XTRA - Audible file causes "Playback Error" or wo

I am using the player in Car Mode so it shuts down automatically when I turn off the car. Last week I had played through about 4 hours into the 8 hour Audible file. I got in my car yesterday and it wouldn't play the file. It showed the time as --:--:-- and the HD stopped spinning.
I tried going forward and backward and neither worked.
I tried switching to another track, but it would not stop attempting to play the Audible file.
Using the recovery menu, I selected "Clean Up". This allowed me to play other files, including other Audible files, but it would still hang when attempting to play that specific file.
Today, I removed that file from my Zen and re-transferred it using the Audible Manager.
Now when I attempt to play that file it plays the "This is Audible" part, about 2 seconds, and then shows the "Playback Error" message.
I tried skipping forward using the Go To Section function and it hard crashed.
Is there something I can do to be able to play this file?
Is this an indication that something is wrong with my Xtra?
Thanks,
Altair

Does it happen only to that particular file only? If it does, then it's most likely a problem with your file rather than the player.

  • Hyperlink to a file causes FTP error?

If I insert a hyperlink to a file that is located on my local hard drive, the site will not publish. iWeb says 'error communicating with the FTP server', and contact your service provider, etc.
If I remove the link, everything publishes fine.  I am assuming the file can be anywhere, and iWeb will create a copy and move it (FTP) to the web server. Or do I need to manually put the file on the FTP site myself?  If so, how do I refer to it in the iWeb designer?

If you are using the iWeb FTP to upload your site files they will be inside a folder as described here...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
The PDF you upload needs to be outside of this folder or iWeb will overwrite it when you next publish changes. Create a folder and name it something like PDF-Downloads. Put the .pdf file inside and upload it to the root folder using an FTP app. The link will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/PDF-Downloads/file-name.pdf
If you want the file to download when the link is clicked, create a Windows compatible zip file as described on this page...

  • Deleted swc files causing an error

    Hi,
I have built an AIR app using FB3 and have been playing
around with styling it up. At first I was using flash cs4 to build
skins and import them as swc files which worked fine but then I
realised that I could get away with just using style sheets and so
I deleted the swc files and all references to them that I could
see. Now when I try to run the project I get an error saying that
flex was unable to open the swc.
I can't find where the error originates from or why it should
still be looking for the file at all. I have tried cleaning the
project and restarting FB but I cant clear this error.
Anyone have any advice on this one?
    Cheers all

    Try cleaning your project.

  • (auto-)syncing is stopped when just one file causes an error message

I tried auto-sync an manual sync, but whenever there's a file that can't be tranfered to my ipod classic, the whole process is interupted. that's really annoying because I can't monitor the whole process. is there any chance to skip files that won't be transferred to the ipod?

I am having a similar problem. Dead old drive - trying to sync to the new computer, but don't want to put it on the hard drive, but rather on an external drive. It looks like the files are there, but they don't show up in the library. Any help for that situation? I've been battling this for about 3 months and haven't been able to add anything new to my iPod since then. Help!

  • Pdf file causing archive utility to throw error

I have a couple of pdf files which cannot be compressed without an error. Supposing that the nasty file is called foo.pdf.
. In the Finder, right click on foo.pdf
    . Select Compress "foo.pdf"
A file called foo.pdf.zip is created but an error pops up An error occurred while compressing a file. Strangely enough, the error window has a titlebar called "Copy".
When looking in the Console, there is always an error from mdworker listed:
    2/24/2009 10:23:37 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/Metadata.framework /Versions/A/Support/mdworker[20524] zip importer countered an error (2) scanning "/Path/to/foo.pdf.zip"
This same file also always errors out when trying to use -ditto- in a Terminal window. (See this minithread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1724912 )
FWIW, attempting to open foo.pdf.zip causes the Archive Utility to throw the error
Unable to unarchive "foo.pdf.zip" into "Wherever".
Error 1 - Operation not permitted
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem?
    Bill

Nothing's wrong with it except that it doesn't support encrypted .zip files.  You'll just have to use third-party software, or a Terminal command, to unzip those.

  • Playback of file causes appletv to reboot

i converted a whole batch of tv episodes, all converted using the same program and the same preset.
they are all a 4:3 ratio and were converted from DVD.
now, it appears that some have a resolution of 788x576 and some are 788x592.
now, for some reason some of the files play fine, however other seem to make the appletv reboot.
i can't seem to work out what is causing this. not sure if it is the conversion or whether it is something that metax has done to the file.
here are the details of one of the files causes a reboot
    format : JVT/AVC coding, 720x592 (788x592), Millions AAC Stereo (LR) 48000KHz
    FPS : 25
    Data Size : 256MB
    Data Rate : 1512 kbits/s
    normal size : 788x592
    current size : 788x592 (actual)
appletv is unmodified and has actually had a factory restore today (for no specific reason other than to clear some "stuck" podcast favourites).

I couldn't be sure if it relates to your problem but there is something wrong with your dimensions. DVD (PAL) is 720 x 576 (encoded pixels). For 4:3 content the display size should be 768 x 576.
Increasing the number of encoded pixels during conversion is an extraneous exercise since you cannot gain quality and merely increase the amount of space the file occupies or more likely increase the amount of compression required to maintain the same datarate.
That being said, increasing the number of encoded pixels shouldn't actually be a reason in itself to cause you playback issues as you describe them. However, it should be noted that the software I suspect you have used doesn't ordinarily increase the encoded pixels, so one has to wonder if something isn't going wrong during the conversion stage.

I have a Shockwave Error: "This Shockwave movie has errors that have caused playback problems.  Please contact the author of this content regarding this problem.   Shockwave is unable to continue."  What I can make ?

This is some built-in "protection" that was engineered into Shockwave some years ago. It means that SW will ignore the first 10 script errors then throw the dialogue you are seeing. You really will have to contact the developer of the content in question to have it fixed - there's nothing anyone else can do. The developer needs to replicate your error, determine the cause, rectify it and republish their movie

  • Audible file starts at beginning when Zen XTRA 40gb is not powered on after about 24

I don't know if this is the case for everyone, but my Zen XTRA, if it is not powered on for more than 24 hours, it seems the memory is reset and does a cold boot from the Creative logo screen, and when I play my Audible file, instead of playing from where it left off before the power off, it plays from the beginning. If I don't bookmark before I power off, and don't use my player for over 24hours, I have to manually forward to where I last left off in my audible program.
It's kind of an annoyance. I wonder if it's only my player, or if other players are having the same problem.
    Deli'verator

Just so you know, I have the same problem with my Zen Xtra and found your post looking for a solution. Yes, it's a pain, and I wish I had an answer. If you find a fix (the bookmark workaround seems reasonable in the short term), please post it here. I'll do the same. Good luck.

  • Playback of Audible files garbled since 2.2 upgrade

1st gen iPhone, 8g. Starting immediately with the 2.2 upgrade, my Audible files are intermittently garbled.
Each "garble" lasts a few seconds, and some of the words said in that window are lost, while some are barely intelligible. I'd say I get one garble every 10 or 15 minutes on average.
    Any ideas?

No problems here with my audible files.
Have you removed and resynced the audiobook?
Have you tried restarting or resetting?

  • New Playback Error

I have recently been having trouble with a shockwave movie
that I have posted on the web. I have been encountering an error
    message that reads:
“This Shockwave movie has errors that have caused
playback problems. Please contact the author of this content
regarding this problem. Shockwave is unable to continue”.
The problem is that I have had this movie posted for several
years now and I have never had this issue with it before, the file
has not been modified in any way. Furthermore the error seems to
come and go periodically. The error message will appear whenever
you attempt to access the Shockwave movie for several hours but if
you wait and revisit the site the error will disappear and the
Shockwave movie will load without any issues. I have tried
recompiling the original .drc file in Director however I cannot
find any obvious errors in the code. I have encountered this issue
on a windows Vista machine using both Firefox 2.0 and IE 7. I
noticed that there has recently been an update to Shockwave player
and I am wondering if this has anything to do with my problem. Has
anyone else been encountering issues similar to this? Any ideas or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The Shockwave file is
    posted at:
    http://www.psych.ualberta.ca/~ITL/InformationLiteracy/WebPages/WritingAPA.htm

My only experience with this kind of message was when disk
    space was very
low. So if it's on a server that could be a problem but I
    really only
experienced it when movies were played locally. I haven't
    seen it in a
while because my new machine has oodles of disk space.

  • Strange, skipping/playback error on ALL my so

This error occours on every song I play on my creative zen xtra 30gb, and includes both mp3 and wma format files. The error is; around min20sec into a song the player will make a popping noise and repeat the same 3 seconds of the song, this can be cured by skipping about 5 seconds of music, but the problem repeats itself about a minute later, I have been unable to find this problem or an answer to it on the forums. I am running the latest versions of all the creative software, the songs do not have playback errors on my pc, errors only occour on the device, I have also tried reformatting and reloading songs and firmware, as well as clean up but the problem still occours.
Any help would be greatly appreciatted,
    mark

Has anyone else experienced this as it's giving me a headache now x

You need to configure your config directory before you deploy. If you never configured v2 listener before then create a new folder like "c:\apex\config". Then use
    java -jar apex.war configdir  c:\apex\config
Then do your configuration as required and then deploy again.

  • "No such file or directory" errors on Time Machine backup volume

I remotely mounted the Time Machine backup volume onto another Mac and was looking around it in a Terminal window and discovered what appeared to be a funny problem. If I "cd" into some folders (but not all) and do a "ls -la" command, I get a lot of "No such file or directory" errors for all the subfolders, but all the files look fine. Yet if I go log onto the Mac that has the backup volume mounted as a local volume, these errors never appear for the exact same location. Even more weird is that if I do "ls -a" everything appears normal on both systems (no error messages anyway).
It appears to be the case that the folders that have the problem are folders that Time Machine has created as "hard links" to other folders which is something that Time Machine does and is only available as of Mac OS X 10.5 and is the secret behind how it avoids using up disk space for files that are the same in the different backups.
I moved the Time Machine disk to the second Mac and mounted the volume locally onto it (the second Mac that was showing the problems), so that now the volume is local to it instead of a remote mounted volume via AFP and the problem goes away, and if I do a remote mount on the first Mac of the Time Machine volume the problem appears on the first Mac system that was OK - so basically by switching the volume the problem switches also on who shows the "no such file or directory" errors.
Because of the way the problem occurs, ie only when the volume is remote mounted, it would appear to be an issue with AFP mounted volumes that contain these "hard links" to folders.
There is utility program written by Amit Singh, the fella who wrote the "Mac OS X Internals" book, called hfsdebug (you can get it from his website if you want - just do a web search for "Mac OS X Internals hfsdebug" if you want to find it ). If you use it to get a little bit more info on what's going on, it shows a lot of details about one of the problematic folders. Here is what things look like on the first Mac (mac1) with the Time Machine locally mounted:
    mac1:xxx me$ pwd
    /Volumes/MyBackups/yyy/xxx
    mac1:xxx me$ ls -a

    152 -rw-r--r--@ 1 me staff 7717 Dec 17 10:54 A9.txt
So you can see from the first few lines of the "ls -a" command, it shows some file/folders but you can't tell which yet. The next "ls -la" command shows which names are files and folders - that there are some folders (like ACPI) and some files (like A.txt and A9.txt) and all looks normal. And the "hfsdebug" info shows some details of what is really happening in the "Documents" folder, but more about that in a bit.
And here are what a "ls -a" and "ls -al" look like for the same locations on the second Mac (mac2) where the Time Machine volume is remote mounted:
    mac2:xxx me$ pwd
    /Volumes/MyBackups/yyy/xxx
    mac2:xxx me$ ls -a

If you look very close a hint as to what is going on is obvious - the inode for the Documents folder is 152 on the local mounted case (the first set of code above for mac1), and it's 728505 in the remote mounted case for mac2. So it appears that these "hard links" to folders have an extra level of folder that is hidden from you and that AFP fails to take into account, and that is what the "hfsdebug" shows even better as you can clearly see the REAL location of the Documents folder is in something called "/.HFS+ Private Directory Data%000d/dir_135" that is not even visible to the shell. And if you look closely in the remote mac2 case, when I did the "cd Documents" I don't go into the inode 135, but into the inode 728505 (look close at the "." entry for the "ls -la" commands on both mac1 and mac2) which is the REAL problem, but have no idea how to get AFP to follow the extra level of indirection.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this so that "ls -l" commands don't generate these "no such file or folder" messages?
I am guessing that the issue is really something to do with AFP (Apple File Protocol) mounted remote volumes. The TimeMachine example is something that I used as an example that anyone could verify the problem. The real problem for me has nothing to do with Time Machine, but has to do with some hard links to folders that I created on another file system totally separate from the Time Machine volume. They exhibit the same problem as these Time Machine created folders, so am pretty sure the problem has nothing to do with how I created hard links to folders which is not doable normally without writing a super simple little 10 line program using the link() system call - do a "man 2 link" if you are curious how it works.
I'm well aware of the issues and the conditions when they can and can't be used and the potential hazards. I have an issue in which they are the best way to solve a problem. And after the problem was solved, is when I noticed this issue that appears to be a by-product of using them.
Do not try these hard links to folders on your own without knowing what they're for and how to use them and not use them. They can cause real problems if not used correctly. So if you decide to try them out and you loose some files or your entire drive, don't say I didn't warn you first.
    Thanks ...

The problem is Mac to Mac - the volume that I'm having the issue with is not related in any way to Time Machine or to TimeCapsule. The reference to TIme Machine is just to illustrate the problem exists outside of my own personal work with hard links to folders on HFS Extended volumes (case-sensitive in this particular case in case that matters).
I'm not too excited about the idea of snooping AFP protocol to discover anything that might be learned there.
The most significant clue that I've seen so far has to do with the inode numbers for the two folders shown in the Terminal window snippets in the original post. The local mounted case uses the inode=728505 of the problematic folder which is in turn linked to the hidden original inode of 135 via the super-secret /.HFS+... folder that you can't see unless using something like the "hfsdebug" program I mentioned.
The remote mounted case uses the inode=728505 but does not make the additional jump to the inode=135 which is where lower level folders appear to be physically stored.
Hence the behavior that is seen - the local mounted case is happy and shows what would be expected and the remote mounted case shows only files contained in the problem folder but not lower-level folders or their contents.
From my little knowledge of how these inode entries really work, I think that they are some sort of linked list chain of values, so that you have to follow the entire chain to get at what you're looking for. If the chain is broken somewhere along the line or not followed correctly, things like this can happen. I think this is a case of things not being followed correctly, as if it were a broken chain problem then the local mounted case would have problems also.
But the information for this link in the chain is there (from 728505 to the magic-135) but for some reason AFP doesn't make this extra jump.
Yesterday I heard back from Apple tech support and they have confirmed this problem and say that it is a "implementation limitation" with the AFP client. I think it's a bug, but that will have to be up to Apple to decide now that it's been reported. I just finished reporting this as a bug via the Apple Bug Reporter web site -- it's bug id 8926401 if you want to keep track it.
    Thanks for the insights...

  • File not found error when opening securedoc.html

We are having a sudden issue where recipients of our secure envelope emails will open a message from us with attachments and they will get a "File Not Found" error message.
We are still using a Post X appliance, but no config changes were made whatsoever and this started happening since last weekend. (Oct. 9-11)
I did reboot the Post X box and thought the problem was fixed w/ the reboot. I sent a secure message to myself and then opened it along with the attachment and all was good. I sent the second test and the problem was back; "File not found".
I have noticed that when I get file not found the address bar in my browser is pointing to: https://res.cisco.com/websafe/eo/error?error=notfound
The time after rebooting when it did work it pointed to file on my local computer hard drive:
    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/mymachine/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/PXTemp/-6pAQ4_Y5hJEmKdQhtG8lhNx0zo!/PX_L_1255377132267.html
Any ideas what could have caused this sudden issue? How do we resolve? I have a call into support, but they have been researching it all day and our secure mail is down!
