Xtreme Music Digital

Hello,
I've upgraded to 64-Bit Vista, and I can't get the SPDIF passthrough on my Xtreme Music card to work. The SPDIF Input Settings option under the SPDIF tab is grayed out in the console.
I'm using the latest driver, and it specifically said on the download page that SPDIF passthrough is supported in Vista 64-Bit. What am I doing wrong?

To get a 5. spread on the 5500 with an optical or coaxial connection, you need to use the Effect button on the controller and switch to PL II Music. You can then spread the sound to the back using the Levels button and turning Surround up to your desired level. There are also some changes you can make using the Settings button.
As for the Dolby Digital and DTS, that will only show up on the controller when you are watching a DVD which supports either/or.
Hope this helps

  • X-Fi Xtreme Music + Digital I/O + Optical Connection for z-5

Hi there, im new and very raw so i was wondering if anyone can clear some things up.
Ive had my X-Fi Xtreme Music card for about 3 months and in that time i've been using the 3 analogue 3.5mm connections to my z-5500 controller, and i've had no problem in terms of getting full 5. sound for music and in games. Ive recently bought a digital I/O from creative to have an optical connection to the z-5500 controller.
    My questions are:
    1) Can i get 5. sound using the optical connection When i had the analogue connection, my z-5500 controller said it was 6. surround, but when i changed the input to optical, the controller said it was stero and not 6. surround. Ive testing the speakers in the creative console, but my rear right and rear left is mostly comming from my front right and front left speakers (something is comming out of the rear speakers but its very low)
    2) Ive downloaded the dell drivers and went through the process as noted on another thread and i've successfully got the dts and dolby digital working, but how do i know it works Is there some way i can test and see if it works I mean isnt my z-5500 controller supposed to say dts or dolby digital because at the moment it isnt.
    3) Is there any sound difference between an optical connection and the annalogue connection in terms of playing mp3's and games. Im aware that dts and dolby digital isnt available on the analogue connection, but i dont watch many dvd's on my comp so is there an point to have the optical connection
Thanks very much for anyone that helps.

  • X-Fi Xtreme Music Digital In on Vista x64?

I am trying to send a PCM signal from my CD player digital coax output to the X-Fi Xtreme Music input (the Flexi Jack). In the Console I am setting the input as Digital I/O, mode it is Audio Creation Mode, but I cannot get any signal. If I switch Flexi Jack to "Line In", I have signal (Monitor record Line In).
I have signal coming out from the same Jack when it is configured as Digital I/O. The cable has stereo jack on one end and 2x RCA on the other. The White is the digital out, I am guessing the the Red shall be the Digital In...
Did somebody manage to make this work

Just an update, I'm throughly convinced the problem lies in the fact that the "SPDIF Input Settings" drop down menu in the Audio Console is grayed out and I can't access it.
I read some things about how the Flexijack doesn't support Digital Inputs, only outputs, but according to this chart,
    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=55&product=780#
The X-Fi Xtreme Music does support the SB Digital I/O Module. Again, any help would be appreciated.

I desintalled my sound card, reinstalled it, for the same result " no optical data".
Few houres after it worked again, ( and i did nothing!!

    I'm completly desesperate !
His someone have the same problem? can it be my sound card or the I/O module which have a problem
    thamks for your help

    hi jason
thank you for your answer (and sorry for my english ;-)
When the speaker indicate no optical data, the I/o module doesn't emit the light anymore.
unfortunatly, i can't test soundcard and I/O module on an other computer.
i don't think my system is the problem, I also update with the latest driver's card.
i bought my XFI card on 06/05/06 and i just received my I/O module from creative store
do you think guarantee can be apply on this case ?

  • X-Fi Xtreme Music and Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 speakers NOT Working Digitally

Can someone tell me why I cannot get the digital I/O jack to ouput the my speakers? I have tried using the creative I/O module plugged into the digital I/O jack then using a coaxial cable or optical to the 5700 speakers and neither works. I tried using the miniplug to digital DIN adapter that came with the 5700 speakers and it doesn't work. I know the speakers are fine cause they work fine using the onboard sound digital ouput. Did Creative do something to the X-Fi line of cards here?
    Thanks for any replies,

  • How to connect SB X-FI XTREME MUSIC with Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5

    Hi,
I want to know what I have to do to connect my x-fi xtreme music with my creative inspire 5. digital 5700 due to listen music with all? 5 twiters. I have windows vista ultimate 32bits. Thanks!?JoanMessage Edited by joanantoni on 07-9-200703:54 AM

With your Inspire 5. Digital 5700, your best bet is?using the analog Front and Rear input connections on the decoder and connect them to the X-Fi Xtreme Music front (Line Out )?and rear (Line?Out 2)?output connections and then enable CMSS Music or CMSS Movie Mode on your Digital 5700 decoder which will then give you a 4./5. Upmix. Gi'ven that you don't have a Center connection on the the Inspire 5. Digital 5700, no connection can made to the your Front Center satelite speaker/Subwoofer (Line Out 3) on your X-Fi Xtreme Music card. I'm led to understand that Creative speaker systems do not need Bass Redirection to reproduce proper Bass frequencies on your Subwoofer and not on your satelite speakers but you may want to test this simply enabling and disabling Bass Redirection, on your X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card, to your own personal taste. Alternately, you can concurrently connect your Inspire 5. Digital 5700 via the Coxial Digital/PCM Input to the FlexiJack input/output jack on the X-Fi Xtreme Music and then enable Digital I/O mode for the FlexiJack in the Audio Console found in the Windows Control Panel or?in the Entertainment Mode or Game Mode Consoles. Unfortunately the FlexiJack only provides a 2 conductor connection therefore it only supports 2. Speaker system connections?therefore you will still have to enable the CMSS Music or CMSS Movie Modes on your Inspire 5. Digital 5700 decoder to produce a 4./5. sound upmix. Sadly, no optical connection can be made between your Inspire 5. Digital 5700 and your X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card without the installation of the X-Fi I/O Dri've or X-Fi I/O Console at, of course, additional expense. From my standpoint, the X-Fi I/O Dri've is a good value given the number of external inputs and outputs in offers. Again, it's a matter of what your personal connection requirements are and budget. Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music & Creative Digital I/O Mod

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music and I am told by the USA Creative website that I can attach a Creative Digital I/O Module (see link below). What I want to know is, will the optical output on the Creative Digital I/O Module produce a stereo, 5., 6. or 7. output? Or even all of these?

    Hi Andy,
It depends on the source. On an optical output, you'll get multiple channels through if it's an AC3 source, such as the audio from a DVD. Other/normal audio will only come through as a stereo PCM signal though, so you'll only get 2 channels then. Check this sticky thread for some more detail:

  • No subwoofer with X-Fi Xtreme Music connected to analog 5.1 inputs of HT amplifier

I have a X-Fi Xtreme Music connected to the analog 5.1 channel inputs of my Thomson home theater amplifier.
Everything works fine expect for the subwoofer. When I play stereo content using CMSS 3D or when I use Creative's built-in DD or DTS decoders there's no sound of of the subwoofer. All the other speakers work perfectly but the subwoofer doesn't respond at all.
But when I use PowerDVD to playback a DVD/BluRay which has a Dolby or DTS 5.1 soundtrack the subwoofer works like a charm. I guess that's because PowerDVD uses it's own DD/DTS decoder and not the X-Fi's one.
I also tried to use the bass redirection function in the THX console but that didn't make a difference either.
I also tried different drivers but non of them could fix this so far:
-latest official driver and console launcher available from Creative (couldn't try the bass redirection with this driver as it has no THX console)
    -SB X-Fi Series Support Pack 2.0?by ?daniel_k
-SB X-Fi Series AuzenForte Pack .0 by daniel_k
Does anyone know that problem or maybe even know how to fix it's?
If it can't be fixed on the software side I thought about using a Y-cable and a low pass filter to input the X-Fi's center speaker signal into my amplifier's subwoofer input. The only problem with that would be that I would have to switch to the X-Fi's real subwoofer output and back when I play back a DVD or BluRay using PowerDVD as PowerDVD outputs the bass signal to the subwoofer output like it should be.
What do you think about that workaround?
    Thanks

Welcome to my dillema... i own the x-fi fatality and i'm on the virge of dumping it in favour of competition's cards. problem is that x-fi will NOT encode 5. over digital. Yes your receiver has 5. decoder but the card does NOT encode the sound. at best you'll get 2 channels. azuntech cards are capable of this I believe. what i am doing at the moment is use RCA cables and go over analog and let x-fi do the work as opposed to the receiver. 2x /8 stereo to 2 cable RCA, and /8 stereo to 3 cable RCA (camcorder type) cables. alternati'vely you can spend couple bucks and buy the adapter creative sells for connecting to home theater system. as far as what you can do to get x-fi to do 5. over digital... well there's not a hell of a lot you can do because the card doesn't support it... unless a creative staff can correct me and show me how to do this

  • Poor X-FI Xtreme Music sound quality due to speake

I purchased a X-FI Xtreme music the other day, poped her in, and she sounded beautiful. That is until a couple days ago, when some songs I play having static sound (games run alot better now, because I was running a SB Li've! 24 BIt, it used alot of CPU). The main reason I love this card so much is because of the lightened load on my CPU, and because games sound so much better now. Problem is some of my music sounds like it has static fuzz in it, where other songs sound perfectly normal. Im wondering if it is my sound card, my speakers (I have TomMade 2. speakers, have had em for about 8 months, so they are getting old, cost me about 80 bucks Canadian when I got them) or the song file itself (because some songs sound normal, or perhaps the instruments are just so loud I cant hear the static). I dont know if it might be my speakers because they are old. And as for wonderng if its the sound file itself, the one song I hear it big time on is a quiet song at the start, but with some instrumental, and I hear static big time. Other songs are louder, and I dont know if i can hear the static or not. Coming from my SB LIve! 24 Bit, games sound better on my X-Fi, but I have to say that songs probably sound better on my SB Li've!. I didnt really notice alot of static on my old card, but maybe I just wasnt paying attention. Is there anyway I can be sure of what the problem is?
Another question but off topic, with my old card's software, I could change my output to 96 Hz. With the new software I can change digital output to 96, but Im not running digital speakers, I have analog (im guessing thats the SPDIF input settings under audio console) but if I go there, the SPDIF box is greyed out saying default. Perhaps the sound quality is lessened because the card thinks Im running digital?

96khz output is in thx console on the tab speaker selection and the heading "digital output sampling frequency" if you don't have then somethings gone wrong somewhere.
I can assure you though having 96 khz output will not make any difference to your sound its more likely that you have the other problem or static sound as you put it, that has not been fixed yet, this is what is likely to be degrading your sound not the digital output bit-rate. In fact in some cases setting it higher results in more static.
The static you get sounds like you have the the classic pops and crackles with the creative range of sound cards this has been going on for years, try reading the link I posted in my other post there are litterly thousands in the same boat as yourself.

  • Xtreme Music/ Vista/ Installed but no sou

Hi guys, Im having great trouble with my Xtreme Music card. I have downloaded the vista driver from the Soundblaster site. I made sure any other drivers were uninstalled and disabled the onboard sound. I am using a Creative Digital i/o adapter also. Everything seems to be installed correctly and even the small graphic equalizer next to the Digital i/o icon in Control Panel is showing a signal however there is NO SOUND. Im a bit baffled.
I have read through a great number of the posts here and found similar issues but no solution. Apologies if I am repeating an issue.

Don't know about your problem but i have a different one.
I installed the latest drivers from CL site and then today i was checking the Windows update site when there was a Creative XFi update available. So i got it and it just screwed all the sound up. Made my mic echo and allsorts.
Teach me for trusting MS to supply updates for something that as naff all to do with them realy. Should of know because the last time i did this for my Nvidia 8800 card it did the exact same thing by screwing everything up. Doh! lolMessage Edited by taylorig on 08-20-200706:20 PM

You have a SB0467 which is a Dell oem X-Fi card. I do not believe it's "origional" or retail. I got mine on ebay brand new for $45. I knew what I was buying (my system is a Dell). The clue to not being retail is that there usually is no retail box, manual, software, etc. I got the card only. So in a nutshell: no support

  • Xi Fi Xtreme Music - You've got to be kidding m

I had the beta version of VISTA with a soundblaster li've card in my PC, I bought the Xi-Fi Xtreme Music Card?last month?for one purpose and hoping it would work with the FULL VERSION OF?VISTA. To enhance the quality of recording my music. Now with?VISTA,? its all messed up, still the same problem with?the li've card that the VISTA beta gave me. The?driver you have to download on here is not complete, sound stutters.. Mp3's crackle.... I can't record my music properly now. I? had to reinstall my Windows XP MCE,?and in?limbo with a copy VISTA home that I can't use properly.
You've got to be kidding me that I just wasted my money on?a new sound card,?that is not even ready for VISTA when it was released within the past month!!.. Wasn't the company atleast given a HEADS UP, so you would be READY with your hardware for VISTA?..
I am very confused and a bit pissed at the moment, can someone PLEASE let me know what is going on. Or when this problem is going to be FIXED!!..

Have you read the stickies on Windows Vista compatibility? Final drivers for the X-fi will be out in a few weeks it looks like. Meanwhile, if you're doing any mission-critical activities on your computer, you don't have any business using Vista just yet. I mean, most companies won't even switch to Vista for a year or more. There are going to be all kinds of issues when a new OS is released. I wish people would understand that before wigging out in the forums. I'm using my X-fi fatality pro series in Vista Ultimate and yes I miss the console launcher, working ac3 passthrough through spdif, and all the other stuff. But maybe I'm lucky in that my digital out works and EAX seems to work fine in BF242.
The point is, I knew going into the upgrade that some things wouldn't work or work properly for a little while. So no, nobody is kidding you. Just stick with Win XP until official drivers are up for all your hardware. Vista isn't going anywhere so I suggest you relax.

  • Xtreme music headphones and speakers issue

I have a creative soundblaster xtreme music on my PC. I have a problem when I connect my 2.1 Logitech speakers it has to go through the headphones jack input. This is a hassle because if I want to change listening from headphones to speakers I have to unplug the headphone jack at the back of the desktop and then plug the 2.1 speakers jack. Is there a way of plugging both the speakers jack and the headphones jack on the soundcard inputs and then switch between headphone and speakers mode through the computer mouse on the monitor screen?

I did just as you suggested. There is no quality difference when listening to the headphones while the speakers plug is plugged to the splitter cable jack. But when I am listening to the speakers if I disconnect the headphones plug the sound from the speakers gets louder. I was advised that I can add a X-Fi I/O Dri've? to the extra DVD dri've space available on deskto
    ps.
This will add the extra jack input for headphones as well as add various other connectivity devices.
    Sound Blaster X-Fi I/O Dri've, I/O Console, and Digital I/O Module
    http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowA....aspx?sid=4796
But at the moment your solution does the job with my 2.1 speakers. I am not sure if it will work the same with a 5.1 speakers. If I use a 5.1 speakers the line out which will be split will be used for the headphones and the front left and right speakers (which is used for the 2.1 speakers system) while the line 2 out will be used for rear left and rear right speakers. The line 3 out will be used for front center and subwoofer. I don't know if I split line for headphones this won't affect the front left and right of the 5.1 speaker system or maybe I have to unplug the headphones plug to make the 5.1 speakers system work. In any event unplugging the headphones plug will increase the volume of the speakers or even increase the sound quality if a trained ear listens to the sound. My ears are not trained enough to notice any quality difference.

  • Xtreme Audio, Xtreme Music the sa

I've been looking at this site for a minute now and it seems like Xtreme Audio and Xtreme Music are the same. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I am wrong, does Xtreme Audio (the one that's on sale) come with the Audio Creation / Mixer Software?

It's OK for some recording, not the best option if its sole purpose is recording. XM, XG and XA only have one line-in that shares the jack with the digital out. If you already upgraded to Vista it's better to wait until the X-Fi WHQL drivers are released (ETA March 9th) to see how they fare. XM does work in Vista but the current beta drivers offer basic functionality (which is almost equal to XA's full functionality) and have some quirks.

  • Xtreme Music Quest

Is there an Adapter where I can use the Digital out / Mic at the same time via I/O Port?

You don't need to attach additional power to the Xtreme Music, only the X-Fi Elite Pro that's using external I/O bay like those need additional power connected to the soundcard. For Xtreme Music, PCI will provide the necessary power to the card.
