with it.
Suddenly today, I started getting an "iTunes has encountered a problem an needs to close" error about 30 seconds or so after iTunes loads. This happened repeatedly.
One of the suggestions on forums was to re-install QuickTime - I did this and it made no difference. I then fought with uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all other Apple apps for several hours. I worked through the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" problem, I managed to locate and use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (even though Microsoft have removed it), I re-installed the software and even managed to fix the "Apple Application Support Was Not Found" problem once iTunes was installed.
I finally managed to get iTunes up and running again and to my amazement it even recognised by iTunes library...and then got the "iTunes has encountered a problem" error that I started with ?
I've now watched iTunes more carefully to see exactly what's happening. What I can see is that it is trying to update my podcasts. It is simulatenously downloading three as usual and all goes fine until it's downloaded and processed one. After it's finishing processing the first one, the downloads stop and the original error is given. If I re-start it, the same thing happens (albeit with a different podcast).
I'm completely stuck now. Where do I go from here to sort this one out ? All help very gratefully received.

Apple Application Support program file ... unlikely to be damaged, because after the uninstall/reinstall torment you went through, that's a brand new copy of the file you've got in there.
Can you check something further for me please? (This isn't going to be a cure in itself, but fingers crossed it'll rule out some possibilities and narrow in on some other possible causes.)
Create a new Windows user account on the PC with full administrative rights. Log out of your usual account and log into the new one. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Open iTunes in the new account. The setup assistant will run. Don't add any files when prompted, just let it eventually open to an empty library.
Now try downloading one of the podcasts that caused the crash into the new account's library. Do we get another "iTunes has encountered a problem" in there too? Or does it download without issue in there?

I'm not sure what you have done here because there is no Apple software update that will allow you to watch movies on an iPod photo.
Is this some 3rd party application you have installed that's messed up your iPod?
