Xtrememusic: Digital out or Analog out, Advantages Disadvanta

I have a Xtrememusic card, that has a wonderful sound using the analog outputs to 3 Sonic Impact T-Am
ps.
Now, I'm curious about using the digital out to a Panasonic SA-XR55 digital amp/receiver. I know I would lose the CMSS, but the Panasonic can do it's own synthesis of surround. I'm interested in knowing from users about the pros and cons of using the digital out or analog outs. I know the quality of the Xtrememusic DACs are good, and I read that the Panasonic?has a excellent sound output as well. If I choose to use the digital out, I could just use?the motherboard onboard digital out, although only in DVD modes does it do a true bitperfect pass through. In stereo mode, it's still using some of Windows to mix the sound. I could also use the digital out of the card. Seems like a shame to bypass all of that nice analog the card is capable of?
Oh yeah, anyone know if a old Creative Li've 5. I/O panel will work with a Xtrememusic card??Thanks

wiersch,
I believe you might have Skype set to auto-configure your soundcard. Try this, open Skype and go to it's audio setting menu. Disable the option 'Let Skype adjust my sound device setting.'

  • Simultaenous digital out and analog in

Hi. I am running into an issue with the simultaneous AI (analog in) and DO (digital out) with Athena (www.diamondsystems.com) and LabVIEW (see the supplied files): The original program example supplied by somebody (the attached 060126 file) runs fine with these two simultaneous operations.
However, for my specific requirements, I would have to put a frame (flat sequence) around the DO part (the attached 060131 file), followed by another flat sequence frame that changes another DO state. The reason that I must do this is that I have 2 valves which change states as the AI operation continuous to run.
I have noticed though, once I put those flat sequence frames around it, the DO pauses and doesn't perform the operation until the AI loop is stopped. I have tried to create various local variables but the issue persists. Would there be a workaround for this? Thanks.

I have taken a look at your code. Based upon your description,
and the fact that I do not have the driver for your device, I am not exactly
sure where the program is pausing.  I can give you some suggestions to
resolve your problem.  When you use a flat sequence structure, every piece
of code in a frame has to finish execution before the next frame will start
execution.  If you have code in parallel (i.e. digital output and analog
input) in one frame and the same in a second frame the digital output and analog
output in the second frame will not start until all the code in the first frame
has finished execution.  In your case it you have a while loops for
digital input and output in the first frame.  When both of these loops
finish execution, you should see the second frame start shortly after.
From your description what I believe is happening is that the digital output in
the first frame is finishing and waiting for the analog input to finish.
After the analog input loop finishes the second frame can start.  If you
want the second frame's digital output to start before the loop finishes
execution you will need to take that code out of the frame.

  • Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out

Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out minijack on the new Mac Pro support 5.1?

Are you asking if it has that?
    http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/specs/
    says:
Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out minijack
    Which means it does.
On all but the earlier Mac Pro models, this has been standard since the iMac G5.
    Mac Pros earlier used SPDIF.
    These are now mini-Toslink.

  • How to send out two analog signals

    hi
I'm running Labview 10.0 with a PXI controller 8196 with with an M-series DAQ board 6289 which has 4 analog out ports. What I have done is create a statemachine which controls a multi LED board (57 LEDs arranged in 7 concentric circles, with a centre LED). The state machine moves between various states such as Fixation point on, Fixation point off, Target on, Target off. At the moment I have one Analog out port which outputs a voltage to tell me which state I am in, but I want to know how to configure a second port to say which LED I am turning on. I am controlling the LED with the digital out, and converting a binary to a digital code so I was just going to convert that digital code (by diving it by some factor) and write out that factor to a second port. I've read I can not confiure two Analog out ports on the same board, but instead I have to cluster the outputs together, I'm just not sure now to do that. I've attached my main vi as well as the two subvi's that the main vi calls. I've looked at some of the other threads and the suggestion was to close one port to open the other, that's just not possible in my case as I need to keep both channels open throughout the whole program as the analog out is constantly changing. I'm also recording from up to 25 analog channels at the same time.
    Thanks in advance
NB. I could only add two of the sub vi's that the main program calls, so the main vi will not work, so if need be I can post the other sub vi in an additional post.

    Hi
For one of the channels it is a stepping voltage which changes between +/- 5 volts depending of which state of the statemachine the program is in, so it is not just a constant voltage through out the whole task. On the second channel I want to out put a single voltage that would signify which LED is turning on, that would just be a constant voltage, but it would not be the same voltage on both channels. I'm just about to try something else and hopefully that will work.
    Thanks

    When

In the Help for that function:
The Load DAC VI is used to send a value directly to an unmapped DAC resource. DACs not mapped as servo axis outputs are available for general-purpose analog output applications.
Caution  You must not execute this VI on a DAC mapped to an axis. Doing so causes the DAC output to glitch momentarily before returning to axis control.
If you configured and mapped that axis for a servo, that may the issue. You may also want to add an error indicator to the vi to see if any errors are occuring.
A better solution may be to use one of the 32 available Digital I/O lines to turn on the SSR.

  • Need power amp for compactDAQ analog out

I am using the CompactDAQ in a controls application and need a recommendation for an amplifier that will enable me to provide power proportional to the Analog Out signal, which has voltage but no notable current.  I know the recommendation would be application dependent, but I am hoping for something rather generic for powering motors, heaters, pumps, etc.

You may also find it helpful to search the GlobalSpec in the Affiliated Product Advisor- it's just a good resource when looking for additional equipment to go with your NI hardware.  Happy shopping!

  • Is it ok to hook up two voltage analog outs in serial?

ok... I have a FieldPoint FP-210... basically an analog voltage out, 0-10V out, 200mA per channel (with added external power supply)... my question is... can I hook two channels in series?  Like the way I can put two AA batteries in series... and then double my voltage?  and then control my two seperate channels and the sum of the voltages would be would I subject my load to?
    thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No, you can't.  The channels all share the common side of their outputs.  If you tried to hook them in series, you would wind shorting out one output relative to ground.
The reason you can do it with batteries is that there voltages are floating.  There is no common reference between the negative terminals of the two batteries.

  • How can I generate tones with usb 6008 using analog out?... tia sal2

    Greetings All
I've been looking at the example Sim Phone.vi that comes with labview and would like to generate similar tones out of our usb 6008 device. I can get a very faint sound out of our usb 6008 using the example Gen Multi Volt Updates-SW Timed.vi Does anyone know the best way to alter Sim Phone.vi to have the sound come out of the Analog output of our usb 6008 device. ( I have a small speaker connected to the Analog out on our USB 6008)
PS: we are using labview 7.1
Does anyone know the Analog output frequency range of the usb-6008? Is this possible?
    TIA

    Gen Mult Volt Updates-SW Timed.vi ‏78 KB

    Hi sal2,
As stated earlier you could most certainly use the USB device to generate sound, but that would be at a max update rate of 150 Hz. While according to Nyquist theorem you could get frequency information for signals below 75 Hz, you may notice that the quality of the data in that spectrum to be very low due to having so few samples.
While technically possible to produce you really should look for a device with a faster Analog Output update rate. I would look for a device that supports Analog Output at least 10x the maximum frequency that you want the user to hear. Some great, yet lower cost products, would be the M-Series line of products. They would give you the performance that is really needed in the type of application that you are talking about.
If you still want to use the USB Device, then you would need to use code similar to that found in the example Gen Mult Volt Updates-SW Timed (Found here: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\daqmxbase\Dynamic\ao).
Best of luck getting your system together,

  • X-series analog out fifo preload

i am porting an m-series driver to x-series, and have a quick question about analog output.
i have found that I can preload the aout FIFO by writing sequential data to:
            device.AO.AO_FIFO_Data_Register.writeRegister(val);
however this is a 32-bit register, and through trial and error I have found that i have to write two values at a time:
        for(int i=0;i<preloadCount;i+=2)
            u32 val = buffer[i] & 0xffff;     // buffer has correctly scaled DAC values, as 32-bit ints
if (i<(preloadCount-1))           // in case preload count not divisible by 2
                val |= buffer[i+1]<<16;
            device.AO.AO_FIFO_Data_Register.writeRegister(val);
is there a way to write one 16-bit value at a time to the analog out fifo?
    thanks,

    Go to Solution.

additionally, is there a way to DMA 32-bit values to analog out, without them being interpreted as pairs of 16-bit values?
for analog input, both problems (writes to the fifo, and dma to the fifo) are solved by setting the fifo width:
    aiHelper.programFIFOWidth(nAI::kFourByteFifo, status)
but so far I have not found a similar mechanism for analog output.
national instruments guys, can you comment?

    Hi achyuth,
Thank you for posting on the National Instruments forum.
I am not sure what you are trying to do.  Are you trying to input and output at the
same time?  Are you just trying to
synchronize all of your inputs?  Do you
want them to run off the same clock?  If
you could, give me some more information so I can understand your problem

  • Trying to do a simple analog out in LabView8 imported form LV7

I have a PCI-6733 DAQ board and I can set it's analog outputs in
'Measurement and Aquisition' so I know the hardware is working
correctly.  I can also create a simple VI in labview 7 to set
those analog outputs.  However, I dont' see any of the same
components in my LV 8 installation.  I cannot figure out how to do
an analog output in version 8 and if I try to simply import my LV 7 vi
I get an error when it tries to load 'AO Update Channel.'
Specifically, it says, 'AO Update Channel is not a valid Labview file.'
ANy idea what is going wrong?

You may have 7.4.1 installed but if you installed LabVIEW 8 after you installed it, you probably don't have the VIs in the LabVIEW 8 folder. If you re-install 7.4.1, then you should be able to proceed.
To set an analog output to a fixed value, it's just a DAQmx Write (analog DBL 1Chan, 1Samp), with a DBL wired to the data input.
